Some thoughts; it's time to rebuilt our house

I observed that currently, Mind'sGate is going through a massive slump. Members are dropping off the site like dead flies and if I'm not mistaken, barely more than ten members (including staff) are actively keeping the site from becoming a 'ghost website'.

There is a saying, "A sturdy house needs strong pillars. Similarly, a sturdy community needs strong people to act as pillars of the community." Where are the pillars of our online community? We need people; people who are dedicated, people who have the strength, the charisma, the creativity, the inspiration to act as a pillar for the sake of preventing everything from crashing around us. I propose this because I lack such values, I am fickle at best, and barely able to maintain my presence here. I suggest that someone worthy be selected for this role, so that we may herald to his/her strength and once again move towards the Golden Times.

There is also another saying, "A house, no matter how many planks are added to the outside, will crash and fall if the inside is naught but rotten wood." There are too many inactive members, who having signed up, failed to show up to contribute. These are the termites which have been feeding at the core of our community and should be dealt with immediately. It is understandable if our members occasionally run into some difficulty in life and real life being the priority, they should be excused to focus on it. However, there are quite a few who almost never show up, and have never contributed anything to this site. Though it will seem ruthlessly cruel, purging these redundant members will relieve a great burden off the weakening shoulders of this site.

Lastly, seeing as how few members are truly active, actions must be taken to introduce new, dedicated, worthy members into this site to save it from oblivion. I'm not suggesting a sudden landslide of crummy newbies, but a gradual but much needed trickle to fill the empty places. Once the desired number of members is achieved, then we can hold off on membership invitations, hence keeping the numbers at a manageable level. Needless to say, if these new members fail to regularly contribute to the site, they will be first given a fair chance by explaining themselves. If they lack a valid reason, their membership will be revoked and members should be invited to take their place. This way, Mind'sGate can thrive again.

((If any of the above seem to be condemning, I sincerely apologize for my ignorance. Actually, seeings as how I am not contributing much to the site either, I shouldn't really speak badly about others. Nevertheless, I am thinking in the best interests of this site and have no ill will towards anyone whatsoever. Should I have broken any rules or offended anyone, please feel free to punish me. Thank you. ))

If I may, I'd like to suggest a few individuals whom I think are are worthy to hold responsibility as the pillars of our online community:
(in random arrangement, with no order whatsoever)
1. Merc
2. Dark Jack
3. Dusk Raven
4. Alf
5. Shien
6. Rina
7. Kja

((I vote for these few individuals not only due to their prowess in the arts of roleplay, but also based on how often they are able to get online. I'd like to add Attila, Seiss, Niko, just to name a few, but unfortunately despite their great roleplaying skills, they have problems with their internet, issues that needed to be settled in real life, etc. Hence, I cannot vote for them. Should anyone feel that I've slighted them, I once again, beg for forgiveness, as I can only be online at that many hours and these are the people that I've noticed constantly online. Should anyone beg to differ with my choice, kind post your reply with your reasons, and I shall edit subsequently. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. ))

I know for certain that the site is going through a massive phase of becoming inactive again. I know RL can be a pain and cause something like this to happen, but now it is at a critical stage where, as you have said it, there is a dozen members who are active at most. I think that now is the time for us to liven the place up again, with me thinking that there are a few RPs that are active to stop it from slumping even further (which had prompt me to create Aura of Time).

For your pillar idea, Prince, it doesn't seem to be a bad idea. However, there are certain things that will cause a massive problem in the future. One of the apparent things that comes to mind is this: What would happen if one or more of those chosen to be the pillars of the site leave? It would certainly cause a problem with the moral of those that are on the site already and those that have joined. Another problem I can see is that this role would put pressure on the chosen, seeing as it is a pretty big responsibility. I dunno what the others will think, but I thought I would throw in my opinions.

As for your other ideas that you have suggested, this is something that I think is a good idea. I think that most of the people that join the forum would check to see if anyone is active on the site. If they see that it is dying away, it would force them to go inactive themselves. Not only would this help with making people want to join, but it would lose the dead weight that the forum has at the moment.

I think that cutting away the dead weight might possibly be a good idea, but it could also discourage people from coming back to us in the future. As for the pillars idea, well I personally don't like it much. I don't think that selecting people and parading them about is a good idea in general, and I don't actually know that it would work.

I don't like the idea either, but some people have been absent since last year and have yet to come back on since posting their introduction posts. I can vouch for Mike to be kicked out. He's too busy with his real life to come back again. But in all fairness, emails should be sent to inquire them if they should want to retain their membership or quit. Carrying extra luggage around is a burden, like it or not.

E-mails have been sent out, the problem is that a large number of people sent back claiming that they would eventually come back to the site, very few of whom actually did come back.

The thing I agree with most on here is that we need to expand. We need to appeal to more people, clearly, though we also need to keep people who are already here. I know you people are pretty much dead set against advertising, but I think that in a situation such as this, with the proper wording, it might be a good idea. Of course, that would mean removing the lockdown that the forum's been under ever since our little 'disaster'. Honestly, about the lockdown, I think you people made a bomb out of a burrito. Something stank, and you threw it out. In my mind, that's no reason to go locking all the doors and burying the key. And if I were a new person invited to come here, a lockdown wouldn't exactly be what I'd want greeting me.

Whatever. I may be biased, but do think we could use fresh air and new blood.

(now that I've exhausted just about every cliche ever written, I'll shut up :))

EDIT: Prince, your Mouth of Sauron, charming as he is, is stretching the page.

It seemed like a good idea at the time...
How are we to live in the present, look to the future and remember the past?

There's a reason for this madness. I fell off the Train of Thought.

I can't find any relation in the statements above. If you can, please tell me, so I can get rid of it.
