The Redneck, the Cynic, the Nerd, and the Hopeless Romantic

Standing nearby Roland waited for the others to get food before he himself put any on a plate. He wasn't much of a heavy eater, he ate only what he liked and until he was full and then he quit. It was his way, he didn't ever find any reason to eat more than was necessary to fill his stomach. He could still eat a rather large amount of food, but he never ate with the abandon that others seemed to think was necessary to eat.

When the question was posed to him he simply looked at the two of them for a moment. Today had certainly been more entertaining that many of his days as a run away. He didn't want it to look like he wasn't trying to do the whole school thing.
" Yes I"ll be coming back again tomorrow. Although I don't intend to go to Trade school, honestly I'll die first. I do intend to attend school for a little bit, and I enjoy your company. Despite the fact that so far my company seems to have inflicted some rather bad time on the two of you. I can always leave if you see it to be necessary."
"I mourn that which may have been but will never be."

Alden finished half of his third plate and shoved it to the side, "Glad to see we all had some fun despite the circumstances. What class do you guys have next? I've got Algorithms with Branch."
Never doubt my weaseling abilities, Shadowhunter, for they are epic and memorable in their scope.

The dark-haired male gazed around the place called the cafeteria, wondering if one of interest would appear. He sighed softly as he got up to go into the lunch line, wondering what they had for lunch today. As he got in line, he noticed how some students picked whichever food that interested them and as he got his tray, he decided that he should pick the foods that he would most likely enjoy.

Ryuu picked up foods that were healthy to eat and picking up a bag of caramel popcorn, placing it next to his tray of food. A companion from earlier prodded him, saying, "Come on, hurry up Ryuu! I wanna eat!"

"Alright, alright, I'm getting out of line," Ryuu said with a smile as he headed over to a small group of people he hung out with. As he walked over to the group, he walked over with a gentle grace, almost similar to that of a small feline. He looked up as a friend waved him over, skating over on his skateboard. Ryuu rolled his eyes. "Isaac, if you're going to brag that you're a much better skater than I am, please do it when I'm not about to eat my lunch so I don't barf."

"Ha ha, very funny Ryuu," Isaac said sarcastically, rolling his eyes as well. "You're decent, from what you've been learning recently... and you would be a whole lot better if you didn't play your music."

Ryuu shrugged as he walked to his place at the table, where the girl with red hair named Ruby scooted over to make room for Isaac. "My music is my life you moron," Ryuu muttered as he began to chew on his sandwich.

"And skateboarding is mine," Isaac said with a laugh. "Then again, you like learning almost about everything..." Then he paused for a moment. "If you weren't so busy with music, I'd bet you'd be buried in sports, which you do... sometimes when you want to get your frustrations out." Then he shrugged as Ruby hit him hard in the arm. "Ow! What the heck was that for?"

"That was for making fun of Ryuu's music playing abilities and... more or less his athletic ability," Ruby said with a glare at Isaac. "He's just focused more on his music than sports."

"Guys, just shut up about Ryuu and go talk about someone else more interesting, alright?" a guy named James said with an exasperated breath. Ryuu mouthed a small thanks to his friend whom had nodded back in return. James had then turned to talking to Ruby, about something about one of their classes that they have and he turned away, looking around the cafeteria for anything that might perk his interest in or anyone that seemed interesting to talk to.

Finishing up the rest of his lunch, he wondered what else could catch his interest. Then, his fingers twitched a moment as a moment of inspiration of music floated through his mind. Quickly, he pulled out blank music sheets and began to jot down small music notes onto the sheet.

Ramiele laughed as she ate. Hers was one of the loudest tables in the cafeteria. Most of the noise was laughter—her friends always knew how to make each other laugh, and very rarely did they let even one opportunity to do so slip by. She hummed to herself as the conversation continued, still listening yet allowing her mind to wander. She pulled a notebook out of her bag and scrawled a few words down with the pencil she had conveniently placed in her hair. She put it back when she was done. The hairdo, which consisted of a planned chaos of pins, should really have looked ridiculous, but somehow worked with her face and the rest of her outfit.

One of her friends noticed her writing. “New song?” she asked with a smile.

“No,” she replied, shaking her head, “I’m afraid not. Wish it was, though—it’s been a while. Just a quote from a book I remembered. It’s worth staying remembered, so.”

“You’ll sing for us again soon, though, won’t you?” her friend persisted. “You’ve got a great voice. I’m sure I’m not the only one who misses it.”

“Hopefully,” Ramiele said. “Hopefully.”

Ryuu sighed gently, wondering when would be a good moment to go play his music... or even anything at all. His fingers itched to try out what he had written on the paper, the notes seemingly to dance before him as if they knew what he did not.

"Guys, I'm going to go outside for awhile; a breathe for fresh air," he said as he got up and throw away his food from the tray as he placed it on top. "I'll see you guys later in class."

He got around the table and headed out into the hall, the doors behind him muffled the loud noise of the people talking and he breathed a sigh of relief, the music in his head already playing softly as he headed towards the music room that was nearby the cafeteria. He made sure his bag was devoid of any sounds that he could possibly make, but then gave up the idea as soon as he realized that it was pointless. After all, he was going to play on the grand piano that was inside the music room, the white sleek skin and polished ivory keys that were just waiting for him to come and caress them.

He sat down on the bench, and then placed his bag nearby the bench. He placed his score sheet onto the holder and he closed his eyes as he took a deep breath as he lifted his hands above the keys, poised to play.

His fingers hit the keys and the music immediately began to fill the room, its soft melody resonating off the walls. The clarity in his music that was being played was beautiful as it was gentle, as if heavenly angels had descended from heaven and was there playing with him. If someone in the cafeteria listened hard enough, they could hear the faint music that was echoing through the halls.

"Hey, do you guys hear that?" Isaac asked, his eye-brow raising an inch as he looked around.

"What are you talking about?" Ruby asked as she seemed skeptical. "I don't hear anything but the loud voices of the people in this room."

"I could have sworn I heard Ryuu's piano playing," he said as he turned back to face his friends, wondering if he had been hallucinating that sound.

"That's ridiculous; he would've told us he was going to the music room," she said as she laughed. "Are you all right, Isaac? Maybe one of your falls had hit your head too hard earlier or something."

"I'm fine," he grumbled as he pushed her hand away.

Ryuu's music was too soft for Isaac to fully appreciate it... after all, Isaac would much rather prefer rock or hard rock music instead of the soft melody that he was playing.

Ramiele excused herself from the table once she finished her lunch. The others tried to make her stay for a while, but there was really no need to. Lunch would be over soon anyway, and she often left earlier than the rest to finish up work. It was the excuse she used today—in reality, she just wanted to go and see if she could work out a new song after all. She walked to the music room, still humming as she went.

As she approached, she was surprised to realize that there was already music coming from the room. She paused outside the door, listening. Before she really noticed, Ramiele found herself mentally writing lyrics. She pushed the door open a crack, letting the music come to her hears without the wood blocking it. She hoped whoever was playing wouldn’t stop, at least not for a while. Apart from being beautiful on its own, it was also her first inspiration in weeks.

Ryuu opened his eyes a small crack as he noticed that his music was slowly coming to an end. The music then took a dramatic turn as it began to speed up, ending with a very strong note as the ringing of the last key still strummed throughout the room.

He looked up, and noticed that the door opened a crack when he had been pretty sure that he had closed it shut.

"Whoever is by the door, do come in, I don't bite," he said with a smile. He wondered if he should feel embarrassed that someone had been listening in onto the music that he had hoped to be kept private. He stood up and took long strides and opened the door, surprised to find himself looking at a petite small female. "Why don't you come in?" gesturing his arm in a welcome into the music room.

He turned and walked back to the piano, pulling out a new and clean sheet of music sheets to write new notes on. He sat back down on the bench and looked back up at the female with a curious expression, "Why were you eavesdropping on my playing?"

She smiled sheepishly as she stepped into the room. She leaned back against the wall before answering his question. “Well, firstly, because it was good,” she said with a shrug. “More importantly, kind of, was that I was writing—oh!” she broke off as she realized that she was already forgetting the words. She grabbed the notebook out of her bag and quickly wrote what she could. She definitely had a chorus there, and she could write the song as her own once she got back to her room. There she would be able to concentrate.

Ramiele looked back at the musician’s face and seemed to remember that she had been in the middle of saying something when she had so rudely stopped. “Sorry about that,” she continued, a flush creeping up her neck. “Like I was saying, I was writing something. A song, actually. It happens to be that your music can inspire mine. Sorry about listening in like that, too—I didn’t want you to stop.”

He smiled again, almost as if he was mischievous about thinking about something. He watched as she stopped in the middle of her talking, suddenly taking out a notebook and writing down some things that seemed to be important to her and he wondered what it could be. He has never seen a girl write that quickly in such haste in a long time.

He could not help but smile again when he saw the flush touching her neck. "Ah, a song? To be honest, I wasn't expecting anyone to listen to it and give a person inspiration," he said as he looked back down on the ivory keys and glossy black middle keys. His fingers touched it softly, not pressing down to make a single note. "I guess it's understandable that you didn't want me to stop if you were in the middle of your muse... Ah, how rude of me."

He got up again and walked over to the female, standing a bit of ways away from her so he would not tower over her. "I'm Ryuu Storm, a third year, and you are?" he asked as he walked closer to her to take out his hand for a handshake. He wondered how she would react to his words, interested in what kind of lyrics did she write for the song that he had just been playing.

"Don't you dare leave, Roland! I didn't realise how nice it was to have people to talk to. I promise to try and not be so boring in the future. I'm just not used to talking is all. I'm not sure where I want to go yet. All I really want to do is write stories, but fat chance of that."

"What class do you guys have next? I've got Algorithms with Branch."

"I have Music Theory." She stuck out her tongue to show her disapproval. "I doubt I'll ever have a need for it. I'm just not musically inclined." Her attention was drawn to the center of the cafeteria, and the raucous laughter. She could never sit out there in the limelight. It was too exposed. Her eyes followed Ryuu for a moment, but she turned away before anyone caught her staring. Not that he had ever even looked her way, but his music was beautiful.

Her attention turned back to her friends, "Actually, we should get moving if we don't want to be late twice in one day." She suddenly remembered she would need to go back to her room for the books. "Are you coming too Roland? What's your next class?"
