"Who is it that? That makes that person really important to me?" Sayuri asked the woman, confused.

"Think hard, you know who he is," she said softly.

Confused, Sayuri did as she was told. She tried to listen to something, to something that might have felt familiar. Was someone moving her as she felt herself being jostled by something.

She heard it then.

“Come on, love… wake up! You have a duty- a duty to fulfill, damn it! Come on… wake up,” he called in a broken voice.

Who was it? Why was the voice so broken? Murky thoughts surrounded her until she felt something bitterly cold against her skin. And then the stabbing soreness from something on her back. What was going on? She was suddenly becoming very aware of the surroundings around her and she watched the white area around her was disappearing, as if it was being sucked away by a sponge.

... Shura?

Then she felt it.

The touch.

And then air.

Ba-thump.

Air was being blown in her mouth... What was going on?

----

Sayuri's body shuddered to life after he had pumped on his third try after taking breaks. She coughed, as the air was finally circulating through her body again as well as her blood. Where was she? Her eyes slowly opened to reveal glazed ruby orbs. Her gaze fell onto the closest thing she saw.

Shura's face.

Weakly, her hand reached up to touch his face, as if wondering if she was alive or not. When she felt warmth, she smiled as the best as she could, but her smile ended up looking very weak and tired. "I'm back..." she whispered. Her hand fell as she seemed to be too tired to keep her eyes open for much too long. "Why... why is everything so cold...?" Even though she was alive, through all that rain and wind, her body was icy to the touch, try as her magic might to warm her up... it just wasn't possible when she had been pretty much on the edge of death.

Weakly, she managed to open the hole and pull out their bags that contained their traveling food and water. She left the saddle in there as well as the much bulkier load. Then, her eyes were threatening to close as the bitter cold from the pounding rain was catching up with her. Small orbs of white-blue light began to appear in the air and began to be sucked into her body. It was as if she herself was trying to refill her magically depleted magic reserves.

He breathed out in relief when she coughed and opened her eyes. The anxiety he had been though had sent a surge of adrenaline. He could only pull up a silly smile as he tried to steady his breaths. So close… so damned close, he almost lost her. He shuddered when her hand touched his cheek, but not from the cold. Her touch sent a warm tingle through his body. He knelt over her, crouched on all fours and dropped his forehead on her collarbone for a brief moment, listening to her whispers.

Shura gathered her up and rocked back onto his heels before rising to his feet. The stone floor was cold, he knew. Coupled with her battered body, he knew she would feel the chill. So he held her close, pressing her against his bare skin in an attempt to provide warmth. Toeing open the large saddlebag, he pulled out a saddle mat and a blanket. They were big, made for his griffin size. They would be more than enough wide for a human to lie on. Gently, he laid her on the mat and tucked her in. “Get some rest, love,” her murmured, stroking her brow, brushing her hair away from her face.

He looked out through the cave opening, debating if he should gather some dried twigs for a fire. Heaving a sigh, he crawled back to the mage and knelt by her side. He should get her dry before she falls asleep. He really shouldn’t be doing this… but if she slept with her clothes wet, she might catch a fever. The village wouldn’t welcome them anymore. There wouldn’t be a healer willing to treat her. Peeling off the blankets, he helped her sit up and rested her against his chest. He pulled the saddle to his side and rummaged for an extra tunic. At the rate of his frequent shifting, he would run out of clothes soon. “I’m going to help you change out of your clothes. They are wet,” he said. “I’m not going to look… I’ll keep my eyes closed and I swear I won’t peek.”

Slowly and gently, he pulled her dress over her head, with his eyes squeezed shut and quickly replaced it with his tunic. He was feeling extremely warm from embarrassment… and something else. Sayuri probably wasn’t faring as well. Then he tucked her in again and bid her to sleep.

When Shura lifted her, she felt the warmth of his body warm her own chilled one. She felt his muscles ripple as he moved to balance her so that she heard the faint rustlings of a bag being moved. He was warmer than she had remembered him to be...

“Get some rest, love,” her murmured, stroking her brow, brushing her hair away from her face.

"I'll... try to..." she whispered. She closed her eyes and felt the chill still, despite no longer being on the cold ground. She heard movement, but it had seemed so distant, so far away, that she almost didn't hear it. Then she felt the blanket leave her and felt even more of the cold come towards her until she felt herself picked up, at which she opened her eyes. His chest was warm as she rested against it. She turned her gaze to watch him rummage through the bags to find clothes. She wondered how many of those clothes he had gone through to shift into his griffin form. Does that mean he would need new shirts soon? More or less, more clothes anyway.

“I’m going to help you change out of your clothes. They are wet,” he said. “I’m not going to look… I’ll keep my eyes closed and I swear I won’t peek.”

She only agreed, seeing that it would be pointless to argue that she herself wanted to change herself. At the way she is at now, it'd only just prove that she's really too stubborn. Sayuri obediently let the dress slide over her head, and felt embarrassed and so bare for the first time in front of Shura, a man... a healthy young man at that. She glanced at Shura, and found that he actually closed his eyes. As the tunic slid over her head, she smelled... him. It had his scent, his smell that she knew that belonged to Shura. The sleeves were longer than she had expected and the tunic came down to her thighs, long enough to be considered a dress as Sayuri noticed if she were to stand, it would be at her knees.

When he finished, just as he was about to set her down onto the floor, she stopped him and spoke softly, "It's warmer being near you, so may I sleep against your chest?" Truthfully, she didn't think she would be able to feel safe away from his arms, especially after that. She didn't know what happened to Tryst and Seryel. Especially Tryst... she had to ask such a bad favor from him and she hoped that he didn't have anything against her for it. Her body tensed at the thought of sleeping on the ground when sleeping against his chest would be much safer.

"And besides, you're wet from the rain too," she murmured as she tugged at the blanket as it wrapped around him, thanks to a bit of Sayuri's magic. Her red hair clung to the sides of her face as water from her hair dripped down her face. She raised her hand to move away a lock of hair that came into his face, that was dripping water into her own. She flinched as she took out her hair from underneath the tunic and found herself completely exhausted and now unable to move.

Her body was still cold to the touch, but it was being warmed quickly by the closeness that Shura's body was to Sayuri's. She rested against his collar bone and into the crook of his neck and shoulder as she began to fall asleep. Her forehead touched against his neck. Mildly, she hoped that Lancelot was all right...

However, her gaze filtered to Eve, who was on the bridle of the saddle, her one wing resting against her side at a unnatural angle. Her feathers weren't even straight and Sayuri mumbled something as a soft warm light enveloped her, healing all of her injuries. Then Sayuri's eyes closed, mumbling something along the lines of, "It's not Tryst's fault... it's mine." It sounded as if it was a response to something Eve had asked her.

Then, Sayuri's consciousness was gone as she slipped into the world of the unconscious mind.

He didn’t object her request, but it did surprise him that she was willing or would ask at all. He simply nodded, a wistful, worried expression on his face. She had bothered to care for him, too while she was far from better compared to him. His injuries had healed, mostly. The rest that remained were minor. They would heal in time without much care needed. “Thank you,” he whispered, not trusting his voice to speak. There was a little knot in his throat that wouldn’t go away. His eyes drifted close when he felt her cold fingertips brush his face. He swallowed, feeling the lump crawl up. He quickly lifted a hand to help her free her hair from underneath his tunic. When she had tired herself and rested against him, he pulled the blanket around them both and shifted so his back was resting against the wall.

His arms around her tightened, pressing her cold body against his. They were indecent… his body had just alerted him of that. He had no shirt on and she was very underdressed. Her softness was pressing into him and it made him shift a little uncomfortably. Mild annoyance niggled at the corners of his mind. This was not the right time to think like that. This was going to be torture….

Then Shura heard her mumble. He frowned and muttered, “When you wake, we need to talk. Now, sleep.” And obviously… he wasn’t going to be able to get any sleep at all. It reminded him of having a chocolate treat pressed on his lips, but he was forbidden to eat it.

While she slept, he kept watch.

Sayuri awoke several hours later, feeling completely refreshed, albeit very sore. Not because she was sleeping awkwardly, but because her body had been severely cold several hours ago. She wondered where she was for a moment as she woke up slowly. She slowly grew aware of the fact that she was sleeping in his arms. A soft blush crept up her neck to her face. Well, she was the one who had asked.

She was very warm, thanks to the comfort of the blanket and the heat from Shura's body. Even her fingers were not cold anymore. Aware of Shura's gaze as she moved slightly, her hand reached out of the blanket to find that the air was chilly and quickly withdrew her hand. Her elbow had lightly hit him in the chest and she turned to look at him with a quick apology.

"Sorry!"

And then realized that he hadn't slept at all and that it was still cloudy outside, but the rain had stopped... barely. It was drizzling now.

"Erm... good evening I suppose... How long was I asleep?"

He smiled wearily when she finally woke. When she moved however, his smile froze and his breath hitched. Her damned body brushed against his and it wasn’t doing him any good. He wanted to kiss her all over again, like last night. Shura was just about to tell her to stop moving, when her elbow hit his chest. He flinched from the sudden impact, though not hard and laughed. She was going to be the death of him one day.

“Eager to get away from me?” he teased, cuddling her closer, fully accepting the responses his body had for hers. He was feeling extremely warm and there was almost an urge to press her closer and of course… the itch to kiss her. Nuzzling her hair, he caught the scent of rain in her dried hair, mingled with her own. “You are so soft,” he purred. Then he sat up straight, the amusement fading from his eyes. “You’ve been asleep for only a few hours. It’s only evening, as you have already noted. I want to get some things clear between us. For me to do my job- to protect you, I need you to agree. If this keeps up, I will go insane.”

He sighed in frustration, glaring at the opposite wall. “I don’t want you to help me if I am injured, nor do I want you to interfere when there is a fight, unless I specifically ask for aid. Do I have you word on this?”

When he laughed at her elbow hit, she perked up an eye-brow in question. Was it funny that she hit him? Then again, as she remembered with a slight blush creeping up her face, his body was more than enough to not notice it. After all, his body was... muscular.

And strong, she thought as she realized that he was still shirtless.

“Eager to get away from me?” he teased, cuddling her closer, fully accepting the responses his body had for hers. Nuzzling her hair, he caught the scent of rain in her dried hair, mingled with her own. “You are so soft,” he purred.

Sayuri didn't say anything as he moved her closer to him. It was warm, indeed, and she could only imagine what it would be like when they started traveling again. They needed to, she knew, least the assassins would come after them again. Mentally, she knew that she was now probably going to enjoy every moment she had with him... as much as she herself wanted to deny the part of her that held affections for the man who is meant to be her body guard. At the nuzzling, her body immediately responded with a slight shift as she covered her mouth. She looked up at him when he began to speak, watching the amusement fade from his eyes.

“You’ve been asleep for only a few hours. It’s only evening, as you have already noted. I want to get some things clear between us. For me to do my job- to protect you, I need you to agree. If this keeps up, I will go insane.”

She only nodded, briefly before realizing that she might have been the one who was interfering with his "work." But she wanted to protect him as well. Was that so wrong?

He sighed in frustration, glaring at the opposite wall. “I don’t want you to help me if I am injured, nor do I want you to interfere when there is a fight, unless I specifically ask for aid. Do I have you word on this?”

She noted the sigh and glare. Was she really that much of a bother? She looked down into her lap, away from his face as she let his words sink. Does that mean she had no choice but to remain helpless until he asks for her help? She didn't like being useless or the feeling of unable to help anyone. "Does that mean I just have to wait for your... 'order' for me to do anything?" she asked softly. She felt that if she did it that way, then it'd be easier for her. Orders were what she was used to back at Rania, especially when they sometimes went out to do their runs. It was easier to follow them from her superiors... well, until she herself got promoted to those levels.

She turned herself enough so that her back rested against Shura's chest, so that she can turn her head easier to look at the entrance of the cave and her surroundings. She rested on his left side more so when she awkwardly went to retrieve her hair from the back to move it to the front, it revealed a portion of her neck.

Sayuri began to run her fingers through her hair as if to comb it out. She looked over at the entrance of the cave and found that the drizzling was still ongoing.

No… that wasn’t what he meant. He didn’t want her to obey him, not really. Shura only wanted her to have the mind to protect herself and not risk her own well being for him. It defeats the purpose of his position as her guardian. How else should he explain it to her? He had never intended to exceed his post. “I didn’t mean to say you are to wait for my orders…” he began hesitantly. How the hell should he explain? This wasn’t going to get him anywhere. He knew his statements would be contradicting. He sighed in frustration and tightened his arms around her waist. The last thing he needed was to hurt her feelings again.

Finally, he settled with as simple a sentence as possible, “I am supposed to protect you, not the other way around.”

He stiffened when she moved, daring to breathe only when she stopped. A smile tugged at his lips when she pulled her hair away to reveal the little red mark he had left. It had yet to fade and he doubted that it would in another two days. Unwinding an arm from her waist, he caressed it with the tips of his fingers. His shirt was a misfit- its collar was a little too wide for her frame and it sloped easily at his touch to uncover more of her smooth skin. Frowning, he untangled his other arm from her waist and tried to shift his shirt so it covered her properly.

It wasn’t working… the fabric kept shifting and sliding. He had to fight a groan whenever the collar slid slowly, teasingly down a shoulder. He ended up glaring at the shirt, feeling very much like a fool. He had never tried to cover up a woman’s body. His expertise was in removing their clothes. This was almost torturous….

“I give up!” he growled. Then he pulled the blanket off his shoulders to wrap it around hers. He grasped her shoulders, spun her to him and pressed a hungry kiss on her lips. He had been dying to do that. As he deepened it, he pushed her onto the riding mat underneath them. He really shouldn't be doing this....

Breathless, he pulled away and stood up, pulling his clothes out of the saddlebag as he went. “You should get dressed… we can’t remain here for long,” he said, turning to leave the cave to grant her privacy. “I’ll be just out side.”

“I didn’t mean to say you are to wait for my orders…” he began hesitantly. He sighed in frustration and tightened his arms around her waist.

Finally, he settled with as simple a sentence as possible, “I am supposed to protect you, not the other way around.”

"All right, I suppose," she murmured softly. "I'll let you do your job then... I think." When his arms tightened around her waist, she felt herself touch more securely to his chest. Her heart was pounding against her chest and almost felt as it was loud enough for him to hear. Her face flushed slightly at the memory as it flooded her mind, her sense suddenly sharpening as his touch came. His finger tips touched the mark he left on her, and her body shuddered.

Then she felt him remove his other arm from her waist as he tried to fix the tunic that was on her. She wondered with each movement he did, that it seemed to get more frustrating for him. His movements were more hasty with each movement.

“I give up!” he growled.

"Give up?" she asked, turning her head just as she felt the blanket drape over her shoulders as she then felt him turn her to place a... hungry kiss on her lips. It ignited something in her body and she didn't want it to be there. She was pushed onto the riding mat and felt for a moment his body press against her own as he deepened the kiss, her mouth once again tasting his.

And then he pulled away.

“You should get dressed… we can’t remain here for long,” he said, turning to leave the cave to grant her privacy. “I’ll be just outside.”

Wrapping the blanket closely to herself, she looked up towards him as she sat up again, watching him leave.

"Do I want to ask?" Eve tilted her head in question.

A blush blossomed on her face as the memories of last night and the moment they had just had sunk in. Gently, she rubbed the lovebite for a moment before standing up. As the blanket fell around her ankles, Eve fluttered in surprise.

"Are you wearing his shirt?" Eve asked as something similar to distaste riddled her voice.

Sayuri wrapped her arms around herself as she lifted part of his shirt for her to smell. It really did have his scent on it... and she inhaled. She wasn't sure though, why she loved the smell he wore, although she knew he naturally smelled that way. When she glanced over the saddle, she noticed that Shura was really away from her, to grant her privacy.

Blushing as she stripped off his shirt, baring her to the cold, she shivered before pulling out her bag from the hole and found her traveling clothing. Deciding that several more layers would be beneficial, especially in the weather she created, she pulled out her white-strapped undergarment that supported her chest that draped down to about her thighs. On top of that, she wore a longer dress with a slight v-neck only to about her collar bone. It only showed less than half of her shoulder with long sleeves that was loose enough for wide movement. Taking out her brush, she quickly brushed her hair enough until most of the tangles were out. She took his tunic, partially wondering what to do with it and partially thinking that he wouldn't mind, she placed it back into the place where his clothes sat.

"Shura, I'm done changing," she called.

Then quickly using magic, she rolled up the riding mat and the blanket up before placing it into the saddle. She coughed once and then pulled out something to drink. Relieved to find that it wasn't anything serious, she placed the water back before pulling out Lancelot and the rest of her items out of the hole. Lancelot popped his head out and Sayuri kissed it gently on its nose. She petted him with a finger before slinging the small bag over her shoulder.

She opened the hole again for the griffin saddle to be put into the hole as it disappeared. Now, the place was clear from any settlement.

"Um... ready," Sayuri said softly.

He pulled on the fresh set of clothes and abandoned his tattered pants. He would need to get additional clothes soon. Or he could simply choose to go topless. The latter sounded much more convenient, but he doubted it was proper. Heaving a sigh, he stalked towards the tree where he tied the stolen horses to and unwound the reins from the branch, leading them to wait at the cave’s entrance.

It was a good thing that she had magic to help her heal fast. Shura had already seen her back- not a trace of the stab wound was visible. Humans… there was no way he could trust any of them. Every time he did, they would always fail him. It was clearly his fault and foolish blind faith to continue to trust one. Then again… whose fault was it that he entered a settlement? Right… his, of course. He kept in mind to avoid civilizations as much as possible.

Shura reentered the cave hesitantly when she called and was relieved to find her decently clothed. Now that wasn’t so hard, was it? The sudden disappearance made him quirk a questioning brow at her. “Did you keep the saddle?” he asked, handing her the rein of one horse while he mounted the other. “It’ll be a three weeks’ ride to reach the Strata Mountains.”
