"Lady Sayuri!" Resee rushed forward when the mage's coughing intensified. However, when the mage's image started to flicker, she hesitated, puzzled and wary of the powerful magical signature that was literally radiating off her in electrical waves.

Her eyes widened in mild suprise when a ripple of deep, lusterous red washed away the dull, ordinary colour of the mage's hair. The layer of magic that Resee sensed before shattered an instant the colour of ruby spilled into the iris of the mage's eyes.

Uncertainty and confusion caused Resee to fall one step behind her usual swift reaction. The mage collapsed before she could catch her fom her fall. Abandoning caution, Resee dropped to her knees and laid a hand on the mage's shoulder, anxiety and bewilderment etched onto the frown that rarely touched her face. "What's wrong? What attacks do you speak of?"

Then she glimpsed an eerie glow that came through the fabric of the mage's clothes. Unsure if it was a good sign or otherwise, it only served to confuse her further. She had never seen anything like it, or felt such potent magic pulsing underneath, from its source. Gently, Resee took hold of the smaller girl's shoulder and wrapped an arm around to support her before looking up in search of Jegan. "Jegan!" she called, a hint of desperation entering her voice. "Something is wrong with the mage!"

The two knights who appeared to be engaged in a glaring contest turned their heads and hurried towards them when they saw that the mage had fallen, curled up in Resee's arms as if she were in pain.

"What happened?" Jegan demanded, further annoyed by the interruption. It didn't take long before he sobered and realized how dire the situation was. Muttering an apology to Resee, he hauled the mage into his arms and raced to her room, Resee at his heels whle Keira automatically called for the healer.

"Can't... breathe!" she gasped, her eyes shut tight, her arms still holding herself as if to try to stop herself from breaking apart. She groaned as the burning took over, no longer causing her to cough. She couldn't say anything as to Resee's questions, and she desperately wanted to calm them down from worrying about her, but of course, that was stupid, of course they would after seeing her in such a way of pain.

In answer to Resee's questions, all she said with a huff was, "Attacks... from..." before another wave hit her, the burning feeling as if it had begun to spread, as if her tattoo is moving along her back, like a bunch of snakes put together and they were all trying to move away from each other, all slithering above one another. Gasping for air as Jegan and Keira walked over and realized what was going on.

She felt herself being lifted from the ground and into what she guessed to be Jegan's arms. She grunted in pain, her back now hot to the touch, even through the fabric of her clothes. Beads of sweat began to pour down her face as she felt the sparks of magic release, trying to heal her pain that she was experiencing. The sparks of magic were jumping all over the place over her back, trying to soothe the pain, but the hot sensation on her back grew hotter until it slowly began to slowly eat away the fabric, as if were a creature who ate everything in its path.

"En..." she grunted, trying to fight the pain that now enveloped her back, spreading towards her shoulders and lower back. She heard the vague words of a healer and barely managed to gasp, "A healer won't be able to help me..." Wincing as the pain came again.

She felt herself being placed on the bed, and she immediately curled up, the fabric on her back dissolving to the point where there was now a thin layer of it left, revealing the clear lines of her brightly glowing tattoo, the roses seeming as if it were moving, the petals on it multiplying.

Then she blacked out from the pain and the roses continued to glow, growing bigger across her back, thorns of the stem beginning to appear as it covered the Rania's King's Court Symbol, as if it were a snake making itself intertwining with the symbol.

Then, the Rose looked as if it erupted into flames, leaving in its path a long trail of black thorned-stems and the rose, now charred and black, wilting. Then the rose returned, glowing a soft red-pink color as the rest of the the tattoo slowly returned to its regular pale blue glow, before the glow faded back out into the regular colored tattoo that it was originally, the thin fabric not revealing her back completely before the fabric, where sparks of magic then touched upon it, making it return back to its original form.

A soft, gentle groan was heard before it settled quietly on soft breathing, showing as if Sayuri had fallen asleep, sparks of magic still flickering every few seconds, as if it was scared that it might come again.

"Mother... don't leave me..." was all that was heard before she settled almost peacefully asleep, her body still curled up, making her appear almost too fragile to the touch.

The healer had been dismissed and was told to report to the king. A pregnant silence hung between them as they stood by the bed. The sisters had their gaze fixed on the mage's back, while Jegan was glaring resolutely at the floor.

"It looks like a combination of a seal and a curse," Keira was the first to break the silence, lowering herself to one knee to get a better look at the now translucent fabric.

Both Jegan and Resee looked up at her when the curse was mentioned. They had heard of course, about the curse that was laid upon the Royal decendants of Rania. Some believed that it was just a rumour, but after so many years, one would start to think that it was probably true. "Are you saying that... the mage is one of royal blood?" Jegan asked hesitantly.

"Perhaps." Keira nodded at him. "After all, it is said that as long as a droplet of royal blood is present, the curse still applies. If I am not mistaken, she doesn't have to be of direct descent."

Confused and slightly saddened by the recent string of unfortunate events, Resee searched her sister's face for any trace of emotion. She felt so much more alone whenever Keiran chose to distance herself. There was no better comfort than to know what her sister was truly thinking. "Does this change anything?"

None of them answered. The three of them knew, that it could change everything. However, whether or not it really does, none of them would know. Not until they find the truth.

"We have to see to our duties. See you in the morning, Captain." Keira bowed and waited for Resee to do the same before taking hold of her sister's arm and tugged her along to leave.

Jegan left the room soon after and stayed guard until midnight.

Sayuri awoke, her eyes fluttering open for a moment as she slowly opened her eyes, aware of the low light that was filtering in from the window.

Wait, light? That's not bright enough to be even considered light, she thought quickly, waking up to find that it was the low, dim lighting of the moonlight. She sat up and stretched, feeling the stiffness of her dress. Using her magic, she quickly changed her clothes into her favorite kind of clothing, a simplistic white dress with two straps on her shoulders, the dress coming to her knees, her ivory legs peering out from underneath her as she slipped into shoes similar that of ballet shoes, but with a thicker sole and it made it seem as if her footsteps were non-existent.

However, before she had changed her clothes, she had stood in front of the mirror, glancing at her tattoo on the back. Nothing had changed except for the multiple of roses and the extra length of the thorny stems. She sighed.

After changing, she opened the door, surprised at the silence of the halls and corridors. She stood outside her door, quietly closing it as she wondered about where she was.

Let's see, since I am a guest, then perhaps that the area I am currently staying in is the guest quarters? That must mean that there'll be empty rooms next to me and such, she thought as she picked a really slow pace of how she was to walk. What to do? The restricted section sounds... she paused in her thoughts, as she moved to the side, hiding behind a pillar, avoiding a yawning guard that walked by.

Oh, right, there's guards at night here, she thought, stepping in front of a door. She opened it, and found the room empty, though there were nice furnishings and such inside. I wonder if every guest room looks the same? Or if they're customized like the one back at Rania? she thought curiously as she moved to the next one.

She opened the door quietly and found it also unoccupied. It had the same furnishings but was arranged differently around the room.

However, after a few halls over, she found a pair of guards guarding outside of a guest room door. She frowned. Why would there be guards... she thought, when she realized they were snoring quite loudly.

She stifled a giggle, realizing that the two of them were asleep quite deeply while standing up. She hid behind a pillar that lead into the hall, watching behind her cautiously and in front of her, she silently walked to the door, finding it unlocked and opened it, walked inside and then closed the door behind her as she stepped into a dark room.

I wonder what's in here that's so special that requires guards? she thought, looking around the dark room. As she waited for her eyes to adjust, she noticed that the room had the same furnishings like the other guest bedrooms but was also rearranged differently. She froze when she noticed a shape in bed as it moved. T-There's someone in here?! A traveler of high importance to the king? Or... or... someone...

It seemed to have woken up and that left her with nowhere to hide. Frantic, she hid behind a chair, hoping that the figure did not hear her, her heart pounding rapidly against her chest.

Being forced to lie in bed all day, doing nothing but drift in and out of sleep left him wide awake now that the night has come. The news, the king himself had brought to him only left a burn in his chest, a loathing for himself. He couldn't stop thinking of the countless lives... so many in the past... and now another one. Perhaps it was truly time... to leave the Rune Knights.

He sighed for what felt like the umpteenth time and shifted to a cooler spot on the bed.

"I am not going to choose to end your life. That will not be an option," the King said firmly. "You will simply have to learn to live with it again."

Was the king... why would the king want to keep him? After so much destruction he had wrought?

His thoughts froze abruptly when he heard the faint click of an opening door. Shura pushed against the bed with his lower arms, attempting to try and roll over onto his back to see who it was. It was a vulnerable position to be in and he certainly didn't intend to die from an assassin's blade (if th intruder was one). A shuddering breath escaped his lips when he finally managed to push himself onto his side before falling onto his back. Swallowing in a groan, he tensed and waited for the pain to pass.

"Show yourself," his voice was strained and barely a whisper.

Sayuri froze, realizing that the voice belonged to Shura. It sounded like he was in a lot of pain as the male shifted in his bed, her head peering slightly over the chair. Her eyes widened and a small gasp escaped her lips when she caught sight of the bandages that lined his torso and arm.

Quietly, she showed herself, the moonlight peering in gently, reflecting her maroon hair as a dark shade of red, and her ruby eyes were wide with shock and worry for the male before her. Her hand lifted to be placed in front of her chest, the other touching the chair as she slowly walked forward.

"Shura," she whispered, thin and strained, as if the sight had shocked her that someone could get that many bandages and injuries on a single body. Her eyes grew wider as she stepped closer, noticing how many bandages there were on his body. She's never liked someone to be injured, as it made her want to be the person that would help heal them, with regular herbs and such. After all, she loved seeing their smiles of gratitude after she helped them recover.

She walked until she was at the side of the bed, both of her hands held before her chest, as if trying to make herself believe that what she's seeing wasn't real as they squeezed tightly. Even if Shura had been suspicious about her, there was no way to doubt the worry that clearly showed on her face.

Alright, maybe choosing to lie on his back was a bad idea. The numbing pain on his back was starting to sting and burn again. He was sure his movements had caused the healing wounds to tear.

At first, he coudln't recognize her voice, but when she came close, Shura shifted up and pushed himself to a sitting position against the pillows. He flinched. Never mind the pain, what in hell was the mage doing here? "Why are you here? How did you get in?"

Was she spying now?

Sayuri was taken aback by the anger in his voice, but it was only reasonable that he was, after all she had sneaked into the room, hoping to see something interesting only to find that it was housing Shura.

She didn't answer for a moment, thinking that if she replied a certain way, it'd only make him hate her more than he already did. She could see the pain that it was causing Shura and stood next to the bed, before walking forward until she was standing beside the bed, barely a few inches away from the bed. She felt somewhat scared at what she felt like she wanted to do and as well as what to say to his question, but for some reason, his face seemed to wonder if she came in to do something bad.

"I'm not going to kill you if that's what you're wondering," she murmured, quickly adding, "nor do I intend to spy on you if that's what you're thinking, which I'm most obviously not." She wondered if she should try to relieve him of his pain, even if it was for a moment, although that kind of magic may relieve him of his pain, it doesn't heal it and lets it heal at a normal rate.

Suddenly, she remembered what she was going to say to him when they would see each other again.

She took a step back and bowed deeply, saying quickly with an embarrassed face as she shut her eyes shut, her face facing the ground, "I'm sorry." Her curtain of maroon hair covered her face, thanks to the deep bow.

"No?" He eyed her with distrust. "Then why are you here? Just to apologize? And for what, may I ask? No one aside from his lordship and those of my order know where I am. I am here because no one is meant to see me. So tell me, if you aren't spying, what are you doing?"

Shura couldn't bring himself to believe in someone who had time and again proven herself unreliable- at least to him. He could have simply shouted for the guards and she would be exposed, sent back to Rania for good. But he couldn't understand why else she was standing there, bowing to him as if she truly meant it.

His vision wavered ad he released a shuddering breath he forgot he had been holding and an immaterial band tightened around his head. He tried to stiffle his cough form the pain, but his body shook from a bout that escaped.

Sayuri could feel the anger erupt in her but it coolly faded away. Of course he was still irked about her entry. She slowly rose herself up from the bow and said with a regretful face, "I'm apologizing for our meeting for the first time, for letting my anger get the best of me before I could thoroughly think things through." She paused as she thought over his questions he asked of her.

Awkwardly, she sat down at the very edge of his bed, the furthest she could be away from. "I'm here by accident, I couldn't sleep so I kind of went off to explore and I thought that the guest bedrooms might be the same as the one's back at Rania, since I have a knack for exploring..." A pause... "I had been sleeping all afternoon, thanks to one of..." she bit her lip, wondering if she should tell him, but then again, he would probably have found out from someone else anyway. "Thanks to one of my attacks." Almost as if on cue, her tattoo glowed for a split second, causing Sayuri to flinch.

She looked up and caught him trying to hold in a cough, probably from his injuries. Her face turning red as she stood up and walked over until she was at his side, her hand shakily went forward until it touched his arm, sending relief throughout Shura's wounded body.

Quickly, she pulled her hand away and backed up all the way until she hit the wall, afraid that he was going to yell at her for doing what she did, which he probably would and will, probably with anger. However, when she backed up into the wall, she yelped out in pain, her back still raw from the attack earlier in the day, wrapping her arms around herself.
