Many pros have problems putting, and when they do they will stop at nothing to get it all back on track. Some will resort to strange grips that work well for a while. You have the long putters, three ball putterheads, and belly putters.

All of this equipment and change of technique usually provides temporary relief for the initial problem, but how many times do these players eventually go back to what they were using before the changes?

The root problem for anyone who suffers from putting woes is they forget how easy putting really is and try to learn and use a technically perfect stroke with discount golf clubs. The pros have time to practice and make just about anything work. The average guy has no such luxury.

A person of average skill should be able to take any putter, with any grip and stance, and roll a white ball on the line they choose and at the proper speed. The only two things that matter in putting are line and speed.

The tours are proof enough that there is no physical advantage to using any given piece of equipment, or whatever grip you can imagine. Good putters never give technique a thought. They are totally focused on the line and speed of the putt with discount golf clubs.

The farther away from technical thoughts you can get, the better you will putt. If you are worrying about fanning your club face open on the backstroke, I hope you have several hours a day to practice.

Putting really is easy. Thinking technically only makes putting more difficult. There are only two things that matter. Line and speed. It doesn't matter how you do it.
