Gerrand tasted something bitter at the back of his throat. He was lost with what to do. Some part of him knew that he should probably comfort the mage, but he didn't quite know how. He was a man with a basic mind. Dealing with emotional things wasn't what he was good at. So, he merely followed her in silence, pondering over the options he could offer her to take her mind off Keira. He paused suddenly in his steps when he caught sight of the King standing in the middle of the hallway, still as a noble statue, his amber eyes fixed on the mage. She seemed too rapt in her own thoughts to notice the King's presence. There was no contempt in his Lord's eyes, instead, the King appeared thoughtful, reminicent, like how a ruler would look upon the kingdom's history. Ever since Rouren Arcana took over the throne, his adivisors dwindled. The Royal Grounds didn't see much of noble gangs sauntering about anymore. For that, Gerrand was thankful. And he thought the King ruled well without the spoiled nobles anyway. Stooping low, he bowed. "My Lord." The King gave him a nod of acknowledgement. He waited for the mage to notice him first. "Come." And he turned, sweeping past doors to lead them to his study. The room was a quater the size of the Grand Hall. Book shelves that held prachments and thick tomes lined the curved wall. A simple dark wood desk was situated at the center, golden patterns running over intricate carvings. Gerrand waitied dutifully for the mage to enter, before closing the door behind them. He knew that wheneve the King wanted to see someone in his study, it was a private matter. So he stayed just outside the door. |

Sayuri looked up to wonder at why Gerrand suddenly stopped walking when she realized that the King was before her. She mumbled a quick apology for not noticing him earlier and then curtsied slightly. She watched him for a moment as he gestured for her to follow him. Suddenly feeling slightly nervous, she swallowed a bundle of nervousness down and followed on after. When she walked in, she was in awe for a moment at the size of the study, noticing that this King must be one who ruled quite fairly, and then causing her to wonder for a moment why their kingdoms were hateful towards each other... She walked in and she found herself glancing back at the closed door, noting that Gerrand must be waiting outside. She turned to look at the King, wondering what he would want to speak to her about... after all, she was to be going home soon anyway... right? Her puzzlement at the situation showed up on her face for a brief moment before it disappeared as she walked forward a bit and then came to a stop. "Your majesty?" she asked, her voice soft. |

The King stepped behind his desk, lifting a hand to caress the smooth surface. His eyes flickered just briefly over his study before returning to look at the mage again. From the very beginning, he had marvelled at what the world was able to create- such a strange beauty, but she was too innocent to be sent as a representative of her kingdom. At least she appeared to be. He had been watching, of course. Always. And the King didn't see any unlterior motives underneath her actions or words. Did Rania send the mage over to prove their sincerity? He sighed inwardly. "Your escort will arrive tomorrow. Apparently, they were delayed." Then with more care, he chose his words, "Your reckless deed yesterday, Lady Sayuri, could have cost you your life." No, not really. He doubted it, but that was besides the point. The King had glimpsed the brief moment of control she had on the griffin. He wanted to know how she did it. "Why?" Edited by Seiss, May 9 2009, 11:23 PM.

Sayuri felt surprised at the statement, realizing that she was staying for another day here. What was she going to do for the rest of the day to keep herself occupied? Delayed... hmm... whatever it was, it must be apparently difficult to overcome otherwise they'd have no problem in coming, after all, they were the Mages of Rania. Then again, it depends on who they send to escort her home... somewhat. She bowed her head slightly at the comment, remembering with a flinch as the memories reentered her mind. For a moment, she did not answer or reply to anything he said until he spoke up again with a question. She looked up. For a moment, she could not answer again, wondering how she should answer... after all, this was the King she was talking to. A thoughtful expression crossed her face briefly before she replied, "Why... what, your highness?" What was her pertaining to? Was he asking how she controlled the griffin or was he asking why she did it? |

"I am sure you've heard of the demon." He had no doubt that she knew. It was after all, one of Tenarin's past... problems. "Why are you so ready to jump onto the beast's back, when you very well know you could have lost your life?" He was watching her intently now. The way she had asked him a question instead of replying him, was a sign that she knew something, and was hiding it from him. |

Another thoughtful expression crossed her face before she answered softly, "Well, mainly because... I think the griffin has its reasons for how it acts and such and because I care since I feel... connected." Her expression became slightly soft before she continued, "And... it's in my nature to try to help any creature that's... in 'pain', as I've been told." She remembered the image of the claw on the man's chest and wondered who on earth that man could have been, especially the words he said to it too. |

His head tilted just a fraction. Restraint had been grounded into him ever since he was a child. To show emotions beyond a faint flicker was beyond him. He had to admit, though, that he knew little of what the Rania mages were capable of. It was true that he had an efficient group of Researchers to help uncover the secrets of mana. But what the original can truly do, always had unexpected surprises. So... the mage speaks to magical beasts? "Take a seat, Lady Sayuri. I am very interested in what you speak of. There is more, I believe. Elaborate." More command than a request. |

Sayuri blinked for a moment before obeying the request-that-sounds-like-a-command, sitting down in the comfy chair before her. "Yes, your highness," she said softly before she "elaborated" on what he was asking of her. "Hmm... I guess, whenever I'm especially near a magical creature like the griffin, I feel their emotions and pain... well, somewhat. I can't feel the animals that over in my kingdom because I'm too far, but... I guess when I'm close enough, I can feel them. I don't know the limits of how far it can go though." |

The mage was repeating herself. Perhaps he should have been more specific. "No. Can you control the beast? I can very well imagine what pain it must have gone through with that burning stoke pressed to its chest. I don't need to know that. What I need to know is how can the beast be controlled." This could free Shura. He needed to know. |

Her expression darkened slightly before she continued. "No, I cannot control the griffin, that would be breaking the law the mages have made. But I can tame them, put them to the point where they have can listen. Most often though, I can calm the creatures so that their minds are open to logical responses, since all creatures are smart enough to respond to us... I can control it enough, but it's not the same as completely controlling it, but that would require a 'contract'." She paused briefly before she spoke again, her eyes sharp, "I'm sorry if I come off as rude, your highness, but I probably would have gotten the griffin under control if it weren't for the green robed man suddenly disrupting the moment I was trying to communicate with the griffin, even calming it to the point where it would not attack."
