The Army of Light RPG is a series of tactical role playing games developed to play on the computer by Mercenary of Light with the help of his friends and other members. The gameplay is based on strategy RPGs like Fire Emblem and Advance Wars, but with new characters and an original story that members of this forum create, develop and will later experience.

Mercenary of Light

These are the classes available for members to choose from. You may start as trainee or first tier. You get 400% to set up your growths in multiples of 10 (Minimum is 20 and Maximum is 90, except Bards, Dancers and Manaketes which can have up to 100). You also get 10 or 15 points to add to your base stats.This page has the base stats of the first tier and trainee classes. Trainees

These are optional starting classes, that are a little weaker than first tier, but get 9 extra level ups. They promote (to first tier) automatically after reaching level 10. If you start with one of these, you have 10 points to add to your base stats.


Devotee
Weapon: Staff
(If Male) Promotes to: Monk, Practician or Priest
(If Female) Promotes to: Cleric, Practician or Troubadour
A healer with good potential.

Fencer
Weapon: Sword
Promotes to: Mercenary, Myrmidon or Swordcaster
An swordfighter beginning to train.

Hunter
Weapon: Bow
Promotes to: Archer or Nomad
A bow user with little battle experience but still skilled.

Journeyman
Weapon: Axe
Promotes to: Brigand, Fighter or Pirate
A weak axe fighter with potential to be very strong.

Pupil
Weapon: Anima
Promotes to: Dark Mage, Mage or Shaman
A mage in training that’s very weak.

Recruit
Weapon: Lance
Promotes to: Cavalier, Knight or Soldier
A soldier in training.

Spy
Weapon: Knife
Promotes to: Shadowstriker or Thief
An inexperienced fighter that uses knives in combat.

First Tier

These are the basic starting classes. If you start with one of these, you have 15 points to add to your base stats. Bards, Dancers and Manaketes are special classes that don't promote. (These units can have up to 100% growth in any stat, but growths still have to sum up to 400).

-Classes that the Army would need are marked with an asterik (*). The asterik is a reccomendation; you could choose any class you want.

Archer
Weapon: Bow
Skill: Ballista
Promotes to: Sniper or Ranger
Promotion Item: Orion’s Bolt
Archers are bow-using fighters that can maneuver ballistae.

Bard/Dancer
Weapon: -
Skill: Play/Dance
Promotes to: -
Performers that cannot attack, but allow allies to move/act again and can use rings to boost their stats. They cannot use the full potential of their magical power.

Brigand *
Weapon: Ax
Skill: Tree-chop
Promotes to: Berserker or Warrior
Promotion Item: Hero Crest
A strong axefighter that can walk over peaks.

Cavalier **
Weapons: Sword/Lance
Promotes to: Paladin or Great Knight
Promotion Item: Knight Crest
A mounted knight that can use both swords and lances.

Cleric
Weapon: Staff
Promotes to: Valkyrie or Bishop
Promotion Item: Guiding Ring
A staff-wielding priestess that can heal allies but cannot use staves offensively.

Dark Mage *
Weapon: Dark
Promotes to: Armored Sorcerer or Summoner
Promotion Item: Guiding Ring
A spellcaster that wields ancient dark magic. Their magic is strong and they have higher defense than normal mages.

Fighter *
Weapon: Axe
Skill: Tree-chop
Promotes to: Warrior or Hero
Promotion Item: Hero Crest
A common axe user that’s good for direct combat.

Knight
Weapon: Lance
Promotes to: General or Great Knight
Promotion Item: Knight Crest
A heavy armored warrior that has great defense but is very slow and weak against magic users.

Mage ** (gets to choose tome(s) it comes with)
Weapon: Anima
Promotes to: Sage or Druid
Promotion Item: Guiding Ring
A spellcaster that wields nature’s magic for combat. They have poor defense but serve well for indirect combat.

Manakete
Weapon: Dragonstone
Promotes to: -
A half-dragon that can use dragonstones to transorm into powerful dragons to attack. They can fly and their attacks are mightier against monsters, but dragonstones are costly and rare.

Mercenary
Weapon: Sword
Promotes to: Hero or Sword Mage
Promotion Item: Hero Crest
A well-balanced sword fighter.

Monk **
Weapon: Light
Promotes to: Bishop or Sage
Promotion Item: Guiding Ring
A wielder of light magic with poor defense, but great magical defense.

Myrmidon (not available as main character) (Note: A Swordcaster can also become a Swordmaster and has almost the same stats)
Weapon: Sword
Promotes to: Swordmaster or Assassin
Promotion Item: Hero Crest
A powerful sword-wielder who specializes in critical attacks.

Nomad
Weapon: Bow
Skill: Instinct
Promotes to: Nomadic Trooper or Ranger
Promotion Item: Orion’s Bolt
A mounted archer.

Practician
Weapon: Staff
Skill: Canne
Promotes to: Mage Fighter or Mage Knight
Promotion Item: Guiding Ring
Versatile offensive staff-users that balance strength with magic. Their only weakness is being a little over average.

Pegasus Knight *
Weapon: Lance
Skill: Triangle Attack
Promotes to: Falcoknight or Wyvern Knight
Promotion Item: Elysian Whip
A Pegasus-mounted knight that’s strong against magic users but fragile against fighters, especially against bow-users.

Pirate
Weapon: Axe
Skill: Tree-chop
Promotes to: Berserker or Captain
Promotion Item: Ocean Seal
An axefighter that can travel across water.

Priest
Weapon: Staff
Promotes to: Sage or Bishop
Promotion Item: Guiding Ring
A staff-wielder that can heal allies but cannot use staves offensively.

Shadowstriker (not available as main character)
Weapons: Knife, Sword
Promotes to: Ninja or Rogue
Promotion Item: Unknown?
A warrior that uses stealth as defense. It can use daggers and knifes.

Shaman
Weapon: Dark
Skill: Spirit Heal
Promotes to: Druid or Summoner
Promotion Item: Guiding Ring
A wielder of ancient dark magic. Their magic is strong but they are very slow.

Soldier *
Weapon: Lance
Promotes to: Halberdier or General
Promotion Item: Knight Crest
A lightweight armored warrior that use lances.

Swordcaster
Weapon: Sword
Promotes to: Sword Mage or Swordmaster
Promotion Item: Hero Crest
A swordsman with high magical strength.

Thief **
Weapons: Knife, Sword
Skill: Steal
Promotes to: Rogue or Assassin
Promotion Item: Fell Contract
A weak fighter that can steal from the enemies and use lockpicks. A thief can use daggers and knifes.

Troubadour *
Weapon: Staff
Promotes to: Valkyrie or Mage Knight
Promotion Item: Guiding Ring
A mounted healer that is great for moving long distances to cure allies or affect enemies. They have weak defense and cannot attack.

Wyvern Rider *
Weapon: Lance
Promotes to: Wyvern Knight or Wyvern Lord
Promotion Item: Elysian Whip
A wyvern-riding unit with great mobility whose weaknesses are magic and bows.

Second Tier

These classes are obtained when you use a promotion item on a first tier unit with a level of 10 or more. You can use a Master Seal, Earth Seal or the specific promotion item (the Ocean Seal and Fell Contract cannot be substituted). Assassins, Rogues and magic users can use knives and daggers.


Armored Sorcerer
Weapons: Dark, Knife
Skill: -
Promotes to: Apocrypha Knight
A heavy armored magician that has mastered dark magic.

Assassin
Weapons: Knife, Sword
Skill: Silencer
Promotes to: Rogue Assassin
A master killer that has a high chance of striking critical blows more lethal than other units. They can use lockpicks.

Berserker
Weapons: Axe
Skills: Critical Bonus, Tree-chop
Promotes to: Barbarian
Great frontline fighter that can move across mountain peaks and water. They have a 15% critical bonus.

Bishop
Weapons: Knife, Light, Staff
Skill: Slayer
Promotes to: Archsage
Great healer and monster slayer with high magical defense.

Captain
Weapons: Axe, Sword
Skills: Flintlock, Tree-chop
Promotes to: Barbarian
A sea fighter similar to the berserker except having swords and a higher magical strength instead of a critical bonus.

Druid
Weapons: Anima, Dark, Knife, Staff
Skill: Half-Moon Energy
Promotes to: Necromancer
Learned scholar that has mastered dark magic and is proficient with staves and anima magic.

Falcoknight
Weapons: Lance, Sword
Skills: Stun, Triangle Attack
Promotes to: Seraph Knight
A powerful Pegasus knight with great movement and high resistance.

General
Weapons: Axe, Lance, Sword
Skill: Big Shield
Promotes to: Sentinel
A skilled knight with great strength and defense, but slow moving and weak against magic.

Great Knight
Weapons: Axe, Lance, Sword
Skill: Tree-chop
Promotes to: Dragoon
A heavy armored mounted knight that’s a great frontal unit.

Halberdier
Weapons: Lance
Skill: Critical Bonus
Promotes to: Sentinel
A medium-weight armored soldier that’s very fast and accurate.

Hero

Skill: Tree-chopper
Promotes to: Hero Swordmaster
A well-rounded warrior with great strength, defense and accuracy.

Mage Knight
Weapons: Anima, Knife, Staff
Skill: Storm Charger
Promotes to: Theurgy Knight
Mounted staff and anima magic wielder with good movement.

Mage Fighter
Weapons: Staff
Skill: Canne
Promotes to: War Sage
A mage skilled in using staves for offense. It has very good stats except for speed.

Ninja
Weapon: Sword
Skills: Shuriken
Promotes to: Grandmaster
A martial arts master in training. Ninjas are skilled in the arts of concealment. They can use daggers and knifes, including their personal sickles.

Nomadic Trooper
Weapons: Bow, Sword
Skills: Instinct, Loose Advantage
Promotes to: Nomad Commander
A nomad archer with great strength that’s best in battles over plains.

Paladin
Weapons: Lance, Sword
Skill: Chivalry
Promotes to: Dragoon
Great direct combat unit on horseback. They have high movement and above average stats, but none are outstanding.

Ranger
Weapons: Bow, Sword
Skill: Instinct, Warden
Promotes to: Nomad Commander
A good backline unit that can wield both bows and swords.

Rogue
Weapons: Knife, Sword
Skills: Pick, Steal
Promotes to: Rogue Assassin
A thief fighter with low strength and defenses, but skilled in other areas.

Sage
Weapons: Anima, Knife, Light, Staff
Skill: Storm Charger
Promotes to: Archsage
A good magic wielder with high strength and accuracy, but low defense.

Sniper
Weapons: Bow
Skill: Ballista, Critical Boost
Promotes to: Marksman
A very quick and accurate bow wielder.

Summoner
Weapons: Dark, Knife, Staff
Skill: Haunt
Promotes to: Necromancer
A master of the dark arts that can summon phantoms.

Swordmaster

Skill: Critical Bonus
Promotes to: Hero Swordmaster
A powerful and fast sword wielder meant for direct combat, where it can unleash lethal blows.

Sword Mage

Skill: Parry
Promotes to: Hero Swordmaster
A swordsmaster skilled at using magical swords.

Valkyrie

Skill: Sol
Promotes to: Theurgy Knight
A mounted maiden that’s skilled at healing, uses light magic and has great mobility.

Warrior

Slow and strong, high defense unit that can use bows and axes.

Wyvern Knight

Skill: Pierce

A fast flying knight that can pierce through enemy defenses with ease.

Third Tier

Units can only be promoted to these classes after using an unknown item or during special events in the story. All skills and weapons that weren’t obtained before promotion can only be learned through the use of Occult Scrolls. Gallowglasses, Vampires and Werewolves promote from almost any class after meeting certain conditions.
