Here I'll write some general tips to make your character a better fighter and everybody's favorite. ►Choosing the right Class When selecting a class for your character, try to choose one that fits his/her backstory or viceversa. Be original but the character's backstory has to hint or explain the reason. Also try to choose a class that hasn't been chosen yet (check the profile/stat sheets and see which are left). That not only makes your character unique (it won't be competing with others that might end up better) but it gives it an edge over the rest for its skills, stats and weapons. You'll see all classes are important and well-balanced for the game and in the end some turn out the same (3rd tiers). ►Make a good backstory and personality If you make your character have a good personality and backstory, chances are he/she will be liked by almost everyone. You can make your character have your personality, which makes it easier to stay in character, but making someone completely different than what you are can be good too. Making your character a cardboard cut-out (generic or full of clichés) is not a good idea, most of us are tired of them. Creating a personal backstory also helps not only developing his/her personality, but also how others might treat you and how well the story can develop around you. When you have an idea for a plot centered on your character (and/or assistant), pm me about it and I will probably make a chapter here about it. If it turns out good, it will be included in one of the games. ►Choosing an assistant I reccomend you participate in Elite Forces campaign and/or buy the Assistant's Aid only if you have enough time to continue developing your main character. Your focus should then be on both (don't forget about the main character), the same rules apply to both. ►Distribute points and stat growths correctly It is very important that you keep stat growths balanced and according to the unit's class. You might think of it as a good idea to give 80-90% Def growth to a mage (so it can become a physical tank), but a sage's (promotion option for a mage) Def cap is as low as a pre-promote (20) and a Druid's isn't much better (21), so (s)he'll cap early and it wouldn't be worth it. A common misconception is the utility of St on magical units or MSt on non-magic units, because most see them as only for daggers/knifes or magical weapons and say they won't use them. But some skills depend on them and units like practicians and swordcasters need both. If the Pursuit skill is added to make units attack twice, Str might be of more use for magical units. Future vampires will also need both (since they use Dark magic and fangs). Think ahead before choosing growths. If you aren't very good with math or want to balance stats, use this tip: on a sheet of paper or Word document, copy down the class base stats, leave a space and then give each stat a 50% growth. From there, take 10% from one stat and add it to another you want higher. If you keep doing that (keeping it balanced), it will all sum up to 400%. For the extra points, first assign those you want to Wt (up to 2) and Lu (up to 5), then work with the other stats (up to 3). |
