Lies. Lies, lies, lies. The griffin threw his head to her direction and snarled at the fast moving figure of the mage, shrieking, maddened eyes warning her to back off.

Keira had an extremely close bush, and she knew it wasn't over. The claw over her body increased its pressure and she was rendered paralyzed, gasping and shuddering from the pain. She grasped a curved talon, possessing only enough strength to hold it tight. Her lungs burned and she felt something press painfully into it.

Voices... voices in its head.... The griffin shook its hea violently, hissing and turned much more violent. Lies. You never wanted me! Lies! Then with an anger driven impulse, the claw that rested on Keira's body bore heavily down. Several more cracks sounded and Keira tensed for just a split second, before her body turned limp.

With its current prey now useless, the griffin turned towards imminent threat- the mage. It launched itself at her with impossible speed in a blur of black and gold. Its claws were outstretched, aiming for her chest, hooked beak stretched wide to snap at her head.

"I'm not lying!" she shouted, already dangerously close to the griffin. She was near tears and this was pulling her apart.

Her eyes grew wide when she saw what was happening to Keira and couldn't help but utter a whimper as she helplessly watched. "I never lied to you!" she shouted again, her voice beginning to become hoarse. "And I will continue to not lie to you!" She let out a yelp as she watched in the griffin's anger as she heard the cracks until Keira became limp.

I can still save her... I can... Her thoughts paused when she realized. How can I? She never even trusted me from the beginning nor did anyone else!

Immediately, her body responded to the griffin's fast movement and replied with her own. Her silver staff appeared out of nowhere as her quick movement made her jump to the side to avoid the oncoming attack.

"I don't want to hurt you!" she said with pain in her eyes. "Why are you doing this?!" With tears rolling down her face, she became focused, clearly preparing herself. "Please stop, I don't want to hurt you!"

She drew the staff around her expertly as she prepared herself for combat against a magical being, her stance prepared for anything that the griffin might come at her way.

It slammed heavily onto the hard ground, where the mage once stood and stumbled carelessly to its feet, indifferent to the bruising impact. The Rune Knights were dangerously close. They scrambled to their feet and drew their weapons, muttering curses under their breaths.

However, from the very beginning, the Rune Knights never stood a chance. The griffin swept swiftly amongst them, tearing anything its claws could reach. Blood curdling cries filled the courtyard that followed the fall of three men. One swipe of its claw had managed to catch the armours of two. WIith a swipe, it ripped metal, skin and flesh apart. Another was knocked off his feet and later crushed under the griffin's foot. The remaining seven Knights could utter no more than a defeated moan for their fallen comrades. They prepared themselves and charged simultaneously, intending to trap the demon within the tips of their blades.

The mage's words were lost on the griffin's heavily distorted mind. It repeated the word- lies, over and over like a devil's mantra. You don't want me... I am not wanted, not wanted, not wanted. Lies, lies, lies, lies. I saw... I saw... It shrieked at the Knights, glowering at the closing circle of swords. Then with a powerful down beat of its extensive wings, one man was knocked onto the ground while its massive feathered body shot into the air. It would have been a majestic sight, if it weren't for the nature behind the griffin's actions.

The Knights looked up, expecting it to escape. But it was not to be. The griffin plummetted towards one of them- claws outstretched. A head snapped from a spine....

"Fools! Stand down!" the man in green robes and silver hair combed back shouted from the courtyard stairs. He had a long staff of iron in one hand, with its tip glowing in a hot bright orange.

In an instant, as if the beast recognized the man, it threw open its wings and screeched another ear-splitting cry. While the rest fell to their knees, he remained standing tall, unaffected. The king too had arrived and he was immune to the griffin's shriek as well.

Sayuri could do not stop what she was seeing and she almost screamed as she heard the echo of their snapping and cracking from the collisions of the griffins hits against the Rune Knights. She watched helplessly as the blood and flesh was torn, leaving only seven left.

"I do, I do, I DO!" she shouted, her voice at the loudest to try to drown out the repeated words she was hearing inside her head. She watched the griffin take flight before taking a dive towards the Rune Knights and one of them died as she heard the horrible snap.

She didn't hear the words from the green robed male who had arrived at the scene nor did she realize that the king was here as well. Her magic again protected her from the screech and taking that moment, she made herself disappear from her spot and landed on the griffin's back as her arms wrapped themselves around its neck.

Instantly, the feeling of being soothed touched the griffin, like she had when she had touched Shura the day before. The touch washed away any pain or bad emotions that the griffin might have had. The emotions hidden behind them were sad and heartbroken...

I saw... I saw... I saw them tear it out....

Alarmed by the sudden weight on its back, it twisted its neck around, ready to snap at whatever it was. A rush of something calming, however, made it freeze, confused by the such a warm, comforting embrace amidst the its blood-thirsty rage. Where were the blades and the smouldering iron?

For a brief moment, the soothing flow of magic brought some sanity back. The veil of intense hatred lifted from its mind and it blinked at her, unsure of what to do, as if it had lost a purpose. Its harsh breathing slowed steadily, while its eyes shone, for a long time in many years, with something akin to curiousity. It stared at her for a long while, unable to understand what was happening, or why a human would ride him. Then the familiar aura of the girl, ignited the darkest recesses of it memories.... Not him... not him... who are you?

Something hot suddenly plunged into the black, waxen plummage of his chest. It seared his skin and made him shriek in pain. Tearing itself from the girl, the griffin retreated a few steps from the red hot iron and snarled at the green robed man. Recognition crossed its eyes and it stared in disbelief at the silver-haired man. You! The griffin hissed menacingly, head lowered as the feathers on its neck rose threateningly. Give it back to him! Give him back to me! It lunged with everything it had murderously towards the man- beak, claws and all.

Unfortunately, the Inscriptor was experienced and prepared, while the griffin was driven by blind rage. He thrust the end of the iron staff skillfully up the griffin's chest and shoved the burning tip towards its heart.

Whatever clear thought the griffin had just a moment ago vanished and the craze in its eyes returned. It clawd at the iron staff, successfully ripping the weapon off the Inscriptor's hand. With a hoarse, weakened screech, it bucked in an attempt to throw the mage off its back. Trickery! You tricked me! It kicked off the ground and surged powerfully up into the sky, spiralling brutally down and up again to shake off the mage.

"I'm here for you, I'll never betray you," she whispered, hugging tightly to the griffin, hoping nothing could hurt it more; she pushed that image into the griffin's mind. Her tears were mixed in into its feathers, feeling the warmth of the beast touch her face as she began to feel the emotions of curiousity from the griffin.

"I am Sayuri, a friend," she whispered with a soft smile at the griffin as it looked her way as it asked who she was. She would have stroked its feathers were it not for the fact she was embracing the griffin.

However, the moment of peace disappeared as she screamed as she felt the same pain that the griffin felt. She could feel the heat in her chest, her grip all the more stronger as her force of will was forcing her to stay on its back. For a bewildered moment, she wondered who it meant by "give him back to me!" to the griffin.

"NO! STOP, DON'T HURT HIM!" she shouted angrily, "You'll only make it worse!" Just when she thought she almost calmed it down, the green robed man decided to pierce an iron at the griffin's chest as she felt it again, but this time, she did not let out a single sound leave her lips

"I didn't! They did, THEY DID!" she shouted to the griffin, her grip stronger still as she held on tightly through sheer force of willpower to stay on the griffin. With sharp focus, she pressed herself against the griffin and began to flood it with the touch of relief. No matter how hard it bucked, she tried her best to stay on it, trying to relieve the fury that it felt.

"I'm here, I'm here, no one else!" she exclaimed through the difficulties of trying to stay on. Going up and down and up again as the griffin tried to shake her off seemed hard for her to hold on, but something told her that if she let go, she will only suffer more and will probably regret it. She shut her eyes tight, trying to comfort the fury and hatred that was in the griffin as she flooded it with the feeling of warmth again.

"Don't land," she muttered as she tried to hold on. "Just stay afloat..." She waited while holding on, her determined eyes hoping to try to soothe and comfort the beast. If she could only stop the green robed man from burning the griffin, she might be able to make it so that the griffin would obey her. She'll never tell anyone (probably besides Jegan) about the pain that she feels when the griffin gets hurt and she couldn't bear it if she felt it repeatively.

But she knows for sure now, that this is the same griffin that was in her dreams when she first arrived here.

"Is the burn deep enough, Aurus?" the Tenarin King asked, his eyes fixed on the beast blitzing in the air.

"Yes, Your Highness. Rest assured that he will not escape." The Inscriptor came forth with his staff and with the burning tip pointed on the hard ground, he drew a circle swiftly, scratching runes within the circumference. He pulled out a leather pouch and withdrew a small vial of blood. In a flick of his wrist, he threw into the circle. The glass shattered, spilling the red fluid onto the runes.

The King nodded listlessly, anxious underneath his emotionless cover. Ten more Rune Knights arrived, this time, armed with bows and arrows. Under Aurus's instruction, they took their positions several feet from the circle and around it. With a nod of confirmation from the King himself, they let loose powerful volleys up the sky.

It recognized the soothing flow of magic- as an echantment that tricked it before. The griffin remained resolute in its rage, weaving twisting circles to rid of the load on its back. Furious, it bowed its head and with its claws, reached over its shoulders in an attempt to rip the mage off.

Something whistled past its head and its golden eyes widened when it saw an entire rain of arrows surge upward and towards it. It folded its wings and twisted painfully away from the wave of arrows, only swerving and spiraling a second later to avoid the second surge. Enraged, the griffin shrieked and spun around for a dive, wings tucked against its sides while its feathered tail lashed about to make sudden directional change to avoid the arrows.

When the circle of runes came into view, a powerful suffocating field engulfed the beast. It squawked helplessly, when the heavy pull of something more than gravity sucked it towards the circle's centre. The dive turned into an accelerating fall. The griffin slammed chest first before its entrire form rammed onto the ground. a few black feathers tinted with gold floated down around its still bulk. It lay there on its side, surrounded by bloody runes, lifeless as a corpse, golden eyes half open and glassy.

Give it back to him... him... to me....

With vague awareness, she realized what was about to happen as her mind began to the process of watching the events before her. Although she was already holding on tightly, when something such as blood or a circle appears, she has forced herself to learn of it to learn and then hope that she could become to be able to understand it. This was something that most likely will want to learn about as it seems to be connected to this griffin.

"Please, I'm trying to help you!" she said to the griffin, but realized from the huge amount of resolute anger that the soothing magic would not work again. She almost let go had she not realized that she heard the sound of the arrows being sent through the air. She realized that the king or the green robed man must have commanded...

Before she could say anything, let alone do anything, the griffin began its movements away from the flying arrows. The jerky movements made her hold on tighter, hoping that nothing could...

She watched with horror as she felt the runes hit the griffin's body and then the sudden pull. She held on as tightly as she could, hoping that nothing bad could...

She had blacked out for a moment from the collision, and had only woken up when she heard the thoughts from the griffin... again, the same as it had in the beginning. Despite the fact that she felt the pain in her body from the griffin's injuries, she stumbled forward until she stood before its face, the eyes half open.

She walked over until she collapsed before the griffin, as she began to mindlessly stroke its feathers. Her touch again relieved the feeling of pain that it felt, but it only halved the pain that it could bear. She coughed, feeling the pressure and pain from the possibly broken ribs of the griffin.

"Who...? Who do you want them to give back to you?" she whispered, her voice only soft enough so that it reached the griffin. Her emotions were ruined and completely wrecked. Her body felt exhausted and yet she still had the energy to cry. However, it was silent as the tears rolled down her face, only the griffin's half open eyes could see. She buried her face in the griffin's feathers until she could probably feel its skin, where she placed a kiss on the griffin. From her face wiping along the feathers, it wiped clean of her tear-stained face and as she pulled away, it left the same symbol that was on her forehead when she healed Shura; a tear-drop shaped symbol that glowed gently before fading as the tiny spark of magic was almost nothing in comparison to anything else.

With the symbol fading, it left behind the feelings of her worry, her misery, and her sadness to see the griffin this way. It also left behind a slight charm, and because of Sayuri's weakened state, the magic of course would not work fully. The charm was that the griffin would be able to, hopefully, come its senses by sorting out the emotions so that it could focus on one at a time and then being able to figure out slowly what it has lost. It also left the firm feeling that she will try her best to help the griffin and that she was not the enemy.

Of course, she did not know that this was Shura himself.

"Please keep yourself safe," she whispered, her head starting to spin. Her breathing was already becoming ragged as she tried to breathe properly but because of the connection she felt to the griffin, she clutched at her chest where the griffin had landed so painfully. It was suffocating and before she knew it, she blacked out, collapsing against the griffin's feathered head.

~~~
Eve fluttered nearby, able to watch everything but remained resolutely out of sight. Her eyes narrowed slightly as she watched everything, frightened for the mage. Her presence was always like that of a normal bird and after Lady Sayuri had spoken to her, Eve had returned to her normal size in her bird form, so she no longer looked out of place amongst the other birds.
Why... so much anger, pain, and tears, Eve thought as she watched sadly. So many emotions in one week and yet Sayuri was able to bear it... and tonight is the night of the Full Moon...
She watched and waited for any further movements from the King and the man in the green robes, wondering what they were going to do with the now lifeless-like griffin and the unconscious mage that he had said that he would send home as she rested against the griffin's head.
Eve would have chuckled were it not for the fact that she were a bird. Sayuri looked comparably very small to the griffin, almost like a red rose in a field of gold and black feathers...
"We have a foolish, mage, My Lordship," Aurus commented dryly.
The King merely gave a short hum of careless agreement. "Secure the demon, Aurus."
"Yes, My Lord." The Inscriptor bowed and hailed several Knights to help him move the mammoth-size beast. They wound thick ropes around the griffin's feet and dragged its body away, to where the Inscriptor was leading them.
One Rune Knight had picked up the unconscious mage in his arms, cradling her small body against his broad, armoured chest. He was a brawny man, tanned, and was a good 3 foot taller than the King himself. Like most Tenarin, he had short hair and eyes of black ink. "What of the mage, My Lord?" he asked with a deep, strong voice that rumbled in his chest. While his height may be intimidating, he had a warm expression on his angular face that was not too wide, but enough to match his brawn.
"Healer." The King's eyes wandered from one torn body to another, his distraught for his fallen men hidden well underneath his stern mask. Blood was everywhere, pooling under one shreded body, running in small rivulets into the cracked stone floor. He watched and it seemed almost painful- his Knights lifting their comrades slowly, gently, as if the bodies were still alive. Was it right for him to keep Shura alive? The man had asked him for a death penalty long ago... yet he chose to spare him. He believed... the demon should be overcome, but not at the expense of Shura's life. But it appears that the cost of allowing the demon to live was much too high.
More than a decade ago, Tenarin's people were under the demon's mercy. Just a moment ago... if the griffin had escaped, another massacre would soon follow.
Nodding, the Rune Knight left to follow his orders.
---------
He brought the blankets himself- piles of them and laid them over the female Knight's broken body. Her breathing was just slightly stronger, steadier, but it was feeble like a withered leaf swaying in the wind. It was going to fall soon, but when, no one really knows. The best Royal healers had already said that it was too late. Her body was too damaged to salvage. They had offered to give her a quick end too, but she declined.
The late evening air was cold and the Tenarin King could only imagine what freezing temperature she had to endure. But at least, she was still able to sleep. He watched her pale face for a moment longer before raising his eyes to see yet another Knight, seated by the fallen's side, just staring as if she had lost her soul. They looked so similar....
Then wordlessly, he rose and turned to leave.
"Thank you, Your Highness," Jegan's quiet voice sounded almost harsh in the silent courtyard.
Too tired to say anymore, the King waved a hand half-heartedly, telling him that it was unnecessary.
Jegan had risen to his feet earlier when the King did, but it was too dark and he was under the shadow of a tree. They had been in the courtyard for hours now, and he, just keeping Resee company. He knew, that the loss he felt was nothing compared to her acute grief. He knew as well, that she was exhausted and needed sleep. But he couldn't possibly tell her to leave Keira in the cold at night.
Heaving a soft sigh, he sat back down and shifted close. Gently, he slipped an arm around her shoulders and pulled her to rest against his chest. "Sleep. I'll wake you if she comes around."
She didn't protest. She didn't have any more strength left to keep her eyes open. They felt so heavy... heavier than she had ever felt before....
-----
Who...? Who do you want them to give back to you?
The mage's words echoed in its foggy, sluggish mind. Repeating... over and over....
He remembered the large hand of a man... stroking the rich feathers of his mane, and he remembered... the sound of his voice, soothing, calming, encouraging... loving. He remembered a time... when the man took his claw... and pressed it against his human chest, like a promise of timeless happiness....
Him... give it back to him.... Him... to me.... Come back... come... back.
A gulf of lonesome darkness gave his tattered heart an empty dream.
Sayuri took in what she saw and immediately wondered who that man was. It seemed that this man must have been an extremely important person to the griffin, otherwise she wouldn't be able to feel the huge amount of emotions that came from the memory that were powerful.
And that was before seconds of which she would black out... or it was in her dream, she didn't know or could not tell them apart. Vaguely, she could feel someone lift her up but that was it. Her chest no longer hurt but her wound on her arm reopened, causing the blood to bleed through the wrapped bandage made by Shura.
~~~

Sayuri slept for a long time, unsure of what was going on or what she was really thinking. She kept watching the same scene over and over again of Keira's body being crushed and then going limp and she was completely powerless to do anything at all. She knew that there was a counter-magic set up, so that even if she tried to heal, it'd only end up hitting back at herself.

She kept watching over and over again all of those images she had just seen, trying to scream and run and to stop it, only to find that she could not get any closer no matter how fast she ran.

She didn't know how long she slept for, just knowing that it felt like an eternity. When she opened her eyes, she found that she felt unusually hot and realized that she still wore her gown. Her arm had been bandaged again and she was in her room.

For a moment, she almost forgot the reason why she was in her room before everything hit her head again as the memories washed over her.

"No!" she gasped, her voice hoarse from the shouting earlier at the griffin. She held her hands to her face, hiding away any tears that ran free. Her hair covered it for her so she didn't really have to worry.
