He sighed when he heard her explanation and shook his head as he listened, before finally deciding to simply rest his head back. He knew he was in no condition to deal with petty things like these. That was what the guards were for. It explained why the Rune Knights were required- she was one hell of a girl too curious for her own good (if she wasn't lying to him). The cool night wind that blew through his window stirred the translucent veil of curtains and eased the heat from his wounds. Though the pain was persistent, it was constant, easy enough for him to get used to. A spark of magic he sensed made him lift his head to look . He had meant to stop her, but with her up so close, he was stumped for a brief second. Then, her cool touch landed on his arm. As the pain receeded, he stared at her with something akin to fear. With the rune re-burned onto his skin, it was too raw and distorted to deflect any magic. However, when she stumbled back, the reflex to move forward and catch her overode the rest of his thoughts and he slipped off his bed instantly to hold her up by her shoulders. "As much as I may appreciate your help, my lady, but sometimes pain is the antidote," he hissed at her, trying to keep the level of anxiety in his voice as low as possible. "Now what is wrong with you? What attacks? Why isn't Jegan doing his job to protect you?" His golden gaze was hard filled with the intent to get answers. Edited by Seiss, Mar 26 2009, 05:15 AM.

"Yes, but I don't like seeing people I know in pain, and besides," Sayuri murmured, huffing slightly, "that relief is only temporary, probably won't last passed early morning... And you did help me, so I only returned the favor." Her face flushed brightly, seeing his gaze so intent on finding the answers to what she meant. She couldn't help but notice the large size of his hands and his chest, despite it covered in bandages. She's never been this close to a male's body like this before and blushed only harder still, her face as red as a cherry, at the thought of what he would look like without those bandages. "If you think that the attacks are from others, it isn't," she said quietly, looking away. "I was..." her voice faltered for a moment as she recalled her memories of the attack, almost whimpering in reply, "I was being hurt by me." The memories of the pain flooded straight into her mind, tears forming in the edge of her eyes but looked away, making sure he would not see her in her weak moment. Her back seemed to tingle in response... |

He shifted back and held her as far away as he could when he glimpsed her blush. It would be best... to minimize contact as much as possible.... How in appropriate it would be for her to remain in his room with the both of them not fully dressed. What a mess this is, he thought glumly. "Here, sit," he said gruffly, helping her to a chair. With the pain almost non-existent, it felt almost odd to be able to move so freely. As much as he was thankful, he knew the pain must come back. It wouldn't do to soothe the demon inside him just yet. He felt almost guilty when she was near tears, but stubbornly refused to acknowledge it. Returning to sit at the edge of his bed, he faced her. "Not enough information. That tells me practically nothing, my lady." Edited by Seiss, Mar 26 2009, 05:43 AM.

Sayuri's blush still lingered on her face but she didn't sit, in fear that her back might come in contact with the back so she shook her head. "No thank you," she said, the tears still lingering. Gingerly, one of her hands reached to touch her back and flinched when she found out it still hurt. "Um... could you also... not call me with such formality? I'm not used to it and I'm fine if you just say 'Lady Sayuri,' if that's as far as you can go," she said, remembering Jegan's reply and reaction to what she had said a few days ago. She took a deep breath, her tears disappearing. "Erm... Remember my tattoo? Well, my attacks and me being unwell come from it." She faced her back towards him, pointing out the obvious. On her neck had thin lines of her tattoo, with red skin around it as if it looked like she was burned by something or rubbed against something a long time to have it look that way. Then turned back around to face him again, "Well, I don't know why I have them, but it seems that the attacks cause my back to feel raw and that it makes me..." she flinched, "in pain for awhile. The time it take varies, from what I've seen... and I've had two-" she cut herself off using her hand, realizing that she said something she didn't want to say. He nodded dismissively when she stated her preference on how he addresses her. Clasping his hands and resting his elbows on his knees, he leaned forward and peered at the reddened skin of her slender neck. A small portion of the tattoo was peeking out from under her collar. What king would place a tattoo, imbued by somesort of a spell to hurt his servants? Unless it exacts control? Or perhaps... it wasn't the Ranian King's doing. "So you don't know what it's for? Who placed it on you and when?" he asked, gaze drifting back up to rest on her face. "You are telling me it just appeared on your back one day, and it's hurting you?" A mystery? It appeared more like somesort of a distorted logic to him. Or rather, it had no logic at all. Where, who, how, what and when- nothing. There had to be a motive for such a curse (he assumed) to be placed on her. Yet... there appeared to be none... if it made sense at all. "Is your King aware of this? That you are unwell and unfit to carry out your duty? Why are you sent on this mission if you are suffering?" |

Regretfully, she looked down at her feet and whispered, "No, I do not, but I wish I could know what it could mean or what it is actually doing to me." She paused for a moment before continuing, "Actually, I do not know how it came to be... my..." she faltered, "mother told me that it had been there when I was born, but it wasn't really dark and it was really faint in color. I don't remember much from when I was born but she had told me that it had only darkened when I first started playing with magic." As Shura processed what he was thinking he then spoke again with questions regarding her king, in return, she winced. "He seems to be the only person to know of what it is," she whispered, "but he never said anything. When I first came to him, I was only... about five or something, and when my mother showed my back to him, she had told me that his eyes had gotten quite wide with surprise and then regained his composure a moment later. At the time, my tattoo had only been as wide as the size of my hand. For some reason, it seems to grow every time I have an attack or if I use magic in a... I guess the word for is, all at once? No, that's not right... Well, I guess when I use a large portion of my strength and magic at once it 'grows'..." She looked deep in thought, as her hand rested before her mouth, rolled up into a slight fist. She seemed troubled by the question before she answered with uncertainty in her voice, "My teachers had often told me that I was the most powerful mage that they had and that it had been reasonable to send me. At the time, I only had these attacks... once a month or sometimes every other month and it wasn't even remotely close to what... I was recently having." She frowned. Why did he send her if he knew that she was suffering? Why did he have the reaction that he had? Why was it growing in the first place? Is it a curse or a seal...? A Seal? She dropped that idea, it was impossible. What is the King hiding from her that she should have suspected in the first place? Shaking off her thoughts for a moment, she looked up at Shura and smiled shyly, "I-I don't even know why I'm talking so much... Um..." She flinched when something flashed in front of her eyes. As soon as it occurred, she placed her hand over it, only to discover it had been nothing as she pulled her hand away. What was that? she thought, somewhat annoyed. |

He fell silent for a moment, just looking at her thoughtfully with an expressionless face. A tapping noise made him turn to look over at his door. "You should go back to your room," he said softly. Moving silently towards his door, Shura pressed an ear against the wood and listened. Satisfied, that the guards were asleep, he motioned for her to come. "Unbelievably useless, but a good thing that they are now, or you won't be able to get out." Shura pulled open the door silently and stood ready at the side. If any of them wakes, he could easily knock them out without them knowing who it was. "Go now." |

She watched him absorb the information, and she started to feel uncomfortable under his constant gaze, his face expressionless. Before she could say anything, her head shot towards the door, and almost jumped at the sudden soft words that Shura spoke. She sighed a soft sigh of relief, glad that he didn't seem angry or in any way having any kinds of bad thoughts towards what she just said. She wondered mildly if he trusts her more now... But shook her head, doubting it, after all, she was just someone who was going to be the person he should protect on her journey to find the missing mage from Rania. She followed after him when he went to listen at the door, and she smiled as she listened to how useless the guards were. He motioned her for her to come closer as he opened the door quietly. She felt hesitant at what she was going to do, but she had told him something that she hadn't told to much of anyone. Quickly, she hugged him from the front, whispering, "Thank you so much for listening with an open mind," before she disappeared out the door and down the hall, her footsteps silent as she disappeared around the corner. Although he had been the one to ask the questions, she could have easily evaded those questions by lying, but she felt that she couldn't, especially under his strong gaze. Something about him... made her feel... She shook her head, letting go of the idea. She wasn't going to think that way, not ever. Sayuri silently ran down the halls, remembering where her room as located until she found the hall that was recognizable, avoiding guards along the way. She found her room, opened the door so no one heard her and closed it behind her quietly. Just as she did, she noticed the sun was rising and she yawned. That conversation with Shura had for some reason, made her relax and calm, as if she had breathed in fresh air for the first time in a long while. She took of her shoes and changed into her nightgown, curling up on the bed under the sheets as she fell asleep again. |

A groan of frustration and pain sounded from his throat as he brought his arms together slowly to shrug on his soft leather vest over his long sleeved shirt. Ever since the sun's glow appeared over the horizon and its rays shone through the Eastern window, the burning pain on his back returned. He had not sensed the demon's presence while the pain was gone and still haven't either, so that was a good sign. "Captain," a soft familiar voice came from behind. He stopped, shifting his weight onto one foot before turning carefully around. "You haven't called me that for the past five years. Why the change, Keira?" The female knight bowed to him and kept her gaze from his eyes, choosing to look at his collar bone instead. After so many years, he could recognize the emotions that lingered behind her eyes- they always turned a shade darker whenever she felt torn, helpless, remorseful.... "You've only rested for two days-" "You are not answering me, Knight," he interrupted her, frustration slipping into his tone. What? Wasn't the news his own king had brought to him bad enough? Next he would have his own friends distance themselves? No... they should... after all, he was planning to leave. It would make it easier for them.... "I'm sorry." Shaking her head, she gave him a bitter smile. Heaving a sigh, he took a step towards her. The pain that wrought through his body made his body tense and movements stiff. Keira moved in swiftly, stepping to his side before slipping an under his to steady him. He flinched, struggling to breathe in properly while swallowing a groan. "Will you walk me to the mage?" he breathed. "Can't sleep all day. Duty." She knew of course, that there as no way she could speak- because it would most likely end up in a shouting match. Another reason was because there was a lump stuck in a throat. So, she merely nodded and helped him out, leading him to cross the courtyard that would lead to the mage's room. Sayuri awoke several hours later, and sat up in bed stretching. She yawned, suddenly feeling oddly refreshed, as if telling Shura had relaxed her considerably. Why? She didn't know and thought that if she found out, something will only come back her way negatively. Noticing that when she stretched, she did not... She got out of bed and peered into the mirror, noticing that the red skin around her tattoo was now gone and that her body looked as if it were untouched the first time she had first met Shura or even before that. The only thing that remained was the fact that her tattoo had "grown" or expanded. She noted to herself the odd tinge of black on the flower, but it was very, very light, in a light grey color. She placed her hand on the desk before her, suddenly missing her room. She sighed, knowing that after Shura heals, that it would be time to go travel, searching for that mage... that means no decent bed for a long time while they traveled. She dressed herself in a gown that the maids had seemed to set out for her, modestly made and it suited her perfectly. It was a dark color in contrast to her maroon hair and fiery ruby eyes. Her ivory skin also made a shy pretty contrast, as her face had a slight blush to them as she had just washed her face. She wondered if Jegan was standing at the door now, seeing as it was sometime in the early afternoon. Sayuri opened the door to find Jegan standing guard, if not with a worried expression... from what appears to have been from the day before when she had her attack. She bit her lip. Now they'll probably wonder if she was even up for the job but... She felt oddly refreshed and strangely powerful, as though something had broken when she fell asleep last night. "Jegan?" she whispered, somewhat nervous. However, before he could decently reply, Sayuri spotted Keira and Shura walk across the court yard, Shura slightly leaning on Keira for support... and her eyes widened slightly as she realized and remembered that he was still severely injured and hurt from whatever or however he got those injuries from. Sayuri stepped out of her room and shut the door behind herself, suddenly with a focused eye. What on earth would Shura want with... oh, right. "Keira? Shura?" she greeted, albeit a little confused. For some reason, she had a feeling she was going to go see the king. Then again, her little visit to Shura's room the night before shouldn't even be told to anyone. |
