I have compiled a report on the combined adventures that set out recently, from various accounts provided to me from the other adventurers. Ceryndra has offered to present the details of the mission to the Dark Plains in more detail for those interested, but I send this copy of the Drow diplomatic mission report ahead of her so that people are aware of the imminent issues that threaten Athesia. Harbek. Sorma, Lifa and Druunk attended the Drow diplomacy mission, they were met on Unity Island by the drow emissary that has been with us since Varis captured her. They were told to assist Matron Mother Alv'aer of house Zautlar in negotiating an alliance between the warring Drow houses (in order to oppose another drow house, Torlyl, that has been summoning demons and raiding our shores with fleets). We were portalled to the drow homeland, where, after some small confusion we met with Alv'aer and attended the diplomatic meeting. [Aside on drow hierarchy: Drow society consists of three factions, the Houses (Nobles), the Handmaidens (Church) and the Free booters (Navy) (Andy, confirmation?). We have been being raided by the navy only. The navy has allied with House Torlyl and is summoning demons.] The diplomacy was fairly standard with much shouting and little progress, until Alv'aer told the Athesians to step forward. There was more diplomacy, (which apparently Druunk is particularly good at!) and most of the drow decided that the demon lore book loaned to us by Lyet Liadon was a symbol of power and that meant they could follow Athesia. At this news one of the quieter drow house delegations turned hostile and summoned several demons which were quickly dispatched along with the delegates. Next, the book had to be taken to the Handmaidens of Lolth, a powerful faction of Drow outside of the Houses which could sway any conflict in our favour and galvanize the fractious houses. The Handmaidens informed us that they would only ally themselves when the true power of the demon book had been unlocked. At this point magical portals opened and the party was returned to Athesia, appearing in The Pit, and underground area beneath the Dark Plains. Here the two teams met for the first time. Both groups then journeyed together for a while, fighting summoned demons and devils in The Pit, before catching up with the arch-bishop (please see Ceryndra's report on who this is or what is going on here), who opened portals to both Hell and the Abyss, himself escaping into Hell and dragging the heroes randomly into one of the two portals. At this point the group split in two again, Sorma, Konrad and Malach being thrown into the Abyss and Ceryndra, Lifa and Santiago sent to Hell (Druunk disappeared at this point, presumably able to resist the pull of the portals, we believe he returned home as he had no way to follow either group to their respective planes). Arriving in the Abyss, the group saw a fortress in the distance that Sorma had been told would contain what was needed to unlock the demon book, so they went there. Inside the fortress appeared to organise itself to lead them to a certain location (the corridors were able to shift and there was no choice as to the way "forward". The party fought several bands of demons before there was a flash and the group from Hell appeared. Apparently the archbishop that they had been chasing had fled from Hell to the Abyss and they had followed him. Conveniently to the same location. Everyone chased the archbishop a little, then fought and defeated him. Shadowstrike and Sorma were both killed when he exploded on death. The archbishop then spouted some warning about the Dawn King, and died, dropping a jar that released a demonic soul. Then medics appeared and raised Shadowstrike, though Sorma could not be brought back. Ceryndra took the demon book from Sorma, placed it on a convenient pedestal and the rest of the book was unlocked, allowing us to summon and bind demons. We all appeared back in the Material Plane, had a vision about the Matron Mother of House Torlyl summoning the demonic soul that was released using a demon book similar to ours. Then we went home. [Aside for arcane characters: Andy tells me that you will all be able to detect the demonic energy of the drow summoning taking place far to the east.] |

ooc: free traders not free booters Anyone trained in arcana or religion after learning of this ritual can sense that there is indeed a faint change in the 'background magic', specifically from the east. Apparently the effects of the building ritual can be sensed even from across the sea. |

As a brief report from the grasping rays of dawn: It appears that old Espar is not as dead as we once thought, with, not merely, it appears the Dawn King still being around, but his noblemen and hiearchy. We discovered a note, in a library, in a cathedral, trapped between planes, and they appear to think some of us might actually be under their influence. This could take some looking into. Also we have a nobleman prisoner. Oh and may have had to make a deal with a devil....... |

I am currently writing the report for this adventure, it should be public by this evening. Also, neither I nor Lifa were any part of a bargain made in Hell on this excursion. Edited by Ceryndra Silverflame, 27 Feb 2013, 14:37.

((OOC: Apologies for this being up so late, I'm still not used to having a full-time job.)) Before I begin I feel I should explain something of myself. Before joining the Council of Athesia, I became an Infernal Warlock. For those who do not know, this involved making a deal with a devil. A devil's favourite thing to bargain with man for is man's soul, and this was no exception. Afterwards, as both a measure to protect myself and a way to harm the devils I encountered more, I did not stop at bargaining my soul to only one devil. This way, any devil who wishes to claim my soul must fight with every other devil I have bargained with, and I have thus far managed to evade any claim on my soul. Since joining the Athesian Council I have not bargained with any other devil, however should anybody feel that I am in the wrong for my actions (I consider them to be extremely rash myself, and a product of youth) I would invite you to please tell me. To fill in the gaps in Harbek's report, when Shadowstrike, Santiago, Konrad and I arrived at the Pit we found that the Archbishop was the one to have opened the seal that the Cardinal had placed on it. Once at the bottom of the Pit we found the fort there filled with people from House Armino, and all around was a strange darkness. After some time (and talking to the leader of this particular group of men, whose name escapes me) we established that the darkness was a product of the exacerbation of their fear and suspicion by the monolith at the centre of the cavern where the fort lies. Men had been disappearing and food stores were low, and so we shared food with the men and the darkness was lifted. We went in search of some of the men and found energy from Dawnshades (invisible creatures several of us have had the experience of fighting before) and followed the arcane trail to a combat with some of these creatures. After this we were joined by the other group of adventurers. Journeying on, as in Harbek's report, we eventually found the Archbishop and were once again separated by his ritual; Lifa, Santiago and I being transported into Hell. Each group also received half a crystal, which magically allowed us to see and sometimes aid one another. Once there we saw troops from house Menthman (worshippers of the devil Asmodeus) marching to a city. Following them, we found ourselves in the Infernal city of Dis. While hiding outside a window, we overheard devils conversing inside. They said that they could sense me in the city and that claims were to be made. After much debate we decided to try negotiation, and so we spoke with a devil I had not seen before who wanted to trade our souls for those of forty-eight innocent people. After a lot of debate, Santiago bargined his father's whereabouts and soul for safe passage home and the Menthman leader as a prisoner. As the deal was about to be closed, another devil, more familiar to myself and of the name Lazreal, appeared, saying that he had come to claim my soul. After a fight, Lazreal was defeated and because I slew him in Hell itself, he shall remain dead. As he died, he threw something at me, and now despite not having died in the Plains I am afflicted with the same curse as those who have. We wandered out into the corridor and eventually found a room where the Menthman leader was; we questioned him and with Santiago's honour, he told us that House Menthman plans to build a temple to Asmodeus in the Plains, using building materials from Hell itself. We knocked him out and carried him with us to the portal home, where we saw a devil and the Archbishop speaking to one another. The devil passed a strange orb to the Archbishop, which with some help from Shadowstrike we were able to take before following the Archbishiop through the portal, which as Santiago has mentioned led to a cathedral between worlds. ((OOC: I'll write up the note this evening, I'm at work atm.)) As well as the library we found a laboratory where the energy of the two portals (Abyssal and infernal) was being sent with a large crystal in the ceiling of the cathedral. Inside were large glass jars with strange, humanoid creatures inside, and two of which were smashed as though the inhabitants had escaped. We took the crystal, closed the Hell portal and went through the Abyss portal, whereupon we met the other group. The rest is as Harbek has written - I do not know what the Drow plot, nor whether they are connected to the Dawn King, but we shall see. |
