Mission statement: It is our wish as the Founders of the Tree, the Tower and the Sword to create a precious and viable community through the reestablishment of our former sites into a single family with a common vision. We at the Tree, the Tower and the Sword hold that those communities in which the members feel like family are the strongest ground upon which to build any community, whether as a hobby or a home. It is therefore a given that such a community will share the characteristics of a family, including mutual sharing, encouragement, and regard. Another important characteristic of families is that a family cannot belong to a single person, but rather, in a family, everyone belongs to each other. Therefore, our community shall in no way be regarded as the property of a single individual, nor even the possession of we the Founders. The Tree, the Tower and the Sword is to belong to the entire membership, not only in theory, but in practice. For this reason, our site is based entirely upon democratic principles. Aesthetically and conceptually, we are loosely based upon the late Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series. Together, we celebrate this world which has brought us all together, and dedicate this site to continuing to bring people together to a home where each can find belonging. Written by River Paths and Ajahs The Channeler path: The wielders of the Power and their initiates live in the White Tower, training vigorously to control their unique skills and Talents. These men and women with various skills share the great possibilities and the heavy responsibilities that come with the Power. They operate wherever their skills are most useful. The Ogier path: These peaceful and long-lived creatures dwell in the stedding near the White Tower. Tenders of the trees and master architects and stonemasons, they help build and construct where something is incomplete or amiss. They bring stability to the this hasty world with their peaceful and calm behaviour. The Warder path: The protectors of the people, the defenders of the Tower, Warders are the elite soldiers trained in the White Tower Garrison. They fight where they are needed, alongside Aes Sedai and protect the weak and the vulnerable. The Blue Ajah "The members of the Blue Ajah here at TT&S also strive for just causes. They choose their personal goal and do whatever they can to promote their cause. For one, it might be promoting justice by monitoring the site for rule-breakings and misdemeanours, for another it may be promoting equality by suggesting Power/Skill/Wisdom points for helpful acts. One is more comfortable with bringing up topics close to their heart through discussions when another actively teaches classes to bring their cause to everyone's attention." --Elder Khira, Head of the Blue Ajah The Brown Ajah members are the keepers and restorers of knowledge. They are always looking for lost knowledge and preserve it for future generations. The Gray Ajah are focused on harmony. They believe in the power of consensus and are skillful mediators. The Green Ajah "The Green Ajah in the books are flirty fighters who stand ready for the last battle. Here, at TT&S, the Green Ajah is a very inclusive group who strive to keep the peace as much as we can. But with saying that, we will fight for what we believe in as well as fighting for each other. We strive to be strong, and envelope ourselves in loyalty, strength, and honesty. We stand ready to do whatever the Path leaders ask of us." --Alanna Sedai, Head of the Green Ajah The Red Ajah is now all about a new beginning. They continue their battle for humanity by embracing new opportunities and evaluating the impacts of new methods and skills. The White Ajah believes in logic and cool reasoning. Philosophy is close to their heart as they strive to find the truth. The Yellow Ajah members are the Healers of the Tower. Ajahs are encouraged to create their own tasks specific to the Tree, the Tower and the Sword. These tasks will be added here through introduction by the Head of Ajah. After an account has been deleted, any attempts to rejoin without the permission of the admins will not be tolerated. Written by Nadalia Posting rules and punishments The most fundamental thing you need to remember when posting is respect. We are a community, and as a community, we should all have a respectful and courteous attitude when dealing with each other in every way. Flaming, harassment and vulgar language are expressly forbidden. You should respect your superiors in rank by using the correct honorifics when talking to them. Proper honorifics are: Aes Sedai: *** Sedai Accepted: Accepted *** Ogier: Elder *** Adepts: Adept *** Warders: *** Gaidin/Gaidar Younglings: Youngling *** Amyrlin/M'Hael: Mother/Father The Eldest: Eldest Sword Captain: Captain Mistress/Master of Initiates, Ajah Heads, Path Leader seconds, Ajah seconds, MoI second: Appropriate Senior Member honorific You should keep unnecessary posts to a minimum. Do not post with just a couple of words or a smiley if they do not add any content to the conversation. Do not start a thread that will just be a conversation between you and another member; use personal messages instead. Spamming is allowed in the Merry Warder. Misbehaviour, Punishments and You! First of all, let us be serious. If you break the rules of this site, your case will be handled by the Judicial Council and you can receive a warning and possibly lose Power/Skill/Wisdom points. If you are a junior member, you can also be sent to the Mistress/Master of Initiates for punishment. Rule-breaking can include but is not limited to: -Breaking the posting rules by flaming, harassing or swearing -Breaking the avatar and signatures rules and not correcting the situation after a notice -Not using proper honorifics after being corrected about it -Doing a malicious prank -Excessive spamming -Trying to cheat with Power/Skill/Wisdom points If the infraction will result in a third warning or is particularly serious, the Council can decide on banning from the site or demoting in rank. They can also advise the Hall to restrict your access to certain forums or ban you from the site temporarily until the matter is resolved. Admins have the right to immediately restrict access if they notice an infraction. And now to the light side! We don't want to be all rules and restrictions. Pranks are allowed, as long as they are done with a light heart and with an intention to entertain. When caught for such a prank, the Mistress/Master of Initiates will assign you a punishment, which will also be light-hearted in nature. Written by Khira Judicial Council The Judicial Council is a body that controls punishments given for infractions here at the Tree, the Tower and the Sword. The Council is an expert on our rules and punishments and makes sure that similar infractions are dealt with in similar ways, promoting justice and equality. Conduct: Any member can inform the Council of an infraction. The Council will first decide whether or not there is a reason for a punishment judged by the evidence shown to them. If there is reason, they will decide if a warning and the possible losing of Power/Skill/Wisdom points will suffice or if the infraction can lead to banning or demoting, which is the case when the infraction will result in a third warning or is particularly serious. In the case of a warning, the Council will discuss the case and decide on the punishment. Then the warning and losing Power/Skill/Wisdom points are announced by the Mistress or Master of Initiates and effective immediately. In the case of banning or demoting, the Council will discuss the case and the Mistress or Master of Initiates will submit a proposal to the Hall. If 2/3rds of the Hall disagree, the proposal is sent back to the Council with notes from the disagreeing members, where another discussion will take place until a proposal from the Council is accepted by the Hall. Then the banning or demotion is announced and executed. In the case of a serious infraction, the Council can advise the Hall to restrict the infractor 's access to certain forums or ban the infractor temporarily until the matter is resolved. Members: The Council consists of five members: The Mistress or Master of Initiates, two Members of the Council and two substitute members of the Council. Any senior member can apply for membership when a member retires or falls inactive, including members of the Hall. When a Member of the Council retires, a substitute member will take their place. When a substitute member takes the place of a Member or retires, the hall will announce an invitation for applications for a new substitute member. When a member of the Council goes on a Leave of Absence that lasts more than a month, a substitute will take their place in the Council for that period. When a member of the Council is inactive for more than one month without a Leave of Absence, a substitute will take their place in the Council. If the member remains inactive for additional three months, the substitute member will become a full member in his or her place. The Mistress or Master of Inititates leads the discussions and announces the accepted proposals in the appropriate manner. He or she makes sure that decisions come in a timely manner and that the Hall is given notice of a member retiring, going on a Leave of Absence or being inactive, so the Hall can announce the invitation for applications appropriately. Discussion: If a member of the Council thinks that they might be biased because of their relationship with the infractor, they will inform the Mistress or Master of Initiates and refrain from discussing the case. A substitute member of the Council will be called to take their place. If the Mistress or Master of Initiates is biased, they will inform the Council and appoint a temporary leader for that particular case and a substitute member of the Council will be called to take a place as a member of the Council. Important notice: The Council will be introduced when the membership is large enough for it. Prior to that time, the Mistress or Master of Initiates is in charge of minor infractions and warnings and the Hall will decide on banning or demoting in rank. Written by Khira Bonding We at our site believe that limits cannot be placed on friendships, and neither can any third party truly judge the depth of a relationship between two individuals. Our treatment of the bonding process reflects this. We do not restrict Bonding to genders or paths - two friends from any group or groups may petition the Hall to Bond. You do have to wait until you are a Senior Member before you can bond. If the petitioners currently have bondmates, the new bond will not be refused, but written consent from all current bondmates must be provided. If the Hall is satisfied that a current bondmate is unreachable, this requirement may be waived. Upon receipt of the petition, the Hall shall appoint a mediator to discuss with the petitioners the reason for and the meaning of the bond, as well as a brief history of the interactions of the bondmates. The mediator shall take these things, as well as any history with other bondmates of the two, into consideration, and then issue a recommendation to the pair either encouraging or discouraging the bond. The recommendation shall also include a required waiting period from 1-8 weeks. Following this waiting period, the petitioners will meet again with the mediator, and they will discuss any developments in the relationship or thoughts on it. If, at the conclusion of this second mediation session, the pair still wishes to bond, the mediator shall announce the bonding of the two individuals. They shall give the pair all due encouragement, and shall not make personal doubts about the bond public. Bonds with nonmembers of the site are not recognized; therefore, if a member is banned or announces a permanent retirement from the site, the bond is considered by the Hall to be dissolved. Dissolution of Bonds Dissolution of Bonds is highly discouraged, for we believe that true friendship is for life, and endures through wrongs committed by either party. Furthermore, as we do not limit the number of bondmates one might have, the absence of a bondmate is not grounds for dissolution. If one of the parties is unreachable but has not retired from the site, they shall be considered absent, and the bond shall not be dissolved. Upon request by a bondmate for dissolution of a Bond, the Hall will once again appoint a mediator to discuss with both parties the reasons for this, and to see if reconciliation can be reached. If reconciliation is impossible, the bond shall be dissolved, and this shall be noted in the history of both bondmates. A pattern of dissolving bonds will result in revocation of the privilege of Bonding by the Hall. Written by River How the Hall Works The Hall of the Tower shall consist of seven Ajah Heads, Amyrlin Seat or M’hael of the Channelers, Sword Captain of the Garrison and the Eldest of the Ogier. These ten individuals shall be co-equal, and together deal with all major site issues. Unless otherwise noted, a two-thirds majority of active members is needed to pass an action. The Mistress or Master of Initiates shall participate in discussions of the Hall, but will not be a voter in the Hall. For purposes of this document, the “Active” members shall be those who have signed in to the monthly Hall roll call. This roll call shall be up the entirety of each month, and each Hall member must post there once during the month to be considered present. Path Leaders These include the Eldest of the Ogier, Amyrlin Seat or M’hael of the Channelers, and the Sword Captain of the Garrison. They are Admins of the Tree, the Tower and the Sword. They shall have authority over all members in their Path, including, Hall members in their Path. They shall not, however, have authority over the other Hall positions - while an Aes Sedai may be a Head of Ajah, and must nonetheless submit to the authority of the Amyrlin Seat, the Amyrlin Seat alone shall not have authority to tell the HoA how to do their job. The Path Leaders shall work with the Ajah Heads of their members as necessary, as well as the MoI of Second and Third Tier members. In the event that a Path Leader is unfit to serve, a 2/3rds majority of the Ajah Heads can call for the Path to elect a replacement. If a path has less than four members, the Ajah Heads can choose a Path Leader for that path if they deem it necessary and find an appropriate candidate. As soon as a Path has four members or when the current Path Leader retires or is demoted, they shall elect a Path Leader amongst themselves. Each Path Leader may appoint an assistant - Keeper, Second, or Under-Captain - at their discretion, and may delegate any or all authority to the assistant as they deem necessary, including but not limited to authorization of the assistant to vote for them and have their Admin rights during Path Leader’s inactivity. Path Leaders shall have full authority to take any necessary immediate action against a member, at their own discretion. Disciplinary issues must be brought to the Council at once. Furthermore, a decision by the Council not to make a demotion or ban permanent in no way undermines any temporary demotions or bans decided upon by the Path Leader. Pior to the introduction of the Council, the Hall will decide on matters of permanent bans and demoting in rank. Ajah Heads The Heads of the 7 Ajahs shall have authority over their members. They are moderators of the Tree, the Tower and the Sword. The authority not to accept members into the Ajah shall be limited by a 3/4ths approval of the present Ajah members. The Ajah Heads shall work with the Path Leaders of their Ajah members as necessary, as well as the MoI of Third Tier members. In the event that an Ajah Head is unfit to serve, a 2/3rds majority of Path Leaders can call for the Ajah to elect a replacement. If an Ajah has less than four members, the Path Leaders can choose an Ajah Head for that Ajah if they deem it necessary and find an appropriate candidate. As soon as an Ajah has four members or when the current Head of Ajah retires or is demoted, they shall elect an Ajah Head amongst themselves. Each Ajah Head may appoint an assistant - a Sitter - at their discretion, and may delegate any or all authority to the assistant as they deem necessary, including but not limited to authorization of the assistant to vote for them during HoA’s inactivity. Master/Mistress of Initiates The Master or Mistress of Initiates is an Admin of the Tree, the Tower and the Sword, but not a voting Hall member. The Master or Mistress of Initiates shall have authority over all Junior Members, and shall be responsible for coordinating distribution of points, tracking Raising requirements, assigning penances and ensuring completion, assigning mentors, and presenting Raising petitions to the Hall. The Master or Mistress of Initiates will lead the Judicial Council. Prior to the introduction of the Council, he or she will be in charge of warnings and reducing Power/Skill/Wisdom points. He or she shall work with the respective Path Leaders and Ajah Heads where applicable. The Master or Mistress of Initiates shall be appointed by a 2/3rds majority of the Hall Entire. The Master or Mistress of Novices may appoint an assistant, and may delegate any or all authority to the assistant as he or she deems necessary, including but not limited to Admin rights during MoI's inactivity. The Mistress or Master of Initiates shall have full authority, similar to that of a Path Leader, to take any necessary immediate action against a member as described above. Written by River, edited by Khira Procedures for Hall member disappearances and Leave of Absences General Rules A Hall member is allowed a maximum of 2 months of posted LOA at one time. Other smaller LOAs are allowed throughout the year, however, if you need more than 2 months of a LOA then you are expected to retire from your position. Disappearances First Occurrence If a Hall member has not been active at the site for two weeks and has NOT posted a LOA, then they will be put forth before the Hall to initiate this procedure. All Hall members will try and get in contact with the member in question using as many different mediums as are available (email, IM, other sites, phone calls, other members, etc). If a member manages to get in touch with said missing Hall member, they may pass along their official LOA. If their LOA intends to exceed two months they are expected to resign. If there is no response, either directly or indirectly, for one month (including the two weeks preceding the initiation of the Hall procedure) the Hall will grant their Second in Command all rights and responsibilities. At the discretion of the Hall, this may be instituted earlier depending on the demands of the site. If the missing Hall member does not return nor get in contact with the site for two months (including the two weeks preceding the initiation of the procedure), the Hall member will be demoted to Senior Member and will be notified of their changed status. If a Hall member returns BEFORE the two month time span is over, but after they had already been put forth for consideration of removal by the Hall and without ever posting an official LOA, then they will be allowed to resume their duties. This will count as one strike against their adminship. Second Occurrence However if they disappear a second time without an announced LOA, they will have another two weeks before being put up before the Hall and two weeks to either get in touch directly with the site or indirectly with one of our members to post an official LOA. If after those four combined weeks (an entire month), they do not return, they will be demoted to Senior Member and will be notified of their changed status. If they return before the four weeks are concluded, they will be allowed to maintain their status but this will count as a second strike against their adminship. Third Occurrence In the case of a third disappearance for two weeks, they will be put before the Hall for a vote for removal of duties with an intermediate waiting period. If 2/3 of the Hall votes in the affirmative for their removal, they will be demoted to Senior Member and will be notified of their changed status. If the motion fails, they will be given another two weeks to return and then will be removed without a Hall vote. This is the third strike against their adminship and they will not be allowed to apply for another Hall position for at least six months. Note: If a member feels that one of their strikes was unfair and contained extenuating circumstances, they may try to repeal the strike after the conclusion of the procedure. Additionally, all members receive a clean slate to work with after the end of the year. Written by Indira |
