I would like to note that when creating a character they a going to start out in training or a beginner if your character is a bender. If however you are on your second character.

Bending Ranks

In Training: After just learning that you are a bender you find yourself with a teacher to learn the fine art of elemental bending you are attuned to. Based on which bending type you are determines where in the world you will be to learn this great skill.

Beginner: As a beginner in your element you know the basic skills of bending that will get you through your day to day routine down to your daily life. You should be able to defend yourself should you run into beginner non benders or end up fighting another beginner bender. You might not be able to defend yourself however against a moderate level non bender or would likely lose to a moderate level bender.

Moderate: You become more adept into the ways of bending be able to use more skills associated with you specific element. Healing becomes available to water benders if they have a teacher.

Advanced: Have mastered most of the skills involved with the your specific element. Also able to learn additional types of bending associated with your element.

Master: You are a master of your bending craft. You are easily able to master new bending styles and techniques that pertain to you element. As well as teach younger benders the basics and more advanced skills.
