The Army of Light RPG is a series of tactical role playing games developed to play on the computer by Mercenary of Light with the help of his friends and other members. The gameplay is based on strategy RPGs like Fire Emblem and Advance Wars, but with new characters and an original story that members of this forum create, develop and will later experience.

Nordive RP; My idea for a new RP continent

Here we go here is Nordive's general history. First off the map. Please Note that this is only one of four(five) continents of a planet called Morsinnia. If this continents story finishes then I will make the RP of the Soutran, then Morson and Repoud, then the Desert islands. Please tell me if any Faction needs more history/info.

The Sterman Republic- The upper left-and corner. (Light Blue)- The Sterman's are an isolated people who are wary of trespassers in their land. There home island is mainly surrounded by mountains further solidifying there isolationist mindset. They have only recently started conquering lands from the Hochikahns, forcing them to deal with the fact that since they were isolated, they are now only known as savages who attacked without warning. They consist of excellent navies, and as such have many pirates and brigands who hail from there.

The HochiKahns (now called Sernai)- The islands between the Nordikates and the Stermans- (Dark green)- The island faring Hochikahns, or Hochs for short, are a people of repute across the lands of Nordive. They are culturally rich, and are known for their amazing swordplay. This affinity for swords is what makes them feared and respected at the same time. They produce excellent Katina's designed only to give the weilder a better advantage, by making them light and sharp. The Stermans blindsided the Hochs and have seized the isle de Pacette and Ica Island. The Hochs are still scrambling to defend the rest of their home but due to a lack of a proper navy, they cannot.

Nordikates (Now Gordovica)- The largest landmass with 3 lakes- (light Yellow)- A people who have always been active in world affairs. They feel that they have inherited the lands from the gods and have crushed anyone in their way. They are currently on good terms with the Hochs, but they seem to be planing to make the most of their "allies" situation, and generally will annex land in exchange for protection from not only the Stermans, but also other Nordiks as well. They are generally more of a diverse group culturally but it is common to find many cutthroats and thieves among their ranks.

New Republica- (Dark Yellow)- The little peninsula below the Nordikates- To understand New Republica one must first know of where the host of the colony comes from. Old Republica was originally created as a rebel group to overthrow the Morsons, and halt their almost complete world domination. They slowly began liberating their own continent, fighting tooth and nail to destroy the tyranny, that oppressed so many. After freeing their continent and becoming a legitimate world power, they sailed north to stop Morson from conquering Nordive as well. Now that they have established a foothold in Nordive they aim to kick Morson out of Nordive, then finish the job by cruising them on the continent of Morson. Their only supporters are currently the Nordikates, but they are seen in a positive light compared to the Morson Colonies. They field the largest army in the world second only to morson and thus have a wide variety of people, and soldiers. Known for their heavily armored troops. (They are actually ruled by an emperor, go figure.)

The Morson Colonies- (Dark purple) - The peninsula jutting out below the Magyars- The Morsons are a proud people who are relentless in their fury. They previously controlled two of the four major continents but do to Republica have been reduced to half of their previous size. Furious at this they have begun to head to Nordive in an effort to take control of another part of the world. They aim to Destroy Republica slaughtering every last man. woman, and, child who swears allegiance to them. They have no allies in Nordive, and Field only the toughest of soldiers. Known for their Paladins and Great Knights.

The Magyars- (Pink) (You can't miss it.)- The Magyars are situated directly in the center of Nordive, and thus they are the balancing force of the continent. They have only recently discovered the practical use of magic, and as such spread the knowledge to everyone but the Invaders (Stermans, Republica, Morson). While they are noble and valorous, they are also able to hold their own in a war. Their army consists of phalanxes of lances and mages to bring up the flanks.

Okay firstly I'd like to state that I'm being critical of this map, and will point out problems I believe it has. This means I won't be nice and may sound cruel. (Sorry it's what I do)

Firstly while some may disagree I think there's too many factions. While people do like having a wide variety of option. 9 Different continents(countries) is a bit extreme. I don't know if you plan to have an RP for each one. But I recommend decreasing the number of factions so that each one can develop their story, I'd say 5 is enough, 6 or 7 is a stretch.

To continue, your ability to keep up with all the politics of these countries is an issue I'm worried about. This is not meant to say you're incapable. Merely that alot is happening, and I don't know if you can keep the RP interesting, when there's several different wars going on at the same time. I mean, lets assume most of the RP takes place in Nordikates territory. If the story develops over to Magyar a random event with a solider saying, "The Hochikahn islands have been taken over by the Stermans" is probably not very interesting. Infact I believe overall it would decrease the enjoyment factor

I strongly suggest (I won't agree no matter what the argument) that a colour change is needed for the Hochikahns or the Elegren Democracy. They're both green, and while you seemed to have intended for the Hochikahns to have been a darker green. I really don't see a strong difference in colour.

While not essential, the amount of water worries me. You seem to like the sea, Are you planning for this to be a sea based RP? As in Pirate vs Pirate sort of thing? I'd like to see at least two factions which share a land border.

While I applaud your enthusiasm, I'm not sure how well you can build a story, if you've already got 3 other RP's planned. Soutrans/Morson/Repound. I don't know how much time you've spent into planning this, but without a good story RP's are rubbish. And Faction A is at war with Faction B, Faction B ended up loosing without any events occuring. Would be very boring. You should stay focused on your current RP until you've reached a point where it's starting to die off, or the story is reaching/reached it's end.

Note: I assume you'll have something to say about what I've said, if you found alot of what I said insulting, and don't want to hear from me again on this topic, PM me to "Go away" and I'll stay away from Nordive.

Your perfectly right. While some people may find constructive criticism insulting, I do not.it is there to help, and help it has.

Your first point: Definitely right. So I shrunk the map to reduce the factions to 5. The Badlands are not a faction but more of a region.

Your second point: Generally each area will have little grasp on the world around them. Only incredibly major events would change the general history. And then even in war there is more going on. I'd like to see the characters driving the plot more than NPC's. And as for politics I have it all saved somewhere on my comp.

Your third point: I changed the map.

Your forth point: As for a story I'll base it over the New Mainland. The island Areas will be insignificant, and only the Stermans would generally be raiding pirates. I sincerely thank you for pointing out my over ambitiousness. You were a great help.

The new map is great, Looks alot better then the first one, (didn't say this earlier but there were parts that looked like random splotches on the original map).

I'm guessing you're making new country profiles already, but out of curiousity what's the black and white dots, I'm guessing one of the two are major cities(capitals), I thought the white ones were ports or something, but there's one in near the land border of yellow/green.

I was a great help? *Thinks* Well never heard that before. Also, is it just me or does ArmOLight seem rather quiet lately, maybe everyones busy. Anyway looking great, 'd say you got the map settled.

Yeah the black and white dots are just something I'll fix. Originally I was gonna put something there but I scrapped that idea. I'll edit this post with the new factions tommorow. I'll also add rivers and maybe mountains.

Looks pretty good. I would reccomend that when you resize the map for adding other things, you don't be afraid to let your fingers run and make odd-shaped coasts and borders. But overall reaally good.

Wow, I can see you've put a lot of effort into this :) looks like its as well planned as a DaD or WFRP plot (Dungeons and Dragons and Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay for the uneducated people out there ;) ) I might start working on a more detailed map of the region of Ekarode I'm basing my EF team in.
Just cos I'm an angel doesn't mean I play by the rules ;)

Yay, maps, personaly I dodnt read this because im lazy, but looking voer it it looks really great, ill be interested to see how it works when/if you get a roleplay going. Theres no system for it because nobody else bothered.

There I edited the map. I know that everything looks blocky. I resized it. I now need to finish smoothing the coasts, and rivers then I need to add mountains. I'll update the map regularly, but don't expect miracles. I do have to school to face.

I changed the name of the Hochikahns and the Nordikates to something more pronounceable. Also I decided that while war would be a topic of the RP, it would mainly focus on the internal affairs, of the countries, as well as the more recent spread of the dangerous Cadvian cult. (Yeah, they were going to be a faction, but now their just a murderous cult.) Also the royal families will be completely controlled by PC's. So saying that if this ever gets rolling then the first to make a character for their country would become that countries ruling family. Oh and to stop Godmodding, I would probably base my judgement on level and not social class. So level 5 king cannot beat a level 20/20/20/20/20/20... Villager, even though they would be of higher stature and not in
social status.
So yeah give me your opinion of all of the Non blocky areas please.

Looks great to me, ill be there with a character as soon as you set it up.

Ive coppied and pasted the information about the civs that are still there for people who arent so sure.
