Name: Rena

Roleplaying Experience: Two years, possibly more, possibly less...

Preferred Roleplay Style: Fantasy, mostly.

Roleplaying Sample:I looked both ways before hurriedly crossing the street, no I was not checking for traffic, I was checking for Zaddok. It simply would not due to get caught right now--we had come so close to the rebel "safehouse." (How safe could it be? All mages are in danger, no matter where they are or who is there with them.)

Lily stumbled on behind me. She was too young for this, too young for any of it--five is too young for so many things, this most of all.

"Don't worry, we're almost there, almost there," I muttered, hoping she would believe it when I did not. We were close, that much was true, but she would have to worry for the rest of her life.

As we rounded a corner--how many more to go? Wasn't it only one more turn?--I heard footsteps that were not ours. Too heavy--too much like a soldier's for comfort. They seemed to be coming closer. I pressed on still faster. Chances were good that Lily would collapse, even better that we'd be caught.

I've beaten chances before. It hasn't happened much, but it has happened.

Last corner. I could see the door. I was so focused on reaching it that I forgot to stop in time to knock as I normally was--I crashed into it instead. No doubt the sentry was busily having a panic attack on the other side of the door.

"It's Julianna," I whispered quickly into the tiny hole that allowed me to be heard inside the room--the door would have blocked my voice out. Enchanted steel tends to have that effect. "I've got a charge--take her, now! I have to get out of here."

A pause. My heart raced. If they waited too long--

A hand reached out and grabbed the girl, who let out a quickly-stifled squeak. I recognized the tattoos on his arm--Spacer. She was safe.

I turned and sprinted back toward my home, all too aware of the fact that the footsteps were getting louder, despite my increase in speed. This was getting to be a problem--I have been getting the mages to the rebels for over a year, but ever since last month or so, the security in my area has been increasing. Of course, it may have been due to the fact that Grant, a neighbor of mine, called the Zaddok on me after I helped a particularly loud mage. They were awfully curious about why I was panting and so very out of breath--I told them I went for a run every night. (True enough--although they tended to always result in another mage being delivered to Spacer and the rest.)

One final turn and I would be free yet again. Just one tu--

I screeched to a halt. A line of soldiers stood halfway along the street, directly in front of my house. Grant stood by their leader, smirking. I turned and saw that I couldn't run back the other way--the soldiers that had been chasing me were now blocking my only escape route.

"Yes?" I asked, quite politely in my opinion. The Zaddok officer, however, scowled.

"You are now under investigation. A resident of this town," he said, nodding toward Grant (whose smirk grew), "has accused you of aiding mages in escape. Are you aware that this is a serious offense?"

"Yes, but--"

"Very well then. We will now present the evidence." He held up a rather official looking document. I shuddered slightly--it looked rather long. I listened as he named some of the mages I had helped recently--Peter, Rel, Em, even Lily--and spoke of my "suspicious appearance" during the last inspection the Zaddok had made.

"As I said before," I said when he stopped, "I was training. I do not know what Grant told you, but--"

"Then why is it that you stink of magic?" he accused.

"What? That's ridiculous. Magic has no scent--"

"You know enough about magic to know that it doesn't smell? Curious."

"That's ridiculous. There are things that are common knowledge. For instance, everyone knows that certain gases are poisonous, but--"

"And she brings up poison as a defense. Very interesting."

"Oh, I could have used anything. Grant just--"

"Why is it that my soldiers heard multiple sets of footsteps when they began following you earlier this evening?"

I froze. "That would be... Because... I was running with a friend," I replied haltingly.

"Oh? And would this friend be able to prove that?" No answer from me. "Well, I think this solves the problem. You have obviously been assisting the mages. Now, your neighbor has also accused you of being able to preform magic--"

"What? No, I--" I knew my own abilities. I may have been helping the mages, but I was definitely not one of them.

"Panic when accused of being a mage. Almost like she was trying to cover up the truth, wasn't it?"

"Now, listen here," I said, heart racing. I knew the law--if it were "proven" that I was a mage, I would be executed without trial. "Anyone would panic if they were accused of something like that--"

"And that is just what a mage would say," the official said with a smirk. "Men? Take her."

"But I just--" I forgot what I was going to say next, if anything at all. I had been in trouble before, but it had never gotten this bad. I had never been this panicked before...

...I had never done magic before. My whole house--everything in it, all of the walls, everything--vanished. I turned to look at it, shocked. "But... I'm not a..." The sound of swords being unsheathed brought me to my senses.

I ran.

I went straight through the place where my home had been. I didn't have anything with me--no food, no money, nothing but the clothes on my back--but I did have my strength, my speed. I was gone before they had the chance to reform their ranks, nearly out of sight before they began to chase me.

It was almost dawn when I finally stopped running. I was dead tired, but could no longer hear the men. I looked down at my hands, stunned. Blue sparks were springing out of my fingertips.

I put my head in my hands. A mage, a fugitive, a person without a home or a future. I had never been any of these things before, and now I was all of them. Could things be any worse?
"Also, oftentimes, our worst memories are the ones that tend to stand out most vividly."

"All of the wasted time
The hours that were left behind
The answers that we'll never find
They don't mean a thing tonight"
