By far the hardest shot in golf is the straight shot. That is when the ball starts straight and stays straight. To hit a straight shot you need to have and "in to in" swing path with a square club face at impact. It is the "in to in" swing path that is so difficult to master in order to be able to hit a straight shot. There are 5 tips on how to hit the ball straighter you need to get right are: 1. Grip. By far the most common error and cause of the greatest number of non desirable shots is the grip. Holding the rbz irons incorrectly is human nature because we (humans) tend to incline towards the use of strength. Do not deviate from what nature has intended. When a players arms hang comfortably and naturally the hands are in a normal and relaxed position. This represents the basis of a sound grip. The hands should work together - naturally and without undue effort. 2. Alignment. Establishing the correct target line is a pre-requisite for any good golf shot. Remember that your "toe line" - the line running from your right big toe to your left big toe (RH golfers) and beyond to infinity should be parallel to the ball to target line. What does that mean? Well it means do not point your toe line to the target - it should be left of target because it is the ball you are hitting towards the target not your big toe! And whilst on alignment your shoulders should be aligned along the same line as your toes. 3. Ball Position. There is so much confusion about ball position. We are not all professionals. Professionals do this for a living and they hit thousands of golf balls a day. They are like a finely tuned sports car and for them minor adjustments are noticeable but not for US. For all normal golf swings with taylormade rbz irons keeping the ball in the center or left of center for all your irons is adequate, whilst woods should be played off the inside left foot. That's it. Don't get any more complicated till you are down to a very low handicap. 4. Distance From The Ball at Address. Take your club in your left hand and hold the club straight out in front of you at waist height horizontally. Now with your free hand measure one full hand span from the butt of the club to your belt buckle. Hold it right there and NEVER deviate from that distance again. I actually want you to stand there for a while so that you get the feeling of exactly how far your body should be from the club. Now without moving anything, except your spine, tilt forward from the waist until the club head sits on the ground. Your spine will now be at 45 degrees to the vertical and your taylormade rbz irons, if you haven't moved anything else, will be one hand span away from your belt buckle. Amazingly the club will also be directly under your eyes! Flex your legs slightly so that you can just see your shoe laces and you are in the correct position and the correct distance from the ball. 5. Take Away. Do not take the club away with your hands. Your hands should do nothing in the take away. Simply turn the shoulders by starting the back swing with your left shoulder. That is it. Don't get complicated - turn the left shoulder until it cannot turn any more, and leave the hands and arms in the exact same position they were in at address. You are now at the top of your back swing with taylormade burner 2.0 irons. Initiate the downswing with your left hip and right shoulder. Those are the 5 things you need to concentrate on in order to hit a straighter ball - simply get back to basics. The grip, alignment, ball position, distance from ball and take - away should all be as natural as possible. Do not try to force the shot. |
