Green-robed man? "That would be Aurus. One of my Scriptors," he told her. "If you had known what the demon had done to my kingdom, you would understand why it was necessary. Any hesitance on our part will result in more deaths," he said, almost with a lack of emotion. He had lost a few of his Rune Knights again. At least, this time, it wasn't half of his elite army. Then in a hardened tone, the King continued, his piercing gaze alarmingly fierce, "I will let you stay under one condition. For years, we've tried to tame the demon, but to no avail. I will allow you to stay, if you can hold the demon." It was unlike the Tenarin King to retract his decision. But Shura... his cousin... if there was a chance to free him of the demon's binds, Rouran would gladly take it. Of course, not without precaution. Edited by Seiss, May 10 2009, 12:35 AM.

"Ah," was all she said, putting his name to memory in case it should come up that she would meet the man again and this time, give him the appropriate respect... if she should ever meet him again, after all, the only other time she saw him was in the Audience chamber when she first met the King. His lack of emotion in his statement was surprising, after all, she had read it in the tomes and papers in the library, but she hadn't read everything there... What an awesome time to remember to go try to sneak into the Restricted section to find out more. She looked up again towards the king, flinching at his alarmingly fierce and piercing gaze on her, along with a hardened voice. She didn't say anything to his words about letting her stay... what could she say? Thanks? She can't even guarantee that the griffin will listen to her now, after what had happened. But then again, if they let her talk to it without interference, then it's... possible... only after she and the griffin sign a contract together... which seems near impossible, if one asked Sayuri that now. "Thank you very much, your highness," she murmured, her eyes now questioning the condition of the griffin... Her gaze stared at her hands that rested in her lap. "I... Then I would need to make a contract with the griffin... in order to tame it." When she spoke that sentence, her voice was soft, as if she was unsure if those were the words she should have spoken. |

Before the King could say any more, someone knocked desperately on his door. He cast the mage a brief glance, before turning his attention to the door. "Enter." A man dressed in green robes, much younger tha Aurus burst in, appearing slightly frantic. Gerrand however, was slightly annoyed as he held the door open. "My Lord, Shura- he has es- gone. We tried to reason, but was afraid the-" The lad had problems vocalising what he had originally came to say, simply because the seal had prevented him to speak properly with a stranger in the King's study. The King understood him, however. "Where is he now? Are there any men with him?" "Yes, my Lord," the young Researcher breathed. "A few Royal Guards have gone after him. He's headed to the courtyard." He wasn't the least bit suprised. Nodding, the King gestured for the man to leave, and turned to leave the study as well, not bothering to tell the mage to follow. It was unusual for Shura to recover so soon. -------------- He stumbled clumsily into the courtyard, shirtless. The rune burned onto his back was visible to everyone. But he didn't care. Keira... Keira, stupid! Stupid girl! The three Royal Guards remained at the steps, hesitant to near the trio of Rune Knights. Shura, desperate and unwilling to believe what he had been told, scrambled and fell hard to his knees beside the prone body under the blankets. Alarmed, Resee flinched back, and stared uncomprehendingly at him, lost. Jegan was already awake from the loud footsteps. He pulled her close, as if trying to hold her back. Shura appeared so haggard- his hair was a mess, and his body was smudged with dirt. A strip of bandages wrapped across his shoulder to cover his chest. What made his heart sink, however, was the wild look in his golden eyes. "Shura..." A weak voice, no doubt Keira's. Her face was frighteningly pale. Shura had never seen her so ill before. But she isn't ill, she's dying. He ignored his whispering conscience, slipping a trembling hand underneath the blankets to seek her hand. Hers was cold, as cold as the floor on which she lay. "You've come so soon...." She tried to smile, but it didn't quite make it, due to the glaze in her eyes. "Why isn't the healer here?" he rasped, turning around to look desperately to the guards. "Fetch the healer! She needs-" The smallest squeeze of her hand made him stop. "I've been waiting for you," she said weakly. "Listen to me... please." Swallowing a lump in his throat, he nodded mutely, tears already filling his eyes. "I'm tired..." she breathed. "This isn't your fault. I was the stupid one... I didn't listen." Shura squeezed his eyes shut, shaking his head stubbornly like a child. How could she say that? He had been the cause of all of this. "I know you will blame yourself... but please, just this once. Will you believe me?" He whimpered, pulling her hand up to press against his heart, where the burn was. It hurt, but it was more than a physical pain. The King had already waved the Royal Guards away as he stood at the steps, watching in silence with his soulful eyes. Gerrand was no different. Even though he knew Shura had caused so many deaths, it wasn't really him. It wasn't really his fault. For that, he pitied the man. |

Sayuri looked over towards the door after the king allowed whomever was knocking to enter. Suddenly alarmed at the quick entrance of the male who had spoken quite quickly and was hard to decipher due to... whatever it was. Shura? Escaped? From what? "Courtyard?" she whispered, shock filling her face, replacing whatever she had moments before. As soon as the king disappeared from the study, she used her teleport magic to the courtyard, not wanting to run. She appeared moments after Shura landed on his knees. She was alarmed at the wild expression in his golden eyes, his messy hair, and the dirt smudged onto his body. She noticed with wide eyes the rune on his back as if it were fresh, recently placed on him... She snapped out of it when Keira spoke and Sayuri choked with sudden guilt and emotion of sadness. She stood near them, but far enough that she wasn't really over the pair as Keira spoke, hoping that he would not feel guilty. She felt the need to help heal Keira to help relieve Shura of the pained expression on his face, the hollow-like Resee that now seemed lost. She felt the tears fill her eyes, but did not pour over. She covered her mouth with her hands, covering the cry that might rip from her throat if she removed her hands. She could feel the hurt almost physically that Shura was feeling; he was losing someone close to him... and watching your loved ones die was painful... Sayuri understood that, for she's lost many of her dearest friends already. "If only I had gone to heal you sooner," she barely whispered, her voice barely audible, her legs giving out as she landed on her knees then down on her rear. She couldn't do anything now. All she could do now was watch... |

"It's alright," she said, to both Shura and Sayuri. "People die all the time... I just stayed behind a little longer to tell you... this isn't your fault. Shura? Are you listening?" He nodded, almost vigorously, so that she wouldn't have to speak too much. Every single breath she drew was precious. "I hear you," he replied hoarsely." "Don't you... believe me?" He nodded again, a tear at his heart. Keira felt oddly calm now that she had seen him. Resee- she was sure Jegan would take good care of her sister. There were so many things she wanted to tell him, things that she held back due to certain fears. Time didn't quite permit her to reveal them. That was alright. Time and people move on. "I'll be fine... but can you... give me a hug?" She knew of course... once her body moved, her damaged spine would probably break. His chest heaved inconsistently and his breath was ragged. But still, he nodded, releasing her hand and slipping the other gently under her shoulders, while the other wrapped carefully around her waist, blankets and all. The pain was far away now. She simply smiled, and rested her head on his shoulder when he held her close, the warmth of his body seeping into her cold one. "Sayuri?" she called weakly, with her last few breaths. "You... I've always- look after him... for me...." She didn't know if the mage could hear her, but she prayed with all her heart that the mage heard her when her consciousness finally slipped and her heart stopped beating. |

Sayuri choked again, the tears now slowly streaming down her cheeks. Despite the little time that they spent together, despite that bitter expression that Keira had when she discovered the arrow and Eve, Sayuri was able to forgive her for everything. She felt that Keira probably would have apologized later anyway, knowing her for the short amount time that she had with Sayuri and from her observations from the words of others around her. She couldn't say anything as she listened to Keira speak to Shura. Her eyes shot up in alarm when she asked him to be embraced by Shura, but realized that she could no longer feel pain, causing her to cry even more, but softly still. She looked at Keira as she called her, hearing the last, ragged words that she managed to speak. She hoped that she managed to catch a glimpse of Sayuri's nod before she heard it, the last of the beating of the heart. Her breath hitched before she buried her face in her hands as her tears spilled over, covering her face. Edited by DarkAngel013, May 10 2009, 02:30 AM.

When she spoke no more, and when he couldn't feel her breath that feathered against his neck, his chest tightened painfully. He pulled her closer, as if, somehow, he could keep her inside his heart, never to let go. Don't leave me.... No matter how much he begged, she was already gone. How many more? He didn't care as he kneeled there, holding her tight, he repeated her name over and over in his mind. Keira, Keira, Keira... Keira.... Maybe... if she heard him, she would come back. Maybe... if she could hear him.... Resee had been sitting there, watching, like a ragdoll. She finally moved, crawling towards the mage. Her eyes were still empty, Jegan let her go. "Keira said it's okay, that I shouldn't cry," she said softly, almost child-like as she embraced the mage. "She said everything will be alright. Don't cry." A shudder passed through his body at the sound of Resee's voice, and he finally looked up. Jegan gave him a small almost bitter smile that was meant to be comforting. She meant a lot to me.... She meant so much.... Cradling her limp body in the crook of his arm, he pulled the blankets around her snugly and brushed her hair away from her pallid face. Then he simply, laid her body on the ground. His legs were slightly shaky when he stood up. He stumbled a little when he approached the King and Gerrand. "Take me back..." he said to Gerrand. Shura didn't bother to greet the King. He didn't really care anymore. |

Sayuri felt the embrace, and heard the words. She felt as if something ripped away the essence of what she was as she began to pour out her cries in Resee's chest. She remembered the pain of the losses she had, the guilty feelings mixed in. She didn't know what to do and even if she did, she did know if she could even do it. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I had only healed her sooner, if only I had... if..." she sobbed. She knew, that deep down, that she would eventually get over this feeling of guilt, but it wasn't like the ones she's felt before. A loss of someone's life was always painful, especially if one felt a bit connected. She heard Shura get up and talk to Gerrand, but didn't say anything to it. She felt a bit of time pass before she gently pushed Resee's embrace away, crawling over to Keira's body. She looked to Resee and asked in a hoarse voice, "Would it be all right if I returned her body to normal so that she has no broken bones anymore?" Her eyes gleamed enormously from her tears as she looked to Resee, that threatened to stream down her face again. |

Resee stroked her back mechanically with an oddly calm smile on her face. She was too lost in her own pain to remain in reality. She didn't know if she was strong enough and Resee didn't want to crumble just yet. Not like this. Under the safety of the haze in her mind, she hid, praying that somehow, she could pick up her strength to see Keira and accept that she was gone. To a far away place. While she soothed the mage, she too, sought comfort in the embrace, from a stranger who would shed tears for her sister's death. Somewhere, beneath the fog, she wanted to cry too. At first she fought so hard not to. Now that she sought relief, it was harder than she had imagined. "It's alright... it's alright." That was all she chanted. No apology in the world could bring Keira back. Her hands fell away easily when the mage moved away. And she merely nodded to answer the mage's question. That would be kind... to not see the wounds inflicted on her body. Gerrand obliged Shura's request and laid a hand on his shoulder, before turning away. To where the Scriptors kept the griffin cage. There, in the dark cell, where the smell of rust was distinct, Shura dropped onto the floor in a corner and curled up. He willed his consciousness to sleep, so the demon could consume him mind, body and soul. It would have been much easier if he remained this way. He would remain caged forever. So he wouldn't be able to harm anyone anymore. Black feathers tinted gold spread across his body and the cracking of shifting bones sounded. The griffin lay still on its side, eyes glazed and unseeing, almost as if it was still in a daze. Heaving a sigh, Gerrand let the Researchers guarding the cell to lock the bars and left. |

Softly, Sayuri leaned over Keira's body and pulled away the blankets that covered her body. Gently, as if Keira was still alive, she peeled away the blankets. Since Keira was no longer with them, she could easily heal the wounds without difficulty that she would do with one who was alive. She leaned over Keira's body and gently kissed her on the forehead, again leaving behind a tear-drop symbol and she placed her hand on Keira's chest. The same symbol appeared on Sayuri's forehead as blue sparks of magic began to dance from her fingertips and flooded Keira's body. It was short and brief, not as long as the one with Shura. The sparks stopped after a moment, after some quiet snaps. She kissed Keira's forehead again and pulled with it the symbol. Now, Keira looked like a healthy corpse who didn't have their ribs crushed. She wiped away the remaining tears, feeling suddenly very drained and tired. Tired mostly from all the crying, and also because she had to use her magic in the state of emotional instability causing her to fatigue quicker. After all that crying, she felt the strange need to bathe, to wash away this painful feeling and death that seemed to cling to herself. She crawled back to Resee and held her hands in her's as she spoke softly, "I-I'm sure that... she's now resting peacefully." She gave Resee's hands a squeeze. Somewhere in the back of her mind, she's going to have to remember to be careful with her magic and that tonight was probably the only other time she could help herself. (( I had no idea how to make it so that they'd bathe together. Like a sister kind of thing. )) |
