The Redneck, the Cynic, the Nerd, and the Hopeless Romantic

((I'm not giving up on my other roleplay, but I had another idea an decided to see if maybe I was just aiming for the wrong idea.))

Setting The modern day world, Earth, for all intents and purposes the year 2008, certain large event based aspects have been changed.

Backstory The world is as it should be everything is going normal, except a sort of mundanity seems to be settling in, no breakthroughs in technology have been made recently, and the world itself seems to be decaying, molding in the sad mundane normalcy it had sunk into.

In fact that is the truth in a way, but it's not the planet falling apart on it's own, no people, dark people pressed into boredom have found a way, the only scientific breakthrough in years, one that is being used to do vile things. Men an women who without any other focus sundered reality in a way, breaking through and creating a link to other places, other possibilities, which spilled through into their bodies, and they were unable to defend against it, becoming new persona's with wicked powers. Not all of these beings are evil, but those that control their hosts openly have intentions that drastically change the human world. Scattered throughout the world these people do evil things, some small, some large, and some unnoticed, but they add up, and their purpose is to destroy one world to expand the other, some use their possessors, and some simply are controlling their hosts.

But the rift stayed open and the entities continued to enter others, people who seemed to have the temperament necessary to understand and to fight, they fight for all sides and each one has his own goals.

The three sides fight in single duals, and even sometimes even small skirmishes manifesting the powers of the otherworlders to increase their own skills, and to gain new powers. Each time a fighter kills or stuns another they gain the ability to manifest a small margin more of the entity who they are manifesting.

They gain incredible power, but the world as we know it is almost certainly going to end. The question is which way will it go, will the inhabitants of Earth be destroyed, or will those of the other realm lose their existence, or will the worlds merge, a permanent pathway open between the worlds, and possibly even a lasting friendship, but certainly a new world.

The Power Types
Breakers: Those humans who have destroyed the minds of their possessors and controlled them. They always fight for either a merging of the worlds or the destruction of the other world.

Possessors: Those other realm beings who have broken their human counterparts and fight to either destroy the human world, or to merge both worlds.

Wielders: These are the rarest those who have joined side by side with their other entities, two minds inhabiting one body, who fight together. They always fight for the unification of both worlds.

RULES
All Dragon Cave Rules Apply
Standard Rules Apply

Roleplaying Sample This is just so I can see if you can handle the quality I hope to upkeep in a role play. A good idea for the theme of the sample is the discovery of the extra entity, or of the powers afforded by it.

Characters

Player name : Silvermourn

Character Name : Thane Telerot

Age: 22

Gender: Male

Appearance: He stands at a little under 6 ft. tall and is not the fittest person in the world, but tougher than your average person from years spent working in hard conditions. He dresses in boot cut jeans that lead down to a pair of heavy western style boots each one slightly different than the other. He wears a lightweight shirt with a leather jacket over it at all times. He keeps his red hair cropped short and at times wears a dew rag over it. He wears a heavy knife at his waist and spends most of his time looking in serious disrepair, but he always steps with a sort of youthful joviality.

Personality: A little redneck and a little bit nerdy, he tends to be extensively overboard on most things, and he believes in the shift away from mundanity but he fears for his family, his friends, and his planet, but the merge of planets is a fond dream for him, because he wants deeply to meet Lelerean, the other worlder he manifests.

Side: Mergin, he believes in the existence of both worlds

Power Form: Wielder

Otherworlder Type: Master Fey (I'm not sure what's up with me, I'm just on a fey kick)

Powers Afforded by manifestation: A weak magical strike ability and small magical "tricks", plus an addition to his strength.

Short History He grew up in the south, and he worked hard for a long time, using his intelligence to advance him through the years, until he had emassed enough money to travel for a while, moving through the country on his motorcycle, and earning what he could as he went, it was in these travels that the entity entered his mind, and that he began to sense the others, learning that he could duel them to gain power. He has had his powers for less than a week at this time.

Player name : the dragon whisperer[/b]

Character Name : Alacrity Bane

Age: 33

Gender: Female

Appearance: Alacrity stands tall for a woman at 5'9", her hair is pure silvery white, Her skin is albino white, her wide set eyes a vivid blue She keeps her slightly pointy ears hidden beneath her hair. (Her hair skin and ears changed from the affinity with the otherworld char.) She prefers loose flowing blue pants that would look almost like a dress if she didn't keep them shoved into her blue suede boots. Her blouse is peasant style, white with blue embroidery around it's scooped neck.

Personality: Judicious, patient, perseverant, serious during work, jovial when at play

Side: Merging of the Worlds

Power Form: Wielder

Otherworlder Type: Ice Elf

Powers Afforded by manifestation: An affinity for the cold, small tricks like freezing ice cubes with her hands.

Short History: Alacrity was born and raised in Northern California. When she turned 18 she began her job as a ski instructor for the handicapped in the winter months and a part time ranger for the conservation corps the rest of the year. Most of that time was spent alone backpacking through the Marble Refuge Forest making repairs to the trails and checking for up to date fishing licences. She met and fell in love with a young man at the ski school, but that relationship failed when the entity found her. Her world turned upside down when she realised just how big the universe was and how desperately she was needed to fight what was coming. That was six months ago.

Player name: Katarri

Character Name: Shal Devlin

Age: 28

Gender: Male

Appearance: Shal stands at five feet six inches, and what he thinks is a little on the short side. His hair is a silvery grey that's cut to be longer on the right side, covering his blind green eye. His other eye is a dull ruby red. Shal's skin is on the pale side and his lips are painted a metallic silver. His favorite outfit consists of a blue tee with a white vest accompanied by black jeans and black leather boots.

Personality: Shal can be calm and cool most of the time. He loves messing with peoples' minds, and would be considered legally insane. When angered, he becomes deathly serious and will go through anything in order to make things 'right' for himself again.

Side: Doesn't really matter to him, though he leans very very slightly towards the destruction of the Other World.

Power Form: Breaker

Otherworlder Type: Cama fox

Powers Afforded by manifestation: The ability to create a spark, and control the flame created. The flame can get as big as a softball, and anything larger will quickly drain him of energy. Also, the removal nitrogen from any space smaller than five cubic inches.

Short History: Shal Devlin was born and raised in Sebes, Transylvania (Romania). He lived with his mother, Ann Devlin, and was younger than his two sisters, Traci and Krystal Devlin. Shal was only thirteen when his mother was the victim of an armed robbery at the store. From then on, his older sisters looked after him, and the three moved to Covasna shortly after Shal turned eighteen. At the age of twenty, both Traci and Krystal left home to travel the world, leaving Shal behind on his own. Only four years later did Shal finally lose his mind. Nobody is sure what caused him to break, but it is speculated that it was because he finally got 'bored'...

Roleplaying Sample: Shal sat against the dirty brick wall, rather tired after another day of travel-by-foot. Really, if he didn't make any money soon, he'd never make it out of Romania. Alive, that was...

Long fingers deftly fumbled with a discarded lighter, the flame growing smaller and smaller each time it was lit. Dull red eyes stared blankly at the piece of trash, and Shal swore loudly when his stomach gave a loud grumble. He was ready to toss the lighter across the street after one last flick. The fire lit, dancing against the warming metal, and then it grew. The man gave a startled yelp and dropped the lighter when the flame began to slowly move towards his hand.

The object clunked to the ground, yet the flame stayed ablaze. From the flames emerged a small figure, no bigger than a raccoon. Its body was on fire...no, it's body was the fire. The fox stared at Shal a long moment with its dark blue eyes, inspecting him closely.

Shal felt his body warming quickly. It was a soothing feeling, one full of power he'd never felt before. A grin broke out across the man's face, silvery lips glinting in the red light the little fox gave off. And it wasn't a surprised grin, nor was it a happy one. The look on Shal's face was one of manic glee, single red eye focusing on the now hissing fox. A hand shot out, grasping the entity's skull right between its small ears.

Bringing the struggling thing closer to his face, the grinning man stared right into the creature's eyes. It looked startled for a moment, before the smell of sulfur drifted through the air and the fox dissipated. Shal stood up to stretch, bending to pick up the charred lighter he'd almost forgotten. With a chuckle and a toothy grin, he headed off down the Transylvanian streets once again. Now, where's the best place for one to find airplane tickets, hm?

The fevered pitch of the last battle was still coursing through Alacrity. Her skin burned with the cold that was emanating from her. Though she tried to restrain it, when her senses picked up the new breaker ahead, she began to keen. A shrill guttural note that reflected her desire to engage the enemy. Her eyes were ablaze with desire for more killing. Wild and unfettered, she let her emotions loose. "Thane, Stop. I think we can take this one before the others show up. Don't hit it with the car." Her hand was at the door handle, ready to throw it open and jump out.

Slamming on the breaks Thane didn't even stop to think beyond the obvious strategy. They needed to stick to it this time, they couldn't go running around like lunatics. As the car spun to a stop at the side of the road he leaped from the vehicle drawing his kukri from it's sheathe at the small of his back at the same time. As far as he could tell there was only one, yet another powerful breaker or possessor heading this way. The fight seemed to have attracted a lot of attention and many of those who had come to see the action were already regretting it.

Sliding up beside Alacrity he flipped the knife over his hand once and smiled at her. "How about we stick to some kind of plan this time. I say we sneak up on the bastard as best we can and hit it from range. Spread out around it and melee him between the two of us. It should keep it on it's toes long enough for one of us to debilitate it."

Alacrity nodded assent. "I think it's coming up the alley. You wait here. I'm going to run around the block and come up behind him. As soon as he gets close to you, I can force him out into the open." She checked her senses again, just to make certain there were no others in the vicinity. Satisfied, she took off at a lope. In less than a minute she was behind the possessor. Her palms were itching to shoot shards at him but she wanted to wait till he was closer to Thane.

Her rapid breath frosted against the air, as she waited. He didn't seem to sense her at all, and kept heading to the alley entrance. She yelled out, "Now Thane," and ran up behind the beast shooting shards into its spine.

The creature was a quick one whatever it was, incredibly quick actually and it spun from the spines with dancing moves that seemed to evade the dangerous spines with only a breadth of air between them.
Thane quickly reacted hurling a sudden barrage of whistling javelins, each one a glowing vibrant color of magic that struck the ground where the creature had once been with powerful explosions.
The possessor for that was what the creature was leaped nearly into Alacrity's arms in evasion spinning nimbly out of her leap back towards Thane.

Then something stunning happened something Thane had expected to be possible the creature spoke aloud. Not to him but to Sirl, to the being which inhabited his head.
"Hello Sirl, I hadn't expected you on this pitiful little planet, you usually like to stick to your own. How long did it take you to snap the little bastards mind you inhabiting in half?
Don't look so surprised no one throws Eldritch around like a Lord, even a exiled Lord such as yourself is more powerful then many of my kind. I wouldn't count yourself so lucky with me, you haven't had enough time to gather your power here. I may even have the upper hand."

This possessor Thane suddenly realized may very well be a woman her features were so strange that he couldn't tell. Her skin was in it's entirety a soft red color, and light swirls of gold made their path across it. Her hair stuck up in a spinning mass of curls and spikes, her ears held a covering of soft fur and a long tail extended from her posterior, it's end curled around the handle of long sword she had acquired at some point.
Her features were decidedly childlike and even her dark red nearly black eyes seemed innocent in their appraising glare.
One of her hands held a slim dagger and the other a long whip studded with thorns, the whip itself seemed to grow from her hand.

In Thanes head the scream nearly dropped him to his knees anger filled with a passionate pain that left him feeling suddenly weak. I cannot fight this battle Thane, you must go on without my advice. Old companions and old enemies die harder than you would believe, I would fail should it come to that killing blow.
Despite Thane's quickly asked and as quickly ignored questions the voice faded from his head. The entity moved to a corner of his mind all his own, and while the power remained the casual skill no longer aided his movement. Only his own hard earned skill remained and his distraction left him inactive.

Alacrity was stunned when the possessor spoke to Sirl. Thane's reaction seemed odd as if he were in agony. His next few movements were not at all with his normal grace. Something must be wrong with Sirl. She was determined now to stay behind the creature; their only chance at beating it was catching it off guard. Her first order of business was getting rid of that whip. She didn't want to throw her liquid nitrogen, on the off chance of hitting Thane. While the possessor's attention was locked on Thane and Sirl, Alacrity leaped forward grabbing for the whip. Her hands full of freezing liquid as the whip slipped through her fingers, but she let go as soon as the thorns began cutting into her flesh. Hopefully the freezing was enough to shatter the whip.

Her icy blue skin glowed around her shredded flesh and began to heal almost instantly. Alacrity darted back behind the female, shooting shards as she ran. She did her best to draw attention away from Thane long enough for him to make a move. They needed to wear her down.

Unused to the lack of pure grace flowing through his body Thane stumbled momentarily. He regained his composure quickly. Enough that he could draw and hurl a lance of magic towards the distracted creature. A cry escaped unbidden from his lips as the creature simply flowed around the weapon. Moving with unimaginable grace and speed to evade the weapon. Alacrity was in danger from his attacks this way, he would have to be extremely careful.

Moving in closer as quickly as he could he drew a Revoke tight into his fist. Holding the kukri loosely in his other hand he moved in close. Readying himself for an all out strike. If he could move quick enough he could attempt to smash her out of her grace with a revoke. Then he and Alacrity together could kill her.

Beautiful grace abounded as she flowed away from attacks. The woman was an amazing example of dexterity and skill. She seemed to flow from movement to movement, the mind she had destroyed nearly overcome by the magic flowing through the body. She was powerful, much more powerful than either Thane or Alacrity, and Sirl had abandoned him.

The woman began to speak in between movements, spinning her thorn whip at Alacrity. Speaking to Thane, or more precisely Sirl without even looking at them.
"My my, you aren't working with that bastard human are you Sirl? I can't believe you didn't just crush his feeble mind and take control of the body. Slaughtering these humans who think to use our powers could lead to our infinite power. We could become Gods!"

That was all Thane wanted to hear, he leaped from his position to assault the woman. Her bound was impressive, albeit an easy prediction. His Revoke had perfect aim, rippling through the air. He had no doubts that it would strike, and he was already setting himself up to fall upon her stunned body knife at the ready.
As the powerful blast moved, she simply flowed out of it's path, whip arcing around her body to catch him across the face. Thrown suddenly to the ground by the attack Thane felt blood trickle down his face. It was numb from the sudden pain, not deep but put such a head wound would bleed profusely.

Her moves were fluid, but Alacrity was completely submissive to El's lead. Thane lay there stunned, and Alacrity drew the creatures attention away. She flowed around the whip like action, studying her behavior. Alacrity stepped in close enough for her to strike, then danced out of her reach. It was monotonous, but the woman was predictable. Alacrity timed her next response. She made as if to dart away again, but instead she lunged forward grabbing hold of the thorny whip. The chilling liquid nitrogen flowed from her hands, running up the whip. Then she lunged away, leaving the whip to crackle in pieces to the ground.

Keeping herself between the adversary and Thane, she taunted the beast. "You aren't as good as you think. The human you inhabit is weak. You can't even stand a little cold. Why not come closer, and I'll show you what real cold is all about."
With that, she ran headlong into the woman, with liquid seeping from both her hands.

The woman immediately leaped into a forward flip. Perfectly seeming to float only inches above Alacrity's head. A simple charge would never be enough to catch one with her speed and perception. Somewhere in her leap, knives had leaped into her hands. Small and sharp she immediately attempted to use them on Alacrity as she flew. Her hands moved with deft precision, she was a deadly opponent. However she was not perfect, she was predictable and her only asset was her speed. She had very little in the way of her true powers unlocked, and she was not strong.

As she raced forward, The beast began a mighty lunge over Alacrity. She couldn't have planned it better. Her back arched as she stopped her forward momentum. With El in charge of her reflexes her arms flew up at the same instant the beast was above her. While she was able to spray the possessors torso with the liquid nitrogen, she was not fast enough to evade the knives thrust at her. The first grazed off her left arm but the second pierced her shoulder. She cried out with the pain as it stuck the bones. Reaching with her right hand to yank out the offending thing, she tossed it aside. The wound sealed over with an icy hiss, but the pain had not abated. The light shimmered off her slick blue skin, as she spun around to watch her opponent. This kill was going to be well worth whatever pain came to her. Was Thane going to be able to help? She screeched her icy call, in an attempt to rouse him, and crouched waiting for her next move.
