"Shut up before I shoot you," she growled none too pleasantly, her wine-colored eyes never leaving the hallway in front of them. This really wasn't time for banter. She was doing her best to keep the death threats to a minimum, but if he couldn't keep the smartass comments to himself, they wouldn't be "just threats" for much longer. Of course, making up an excuse for the casualty would be a pain in the ass, but she'd deal with that problem when it came around. For now, she was just trying to keep her sanity intact.

The sound of a trigger being pulled came from behind her, and Lorelei's first instinct was to fire blindly back. She'd already aimed her weapon only to realize that the attack was not meant for her, but the approaching guard in front of them. He slumped over; clearly not dead, but not altogether very awake either. Poison?

No, she confirmed, shooting the fallen figure a quick glance as she passed. He was already out cold with a pair of headphones still inserted into his ears. The bullet had simply grazed his shoulder, but whatever it had been made of, it was strong enough to take out a healthy male upon contact. Even fast-acting poison didn't have that kind of reaction time...

Forget the guessing games; you can ask him yourself once you get this whole thing over with, the practical side of her snapped. Lorelei complied willingly, focusing instead on making it up the staircase without making too much of a ruckus. The melting snow on her boots weren’t helping any, but that earlier announcement must have been more effective than she thought, given that they encountered no obstructions on the way up to the second floor. Only one more staircase left; too bad it was on the other side of the building.

"You hear that right?"

Lorelei skidded impatiently to a halt. "What?" She frowned, trying to pick up any unusual sounds in the surrounding area. There was nothing, except for a high-pitched whirring sound. It was the kind that occurred when gears first started up and gained speed to start some sort of task, like raising or lowering shooting machinery. She knew the sound quite well; it mirrored the ones back at headquarters' training compound almost perfectly.

Wait.

Cursing her slow reaction, she took several forceful steps back into the stairwell. Her back collided against Jin's body somewhere along the way, but that only made the blonde push harder until they were safely out of the halls. And not a moment too soon, as the telltale bang of metal embedding itself into the wall reverberated through the empty space outside.

"Shut up before I shoot you," she growled none too pleasantly, her wine-colored eyes never leaving the hallway in front of them.

"Yes, Princess," Jin said, in a way one would to one of that of royalty.

---

Lorelei skidded impatiently to a halt. "What?" She frowned, trying to pick up any unusual sounds in the surrounding area.

He didn't need to answer as he noticed she heard the sound. He didn't need to say anything more as the realization clicked itself into place. And before he could comment on her cursing, he was hit by her back to force him to go even further into the stairwell. Pushing her down, the guns shots aimed towards where they were moments ago reverberated throughout the stairwell, the metal casings dropping to the floor with a ringing clang as well as the broken pieces of metal that came from the remains of the a door that had been at the stairwell. When the shooting stopped, he picked his head up and looked over, using his hands to dust off the dust that collected from the gunshots.

"What the hell are we going to do now?" he muttered, glaring at the hall although he knew it wasn't going to do anything. For now, they were being delayed precious time to get the information. Apparently, this entire floor must be packed with all kinds of traps... so how on earth were they going to get passed them all?

He walked over to the door way, but not stepping out, sighing with relief when the familiar whirring sound wasn't heard. He glanced at the tiles on the floor and noticed that some of them were raised while some were not. Taking off his vest, he took out the assortment of weapons he had placed inside it. Knowing he was going to regret this later, he placed the weapons into his jeans and the pockets of his jeans. The thermal shirt showed the well-toned muscles on his body as he moved to pick up the vest. The vest was a winter one, so it would weigh probably a pound or so.

Then he tossed it out, hearing nothing until the vest hit the floor and upon contact, the whirring started up again and shot at the vest, completely destroying it to the point it was beyond recognition. He had only taken a moment to grab Lorelei hard enough so she would be forced to move aside, but not hard enough that it would hurt her, and from harm as pieces of metal flew through the air and into the stairwell as he used his free arm to cover his face. He released her as he stood up and noticed a pattern in the tiles.

"The white tiles are the ones that aren't weight pressurized," he explained, noticing that the vest... or the remains of it, had been completely obliterated on the green and blue tiles. "So... we'll have to stand on the white tiles the entire time..." He sighed, knowing full well that this was only one trap out of what could be dozens. And to prove his theory so that she didn't doubt him, he jumped out and stepped on the white tile and nothing happened. Then he proceeded down the hall, oddly agile for one his size.

Then they came across the portion of the hall where it was all white so he stepped off from balancing and stopped moving forward. There was no whirring sounds but something was really odd about this portion of the hallway. The floors weren't weight pressured yet he felt that something was off.

He looked up and along the sides of the walls and there, he saw a sliver of what appears to be a laser. "... This entire portion of the hall is tricked out with lasers." Too bad he didn't carry those goggles with him today that allowed him to navigate through this.

Staring down at the bullets that riddled the tiles and walls around them, it was hard not to imagine a scene where they hadn't gotten off quite so easily. Lorelei grimaced as she stood, wiping off large dust clods from her clothes. For a place that boasted such heavy security, they were surprisingly negligent when it came to simple tasks such as cleaning.

"What the hell are we going to do now?"

In any other situation, she would have retorted, but this hardly seemed like the appropriate time. Surely there was a way out--the guards had to navigate this mess on a daily basis, and if those people could do it without being shot full of holes, so could they. The most likely means of activating the traps would be by either touch or movement, but that didn't rule out the possibility of face recognition either...

It seemed that her partner has something in mind though, so Lorelei monitored his actions briefly out of the corner of her eye for a while before returning her attention back to the numerous machines that dotted the ceiling. Shooting out each and every gun was an option, but they didn't have the luxury of time to be spent on such a task. Her vision caught a blur of black fly past, one that she identified as Jin's vest as it hit the ground. She whirled around to demand an explanation only to find herself being pushed from the doorway as an onslaught of bullets came raining down upon the vest. A muffled protest escaped her lips even as she instinctively hurried to hide her face from the shower of rubble that flew towards them. She did not appreciate being pushed around like a sack of potatoes, whether or not the end result was to her benefit. She wormed out of his grasp as the sounds began to die down, her mind only half-registering her partner's discovery before he all but jumped out into the open. She almost expected another hail of bullets to rain down, but surprisingly, there was not a sound to be heard.

...Well.

"How surprisingly primitive," she observed, skipping easily from one blank tile to another. Lorelei had prepared herself for what she had been told was "state-of-the-art security measures," but this could be easily compared to the kind of protection found in some low-rate museum. It was laughable to think about, but she wouldn't open her mouth just yet. She had caught a glimpse of the second floor from the cameras moments before Jin had set about disconnecting them, and even then, the total guards numbered about maybe five, six at the most. Granted, there wasn't anything of interest here to the Organization, but the blonde doubted that the security here had been set up with that in mind. If nothing, it probably meant that they were so completely confident in their defenses that guards were hardly to be considered a necessity.

“That shouldn't be a problem,” she responded, pulling out what looked like a small perfume bottle from her back pocket. The liquid sloshing around inside, however, was an opaque shade of white and, when sprayed into the air in front of them, smelled more like rancid milk than the citrus scent that the label had pronounced it to be. Lorelei grimaced and masked her face once the smell began wafting towards them, but nonetheless kept spraying it until the particles of liquid had settled themselves in the air and created a fog-like mist in front of them. The red laser beams were easily more visible to the naked eye once the small droplets enhanced their natural color, leaving them a clear path to take for the several moments it took until the spray settled. Lorelei pocketed the bottle and motioned for Jin to follow before the air cleared up.

“And cover your nose. This stuff was made for knocking people out, not detecting laser beams.”

Jin only shrugged at her comment about the "primitive" security measures. He didn't care as long as he was going to get out alive and for all that else matters, as long as he lives, he doesn't care what kind or the level of the security is. A mission is a mission for him and all else didn't really matter.

When they came to the laser field, he looked over to Lorelei as she spoke up.

“That shouldn't be a problem,” she responded, pulling out what looked like a small perfume bottle from her back pocket.

Ironic that she would be carrying a perfume bottle, but then again, those from the organization must be not be judged as someone stupid, he thought as he watched her spray it. The first thing he noticed was the smell, immediately. Instantly, he pulled up his sleeve to cover his nose. Boy, did that stuff smell bad and he could tell that this wasn't just the ordinary stuff that you would find in a store.

“And cover your nose. This stuff was made for knocking people out, not detecting laser beams.”

He didn't reply as he made his way through the lasers until they were on the other side. The smell clung to him slightly as the lasers once again became the "invisible" lasers that it was originally. Sighing as he made his way to the next possible trap, he wondered mildly what was in store for them around the next corner. Slow progress but at least they were getting somewhere. He stopped moving when he found himself staring at the next set of traps. When he spoke, it sounded emotionless and slightly annoyed.

"Now what?"

[ ...D'oh, it's about time I got back to this. x__X ]

There honestly should have been a limit to how many traps one could set per floor. An encounter with three seperate traps in what was probably no more that fifty yards was really pushing the limit...and her patience.

"Maybe we clap our hands and pray that the tooth fairy comes to save us?" she suggested dryly with all of her characteristic grumpiness and lackluster wit. Her wine-colored glare was directed at what looked like an archaic security measure at best; spiked clubs suspended to the air by simple ropes and held back against the walls, ready to come crashing down into the skull of some unfortunate fool once they made a move and triggered the trap.

Somewhere in the back of her mind, she wondered how willing her partner might be to sacrifice himself for the sake of being a test subject. Not very, the blonde would imagine, much as she wished otherwise. There didn't seem to be any safe way to make it through this part of the hallway though. Perhaps the search for an alternate pathway was in order.

...Screw that. They didn't have the luxury of time here.

An exasperated growl escaped her lips as she aimed her frustration at the wall with a swift, poorly-executed and far too forceful kick. The front of her steel-reinforced boots collided heavily against the painted sheetrock, resulting in a hollow thumping sound as the wall gave away to reveal what looked like a thin, unguarded passage behind the unsturdy material that otherwise kept it out of sight. It extended in both directions, hinting that the two of them had probably missed the hidden entrance earlier in their haste to keep themselves from been ridden full of bullet holes.

Lorelei stared. "Well. I guess that explains a lot," she commented, poking her head in haphazardly to take a peek at the unlit path. From the looks of it, the thing probably travelled all the way to the other end of the floor.

Just what they needed.

"Maybe we clap our hands and pray that the tooth fairy comes to save us?" she suggested dryly with all of her characteristic grumpiness and lackluster wit.

"Awesome, but the tooth fairy doesn't help us in this kind of thing," Jin said with a smirk. He knew that the tooth fairy only dealt with teeth, so to speak. The mention of tooth fairy made him want to say something that a smart ass would say but decided not to... more or less.

As much as he disliked the female's deposition, he only shrugged and eyed the contraption of a trap in front of them. For a moment, he wondered if there was another way around it. He turned his gaze to the female as she seemed to clumsily kick the wall and much to his surprise, the wall gave way to reveal what appeared to be passage-way.

Brilliant.

Why didn't they try that before? However, before he could speak up, he realized that the entrance was also probably by the area they had entered but were to busy to notice as they avoided the bullets and Lorelei had spoke up.

"Well. I guess that explains a lot," she commented, poking her head in haphazardly to take a peek at the unlit path.

Resisting the urge to make a retort of some sort, he peeked in as well then pulled his head back out. "Ladies first?" he said with another smirk as gestured to the passage-way. It led all the way to the end of the floor where it led up to the the next floor, where the main files are located. "'Time is money' as many people would say," he muttered as he followed her through the passage-way as they ran down.

They had finally reached the end of the hall, and thank the gods, there was no traps there and they then ascended the stairs to the next floor. Luckily, the guards were still distracted and they entered a room with many kinds of computers and papers that lay askew. Jin went to the far end of the room where it seems to be located as the "head" desk as the desk was as if it was by itself.

He slid into the seat and took out a USB drive and plugged it in. Quickly, his fingers flew over the keyboard and looked for any files that may be of use to them and their Organization. Quickly acquiring them, he took out the USB drive and then began to raid their file cabinets. His gloved hands quick and swift, he pulled out ones that he thought seemed important, only to discover that some of them were not what they were looking for. He slammed his fist against one of the metal cabinets when he had gone through his fifth cabinet when he glanced at his watch...

Five more minutes...

“Thank you Captain Obvious,” the blonde deadpanned, dropping all false pretenses as she stepped cautiously into the darkened passageway. For the rest of their brief trip, however, she remained silent. No need to jeopardize the mission over a few snarky comments. Those could be dealt with at another time, when they knew for sure that they wouldn’t be gunned down by armed guards. Although she was honestly hoping there wouldn’t be “another time.” One mission with this man was already more than enough to start scratching at the boundaries of her already limited patience.

As they neared the research room, Lorelei busied herself with pulling on a pair of clean latex gloves. Not entirely a necessity by any means, especially since she had every intention of setting fire to the room once they finished with their little raid, but it couldn’t hurt to be careful. They entered the room silently, and the blonde immediately began rifting through the multitude of papers scattered on the tables. Only several of them seemed to be of any importance, but she didn’t doubt that it wasn’t material they could simply find by accessing the main computers. And not to mention, there could be backups stored on independent servers that they weren’t aware of. She grabbed one of the more important-looking folders anyway before heading over to the main computer that Jin seemed to be busying himself with. A quick glance at the clock hanging on the wall indicated that they couldn’t have more than four minutes left to spare at the most, and that was including the amount of time they would need to leave the building.

Pulling out a USB flash drive of her own, she moved to insert it into the main computer once the male moved away to start the more mundane task of looking through all the papers. A window of her USB files popped up, and she moved the mouse to hover over the one named W_12-09.EXE. Several clicks later, and the programmed worm began to work its magic, jumping from folder to folder and corrupting every file in its wake. It wouldn’t be long now until the program made its way to all the other connected servers. A satisfied smile crossed her lips as she tugged the USB away. Quick, efficient, and best of all, near impossible to find. Nobody would even realize it existed until all their data was beyond salvation. She supposed she would have to thank the technology department for that one later.

Two minutes left.

BAM. ”Both of you, freeze!” Or maybe not, after all. Lorelei complied with the order at once, and hoping that her partner was smart enough to do the same, moving only to glance over and analyze the guard. He seemed like a competent enough man, making sure to keep both intruders in sight and Jin, whom he probably deemed as the more dangerous of the two, at gunpoint. Her impression of him was further solidified as he reached one hand for the emergency alarm; he knew he couldn’t deal with the both of them alone. Good choice…for us. As his gaze shifted ever so briefly towards the alarm, Lorelei immediately grabbed a coffee-stained mug from the computer table and hurled it towards his head as a distraction. She was too far away to take him on without risking being shot back at, but her partner, on the other hand, was close enough to reach the guard with a few steps.

She could only hope he got the hint as the mug crashed against the man’s shoulder, just as he had pulled the alarm. He cursed, shooting blindly once, twice in her direction in self defense. The first bullet missed its mark, drilling a tiny hole into the wall next to her. The second, however, ruptured the skin of her left thigh. The pain that followed shortly after was enough to leave her too shell-shocked to make a sound as she dropped onto the tiled floor. Any scream she might have made otherwise would have been drowned out by the blaring alarms anyway.

Jin froze where he was, but only for a moment as he turned to look at the one who spoke. It was a guard and Jin's amber-gold orbs looked him over once, twice before analyzing the limits of his movements and his "self" as to the skills the man could probably do.

He would have snickered as he noticed the gun was pointed at him. He knew that Lorelei could do something that would distract him, seeing as Jin was only a few paces from the guard and could probably knock him out-cold. He watched and assumed that the man knew that he could and probably be unable to take care of both of them at once, which was reinforced when he was backing up towards the alarm. He glanced at Lorelei for a mere moment as he watched her pick up a mug at which, Jin began to move. As soon as the mug came into contact with his shoulder, Jin's foot had connected with the guard's stomach, causing him to crumble down to the floor in reaction. He was out cold.

However, he had heard gunshots. They weren't aimed at him, he knew, they had been aimed at Lorelei. He didn't hear the second shot, for he heard the alarm blaring through the air in that exact moment, causing Jin to begin a string of colorful adjectives. He turned to his partner, to find that she had been shot in her leg, causing her to have landed on the floor.

Wonderful.

He ran to her side, and without waiting for her approval, he heaved her over his shoulder and began to run out of the room, knowing full well that they would have gotten all the stuff that they needed to call this mission a success. The only thing that they had to worry about, was to get out of here.

Alive.

They were on the second floor now, into that corridor that the traps had been in. There was only so much time left before all these traps would be working again. Just as he cleared the area of where the he had lost his jacket, the guns had begun to work, signaling the end of the dormant traps. He hoped that Lorelei would be shooting at the guards that would be following on after them. With swift but smooth movements, they were on the first floor.

Quickly, he moved away from the next guard, by spinning on his heel just as he turned around the corner and guard. Before the guard realized what had happened, they were already gone... out the door into the blizzard.

He ran all the way to the car before he remembered that the car no longer worked. He swore before diving into the car, quickly withdrawing a first aid kit and immediately set to work on Lorelei's leg. Ignoring her protests to his movements, he pulled off his gloves to set to work on fixing her up. For now. When it was wrapped, he grabbed all of her belongings as he handed it to her, heaved her over the shoulder, and began running. His aviators prevented him from getting slow-blind...

Soon, about half an hour has passed and his running had slowed considerably. They were on the edge of town now though. He ran towards the first building he saw and ran through the front doors and ascended the stairs quickly as he skipped three steps. Then they reached his floor and he opened the door quickly, dropping her relatively gently on the couch before closing the door and sinking down to the floor as he took off his sunglasses.

For now, he was going to enjoy the fact that he was back inside his relatively plain apartment home... that was warm. Immensely warm.

Lorelei did not appreciate being thrown over someone's shoulder like a sack of potatoes. At all. Although, given the situation, she supposed a 'thank you' was more appropriate were it not for the fact that comprehensible words seemed beyond her grasp. Instead, the pain that was currently shooting up her leg at the slightest jostle left her capable of little more than whimpering in her almost-fetal position. But that was only because it would have been impossible to curl up completely given how she was currently being ferried.

A single bullet to the leg, and look what you’ve been reduced to, a voice in her head taunted. Lorelei ignored it, instead biting harder down on her lower lip as she watched the approaching staircase with apprehension. This was not going to be fun.

A sound that was some cross of an irritated growl and a pained whimper came from the back of her throat as Jin bound the steps two, three at a time. With each time his foot hit solid ground, the male’s shoulder inadvertently jabbed roughly into the pit of her stomach. She supposed it was a blessing that she’d decided against eating before commencing the mission, as throwing up right now would probably be decidedly unprofessional. That didn’t stop the bile from rising up her throat anyway. Stupid, stupid bodily functions. She swallowed it back down and reached distractedly for her gun as guards rounded the corner behind them.

Her lack of footing made it difficult to take aim, so Lorelei resorted to shooting at the areas near the guards’ feet. She wasn’t one for killing, but shooting a couple limbs was acceptable. Especially since it was their lives on the line. They were out in the cold snow in less than half the time it had taken for the two of them to infiltrate the building, but right now, Lorelei was almost grateful for the weather. And at the rate her body was succumbing to the temperature, it wasn’t entirely implausible that the pain would soon be driven down by the numbing cold. The whimpers quieted briefly as she buried the lower half of her face into her sleeve. It didn’t look like they were being followed just yet. Or maybe she just couldn’t see them through all the accursed snow. Either way, it looked like they had high chances of getting away safely this time.

Which was why she protested when she found herself being dropped onto the hood of Jin’s dilapidated car as he began rummaging around for what was most presumably the first aid kit she’d glimpsed earlier. “Stop it! If we don’t get out of here soon—“ She flinched as bandages came into contact with the wound, glancing nervously back and forth between her blood-stained pants and the facility looming nearby. There were people coming out now, shouting orders she couldn’t quite hear over the howling of the wind. But their objective was clear; Lorelei and Jin were to be either dragged back for questioning or silenced. The blonde shuddered, just as the male dumped all of her belongings—sniper rifle, suitcase, everything—into her arms and hefted the blonde over his shoulder again.

Grimacing at the sudden shift in position, Lorelei glanced down to inspect the wrappings on her thigh. It was only sub-standard at best, designed only to quell the bleeding as a short-term solution. But given the time constraints, it really wasn’t all that bad. But she really wasn’t looking forward to seeing what the gunshot wound looked like later. She tore her eyes away from the bandages to squint into the distance. The nuclear facility was far into the distance now; hopefully the guards would have realized that getting away by car was impossible with the current snow pileup and resorted to simply searching the surrounding area.

The weather had worked wonders in helping reduce the pain to a muted throbbing, and as all the adrenaline began seeping slowly out of her body, Lorelei closed her eyes. She was beginning to feel lightheaded—no doubt from the blood loss—and she didn’t quite see any point in fighting it any longer. The rest of the way back (where to, she didn’t exactly know) was spent with her teetering somewhere on the brink of consciousness. Only when she felt herself being set down onto something decidedly softer than Jin’s shoulder did she regain her awareness. She strained to glance over at him from what seemed like a couch, too frostbitten and apprehensive to move in case the pain came roaring back.

“…Your place?” she managed to croak.

Jin opened his eyes slowly, as the snow in his hair melted, leaving streaks of water running down his face, causing him to have that wet-looking appearance as he groaned to stand up. It felt as if his joints were creaking from the running in the bitter cold.

“…Your place?” she managed to croak.

"Yes, it was the closest place I could bring us to without us suffering frostbite," he said. He had walked over with frozen fingers to Lorelei and knelt down before her as he warmed his hands up and stopped before sighing and getting up again and walked over to the kitchen. The sound of the faucet ran for a bit before he came back. "I'm going to have to cut this part of your pants off, all right? So I can treat the wound now... I don't want you to have to get sick... Not unless you want to remove your pants." He wasn't being suggestive nor was he trying to be smart. He had the sound of concern and slight worry. He didn't want her to get an infection. He got up from kneeling and then picked up from the bathroom a large towel and placed it over her head. "Dry yourself off for a moment before I treat it then... I'm going to shower."

He stripped off his shirt, again revealing his scarred torso before he walked into the bathroom and closing the door enough to leave the door slightly ajar. When he came back out, which was in relatively short time of roughly three or less minutes, he wore only a dark blue silk dress shirt that revealed his chest as he left it unbuttoned. Then he wore something similar in style to skinny jeans but baggier. Around his neck, however, was a thin, black leather necklace that appeared to have wrapped around his neck several times and from it hung a sort of sea-green crystal that was four centimeters tall and one and a half centimeter wide. He took Lorelei's jacket away and hung it on the door hanger by the door before he attended to Lorelei's injury.

His fingers were quick and gentle. He wasn't at all surprised at the messy injury before he took out small tongs to dig out the bullet. He peered closely in before the tongs went in, and swiftly pulled it out, as if not wanting to cause Lorelei extra discomfort. He knew how those kinds of injuries are like. Pain was not always a fun thing to experience, especially if you feel a pair of tongs digging around your flesh to find the bullet. The bullet fell into a little metal basin with a clang and he then cleaned the injury and stitched it. He cleaned off her leg the rest of the blood that was on her before getting up to start cleaning up, dumping the rags and the like into the trash bin, and placed the metal bin in the kitchen.

"You hungry?" he asked, knowing that after that kind of thing, they'd want food. Freezing in the snowstorm like that was a lot of work and he was absolutely starved. "Or do you want to shower first?" It wasn't a matter of being perverted, it's just that he didn't want her to get sick, just like he seemed to care of the injury she had. He then buttoned up the shirt half-way up.

His apartment was a small studio and relatively plain, but neat. On the couch Lorelei sat on, was a black leather love seat with a single leather chair perpendicular to it. Facing the couch was a large plasma TV that hung on the wall, with the wires visible. Underneath on the carpeted floor was what appears to be an expensive looking DVD player resting on a small shelf with dozens and dozens of DVD's shelved neatly underneath it along with several thick looking books. To the left of the "living room" was his mattress that lay on the floor without a bed frame. His plaid colored sheets was messy as if he had to leave without the time to make it as a digital clock rested on several more books next to a stainless steel lamp on the floor. At the foot of the bed lay several bags and guns that lay dissembled. Above that was shelved CD cases and a sleek black CD player. Next to the bags lies a stretch of nothing before it comes to the bathroom and then the walk-in closet. Just behind the living room was the bathroom and on the right of the living room was the kitchen. Nothing decorated the walls aside from the splash of color that might have been done by a paintball gun. Next to the closet was the kitchen, with a wall blocking off part of the view from the couch. On the other side of the wall appears to be the washer and dryer, stacked on top of one another and a counter of black granite with cherry mahogany wood cabinets. The fridge was partially covered off by another wall that stood next to the front door with the stove several inches away from the fridge. The sink appears to be on the side with the washer and dryer. There appeared to be a window on the left of the stove.

"Sorry if the place is messy," he murmured.
