She isn't in her room... or the libary... or the previous courtyard!

Shaking off the growing anxiety in the pit of his stomach, Jegan raced through the corridors and looked in numerous courtyards and even went through the trouble (humiliation) to stop the maids passing by to ask for directions. Most of them didn't know where the mage was and his anxiety was fast developing into panic. He should get up earlier next time, so he could affords short trips before duty.

The constriction around his chest loosened and eventually vanished when he caught sight of the mage, seated on the steps of a fountain with her head resting in the crook of her arm, on the rim of the pool. Sleeping? Guilt gnawed at his insides when he thought of the probable reason for her exhaustion.

As silently as he could, he approached the fountain and sat, a respectable distance from her. at the rim of the pool. His gaze lingered on her peaceful face, though traces of fatigue was still present and a wan smile tugged at the edge of his lips. Just two days ago, he called her 'witch', yet now it sounded like an inappropriate word. Two days ago, he was completely distrustful of her, but now he found himself wanting to trust. Perhaps it was the work of her magic? Well, no. If it was, he would have sensed it.

Shura... he needed to understand her, or try to get to know the mage. His friend had expressed, during his visit in the morning, that he was still vehemently suspicious of her. Knowing that it was pointless to argue, Jegan reverted the topic to his well being. Shura had said the 'sealing' was complete the morning before and only needed a few more days' rest to recover. Jegan was slightly skeptical. His friend had his entire torso bandaged, along with his wrists. Well... he would have to pay him a visit later furing the day, just to see how he was doing.

----

A flutter of green robes melded into the dark. Candles were lit and the glow of dancing flames luminated the chamber.

"Something is amiss, do you think not, Aurus?" a voice, soft yet clear echoed across the stone walls.

Another voice, deeper older, that held a certain depth of wisdom spoke, "I think... it has always been amiss. Perhaps we were wrong from the start. The miasma wasn't what that caused the demon to reside in Shura." A pause. "The boy- his symptoms are similar, but there is no beast inside him."

"What is it? Even after the binding transfer?"

"It is an ancient binding, Orion and our recent finding. The boy is our first experiment. The chances of Shura sharing similar origins are low. However, I did not say that the binding transfer was unsuccessful. The boy is after all, showing the appropriate signs of the merge."

"What of the mage?"

"He... was interesting, wasn't he? His magic still burns even after he has died. For as long as it burns, it will serve us."

Another pause, much longer than the first followed. "The female mage- she is looking for him. Should we let her be?"

"Let her be. As long as she doesn't interfere, as long as she knows nothing, let her be."

----

The bright daylight that shone through the thin veil was starting to annoy him. His entire back was hurting and his head felt so heavy that he couldn't lift it. Lying on his front, with his face turned to one side was causing his neck to feel sore. Yes... he was complaining... and was very much irritated.

"How are you, Shura?" The King's voice?

He shifted sharply in an attempt to get up and greet his lordship, but the searing pain that struck his body with every movement left him weak and trembling. Stubbornly forcing a groan back into his throat, Shura clenched his teeth and endured until the pain passed.

"Stay where you are. Don't strain yourself." A warm hand rested lightly on his bandaged back, pressing down with a persistent pressure that strangely didn't hurt.

"Apologies, my lordship..." Shura's voice trembled from his previous exertion. Shame washed over him when he recognized it himself.

Something made a dragging noise against the floor. Soon after, the king, garbed in his usual clothes entered his vision. "For what, Shura?" he asked plainly, amber eyes burning with a calmness that gave it its penetrating effect.

Shura found himself speechless. He was quite sure, it wasn't the obvoius answer the king was looking for. Definitely not "because I was unable to give you a proper greeting that is expected of me".

"A man cannot be blamed for his inability to do something. What you cannot do and won't do are two completely different things."

A wry smile bent his lips. "Yes, my lord."

"I have something I would like to discuss...."

Sayuri's eyes fluttered open for a moment, as she woke herself up. "Oh my, I fell asleep," she murmured, sitting up straight and rubbing her eyes with a small yawn, tears forming at the edge of her eyes. "Oh goodness, I feel sore now..." She stretched until she noticed Jegan sitting nearby. Her face quickly blossomed into a beautiful shade of a rose as she quickly pulled her arms down.

"Uh... the trickling of the water fountain got me sleepy so... I just kind of dozed off," she muttered, embarrassed. She got up slowly, as to not cause her being light-headed from the sudden movement and then dusted herself. She fixed herself up quickly, glancing into the reflection of the fountain's water.

When she finished, she looked up at Jegan and asked with a somewhat serious expression, "Um... may I ask when Shura is coming back from whatever place he went to? I want to apologize about my behavior the first moment we met so I want to meet up with him and apologize..." She paused as she seemed thoughtful, adding, "And when is it possible for me to meet the other two Rune Knights that are... um... assigned to me?"

Upon hearing his reply, she just nodded as she turned and slowly began to start walking. (it'll be a different response if she is allowed or not allowed to see Shura. I dunno yet so I kind of left it vague.) For a moment, her eyes were in deep thought as she quickly ran over the information she read yesterday. The information was so much and so terrible, she couldn't absorb it clearly but after resting, her mind was clear and was now able to think much better than before. Glancing around, making sure no one was around, she went towards a dark corner of the hall and began to finger the air.

As her fingers traced the air, it left a small luminous blue light, following her fingers as she lettered the air. The words were not written in the language of those of the Tenarin Kingdom, but of the Rania's Ancient Mage Language. She continued to write, her eyes completely focused and clear, unlike yesterday where she had gone hysterical and hurt from the discovery of the Griffin being put together with Demons.

The expression on her face showed that she was deep in thought, writing out something when she felt it was important. None of it made sense and there seemed to be information that was still missing. I'm missing information? But, didn't I read it all yesterday? she thought, her hand coming up to her face as she continued to be deeply pondering over the information.

She sighed and used her one hand and wiped the writing clear, leaving nothing left in the air. "There's... something amiss here..." She turned to Jegan and smiled weakly.

"Is it possible that there is more information on the Griffin? Something doesn't feel right and the things I've read yesterday doesn't add up," she said, looking apologetic. "Oh, what I was just doing, in case you're wondering, was me writing out my thoughts... It's not bad or anything, kind of like a notepad when you don't have one easily at hand."

He stood up when she woke and bowed for their first greeting of the day. "My lady."

"That's alright," he said with a smile and straightened himself. "But if you wish to take a walk while I am not with you, please ask a maid to go with you. The Royal grounds isn't completely safe."

"Um... may I ask when Shura is coming back from whatever place he went to? I want to apologize about my behavior the first moment we met so I want to meet up with him and apologize..." She paused as she seemed thoughtful, adding, "And when is it possible for me to meet the other two Rune Knights that are... um... assigned to me?"

The usual mask of calm he wore gave way to emptiness when she said Shura's name. "Shura returned the day before and is unwell. He is currently resting in his chambers. My other two comrades...." Jegan paused, brow furrowing as he recalled the meeting in the early morn. "They are still in the process of settling a matter. I'm afraid Lady Sayuri would have to wait another day."

Instead of suprise or fear, facination replaced the expression on his face when the mage began to write on air. He couldn't understand the artistic drawings of Rania's literature, but every curve, line and stroke were exquisite. Nothing like the Tenarin's which were much more rigid.

Something amiss?

"Is it possible that there is more information on the Griffin? Something doesn't feel right and the things I've read yesterday doesn't add up," she said, looking apologetic. "Oh, what I was just doing, in case you're wondering, was me writing out my thoughts... It's not bad or anything, kind of like a notepad when you don't have one easily at hand."

The griffin... of course. Was she still unable to accept the evidences that pointed to the monstrous tendancies of the beast? Or did she find something else? "I assure you, Lady Sayuri- all the records, tomes and scrolls you have gone through- they are all based on first hand experience and observation. No lies were written. There are of course, more. However, they lie within the restricted section of the library."

"So I can't see him until he recovers?" she asked, curiosity touching upon her face. What could have happened that made him unwell. "I'm quite renown for herbs and healing medicines and I heard I'm gifted in healing by hand, not magick."

She paused, but sighed, "Of course, if I'm not allowed to go see him, then I won't ask anymore." She smiled then after he commented that there was a restricted section.

"I'm going to go check it out... sometime later," was all she said before she started to walk again. "Sure, I'll go ask a maid to accompany me, but would anyone really recognize me if I wore a disguise?"

"It would be best if he is... left alone for now, to rest. Our healers have taken care of it. Shura will recover soon enough," he assured her. In truth, however, the healers were only allowed to clean his wounds and dress them. Any other medicaton or aid to help the recovery of his wounds were not allowed.

He followed her dutifully, and instantly appeared at her side when she spoke of the library's restricted section. "I sincerely hope you are not serious about that. Don't forget- we can sense magic- some of us in the castle, besides the order, can sense magic. You may be able to disguise yourself with it, but you cannot hide it," his tone turned hard, hinted with plea and faint anxiety. If she was caught, it would be the end of the mage.

Jegan took a lengthy stride and pivoted on one foot to spin to her front, halting her. "The griffin is just a creature Tenarin has studied up close. What is so important that you are ready to access the restricted section?"

For some reason, she somewhat doubted his words but tried to believe them. "I don't know, from the way that his General treated him, I have a feeling they'd only treat him without any other medical help," Sayuri said, adding quickly, "Of course, I'm only guessing this and I am quick to jump to conclusions sometimes, so forget what I just said."

She paused as she listened to his words about magic detection. "Of course I can't hide it, who said I was?" she said, raising an eye-brow. "And I never even thought about using magic in a place that has already many counter-magic spells and such."

Her breathing hitched in surprise when Jegan came to the front, stopping her from any further walking movement. His question surprised her, as if she had expected him to know the answer.

"Well..." she blushed deeply as she lowered her gaze. "I guess I can say this much; I feel connected to the Griffin, not in a way that would mean a master or whatever, but..." She paused as she thought about something, her eye-brows furrowing slightly then she sighed and her blush disappeared. She looked up at Jegan with a serious expression.

"I had a dream and it wasn't an ordinary dream either," she said, her eyes unfaltering. "It was horrible and it felt as if I was the creature itself." She pulled both of her hands together, holding them together and holding them in front of her chest as if she was praying, but she wasn't. Her eyes became troubled. "I had a dream that I was the Griffin, beautiful golden and black feathers, but I wasn't the Griffin... I was watching them do what they do to the Griffin, but I also felt the same thing it felt, the pain searing on my skin and back..."

She left it hanging, after a moment of silence she added quietly, "I hadn't intended for me to tell you, but I guess I felt that I could trust you with this information... and the thing is... I don't know where the Griffin is and for all I know, he could be here, in some city next door, or even in Rania! But... this has been the first time since I felt such vivid pains and I don't remember what that means... oh, and please don't tell anyone else about this dream, I'm afraid of what might happen if someone else hears of this."

She looked at Jegan again, with an apologetic smile. "I'm sorry for telling you something like this so sober and sad, but I guess that the reason why I wanted to research this Griffin so badly was because... well... I feel that he needs to be rescued and set free... something along those lines, I'm not sure what is my words for it, but mainly, I want to set him free."

She again smiled apologetically.

He frowned, feeling slightly offended and a natural instinct to defend his General stirred embers of anger in him. "Indeed you shouldn't jump to conclusions. General cares for Shura more than anyone else."

When she spoke again, his insides were suddenly frozen when she told him of her dream. Gold and black... tainted with blood.... Talons, sleek with blood, strips of flesh. His hand drifted from his side to his stomach. "How do you know that the griffin in those records was the same in your dreams? And why, do you want to set such a demon free?" his voice was soft, tinged with disbelief. Even after she had seen all the treacherous, ruthless rampage of the beast, she wanted to set it free? What logic was that?

"How can you... even think of setting the demon free?" He stared at her, uncomprehending, stunned. The countless lives lost... the destruction. If anything, she should want to keep the beast chained. Much more tightly chained and improsoned forever.

Approaching footsteps broke though the wall of shock in his mind and Jegan quickly turned to see who was coming.

"Jegan!" A woman, perhaps in her early twenties, with wavy, waist length hair of golden brown and lively, bright green eyes waved at him, smiling radiantly. Unlike the women in the Royal grounds, she was dressed in the grandeur of a knight- light armour and silver greaves that fit around her shins to her calf. A sword, leaner than the one Jegan had hung at her hip. She bowed to him with her left foot back, right arm folded at her waist.

He blinked and stared for a brief moment before a faint blush came to his cheeks. "Resee." Jegan returned her bow hastily, feeling slightly disorientated.

"Why are you here?" she asked cheerily, but when her eyes fell on the mage and curiousity was plain on her sweet face when she sensed soemthing. "Magic?"

Another woman with near similar features to Resee appeared at the steps of the courtyard, just behind her. Instead of luxurious waves, her hair was straight and her features had a calming quality. "Captain," she greeted exchanged bowes with Jegan, before taking her place next to her sister and bowing to the mage as well. Her movements were far more fluid, elegant. "You must be the Mage of Rania. My name is Keira, and my sister- Resee, knights of the Order at your service."

Realization dawned on her and Resee quickly bowed to the mage. "Forgive me, my lady."

"This is the inner courtyard... why are you here?" Keira asked, a small frown between her brows.

"I assume lady Sayuri was lost," Jegan replied with a faint, thin smile. "My fault- she was looking for me. And what of you?"

"We were with First Captain...." Resee's jovial expression was quickly replaced with one of worry. She was of course, referring to none other than Shura. "The order sent us to tell him... but the King- his lordship dismissed us and said he would tell the Captain himself...."

"I see...." Jegan looked at the sisters helplessly and swalled a lump in his throat.

A pause stretched between them, heavy with unspoken sorrow.

Then Keira decided to break the silence. "Come, let us speak for a while, Captain."

Jegan nodded and cast one brief glance at Resee and the mage, before following Keira up the steps to stop at a pillar a distance away.

Sayuri didn't answer for a moment. Yes, indeed, the Griffin was a vicious creature and shouldn't be set free so carelessly. "I'm not going to set him free, somewhat," she stumbled over the words she should find to say what she was feeling. "Er... Actually, I don't know if I can find the words to describe what I wish to do with the Griffin, part of me wants to meet the creature, despite it being what it is, while the other half feels the need to do something... I just don't know what exactly."

She frowned as his response to what she said and said with a soft voice, "I'm sorry if my words have caused you... I guess, fright and maybe fear... after all, you do keep acting as if I should just leave the subject alone and that I shouldn't even bother with this kind of thing." Hesitantly, she reached out her hand and touched his arm softly, as if to assure him she was sincere.

She pulled her hand away immediately when she first heard the first sign of footsteps, surprised to see females dressed in knightly clothing, matching almost similarly to Jegan and Shura when she first met them. The woman was beautiful and she immediately felt amazed because of her radiant smile. The next woman that appeared was far more elegant and she blushed when she introduced herself and Resee, bowing and again, like Jegan, calling her "my lady."

"N-no need to bow," she said quickly, before she added, "Um... pleasure to meet you and excuse me for my first response." She suddenly felt oddly shy at the sight of the women, both of whom actually look their age unlike herself. She curtsied slightly in reply to their bows.

Sayuri watched the small exchange between Resee and Jegan, noticing his smile at their comment of their First Captain, whom Sayuri assumed to be Shura, and felt some kind of sad emotion come from Jegan. They all seemed to hold Shura in such respect, she wondered if she'll meet the side of Shura where she can respect him as well, although, she has some kind of it already, remembering the battle on their first meeting.

She frowned slightly, remembering how badly she behaved. I must apologize to him the moment I see him, she thought as she continued to watch Jegan and the other two females until Keira broke the silence with request for Jegan.

She watched him turn and glance at her and Resee before following Keira up the stairs.

When they were gone and out of sight, Sayuri turned to the other female and asked, "Um... I'm going to assume that you are one of the four Rune knights that are assigned to me to help me in my travels?" She felt unsure of herself, wondering how she could talk to a female Rune Knight. All the time she's been with Jegan, he had made her feel comfortable after getting used to his presence, but now she had to come meet another female, one of more or less her age.

Her lips curved into a smile, genuine and mirthful. "No bows? We all greet each other like that, especially during the first meeting of the day. You have a unique name, lady Sayuri." Although the mage had forgotten to mention her name, Resee had caught it in Jegan's explanation. There was a layer of magic she could sense on the mage and she wondered why she was using it. Was it to protect herself?

"Um... I'm going to assume that you are one of the four Rune knights that are assigned to me to help me in my travels?"

"Yes. My sister and I, Jegan... and First Captain..." she faltered, uncertain when she thought of the order's decision for Shura, but she continued with renewed confidence, "we will be accompanying you on your search."

"Would you like to go somewhere else?" she asked, her gaze drifting to where her sister and Jegan stood. "No outsider is allowed in the inner courtyard."

Not far, Jegan stood before Keira, apprehensive and he wasn't exactly sure he wanted to hear what she was about to tell him. Nevertheless, he waited, meeting the firm gaze of his fellow knight. Shura had endured many years, there was no reason why anything should fail him now. "Keira?"

"As you know, a man was killed. He has a family, " she began, allowing the information to sink in, waiting to see if Jegan could make the connections himself. "The order... can't- it's not right to lie."

A long exhale left his lips. There was just something, like a cloud of smog in his chest that he couldn't expel. "The decision of the order?" he asked, exhausted.

"Some think it best... to end his life. Some said, perhaps he could be sent away... and some, suggested to remove him from the Rune Knights. Others wish for him to stay." Her voice, her face was devoid of any emotion- too cold, nothing like her at all. "As for the man's family... the order has decided to tell them that he was killed in a cross-fire."

His eyes narrowed a fraction as he studied her face. "It's still a lie. What... are you not telling me, Keira?"

She met his gaze without fear and spoke with a steady voice, "I have chosen for the order to end his life."

"Oh my, I've forgotten to introduce myself, how rude of me!" she said as she blushed with embarrassment. "Sorry about that... I've forgotten my manners..."

She paused a moment to listen to her reply and found herself noting that Resee had faltered in her speech about Shura... Was something wrong with him? She almost let herself frown but kept it hidden underneath her smile. She then realized that from just the words of him being unwell, when his name was mentioned, it almost seemed as if he was in a dangerous situation, although, she wasn't sure of what. She wondered what was going on that was causing such uncertainty amongst the... Rune Knights.

"Oh? I didn't know they had them here too..." she said softly. "If I'm not allowed here, then I must be off away from this place, right?" She smiled gently until...

Her ears twitched slightly, not so much that it was noticeable. She was listening on the conversation with Jegan and Keira, on accident, only because she had forgotten to pull away the magic that allows her to hear things from a distance.

She started coughing from surprise when Keira said that she was the one sent to end his life. Who? Who killed that man? Who was it that she was going to end his life?

She kept coughing for a few more minutes, her coughing sounding severe before she finally calmed down. That had completely caught her off-guard and she hadn't been expecting to hear such a thing. Even though her coughing seemed to have ended, she started swaying, her appearance beginning to falter until she pulled the magic away from her appearance, revealing her signature maroon hair and ruby eyes.

She was having that sensation again... that one where it burned that came from her tattoo. She collapsed to the floor, her legs had given out, partially in shock and partially because they used their strength to try and stop the burning on her back.

This was strange, she's never had these attacks so closely together, especially in one week, even more, in a month. "Why...?" she coughed, her hands reaching around herself to start taking hold of her back, where her tattoo burned fiercely. "Why am I having these attacks?" Her words were meshed and blended in with her coughs, trying to stop the rapidly painful sounding coughs.

The glow started to appear, the intense burn hot and painful, more so than that time in the morning a few mornings ago. She groaned, trying to calm herself as her coughing continued, blue sparks of magic flickering all over her back.
