Katarine glared uncharacteristically at the mission file, her finger prodding at the text as if she was hoping the letters would somehow rearrange themselves to a name more to her liking. The word remained unchanged, staring back at her relentlessly from under the multiple layers of pink and yellow fluorescent ink that she had highlighted it with.

Out of all the places in the world that the Earl could have targeted, why did it have to be the Donauinselfest?

To make matters worse, it had been labeled a Level One Priority mission—capital letters and all. Of course, she could see how practical it was for the Earl to consider this as something of interest. With an estimated three million people in attendance, he would have been a fool to overlook the whole affair. But that didn't mean she couldn't wish he had, especially when Katarine was quite sure she knew some of the people in attendance. Not exactly her friends per se, but she wouldn't wish any harm on them all the same.

Messing up was not an option here.

Mentally cursing Germany's close proximity to Austria, the slightly seasick and plenty miserable exorcist shifted in her seat in hopes of finding a more comfortable position. She shoved the files back into her bag and out of sight, trying to ignore the nausea that accompanied the movement. They still had a bit of time left before they reached their destination; hopefully, it would be enough for her to mentally prepare herself for what lay ahead. Part of her wanted to crack down under the pressure—because no, she wasn’t ready for this sort of important stuff yet—while her more rational side reasoned that a mental breakdown on the ferry ride wouldn’t help matters much anyway.

She settled on distracting herself with thoughts of the other exorcists. Most of them were unfamiliar to her; people she might or might not have glimpsed occasionally back at headquarters. There was Cassiel Mattei, first. He was an unfamiliar face, but out of all the information she’d been given, what stood out the most was the little tidbit about him being somewhat proficient in German. Now that was someone she could probably look forward to meeting. Then there were Ling-Hua Yuan and Bianca Bückman. The latter of the two sounded vaguely familiar, but she couldn’t recall having ever met either of the two in person. The last one on the list was Cerys Trystine, a name that Katarine was definitely familiar with. Hadn’t they sparred together a while back…?

The passengers around her were starting to gather their belongings now, and Katarine too began reaching for the bag at her feet. She hadn’t packed much; just the bare necessities, her Innocence and a golem that—judging from all the jerky movements coming from inside her bag—didn’t take kindly to being cramped with her personal belongings for hours at a time. There might have been a cell phone in there somewhere too, but Katarine was not about to go digging around to see if she’d remembered to bring one. Tossing the knapsack over her shoulder, she rose from her seat, impatiently drumming her fingers along the surface of the windows as the ferry came to a halt. If she stayed on the boat for much longer, she couldn’t guarantee that she wouldn’t throw up her breakfast right into the aisles.

”Ladies and gentlemen, please make sure you have all your personal belongings before leaving the ferry. Exit at the front of the ferry and make sure to watch your step—“

The last part of the announcement came just as Katarine stumbled over the last portion of the staircase, barely managing to land safely on her feet. Breathing something between a moan and a sigh, she set off to look for her fellow exorcists. Everywhere she turned, she was greeted with the bustle of human activity. The crowds seemed intimidating enough as was, but to think that this was only a small fraction of the expected attendees… The exorcist shook off the thought, instead focusing her attentions on trying to find the group. Easier said than done when coupled with her nausea, but she eventually caught sight of several familiar uniforms and made her way over.

“Does anyone have water? Please," she asked, forgoing greetings altogether, her words muffled by the pale hand she held in front of her mouth. The brunette maintained a safe distance between her and the other Black Order members, eyes flashing back and forth nervously between them and the closest garbage can…just in case she really did have to go empty out the contents of her stomach after all. It hadn’t felt too bad after she’d gotten off the ferry, but Katarine was not about to take any chances.
