"As long as you are still alive, there is always a chance for you to find a cure. Tell me everything, let me help." "I'll take you back. We will get out best healer to take a look at you. How long has this been going on?" he asked as gently as he could, trying not to sound rough from his previous anger. "You seemed perfectly fine when you first arrived...." Sayuri was surprised at the gentleness that Shura had when he turned her to face him. She was even more surprised when he began to wipe away her tears. When he spoke, she listened, knowing full well her duty and what he was saying would fail. Her gentle ruby eyes looked up at Shura for a moment before looking down. When he pulled her close, she felt that he had more to say so she did not speak until she was sure he was done. "I'll get you some food and get the healer to examine you again." He pulled back, dabbing her hankerchief lightly over her damp face to clear away the remaining moisture and tucked stray strands of her hair behind her ear. "Are you feeling alright, now?" "No, I can't go back... not until I've fulfilled my duty," she murmured softly, knowing full well that Shura would get angry again. "But before you get angry, listen to me, this started only... last night so it shouldn't be that serious." At least, she hoped it wouldn't be that serious. She rested her head against Shura's chest for a moment, closing her eyes as she breathed in deeply to calm herself. "It's probably the stress from everything..." When he pulled her away, she looked up as he dabbed away the remaining tears that remained. She smiled gently before closing her eyes again and leaned against his chest, unaware of it as her fever again shot up several degrees. "I'll be fine if I sleep..." she whispered. "It's the best I've ever been..." She sounded almost delirious were it not for the fact that her breathing was normal. She groaned and whimpered when she tried moving her legs, clearly not used to the idea of having broken legs. Eve fluttered nearby, watching with a careful gaze. She seemed worried as she watched over the female. ---- Tryst lay on the bed staring up at the ceiling when he felt the pestering Seryel's pokes. Again. He sighed. "All right, I'll go check on her for you," he murmured, getting out of bed. His ruffled blonde hair and lazy smile turned towards his wife for a moment as his bare muscled chest lay revealed for another moment before he replaced his shirt over his head. He brushed his hair before kissing Seryel on the lips as he was about to leave. "I'll be right back, my dear," he murmured as he closed the door behind him. He headed out of the office to check with Bob and when everything was in order, he brought up herbs and new bandages as he ascended the stairs. He knocked on the door, waiting for the male's voice from inside the room to reply for him to enter. Tryst had brought with him, other than the herbs and bandages, some water and food in case the red-haired female had woken up. He wondered for a moment what the male's and the female's relationship was for it was rare for him to see a man like him treat a female like her with such... tenderness? He wasn't sure of the word, but he was pretty sure that it was possible that the man almost... treasured her... though, he was just assuming things... |

He sucked in a breath, stiffening as he readied himself to start another angry rant at her, but her next words brought a sudden halt the words he had yet to utter. What? She was missing the point! Coughing up blood and running a fever was very serious. He stared down at her, mouth slightly open, but he couldn't push the words through his throat. He sighed heavily in frustration. When she mentioned the stress however, he only scowled childishly at the wall. There was no way he was going to apologize for that. "You are so damn infuriatingly stubborn do you know that?" he muttered. It was pointless, he realized, if he were to argue with her. "Your condition is serious. If some stupid fortune teller tells you that you won't die until you reach thirty, and you want me to believe him, just dream. This has to be treated early, don't you understand?" Mirai's mother had died of lung disease with similar symptoms... he knew that the chances of treating it early would give the patient a chance to fight and recover with the aid of medication. He sighed. If this mission would give him enough time to take a break and visit his best friend, fiance. Shura was feeling guilty for being too busy and neglecting her. "Come in," he said, when he heard someone knock on the door. He was grateful when he saw the inn owner bring in food and some medication. "Is the healer coming to see her?" he asked. "She is ill... she coughed up blood." ------------ She had stirred before Tryst did. Seryel couldn't believe how sore she was, espcially her lower back and her legs. But she felt somewhat satisfied, her womb filled with him. She blushed at the thought and hid her face under the sheets, against his arm. The most embarassing of all, was a tiny little problem- alright, it wasn't tiny, she was a little desperate- she couldn't get off the bed without crumpling to the floor. The day before was their day off, but today, she couldn't walk. The inn would be short of hands. Too shy and timid to say anything, she poked Tryst to try and wake him. He was sleeping so soundly, she wondered if he was just faking it to keep her with him. The entire day... she should have known he had been determined to keep her in bed. If she wasn't so drunk with pleasure and burning with so much desire- no thanks to him- she would have still had the mind to remind him that she had to work the next day. Wouldn't he get tired of her? Now with a clear mind, with the previous day's memory still fresh, she felt her insides ignite and her cheeks burn. She had eventually picked up her guts to remind Tryst of their most recent patient. There was no way she could see the girl like this.... A shiver ran down her spine at his parting words and kiss. Seryel sank deeper under the covers and clutched it to her chest. When he left, she considered if she should try and reach their bathing room. She tried getting off the bed... but her legs were are good as liquid. With a sigh of resignation, she lay curled on her side, blankets pulled up to cover her decently. |

It was too late for Sayuri to hear anything again for she had fallen asleep. Again, she was running in her dreams. Why was she running? Was it something to do with her future or was it because of something else? What was she running from? Again, her fever reached heated heights as she began to groan in her sleep as she tried finding comfort in something... Tryst came in just as she was groaning, his eyes immediately furrowed in concern. "Is she still feverish?" Before the man can reply, he gently picked up the sleeping female and lay her down, immediately lifting up the blankets to replacing her worn out bandages with new ones, his fingers quick with the use of herbs. When he finished, he handed the man a small bottle of what appears to be medicine. "Make her drink this, it'll help with her fever and you said she was coughing out blood?" he asked, sitting on the edge of the bed, watching the small female. "When did she start coughing out the blood? Oh and um... what should I call you? It'd be rude if I kept calling you some other name..." He paused for a moment as he thought of some other things. His smile still lingered on his face in an almost annoying way, as the situation was serious and it would seem as if he wasn't taking it seriously. "How old is she? Has she been able to relax at all lately?" |

"Yes she is still feverish," Shura replied, tucking her hankerchief into his pocket and dipping the towel into the basin of cool water. He twisted the drenched towel to squeeze out the excess water and pressed it to her head, wiping her neck and cooling her flushed face. He was a little miffed that the man had taken Sayuri from him to lay her down. Didn't he think he could managed that for her? Taking the bottle of medicine from him, Shura approached the table, pouring a small amount into a spoon before approaching Sayuri. He lifted her gently, leaning her back against his chest as settled at the edge of the bed. Then slowly, like the first time he had fed her, coaxed the medicine into her mouth. He stroked her tender throat, helping her swallow. "I'm Shura. Yours, sir?" he asked a little distractedly, laying her back down and pulling the blankets to her chin. "How much of this must I feed her? How many times a day?" His attention was on her, though the man's smile was rubbing him the wrong way. But the question about Sayuri's age put him instantly on edge. "Why are you interested in her age?" He narrowed his eyes irritably. "I much prefer your lady healer yesterday. She said she started coughing up blood just recently. We've been travelling... it might have been too hard for her body." Then he fell silent. "I've seen symptoms like this before... usually-" he clered his throat, looking away, "usually... coughing up blood means the illness is already in its late stages." |

"I'm Shura. Yours, sir?" he asked a little distractedly, laying her back down and pulling the blankets to her chin. "How much of this must I feed her? How many times a day?" "I'm Tryst, and ignore my smile, it's always on my face," he said softly as he got up from the bed. Despite his smile, his eyes seemed serious and grim almost... how contradicting. "Twice, once in the morning and once before she goes to bed. She can take them with her meals and how much you just fed her now is good enough." However, his attention was no longer on the female, he was now paying attention a mixture of a rather pleasant smelling herb mixture. There also a sort of spicy smell to it as well as he continued to mix. Before he could speak up again, the question that Tryst had asked concerning the female's age must of set him on edge which caused Tryst to raise a curious eye-brow at Shura. . "Why are you interested in her age?" He narrowed his eyes irritably. "I much prefer your lady healer yesterday. She said she started coughing up blood just recently. We've been traveling... it might have been too hard for her body." Then he fell silent. "I've seen symptoms like this before... usually-" he cleared his throat, looking away, "usually... coughing up blood means the illness is already in its late stages." "It would be easier for me so I know what kind of herbs I can use on her, depending on her age," Tryst said simply. He paused as he listened to his explanation. "It's possible that it is the stress from traveling as well as anything else. If she didn't have a decent amount of relaxation, wouldn't this happen because she was constantly worried or stressed?" He paused as he turned his back on Shura and the sleeping female. "But in case it's that other thing, I'll immediately make some of the herbs that can slow it down... but if it's already in its late stages, then even medicine can't save her." However, just as he turned around to face Shura, his eyes grew wide at the blue sparks that flickered across the female's body, mainly around her chest and legs. It was a soft light and when Tryst reached out to touch one, the female flinched and he stood back to watch. Her breathing earlier that had sounded irregular was breathing evenly and soft as she fell deeper asleep. "What was that?" Tryst asked in a rather careful voice. His smile had sharpened considerably to the point it might be almost creepily scary. |

He would have laughed at the man's statement about hi smile. It made him sound like a madman. Shura couldn't quite manage the humour since the man was helping Sayuri. He simply nodded at Tryst's instructions before turning around to dip the warmed towel into the basin of cool water again, repeating the process of helping her body to cool. When Tryst explained to him why he needed to know Sayuri's age at all, Shura grimaced and rubbed the back of his neck with slight embarassment. He cleared his throat and said honestly, "I have no idea how old she is... sixteen? I can't be sure. I've never asked." His hands fisted and his jaw clenched when Tryst admitted that there was no cure. A bitter taste lingered at the back of his throat when he recalled how Mirai and he had refused to accept her mother's impending death. Diseases with no cure.... He wasn't going to lose another dear one to it, was he? I will be waiting. Always. You know where to find me, don't you? High, high above where your wings can take you, to a shrouded mirror that you will have to break to see your reflection.... That voice. His breath caught and his body froze. He was so close... so close to recognizing who it was. But at the very last crucial second, his memory would flee and leave him with nothing but a sensation of familiarity. "What was that?" "Hmm?" He turned and followed Tryst's line of sight. Oh damn.... Shura considered pretending that he didn't see what he saw, but it would be futile eventually. "Times are difficult for the both of us. She is being hunted... by the some people. I hope you'd keep our presence a secret." Or he would be forced to take his life. Edited by Seiss, Aug 24 2009, 03:30 AM.

He cleared his throat and said honestly, "I have no idea how old she is... sixteen? I can't be sure. I've never asked." "Then it would be difficult to figure out what kind of herbs and medicines would work on her, as some would work very well on children while some are best preferred to stay on the adults," Tryst replied with a soft shrug. "Be sure to ask though, when she awakes though." He paused as he watched Shura's reaction to his words about no cure for what the female has. It was saddening, yes, but perhaps medicine cannot save her, but something else...? "Times are difficult for the both of us. She is being hunted... by the some people. I hope you'd keep our presence a secret." Tryst's smile flickered and suddenly, his eyes were sharp as he smiled to the point of blinding. "So you were the pair that they were looking for," he said with an acidic smile before it softened. "We won't give you away, in exchange for telling me why they are hunting a small girl like her for... although, from the looks of it, she seems to be quite rare to possess something like that." He gestured at the sparks that flickered out across the female's chest. "I give you my word that I won't give you away, however, please understand that should they come into the inn, we cannot deny them a night's stay should they want to. I want to keep my life, thank you very much as well as my wife's. "However, I'd like to know her name, so I do not refer to her simply as 'that girl' or 'the female' or whatever else." For a moment, there was a flutter of silence as Tryst stopped talking. In that split moment, there was a voice outside that muttered something along the lines of: "You said that it was here? The girl?" "Yes, and you mentioned that she had fiery-like red hair?" Tryst clicked the window shut, and closed the curtains. The room fell almost pitch black, were it not for the fact that the curtains were still slightly open to let in enough moonlight. "Now, explain." His emerald eyes glanced down for a moment at the girl when she stifled a small groan before turning her head to become comfortable again as she slept peacefully. |

The inn keeper's reasoning sounded fair enough, though he was a little offended when Tryst referred to Sayuri... as a sort of living specimen. He was suprised however, with how fast the news spread. Did he know who were after them? The King may as well have sent his armies out with so many signs of disorder emerging. He would need to warn his cousin to suppress the rebel in time. Assassinations and attempted rebels were stretching the line. Spreading of news beyond the capital city was too much. "Her name's Sayuri," he said stiffly. And Tryst... he didn't seem to know what Sayuri was. He didn't seem aware that Shura was a Rune Knight either. Strange. He was about to ask Tryst what he knew of the 'they' he was referring to, when the voices outside froze his blood. Goddamn... why was a moment of peace so difficult to maintain? His fist tightened over the towel when Tryst moved to shut the windows and draw the curtains. The sudden darkness barely affected his perfect sight. His light golden eyes glowed ever so slightly as they narrowed with frustration. "Now, explain." His gaze rested on Sayuri's shifting form, before drifting to Tryst's face with a calculative expression. He had wanted to lure these hunters away on his own, but it was risky- they would know that they were really here. Shura wouldn't be able to hide Sayuri and get her proper medical treatment if these men knew. It would prove difficult to find another resting place. Then again... Shura couldn't really stay and put her in danger. They needed to leave... soon. No, he didn't need to explain to Tryst. The less he knew, the better. "You'd be lucky if those outside are from His Majesty's Royal Grounds. If not... you are in danger," he said carefully and stood up, pocketing the medicine and scooped Sayuri gently into his arms. "I will leave. You will be in no danger if you allow them to search your inn thoroughly. I just need help to get out." |

I just need help to get out." "Would you be really willing to move her now?" Tryst asked softly with almost a pained smile. His eyes glanced down at the female who seemed to almost groan in pain. "I never said that I'd be willing to let them search my inn's rooms, now did I?" The female then gripped whatever was at hand and that appeared to be Shura's shirt. "She's in no condition to move." His eyes flickered a bit icily. "As words from my wife and I, leave her here until she has fully recovered from her fever, least she could have wild and crazy dreams that can and may occur." Then a flash of movement that revealed that Tryst carried what appears to be a blade in a rather dull-looking sheath. "Yes, I happen to know that you are one of the Rune Knights, but I had hoped that I was going to continue to pray ignorance, but I see that is no longer possible," Tryst said softly. "I had only hoped that your lady, Sayuri, was not actually the rumored Mage from Rania." He paused. "And besides, my wife would still like to look over Sayuri's recovery herself, least she would get on a worried fit for days... So stay here... you're safe here." Then just as he was about to leave, he paused by the door as he said slowly, "Whether you would want to move her like that through this time of night or not is your choice... but this is probably the safest place for miles around. And... you're welcome." Then the door clicked shut. Tryst left the room and quickly descended the stairs and headed into his room where Seryel awaited. He opened and closed the door behind him as he sat down on the edge of the bed and quickly told her the details of Sayuri's condition in brief details... then slowly began to explain why they were on the run from those men earlier. That those people who had come around earlier had actually despised the idea of a Mage entering their home land, and that Sayuri did not deserve to come so that she ought to be killed. The male with her, Shura, was her protector; one of the king's Rune Knights, the captain no doubt. "Understand? I really hope we aren't helping the wrong side... least we ourselves might be on the run... would you be all right with that?" he asked softly, looking at her gently. He had hoped that it would not come time to bear his sword again, but he found that he had no choice. However, before Seryel could answer, Bob knocked on the door. "Sir, there's a man here asking some questions I think you ought to answer!" Then Tryst turned to Seryel with an anxious expression as he quickly asked, "Are you prepared?" --------- When Shura had picked up Sayuri, she groaned in pain. Enough to the point that she woke up when the door shut. She squeezed the shirt tighter until her knuckles turned white. "It hurts," she whimpered. Something told her that something called danger was nearby... but her legs hurt more than anything she had expected. Suddenly, she began to hear voices of whispering. It only grew louder as she clamped her ears shut. "Make it stop, make it stop!" she whimpered again, thinking that this was all a nightmare... the pain in her legs, her head, her chest, and now that strange whispering. |

He stared at the inn keeper in shock when the man revealed that he knew who they were. Had he lost his mind? If he didn't allow the rebels to search the inn, his entire life and his wife's would be in danger. They would be hunted along with them. Shura couldn't possibly disrupt a family's life like that. But before he could protest, Tryst was already out, a blade he had somehow missed in his grip. Had he lost his mind? There was no way the inn was safe now. Even if he killed those outside now... the others would know. It would only be a matter of time before they caught up and destroy whatever's left of the inn. Shit. Where's Jegan and Resee when you need them? Everything was against him, it seemed. Sayuri awoke in pain. Shura rushed her hastily to the bed and laid her down gently, Murmuring comforting words as he sat with her and took her hand. He gazed at her helplessly, an entire knot of frustration, worry and pain tangled in his chest. They were forced to be sitting ducks, trapped. Here he was, in another situation where he couldn't... do anything. Her anxious whimpers brought him to his knees by her bed. He didn't know how to help to drive away her delirious nightmares. He began uncertainly, bewildered with his own memory, murmuring a lullaby in a different language, one he was sure, was of one of the many native languages in Rania. He kept his voice in a deep, soothing timbre, well above a whisper, but hushed enough to avoid detection. His eyes glazed over as his free hand lifted and stroked her hair almost lovingly.... "Hush my precious one, hush The moon and stars thither If you be good and close your eyes And listen only to my voice I can take you to the skies Over mountains with snow crevice Shimmering rivers wi' waterfall dives I'll fold you a paper bird And paint it with the wind's palette If you be good and close your eyes Paper bird will take flight o'er minaret Lofty tower pointing yonder infinites The heavens, of paradise, empyre-tte To Shangri-La, Zion, Arcadia...." His voice... the soothing texture that could only belong to him. "Oh come, you are part bird and you cannot sing? Here, let me repeat that. How wonderful it would be if you can sing that to your offspring!" A wave of sadness washed over him. His hand paused over her brow and his head dropped. Who? A ragged breath passed through his lips as he foughr the contraction in his lungs. ----- When Tryst returned, she couldn't help the embarassement when she was still undressed. She pulled the blankets around her and clutched it to her small form as she sat up and listened to him. Worry, fear and suprise was apparent on her face when he explained to her that the ones they had brought into their home were wanted individuals. She smiled assuringly at him when he sought her assent. "It looks like you've already made up your mind," she said. "It doesn't matter who we are against... but if you think it is the right choice, I'll stand by you whatever you decide." The knocks on the door very nearly startled her. She blinked and blushed furiously when he asked one of the most absurd questions. Seryel could barely stand, let alone dress. Was she prepared? No... she needed her clothes. "I... can't stay on my feet for long." She stared hard at the rumpled fabric of their blanket. Edited by Seiss, Sep 1 2009, 05:08 AM.
