( She's not doing anything, but due to the huge amounts of magic everywhere, she keeps getting more and more buildup. Like this place replenishes her magic and her magic reserves. ) Sayuri had woken up at sometime early morning. She fed Eve and fed Lancelot before she proceeded to release the little bits of excess energies that she knew would only spark out unnecessarily. When she finished, she took a breather in the middle and drank some water when she winced at something that was coming closer and closer. I wonder what that is? she thought before continuing to stretch and releasing the excess magic that was still building up. A bit aggravated that even after her morning exercise that she still felt restless, she pulled forth her staff again and repeatedly pushed into the jewel more and more of her magic. When she felt completely herself again, she put the staff away. At that moment was when she felt that someone new was coming. Instinctively, she pulled her staff again out from the portal when a woman appeared at the door with Shura, somewhat blocking her from view. She noticed the slightly confused expression that appeared on the woman's face and the anxiety in Shura's voice. “I can explain,” he said. "Explain what?" Sayuri asked in a soft, but firm voice. She still had not forgiven him for that event about two days ago. She wore a tunic, possibly a size too big that hid her petite form, with a pair of pants and boots. Her hair tied up into a ponytail revealing a lot of her neck that showed a little bit of design from her tattoo on her back that came to her neck. Around her neck was a silver chain with the pendant of some sort hidden underneath her tunic. Around her wrists and forearm were bandages wrapped around them, the kind usually reserved for fighters. Her fingers flexed around the staff, as the jewel glowed almost in sync with her anger at the interruption. Were it not for her feminine qualities, she would have pulled off looking like a very young teenage boy. "And who is this?" She tilted her head slightly, curious but slightly annoyed on Shura's part. Eve fluttered in the corner of the room, watching with a wary gaze. Sayuri's face was passive, almost blank as she looked between Shura and the woman. Her ruby eyes gleamed in the morning sunlight with a certain fire that crackled with emotions that seemed unreadable. |

The tone of her voice nearly made him shudder. Within the quiet belied cold anger that he knew was directed at him. Shura wasn’t obligated to explain anything, but he had to say something to stop either women from the possibility of them lunging straight for each other’s throats. He wanted to turn to see their faces, but stubbornly remained still. If disaster could be avoided, he would avoid it. Especially when Sayuri was involved. Truly Mirai was astounded. She was still staring intently at the object of her fascination- the red haired and red eyed beauty- shamelessly. She had expected to encounter a sort of device, or a generator of some sort. But a human with peculiar colour pigmentation? No, she hadn’t expected that at all. The rune stone in her fist warmed her palm, its brilliant, sun kissed radiation spread a sort of warmth that was pleasant without the discomfort of heat. By the stone of Asr! She had found a fountain of mana source! There was something off about her though... something that crossed her mind earlier. Her eyes widened. She whirled around on her heel, spun Shura around by his shoulder and glared at him. “You’ve taken up a- a- mistress and you never told me?” she demanded, not angrily, but indignantly, as if he had insulted her. Why else did he have to explain anything at all? “You should have gotten her proper ladies’ clothes to wear! Not your-your own garments!” Her clenched fists shook mildly at her sides. She would have given his chest a loud smack if they didn’t have an audience. Mirai wouldn’t shame him in front of others... well not completely anyway. For a moment, he stood there wearing an odd expression- a mixture of compressed amusement, confusion, surprise and a slippery hold over seriousness. Finally, though, he settled for a barely suppressed grin to both women, folded his arms tight around his torso and coughed out laughter. “I did say I’d explain, didn’t I?” he chortled, fighting not to bend over. Shura hadn’t expected the mage to suddenly change her clothes to that of a man’s. What for anyway? Was she planning to masquerade as a boy? In any case, the shirt was way too large for her. It’d end up slipping off her shoulder, he was sure. “Oh good god, Mirai! You know I’d never pick up a mistress.” Shura cleared his throat and straightened, slowly sobering. “Well. Mirai, this is Lady Sayuri, an ambassador of Rania. My Lady charge, this is Mirai Endorne.” Mirai’s cheeks reddened when she understood. Oh how she had made an embarrassing scene for herself! Stupid jumping too soon into conclusions! “If you are done laughing at me...” she muttered under her breath in a warning tone. She turned around, appearing visibly mortified, but still holding up all the dignity she had. “I apologize, my lady. I was hasty. I didn’t mean to insult. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” Shura was certainly done with humour. The reality of these two women standing and breathing within the same room brought a sense of dread. His supposed fiancé and... Sayuri? Ingredients for disaster. And he was sure he could not avoid this one. “Mirai, you said the researching guild is coming? I can’t have them take Sa-Lady Sayuri. Our errand is best carried out quietly. Any way to cloak her? Against detecting runes?” he asked, preserving a grave disposition despite the slight slip. Now this was curious. Mirai knew Rania and Tenarin hardly saw eye to eye. And here stood Rania’s ambassador? Errand? Curious indeed. She crooked a finger absently and pressed it to her lips, immersed in her own thoughts. After a brief moment of pause, she looked up, glanced once to Shura, then to the ambassador. “It isn’t nearly possible unless I make trapping runes and I don’t’ doubt thy Lady wouldn’t appreciate it. I can however, draw a pentagram that covers a small area that can possibly make her unnoticeable. I will explain on the way. We have to leave now if you want to avoid the guild.” |

Sayuri moved uncomfortably under the stare of the woman, wondering what to do next. Well, Shura certainly knew her, which only gave her the explanation that he really knew who she was and that she was not a threat. However, something about her ruffled her feathers and she wasn't sure why. “You’ve taken up a- a- mistress and you never told me?” she demanded, not angrily, but indignantly, as if he had insulted her. “You should have gotten her proper ladies’ clothes to wear! Not your-your own garments!” She glared for a moment at the woman for jumping to such a conclusion. Yes, it is true that she is wearing boy's garments, but it had been for her own benefit, not for their own. After all, she had only been doing morning exercises and didn't think the need of wearing lovely female dresses would suffice in that sort of situation. But the way that the woman spoke felt... as if... Sayuri's eyes momentarily realized that she held the same sort of aura that Shura had and that there seemed to be some sort of deeper connection between the two. She felt an odd chill ripple throughout her, feeling suddenly that she wanted to smack something. So she must be Shura's fiancé... she noted mildly. It looked and sounded as if this woman knew Shura and... it angered her and made her sad, somehow. Her eyes flared like the roar of a fire, but it remained subdued as she continued to listen to the conversation between the two, deciding that she ought to not intervene... but Shura laughing like that doesn't help matters either. “I did say I’d explain, didn’t I?” he chortled, fighting not to bend over. “If you are done laughing at me...” she muttered under her breath in a warning tone. She turned around, appearing visibly mortified, but still holding up all the dignity she had. “I apologize, my lady. I was hasty. I didn’t mean to insult. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” "I doubt that," she muttered when Shura said something about him not taking up a mistress. She knew perfectly well that with his sharp hearing, he would have heard what she had said. She watched as realization appeared on Mirai's face, finally hearing her name. After she apologized, Sayuri nodded slowly as she murmured, "I hope that doesn't happen again because..." She didn't say anymore. The very idea! Of being Shura's mistress was... was... She couldn't find a word for it. Ah, yes, degrading. She only wanted to do that sort of thing with the man she's going to marry... "Yes, the pleasure is all mine." She bowed slightly as she continued, "I will be in your care." Before straightening herself up and placed her staff at her side. “Mirai, you said the researching guild is coming? I can’t have them take Sa-Lady Sayuri. Our errand is best carried out quietly. Any way to cloak her? Against detecting runes?” he asked. Why? Who was the researching guild? Were they dangerous? Why did Shura suddenly stop in the middle of her name to correct himself to "Lady"? He hasn't called her that since.... since... well, since probably the beginning of their relationship. Cloak? Sayuri's eyes flickered to the glowing stone in Mirai's hand. Or... at least she thought it was stone. She wanted to ask because she felt it pick up on her earlier before... “It isn’t nearly possible unless I make trapping runes and I don’t doubt thy Lady wouldn’t appreciate it. I can however, draw a pentagram that covers a small area that can possibly make her unnoticeable. I will explain on the way. We have to leave now if you want to avoid the guild.” Sayuri finally showed a bit of expression on her delicate face as she frowned. No, she didn't like the idea of being trapped, especially with more magic. This place felt like it was overflowing with magical energies that Sayuri couldn't help but suck up... it felt like her body kept getting replenished and that felt exhilarating for she hadn't felt like this since her once a month moon rituals. "If we're leaving, then I think I should change and gather up my belongings," she stated blankly as she turned and with a wave of her staff, her clothes changed back into her traveling garments and the other clothes folded itself and was placed into her bag. The bag containing Lancelot hovered over to her as she put on her bag. She placed Lancelot into his pouch and lifted up her arm as Eve jumped over and onto her shoulder. Pulling up the hood of her cloak, she looked to the both of them as she put her staff back into the portal. "Who are the researching guild? Are they bad people?" Now, she looked like one of those regular travelers. "And, what is that stone in your hand, Miss Mirai?" The way she asked everything sounded like she was a child curious about her surroundings. Her poker-faced expression was stuck in its place, almost unmoving as she began to go with them. |

OOC [sorry I nodded a bit at the end. I wanted it to go a tad faster. Just ignore it if you don't like it and I will edit accordingly to her actions.] ”I doubt that.” His brows rose slightly as he settled his gaze on her. Then a slow mocking smile twitched the edge of his lips. The slight arrogant tilt of his head questioned her- how much did she truly know about him to pass such a judgement? ”I hope that doesn’t happen again because....” It was Mirai’s turn to raise a brow- she wanted to, but resisted and fought for what she hoped to be an understanding expression on her face. The ambassador was most definitely born and taught amongst royalty, most probably bred for it too. She sensed thick pride and something aloof. She herself was no less a noble, though only in name now since her family was no longer under direct service to the king. The habit ingrained into her to raise herself above another nearly made her tilt her chin condescendingly. Mirai did not, of course. She returned the ambassador’s bow equally low. In Tenarin, bowing more than forty five degrees from the waist to another was considered to be paying high respect and a degree of submission. Mirai was not surprised by the girl’s obvious ignorance of Tenarin culture. She had expected it and had a better heart than to take advantage of her. “The pleasure is mine as well, Lady Sayuri.” The name was foreign on her tongue and she had to take a second to right the pronunciation. “You are welcome under my roof.” While Sayuri waved her magic to pack, Shura stood with a sour, disapproving expression while Mirai watched, eyes sparkling with unconcealed wonder. To her, it was simply amazing. She had to rely on runes to wield magic and though she could, her abilities were strictly limited. Wielding it so freely was her dream. Her posture never changed however much she wanted to lean forward on her toes eagerly. Mirai stood upright with every inch of pride and dignity piked through her spine. “They are not bad people,” Mirai replied with a wry smile. “I happen to be one of the leading researchers, My Lady. I am sure, Captain of the Royal Guards here can simply produce proof of the King’s commands and the guild will keep their hands to themselves.” She glanced in Shura’s direction knowingly. “But, news of your whereabouts would fly free on the breeze. And I suspect your ladyship has encountered hindrances on your journey, which Shura wishes to avoid.” Rolling his eyes, Shura snorted and muttered under his breath. Something about the ability to talk with his own mouth. Mirai pressed her lips together to prevent a grin emerging. She had his intentions right and he was annoyed with what he called her ‘know-it-all’ wits. Once he was sure Sayuri was done packing, he hurried the women out the door, grabbed his belongings and herded them down the stairs towards the stables. Damin didn’t ask questions when he saw Mirai. Instead, a wide grin split his face as he sent a stable hand to help. He bid them farewell graciously and told them to drop by again soon. Through all of it, Shura nodded and thanked him. Mirai appeared more abashed. She knew why Damin was so glad to see them present. It was unfortunate that his well wishes for the engaged couple would never come true. “A rune stone,” Mirai murmured once they were walking down the stall lined street, giving way to rumbling carts and workmen hauling casks and crates of goods on their shoulders. “This one works like a small funnelling tube. Mana is drawn into it and filters back out again.” Shura sucked in an breath in aggravation and almost forcefully yanked Sayuri’s hood over her head, but he managed to be casual about it- and gentle. “Keep your head down!” he hissed at the ambassador urgently. Mirai eyed him, her expression dry. “How gracious of you, Captain,” she voiced a touch sarcastically. A scowl was on his face. With one fist holding the reins of two horses, he tucked his free hand under the other arm and studiously avoided either women’s gazes, choosing to keep a lookout instead. Strange creatures, women- they stick together whenever a man prods one. Most of the time. How often, he wasn’t sure. There was a fond smile on Mirai's lips, which turned welcoming when she looked to the ambassador. "I hope it has been an enjoyable stay for you," she said, "if it hasn't, I don't doubt it's his fault." Edited by Seiss, Feb 27 2010, 08:10 AM.

Sayuri only ignored the twitch at Shura's corner of his mouth, knowing full well that he was amused by her comment. No, she knew she had no right to pass judgement on the man but she couldn't help it; she was still sour about the resistance to go on with the journey when she has insisted that they do, despite her lack of sleep. She watched Mirai's expression and realized that she perhaps had said something wrong; she only said that because she had hoped that nothing of the sort happened again because she didn't like it when someone jumped to conclusions without any sort of truth or information. She even sensed a sort of nobility of Mirai and noted dully that she must of served under the king of Tenarin. She suddenly felt smaller than she should be, knowing full well that her place as the Mage is actually lower than those of the Nobles in her court. Well, so the Nobles say anyway. The king himself said that they are just right underneath the king, but thanks to the treatment of the other Mages and Nobles alike, she didn't have the time or the luxury to be treated with a sort of noble-like quality for she was busy defending herself. Whatever pride that Mirai may be detecting, it probably wasn't; it was more likely a defense-mechanism that she had developed in retaliation against those of Noble blood. When Mirai bowed equally back, Sayuri remembered something instantaneously. Perhaps she really ought to learn about Tenarin's culture while she was here; that way she doesn't do anything that's wrong and be taken advantage of. And I suspect your ladyship has encountered hindrances on your journey, which Shura wishes to avoid.” Sayuri let a worried expression appear on her face. "It's just that... well..." Shura had made it sound like they were. She looked at the ground in a sense of worry; she didn't want to be captured to be studied just for being who she is: a Mage. There was also the fact that she had been poked and prodded and asked many kinds of questions about her power of magic and the fact that her tattoo is greatly more different than any other mage of their court. She didn't want to go through that again. "Yes... we have... and I would like us not to have those hindrances," she murmured softly as her eyes reflected several kinds of emotions at once. She was frightened, nervous, and worried. She didn't want to be captured nor chased after for her life... Too worried about being studied, she didn't see the scowl on Shura's face but she knew that the two of them shared something... after all, they were engaged. When they left the inn, Damin flashed a smile their way and realized with a squeeze of her heart that it was for Shura and Mirai. At the squeeze, she clutched a bundle of her shirt and squeezed where her heart would be; where the cause of pain was. When they were walking out on the street, Sayuri noticed how busy it was. She had always been cooped up inside of inns that she never had the chance to go out and explore the towns. This was the first time that she was able to see the outside that wasn't festive like they were back with Tryst's and Seryel's village. Being outside in town again made her feel alive again and more human. “This one works like a small funneling tube. Mana is drawn into it and filters back out again.” "Sounds like how I use magic," Sayuri said thoughtfully. Shura sucked in an breath in aggravation and almost forcefully yanked Sayuri’s hood over her head, but he managed to be casual about it- and gentle. “Keep your head down!” She had tilted her head backward slightly when she looked up at the sky and the buildings that were taller than one or two stories. So when he yanked her hood back over her head, she used her magic in surprise, causing a spark of magic to run out of her fingers and into his hand, only to be repelled back onto her fingers, causing her whimper in alarm; to hide it, she exclaimed, "Shura!" However, seeing as the bit of magic was very little, Shura wouldn't have felt the spark so she quickly hid her fingers. She heard the sarcastic tone of Mirai's voice after she observed the pull of the hood. She felt happy that Mirai disapproved it because that meant she didn't hate her and almost felt relieved, but still, that strange feeling lingering in her did not fade. She looked up in time to see Mirai's expression. There was a fond smile on Mirai's lips, which turned welcoming when she looked to the ambassador. "I hope it has been an enjoyable stay for you," she said, "if it hasn't, I don't doubt it's his fault." The fond smile... again made her feel the squeeze of her heart. She knew that Shura had scowled under her glare, or whatever for doing what he did with the hood. She looked at Mirai and decided that she was one of those people to trust, unlike the many men and women she had come to discover that were only too willing to give away her identity. Sayuri smiled weakly, "It's not his fault; it's mine." Her smile seemed strained, knowing full well that the only reason why they ever got injured was because of her, because of the people who wanted to come after her and to take her life. She didn't say anymore and only followed on after them as they headed to where Mirai had said was to be safe. |

How strange and undecided the foreigner was. One moment she was draped in swathes of pride and poise, the next, she lowered herself beneath Shura and her station. At least it was what it looked like to Mirai. Though the girl- she couldn’t help thinking of her as one, she was so young- appeared to try hide her worry and fright, her emotions were clear to her. And she didn’t doubt Shura could read them as well. Nothing amiss, nothing she could tell, at least. Mirai had always known Shura to be impatient and commanding when he had to be, but she had not expected the sharp movement from him. She had thought he would strike the ambassador hard on the head, but his hand slowed so abruptly, as if he decided to mean the blow as a caress instead. She was about to reprimand him for his harsh behaviour when realization halted the words at the tip of her tongue. The ambassador’s hair and eyes- of course! She had been careless. But still, he could have simply reminded the mage. Mirai frowned. When had Shura become so irritable? The ambassador’s reaction to her quip caused her to pause in her steps, but she quickly recovered her pace and walked on. Something was off... she had never met any noble sounding so hopeless and defeated before. Weaknesses were always hidden under masks of ice. There was despair as well, quite plain, as if it had been set within her for a long time. Mirai wondered how she could have missed it. The ambassador was calling herself responsible? For what? In search for answers, Mirai’s gaze shifted to question Shura. His face was angled in another direction, appearing oblivious to her seeking eyes. Avoiding her, was he? But she noted that his eyes were pinched and his golden glare cold. Any expression on his face had been wiped clean. Oh yes, something was brewing underneath all this strangeness and she intended to find out what. If he mistreated the poor girl.... Mirai blinked, bringing a halt to her train of thoughts to question its direction. What was happening between these two? The tension between them was almost tangible. “My Ladyship is forgiving,” Mirai replied graciously, in favour of Sayuri. She said no more after that, until they came upon a cottage of gray stone. A stable hand took the horses without the need for Mirai’s instruction, bidding them welcome. As soon as she led them to the door, a middle aged maid in a plain brown dress greeted them. “Ania, would you ready two guestrooms? My friends will be staying here for a while,” Mirai said to the maid. Streaks of gray in her hair became more visible whenever she bowed. “It will be done, mistress. Shall I prepare tea before that?” “That would be nice.” Mirai nodded with a smile. As soon as Ania retreated into the kitchens, she waved the ambassador and Shura to the hall, where comfortable leathers seats were waiting for them. “I apologize if this is sloppy for a place to stay in,” she said to Sayuri. “But I hope you will be comfortable here. As long as you do not leave these grounds, the guild should not be able to find you.” She tilted her chin in the direction of a wall, where an old, weather beaten banner was hung like a tapestry. Its design was indiscernible, embroidery worn with age. “Behind that is one pillar that holds up the shielding pentagram. A few high standing researchers have a similar shield such as this erected to cover a storage ground for runes. My home is small, so I had it made to cover the entire grounds.” Shura had been silent and a little too sombre. He appeared overly tall in her slightly low roofed home- as usual. Often, his gaze lingered on the mage’s shoulders, in front of him. He was relieved despite his worries and felt at home for once in a long time. While she didn’t spare him a glance, Mirai could feel the nudges of his troubles like her own, stewing beneath his silence. Well, once she had the ambassador settled, Mirai would deal with him. "Sit, please. Ania will come with tea soon." Mirai motioned towards the seats and sank onto one herself. Edited by Seiss, Feb 28 2010, 07:01 AM.

Sayuri had never noticed anything different in Shura' behavior nor did she really know of Shura's real personality. To her, everything seemed like it was and that he only acted toward her this way because of her being so delicately fragile. Well, at least that's what Shura would have called her. She didn't deny that he had changed a bit significantly after he found out that she had gotten sick with some sort of disease. Speaking of which, she had to take some medicine that Tryst had given them before they left. She had forgotten to take it in the morning due to exercise that she needed to do. “My Ladyship is forgiving.” Sayuri supposed she was... but she still hadn't forgiven him for that resistance... so was she really? She noted mutely that he was the only one that she really trusted here in Tenarin. He knows more about her than any other person out there, other than Resee, perhaps for she had been there when Sayuri unlocked her memories... At the remembrance, a cold shudder shook her body. She still hadn't been able to sleep well and even last night, she had difficulties sleeping. She muffled her cries and screams into her pillow, which she used a spell on so that Shura would not come running into her room. She did not want to see him more than she wanted to... When they came to the cottage, Sayuri couldn't help but feel welcome and warmed. It was a very cozy looking, from her perspective and when they entered the property, she cried out a little bit in surprise when she felt like she had walked through something magical. In this, she jumped back into Shura, who stopped her from falling back. She quickly pulled away with a flushed and embarrassed expression, "S-Sorry!" Why was she suddenly so shy around him? And that feeling from earlier bothered her to no end and she suddenly felt like she ought to be very irritated around him, but she was embarrassed about her behavior and withdrew from Shura as she turned to quickly follow on after Mirai. Sayuri noticed that Mirai had been busy giving out directions to the elderly woman so she probably did not see the little exchange. “I apologize if this is sloppy for a place to stay in,” she said to Sayuri. “But I hope you will be comfortable here. As long as you do not leave these grounds, the guild should not be able to find you.” "No, it's perfectly all right; it reminds me of home," she said in her soft voice when her eyes wandered all over the hall and toward where Mirai had gestured. The pentagram that Mirai mentioned suddenly caused Sayuri to stand up straight as she was suddenly aware of the magic behind it. She could feel it throbbing throughout Mirai's property and closed her eyes to note exactly just how far it goes out to protect and hide. She opened her eyes and said, "How long has this tapestry been here? It's so worn... I'm sure it's beautiful when it was first made." She could see almost visibly the pentagram on several of the walls and mumbled something under her breath that went along the lines of, "No wonder it surprised me..." She turned toward Mirai as she asked, "Does that mean I'm allowed to take off my hood here in your home? But would I have to keep wearing a hood when I go out?" She could smell restriction again, and the feeling of confinement. Even here, she had to hide herself from anyone's else eyes. When will she be able to walk the streets without the feeling of someone watching her and waiting to kill her? For a moment, a flicker of sadness crossed her eyes before it smoldered and she obediently walked toward the seats and sat down. Before entering the property, Eve had decided to go around and explore the grounds. For comfort, she took out Lancelot and began to pet him absently while feeding him a piece of a carrot. She took off her hood here to fully see her surroundings, looking curiously around... "What kind of tea?" she asked. She seemed awfully curious about everything here and wondered what sort of leaves they used to make the tea and their foods and everything else. Suddenly, she was curious about their culture and thought that this was a good place as any to learn about Tenarin's culture. When she looked up at Mirai, she saw that she had looked up to Shura's golden eyes. She flushed instantly and looked back down at Lancelot. Oh dear, I avoided his eyes, she thought. Had she been really so accustomed to Shura that she would be able to know where Shura was without trying? Edited by DarkAngel013, Feb 28 2010, 11:15 PM.

"No, it's perfectly all right; it reminds me of home." Ania appeared with a tea tray just in time to buy her a few moments. Reminds her of home? That came unexpected. Others may comment on how exquisite her furniture in the house was, or compliment on how organized the place was, some even go further with their niceties just for the sake of etiquette. But the ambassador’s words were sincere and truthful. Mirai nodded absently just to respond. In her mind, she was hastily reassembling the girl’s picture. Not of royalty, then? Not like any noble she had met before either- unless it was the nobles’ children. At a loss with how to respond and how to place her, Mirai was more than thankful for the change of subject. "How long has this tapestry been here? It's so worn... I'm sure it's beautiful when it was first made." “It’s not exactly a tapestry, My Lady,” Mirai corrected politely, the curve of her lips was pleasant. “A banner.” Her gaze slowly landed on the worn stretch of fabric on the wall. “Perhaps of another age, that belonged to a long forgotten lord. I kept it just to have something cover the inscription on the wall.” One the tray had been set on the table, Ania retreated into another corridor. She came quietly and left just as silent. Shura shifted his eyes to the ambassador when she mumbled something unclear. He could hear it, of course, but he provided no other reaction. This was something new.... He didn’t know Sayuri could detect rune written pentagrams. Could she sense all runes, or was there a limitation? Shura pondered for a moment, and then decided that her senses had to be limited. After all, she couldn’t sense the Royal Guards’. He exhaled quietly when the thought reminded him of the little spark of magic she released earlier. Thanks to his rune, it was flung back at her. No doubt it hurt when she yelped. With luck, Sayuri hopefully didn’t acquire any injuries. Fragile as a fibre thin sheet of glass indeed. Casually, he manoeuvred around the table to lounge on the seat across both women. His eyes were never fixed on one, always alternating, however surreptitiously. He had wanted to pour the tea, but resisted and waited for Mirai to do so instead. She would give him an earful otherwise, about trampling her honour. Hosts should always pour drinks first before any guests touch the pot. Sometimes, Shura thought the etiquette troublesome. “You have freedom to choose as you please, My Lady.” Here was another shocker. The ambassador was asking for Mirai’s permission with regards to her self? Mirai had almost wanted to say that she was responsible for her own well being and that she was not a servant to a high lady. Discipline held her tongue, and a shred of pity. “I would advise, however, that you hide your... more distinctive features.” Mirai sat up and leaned forward to pour the tea into three cups of moss green porcelain. The steaming tea flowed out in a single stream of light gold. It had a slightly spicy scent that sent a spread of warmth through anyone who breathes in the steam. “Made of tea blossoms of Enfram. It’s our common tea. Nothing special, I’m afraid,” Mirai smiled apologetically. Shura grunted and sipped the hot cup without meeting Mirai’s reprimanding stare. Her smile when she turned to Sayuri and little Lancelot, however, was fond. “Adorable little thing,“ she said. “Your pet?” This time, Shura was faintly amused, though the feeling was accompanied with a margin of sobriety. Oh he had caught the mage watching him. For some reason, that brought a sense of satisfaction. Then amusement vanished quickly when he reminded himself what a pit of doom he had dug for himself, as well as the girl. What could he do to make her withdraw her feelings? Shura didn’t have the heart to hurt her to achieve it.... “You’ve been quiet, Shura,” Mirai suddenly spoke to him. He started, then looked over the rim of his cup to both women, considering. “You said you preferred my mouth stitched up,” he quipped, a slow smile spreading on his lips. “I still remember that even though it was a winter ago.” That earned an exasperated sigh from Mirai. She ignored him and turned to the ambassador instead. "Will you tell me about Rania? I've always been curious about what lies beyond Tenarin borders." |

"Then perhaps, if you would like, I could probably restore it back to its proper glory," Sayuri commented. “You have freedom to choose as you please, My Lady. I would advise, however, that you hide your... more distinctive features.” She nodded in agreement and let a ripple of ebony spread throughout her hair and her eyes changed into chocolate brown. It was weak magic but it was enough to conceal her true colors and only the most excelled scholars in studying or researching runes like Mirai probably is, or those who are like of Shura, would know she used magic. Otherwise, she will go undetected amongst most people. It was respectful to ask Mirai those questions because she wasn't sure what she ought to do properly seeing as she's always been cooped inside. “Made of tea blossoms of Enfram. It’s our common tea. Nothing special, I’m afraid,” Mirai smiled apologetically. When Mirai poured the tea, she closed her eyes for a moment to inhale the scent. It was far more different than she had expected; even the tea in several towns past was different, she noted. "It's all right, tea is brewed differently, no matter what part of the country the same tea is brewed," she murmured as she picked up a cup. She blew gently on the cup and took a sip, shivering slightly as the hot liquid went through her system. It warmed her tremendously and she felt much calmer. "Tea always makes me feel better..." “Adorable little thing,“ she said. “Your pet?” At this, Sayuri looked up at Mirai. Surely she knew of Resee? If she did, then what she's going to explain wouldn't be of a surprise. "No, actually, I'm only caring for it in place of Resee since she's worried about caring for an animal like this." Lancelot's nose took a whiff of the air and Sayuri fed him another piece of the carrot. "Jegan gave it to her, and I was there at the time of the gift... she looked so unsure of how to care of him... so I volunteered." She again blew gently at the tea before taking another careful sip. As she looked into the tea, her long, thick eyelashes showed beautifully in contrast to her fair skin. It matched her ebony hair and it only made her now chocolate colored eyes more visible, as if she had blue eyes instead of brown. Even then, it still reflected the fires and emotions inside of her mind. She didn't dare to look up at Shura again, in fear she might do something embarrassing. She could feel her heart pounding, knowing full well that Shura occasionally glanced her way. Sighing gently, she took out a small vial that contained the medicine that Tryst had given her and poured it into the rest of the tea in her cup before she took the gulp. The tea, luckily, hid the bitterness of the medicine and she coughed in surprise at the spiciness of the tea in the sudden gulp. “You’ve been quiet, Shura,” Mirai suddenly spoke to him. “You said you preferred my mouth stitched up,” he quipped, a slow smile spreading on his lips. “I still remember that even though it was a winter ago.” She looked up when Mirai spoke up again, and found herself looking at Shura just as a smile spread across his face. When his eyes came her way, she found herself very self-conscious. She could sense the worry about her well-being when she knew that Shura could smell the medicine from several kilometers away. Even if she had quickly slipped the vial out and quickly poured it into the tea without Mirai's eye, she knew nothing escaped Shura... his eyes were far too sharp to do that. Mirai sighed and this caused Sayuri to look away from Shura with a slight blush on her cheeks when Mirai asked a question that startled her: "Will you tell me about Rania? I've always been curious about what lies beyond Tenarin borders." She blinked, unsure of how to go about the question, the blush suddenly gone. "Sure... I suppose." She set down the cup before petting Lancelot again and looking absently out the window before turning to look back at the table. Her eyes went distant as she recollected her motherland. "Rania is lush in the capital, with so many trees and creatures roaming around, it's amazing; there's birds constantly flying about of all kinds of colors, shapes, and sizes. There's always magic floating and flying about and crime is very low compared to the other countries. My king runs Rania well, given the circumstances... and... the countryside is absolutely beautiful. There's green everywhere with all sorts of creatures..." She stopped and blinked, "I'm sorry; I'm just rambling." She glanced over at Shura at the recollection of Rania and wondered if Shura had come from Rania originally. There was a griffin in the palace; an old, elderly man who was the colors of midnight black with flashing golden eyes that was as sharp as a dagger. At the memory tugged forth some even more unpleasant ones that she would rather not think about: the sneers of the other mages, the leering of the men as she walked by, the snickers amongst the nobles, and the gossip and scandal that always seemed to surround her whenever she walked alone. As she remembered these thoughts, her eyes darkened to that of a rumbling storm, stirring and restless. Lancelot jumped out of her lap, causing her to snap out of her thoughts and to move after him. "Lancelot!" She reached for him as he hopped away. "Oh shoot," she blew up a strand of hair that had fallen into her face. The white fur-ball had disappeared underneath the couch. "Lancelot! Come out from under there!" "Safe." "I'm sure it's safer if you were to stay in my lap," Sayuri said. "And to not jump around... See? I have some more carrots here for you." Lancelot's nose was at work as it busily sniffed the air and he sort of walked over. "More?" "More what? Do you want something other than carrots?" When he didn't respond, Sayuri sat back up and said apologetically, "I'm sorry about this, Lancelot is a bit... feeling unsafe in this new environment. Usually Eve watches over him but since she isn't here... he doesn't really feel very safe." How embarrassing. First day and here she is on the ground, trying to coax out a small bunny from underneath the seats. She didn't like using magic in these kinds of situations and she felt that since Lancelot wasn't necessarily hers, she felt that she shouldn't use magic to pull him out because he wasn't really a magical creature, especially with his limited knowledge of communication. The pouch was one thing, but him himself, was another thing. |

Mirai attributed the flush on the ambassador’s cheeks to the warmth of the tea. Well, either that, or Shura’s charms was working remarkably well. That lazy, roguish smile could easily uproot the confidence of any unsuspecting women. That was the first impression he gave her, anyway. Their first meeting had involved an embarrassing few seconds of her mind blanking. She had expected to see a common military man- crop hair, square face and hard eyes. Shura didn’t fit the description. He was all... confidence, arrogant, with the face of a- well, not a face that would quite fit the militia. He would have been more fitting to be an inn guard. On second thought... maybe not. He would ruin the maids. Shura wasn’t smiling anymore, though. Perhaps the ambassador was warmed by the tea after all. However, Mirai didn’t realize that the plain expression he was wearing hid a torrent of guilt, remorse and worry. He downed the remaining tea in his cup and bent forward to pour more. His harsh movements radiated aggravation- at himself. Rapt wasn’t the right description for Mirai’s intent gaze as she listened to the ambassador. Keen, perhaps, and calculating, considering. Yes, she had always been curious about the outside world but Mirai was more concerned with the matter at hand. The King must have lost his mind if he only sent Shura to accompany the ambassador of Rania. Shura was a danger to others as well as himself. While his... bouts of shifting was under better control, Shura still required close monitoring. She suspected Shura wouldn’t tell her about the errand they were about. Mirai was hoping to scrape out any clue the ambassador let slip. If luck was with her. She stopped and blinked, "I'm sorry; I'm just rambling." She glanced over at Shura at the recollection of Rania and wondered if Shura had come from Rania originally. Birds, flying and creatures were what her minds sifted out. The little movement of the ambassador’s gaze caused a small, cold little dread writhe in the pit of her stomach. The ambassador couldn’t possibly know. She couldn’t! “That’s quite alright. I asked, anyway.” Mirai managed a weak smile, praying that her face did not pale. She was assuming too much. She must be. From the corner of her eye, Shura’s gaze was half hooded and smouldered light amber, staring straight at her with the sharpness of a keen blade. A warning. Mirai recognized that. He wanted her to stop probing. A small spurt of fiery anger warmed her chest, but her expression remained passive, undeterred. She nearly jumped when the ambassador exclaimed. Blinking, she looked down at the other woman. The ambassador was talking to the rabbit. A rabbit. Mirai’s jaw unhinged and a quizzical frown knotted her brows. Slowly, her mouth worked to try forming words, but she didn’t know what to say. This is remarkable. Impossible! She looked at Shura for aid and found him grinning at her. “She... talks... to the rabbit?” her voice sounded faint and hesitant. Suddenly, all her thoughts were scattered. “Not to rabbits only. Animals in general, I suppose. Eve’s a falcon,” Shura replied nonchalantly. He was enjoying this. Flushing, she turned back to the mage. “I... apologize. I am unfamiliar with Ranians, forgive me for offending.” At the mention of Resee’s name, Mirai shook herself to regain composure. “So I see you’ve met Jegan, Keira and Resee.” She smiled and nodded. “I can understand that. Resee- if I may say so- is the clumsier of the two sisters. Keira could have taken charge of the- Lancelot? Or did she refuse and give an excuse on practicality and how much trouble it would cause her?” Mirai nearly tripped over her words when she recalled the rabbit’s given name. Amusing. She would have laughed if she wasn’t startled. This time, Mira was unaware, of the sudden fury that flashed like lightning in Shura's downturned gaze. Edited by Seiss, Mar 2 2010, 07:24 AM.
