"Are they supposed to do that and is that guy that they're ushering off supposed to be acting like that?...That didn't look right...." Pressing close to the rails, he tried to get a closer look, but only managed to catch a glimpse before the group of green robed people vanished behind a set of doors. Those who remained began gathering scattered scrolls and books, returning them swiftly back to the respective shelves. What... odd behaviour for the King's researchers.... Are they acting on their own accord? Or under the lordship's orders? He took careful note of where the scrolls and books were placed, planning to look into them later. "No, they are not supposed to be... dragging drunks out of the library.... Drunks can't enter the library. Perhaps... the boy isn't drunk," he said listlessly. "Those are the King's researchers. What they do- no one without the direct orders of the King is allowed to intervene." Well, he was curious, so he would investigate later. Shoving the thoughts away, Jegan turned to the mage. "So, shall we get you some books? What do you like to read, my lady?" Edited by Seiss, Mar 22 2009, 11:53 PM.

"The King's researchers? For what?" she said with a frown. But seeing Jegan push it aside, she felt she had no choice either, after all, this was not her business in the first place. She wondered if he was still curious anyway, she could still the lingering thoughts on it flicker across his face. "Anything you find, could you tell me? I'm a bit curious," she said, flickering her glance over to Jegan before going towards the books. Embarrassed, she looked to Jegan and said softly, "It's not that I'm not liking the formality, but could you just stop calling me "my lady" or anything of the like? I'm not used to people being so formal with me all the time." She turned to the book, her fingers brushing their spines, a fond look appearing on her face. Books will forever be books, no matter how they change, they will always be the same. They were the ones that kept her sane during all of those times back at the castle in Rania. Her fingers continued to brush along their spines until she came across a book that had the title "Mythological Creatures". Curious, she pulled it out and sat down where she was and began to read. Her eyes zoomed across the pages, absorbing everything like a sponge. Her face became serious as she continued to read, flipping the pages every so often as she finished a page. She continued to read until she came to a page of a griffin. She paused as she looked at the page... and stroked the picture. "Beautiful," was all she murmured. |

"The King's researchers? For what?" "Many things," he replied with a smile. "Architecture, technology... runic magic.... This building itself was designed by the early group of researchers. It's said that there are runes engraved on the walls of the library, behind the shelves. If you can manage to trace the right runes, the library itself will find the tomes and scrolls that you are looking for and bring them to you." Jegan was obsessed with the grand library when he was much younger. He remembered, he used to gather every story, myth and legend that was related to the impressive building itself. "Of course, it may just be a rumour." "Anything you find, could you tell me? I'm a bit curious," she said, flickering her glance over to Jegan before going towards the books. Embarrassed, she looked to Jegan and said softly, "It's not that I'm not liking the formality, but could you just stop calling me "my lady" or anything of the like? I'm not used to people being so formal with me all the time." His expression flickered from amusement to slight confusion and helplessness. Stop using formalities to greet her? It left him speechless for a while, as if there was a fuse in his mind. In Tenarin, calling someone by his or her name, especially someone of no relation was considered rude. However, it was also a sign of close friendship or... intimacy.... He didn't know what to say and stood rooted to the spot while she browsed through the books. However, when she flipped the pages of the thick tome in her lap and landed on a page of griffins, a sense of cold panic brought him to his senses. The illustration- a majestic griffin in feathers of bronze and gold, wasn't exactly a good resemblence to.... Jegan shook his head, and forced a smile. "Beautiful? That creature is a ferocious beast. I thought you would've preferred the phoenix, unicorn, or any creatures that fall under the category of Angelus," he said lightly. Then in a softer, slightly strained voice, he continued, "I apologize... Lady Sayuri. I'm not quite sure... how else to address you." Edited by Seiss, Mar 23 2009, 12:51 AM.

She smiled when he spoke of the runes of the library. "I'm glad that you are able to talk about something with such a bright radiance," she said with a smile, her eyes glittering with amusement. "It's like how I am when I talk about magick, but of course, everyone is at their brightest when they talk about the things they love." After she had sat down to read the book, she didn't notice the expression that played across Jegan's face, but felt it in the air. She did not want to ask, afraid what she might see. Her fingers stroked the picture, loving the color of the feathers. "Griffins are proud creatures, but are very protective of the animals they care about," she murmured, her eyes entranced by the picture. "They are able to be what they are without the judgments of others and they continue to be what they want to be, without the interference of others... well, that's that I think of when I see a Griffin... I've met one only once in my lifetime back at the castle in Rania... and he was gorgeous and beautiful, standing so proudly." When Jegan mentioned about the other mystical creatures, she looked up. "Yes, unicorns are pretty, but they don't give me anything that I can really admire, and as for phoenixes, they are beautiful creatures, being able to be reborn after erupting in flames. But, I feel that I can't be what they represent, after all, I'm nothing but a highly regard Mage in Rania..." She paused again to listen to Jegan speak of her name, though his voice was strained. She looked back down at the illustration, stroking it again. She sighed softly, and said, "Well, I guess 'Lady Sayuri' is fine, but I don't want to be called something along the lines of things more formal than that..." a pause before she added, "just as long as you don't bow to me and say 'my lady' to me all of the time... Of course, I understand when the situation calls for it, but I guess when we're amongst ourselves, is it too much to ask for you to only call me just 'Lady Sayuri' if that's the best you can say?" She smiled sheepishly, a slight blush touching across her face, "Well... I guess, since we'll be spending a lot of time together from now on." She looked up with that same blush across her face, "I'm not used to saying this, but it's my custom to say this to a future traveling companion..." she stood up and bowed slightly as she said, "Please take good care of me." "I'm glad that you are able to talk about something with such a bright radiance," she said with a smile, her eyes glittering with amusement. "It's like how I am when I talk about magick, but of course, everyone is at their brightest when they talk about the things they love." Her unexpected words caused him to blink and stare for a brief suspended moment. Here, was someone... who recognized his passion and spoke of it so openly.... He had never met anyone with such an unexpected trait. Or perhaps the two contries' different cultures was the reason behind it- her upbringing, perhaps. Well, either way, he was unused to it all and had no slightest idea what would be the appropriate reaction. So, he chose silence and watched her marvel at the illustration of the griffin. "Griffins are proud creatures, but are very protective of the animals they care about," she murmured, her eyes entranced by the picture. "They are able to be what they are without the judgments of others and they continue to be what they want to be, without the interference of others... well, that's that I think of when I see a Griffin... But, I feel that I can't be what they represent, after all, I'm nothing but a highly regard Mage in Rania..." The way her fingers traced the page... brought something of the emotion of fear to his chest. The might and ferocity of such a beast... would never pause to kill. Even if it was someone like her. Does she understand that? Or is she admiring the beast, because of its beauty? Because she thought it was a noble creature? "A highly regarded Mage is not a small matter, lady Sayuri," he paused. "The griffin doesn't resemble you at all. Desireable they may be, but beasts like that are best left alone. Are creatures of myth common in Rania?" He was taken aback once again when she asked him to... minimize formality. Nevertheless, he nodded, attempting to conform to her expectations as much as possible without breaching his own. After all, her request wasn't too difficult. It simply needed a little habit adjustment. "Well... I guess, since we'll be spending a lot of time together from now on." She looked up with that same blush across her face, "I'm not used to saying this, but it's my custom to say this to a future traveling companion..." she stood up and bowed slightly as she said, "Please take good care of me." A faint dust of pink spread across his face and he had to look away for a brief moment, just enough for the blush to diminish before looking at her again. That was... a little too straight-forward.... However, when she rose to her feet and bowed, Jegan reached forward hastily and pulled her upright by her elbow. "No, it won't do to have you bow to me. I am your appointed guard and you are my charge. It's not right for you..." he stopped himself, frowning. Who would have thought it would be so difficult to find the right words and explain? Gradually aware that he still had her arm in his hand- so thin that it could almost fit perfectly in his hand- Jegan released her quickly and hid his face with a low bow. "My deepest apologies, my- lady Sayuri. We will take good care of you. Of course." Then he straightened himself and smiled, still feeling a little awkward. Edited by Seiss, Mar 23 2009, 02:43 AM.

"Oh, I didn't mean that the Griffin resembled me, no way," she said quickly, shaking her head. "I admire them greatly for them being the way they are. I'm not saying that we should go out and find out, I'm just saying that these kinds of creatures are as you said, left alone, however, us mages have more of a connection with animals and creatures than most people usually do." She paused, as if contemplating if she should tell him this next piece of information but decided not to. It was best not to tell him of her dream that she had that she was now sure was a griffin, as sad as that may be. "Yes, mythological creatures are quite common in Rania and a lot of them live at the Royal Palace." She looked thoughtful for a moment before adding, "And we have a Griffin there... I'm afraid I can't say much more than that." Her face flickered something of sad and happiness all in one before the emotion disappeared with a smile. When he lifted her up from her bow by her elbow, holding it in his large hands. "But it is of my custom to bow to those who would be in care of me," she said, conflict flickering across her face. For a moment, he held her arm, she wondered what he was thinking before he suddenly grew aware of how long he was holding her arm. She almost laughed at the sudden flustered reaction had. She smiled at his awkwardness and said, "Again, it's my custom to say that, as we believe it might bless us with a good relationship, as we mages hope to always gain from our traveling companions." She still held the book, her one finger bookmarking the one place where the griffin was in the book. "I'll probably do and say it again when all of the appointed Rune Knights meet me or I meet them, whichever way it is." She looked down as she sat back down, careful not to wrinkle the dress too much as she opened the book again on her lap. She again stroked the illustration. "I wonder, do you have anymore texts or books on griffins? My library had large tome of it, and I've already read through it several times, but I was wondering if you may have one here? Perhaps and possibly different from the one I have back at the Castle." She looked at her sides and pulled out several other books, setting at her side, as if ready to be perused through. They were not thin nor were they very easy to read. Edited by DarkAngel013, Mar 23 2009, 02:59 AM.

Connection with creatures? Beasts of myth living in the palace grounds? Interesting.... Though he couldn't imagine the possible chaos that might erupt if natural enemies met each other. If there was a Griffin there... were the Mages able to control them? Control creatures of myth? Of magic? If there is a way.... But I am not allowed to speak... or show... or reveal any of this in anyway. And I can't... I can't do it even if I want to. Jegan struggled against the curse that protected the secrets of their order. If there was a way... another way, one that didn't require the torture Shura had to go through every time he let the beast out.... I may not be able to tell her in anyway... but if she could find out herself, that may be enough. However, another tiny voice reasoned against him- what if the mage wouldn't help? What if she was really able to control the beast and use it for Tenarin's fall? He sighed quietly at his own dilemma. To her next string of words, he merely smiled and nodded, not putting much of his heart into the matter. Well, the others should understand. "I wonder, do you have anymore texts or books on griffins? My library had large tome of it, and I've already read through it several times, but I was wondering if you may have one here? Perhaps and possibly different from the one I have back at the Castle." A faint trace of amusement lingered in his expression. Jegan was almost certain that Tenarin had more books about griffins than Rania. After all... it had been two decades or possibly even more, that the researchers tried to find a way to subdue the thing inside Shura. Countless records have been complied upon his behaviour as the beast, the demon, the griffin.... Most of the important findings were locked away within the restricted grounds. He didn't think those records held any more significance than those that were shelved within public reach. Hold on.... A frown creased his brows as he turned and looked down from the railings of the balcony, at a particular bookcase on the first ground where the researchers once congregated. He was certain that most of the documents they had been flipping through was under that section... the particular section that held the records.... The boy.... Another one? Uncertainty and wariness settled over his chest. He pointed hesitantly down. "The Larua section on the first floor... the demon section." Edited by Seiss, Mar 23 2009, 03:50 AM.

"Oh, I do believe I should tell you this before I forget, us Mages have rules about our connection with animals or creatures," she suddenly said, speaking up. "We aren't allowed to subdue them to our control, because if we did, we would lose our ability to speak with them and that would be abusing our powers. We can calm them down and anything like that, but we cannot completely make them to obey us. And besides, only a few of the Mages have the kind of power that I have... to be able to understand animals..." She watched for a moment as a flicker of emotions touched upon his face, as if many different thoughts were all conflicting at once inside his mind. A self-conflict of sorts? she thought before realizing that he looked over the balcony. She stood back up and peered over the balcony. However, she looked up at him when he spoke with uncertainty and her eyes grew wide. "D-Demons...?" she echoed, shocked and hurt and anger all flickered at once on her face. How dare they? How dare they put Griffins in a Demon section! Griffins were definitely not one! "Your... kingdom considers them... demons?" she repeated, her voice thin and strained. All creatures were well respected but to group them with demons were unforgivable and degrading and disrespectful. "Why?" she whispered, her eyes staring down at the book shelves, disbelief stroking her face. Then anger flickered across her face before it disappeared into a sad one. "Why..." she whispered, her voice barely audible. Even back at her castle, even if an animal had its turn and fair share of horrible deeds, they were still animals and they were still something that a person could not replace if they were to disappear. Animals and all creatures alike were treasured in Rania... A determined expression appeared on her face and she turned to face Jegan, "Am I allowed to go there...?" a pause before adding, "Never mind, I'll just go check it out myself." She jumped over the railing and landed on the ground below, on the first floor. There was absolutely no way that the proud griffins were bunched in with a bunch pathetic low-life demons. Much to her surprise and shock, there was it was, a whole section of the shelf dedicated to Griffins. She collapsed, too stunned to really say anything. Why was her beloved mythological creature grouped in with demons? She closed her eyes and took a deep breath before beginning to read through the research papers... on... a Griffin? Sayuri blinked. What on earth... She narrowed her eyes. She couldn't believe what she was reading. What on earth is this?! Punishment for the Griffin... meals that the Griffin should be fed as to be controllable... ways to tame the Griffin... ways to subdue the Griffin... ways to punish the 'Demonic'... DEMONIC?! she thought as she read through the papers, her eyes skimming over the papers with narrowed and angry eyes. She absorbed in everything, nonetheless. She longed to burn every book she finished reading, finding more and more cruel information on the "demonic" griffin that they were keeping track of. But this was not her place and she could NOT cause trouble, especially when her King had entrusted her to make a fostering relationship with the kingdom of Tenarin. She felt her eyes sting, as with every page she read on the results or of the punishments, her mind would flash back to that dream she had last night, every time it did, it felt rawer and rawer to the point she was gasping for air. She had finished about ten of the books already and she held the shelves for support as she tried to catch up on her breathing. Such cruelty... what did the Griffin... Her thoughts paused as her eyes came across a page where it described something about a Griffin's rampage and more. Quickly, she picked it up and her eyes scanned the list. So many... things... she thought with a sad expression. Are you the Griffin I saw in my dream...? Are you acting this way because you are not be able to be free? Are you acting this way to find someone? Or are you just acting out your rage? She sighed and then took a deep breath and then continued reading, discovering more and more about the Griffin but none of which had answered her questions. The records became more of a journal than a recording of what the Griffin was acting like or why he was acting the way he was. Then she stumbled across the ways that the Griffin prefers to kill. Her eyes widened as she read the things that the Griffin seemed to like to kill mainly for their heart... Heart... is there a significance behind that? she thought, her eyes continuing to skim the pages. She noticed what the Griffin liked to eat and she felt her eyes burn again. She let her legs go and then collapsed to the floor, her legs having gone rigid from standing up for so long. For the first time in years, she pulled her hands to cover her face and let a small stream of tears roll down her face, hidden behind her hands and then her wall of maroon hair. She made no sound... After a long silence, she looked up, refreshed and stood back up. She turned slowly to look at Jegan, her eyes and face clear from what anything could look like she was crying. Sayuri noticed then, that she was not hungry and that an entire day had gone by. "Jegan, if you may, can you guide me back to my room? I think I'm going to turn in for the night." Her voice was soft, hurt, and slightly hoarse from going an entire day without water as well as rest from reading the shocking information. Edited by DarkAngel013, Mar 23 2009, 04:59 AM.

She couldn't subdue them? Only calm... but here was no way, no possible way that the griffin could be calmed. Once it's released... it's near impossible to stop.... He hesitated, hands gripping the railing, feeling the cold seep into the warmth of his palms. So... he led her to the answers in vain? No... if the researchers tried everything... they had definitely not tried this- seeking the help of a mage. She should have a chance.... His gaze slid to the marble floor when he caught the disbelief, hurt and accusation in her tone. The clear surface reflected his own face back to him and he could only watch his own blank gaze as he listened. He didn't know the true nature of a griffin and he couldn't say he knew the creature itself. All he had seen before was Shura. Just... Shura's. She must have loved the creature... for the pain to enter her voice. When he heard the flutter of fabric reached his ears, he looked up to find its source reflexively, but he was too late. The mage had already jumped off. His heart lurched and his eyes widened in fear for her safety. Jegan was on the verge of jumping off himself in the hopes of catching her when she landed lightly and elegantly on the first floor far below. Thank God for magic. He rushed down the stairs and dashed through the first floor entrance, only to find her safe, flipping through the records feverishly. Whatever she was reading seemed to have torn her.... Unwilling to see anymore painful emotions through her eyes, he turned and stood behind the shelves. Jegan didn't think there was a right time to ask her to stop, to take a break or get some food to replenish herself. It didn't look like she'd agree anyway. He wasn't sure how long it had been, but the sun had already set when she came and spoke to him. "Jegan, if you may, can you guide me back to my room? I think I'm going to turn in for the night." Her face may be a blank canvas, but he knew, that whatever he had chosen to let her discover had wounded her deeply. His gaze turned gentle and apologetic. "Of course. I'll lead you back and ask the maids to bring some food and water to your room." |

Tired and exhausted and suddenly depleted, she followed after Jegan until she was at the door of her room. "Thanks, just send me some water is fine," she murmured, opening the door and shutting it gently closed. She changed herself with magick before curling up in bed, closing her eyes as the tears rolled down her face again. Emotionally and mentally, she's become exhausted from the dream that she keeps having, repeated and repeated over again. The griffin was suffering so terribly that it had such a broken pride that it was not wonder that it ravaged and raged whenever it broke free. She fell asleep with tears silently rolling down her face. ~~~ The next morning, she felt the static of her magick electrifying her, glad that she had no dreams of the griffin suffering last night. She woke up tired, and stood up, changing and cleaning herself until she appeared presentable. She opened the door and wondered where Jegan might have gone. I wanted him to show me where I can practice my magick... I didn't do the ritual last night and now it's electrifying me... she thought mildly before she began to wander the halls, her expression blank as she pondered over the thoughts of what she's discovered last night. A griffin, to suffer that kind of... treatment was horrible... it can't even be called treatment; it was torture. She took a deep breath, calming herself as she continued to wander around. Half of her body was itching to either heal something or explode something, neither of which she was going to let happen as she tightened her hands into fists, blue sparks of magick jumping out as they were trying to be controlled from the excess energy. Somewhat frustrated and annoyed at the same time, she walked over to a tree and punched it, finding it that it was ineffective, but the tree shook and flowers instantly bloomed on the tree. "Not enough," she murmured as she walked away. Her appearance was the same yesterday, so again no one spared a second glance at her and she was glad for that, after all, she was dressed as a maid today... odd... She hid in a corner to change herself in a simplistic lady dress before walking around again. She didn't want to be forced to work again. Sayuri wandered around until she came to a small fountain grassy courtyard in the center of the large castle, plant life blossoming around it. She sat down there and gazed into the fountain. She was plain... but... appeared cheerful? Odd. She shook head and sat down on the floor as she fingered the ripples of the fountain water, gazing at the water as the sounds of it soothed her to the point of falling asleep again. |
