I would like to ask that Sword Sages be allowed as a character class in Athesia. Reason 1: Warblades and Crusaders are already allowed. Reason 2: The Manouver rules really aren't hard to grasp. Reason 3: The flavour of the class and the various realms of Athesia need not be so far removed from another as one might think - Sword Sages see every step, thrust, parry and riposte, as a potential learning experience. A Lexum Legionnaire and a Tor Gart berserker could very easily think the same way about combat, it is only their approach that is different: the Legionnaire might discuss the best way to thrust and twist the spear with his fellow soldiers, whereas the berserker might sit and meditate on his period of rage during his fatigue afterwards, to recall which slash or cut of the axe worked best. Reason 4: There's a particular build I have in mind that only works with Sword Sage. Reason 5: I'll give you cookies. So, please, with cherries and sugar? |

Do you know how hard John had to argue to get the Crusaders and Warblades into Athesia? We still dont have the Rules up to the point where Players can legally play those Classes and I still object to the Sword Sage Class - no Manga is my objection.

How is a Sword Sage any more Anime than a Monk? Run at 60 miles per hour, jump 100' over a moat, shatter the castle walls with a single strike from your bare hands and then parry the enemy arrows... the only way it could be more Anime is if you stuck cat ears on it ![]() Sword Sages are fighter/mages with an emphesis on hitting people. |

What John said. There's absolutely no reason to ban them. Swordsages are to Monks what Warblades are to Fighters and Crusaders to Paladins - a version of a mêlée class that actually works. They were meant to replace the three PHB classes because they're shit compared to casters - the ToB stuff still doesn't equal casters, but at least they stay fun to play at high levels. I say unban Swordsages. They're not broken, they're not animé, and they're no different to Warblades and Crusaders. It makes no sense to ban them whilst allowing the other two. Restrict them to certain organisations, sure (though I personally think they should be common classes, since all other mêlée classes suck), but don't ban them. |

I have to say, I agree with John and the whole "I don't like manga" is a bit flimsy. A lot of classes could be considered anime, take Shadowdancer or Arcane Trickester. Why not ban them too? . |

Sword Sages are now an accepted Class in the World of Athesia. See Athesia Character Creation Rules for more details. Also, the restrictions on the Crusader and Warblade Classes have been lifted. Instead any Player who wishes to use these Classes must include a Section in their background that explains their use.
