Your Browser

Posted by Mercenary of Light (Admins) at Mar 18 2009, 10:07:37 PM. 14 comments

Note: Most All of you already know that I'm planning on doing a forum host change, and have been working on it recently (along with struggling with my mountain chains of homework and tests). This is the first of various polls in which I'll be asking your opinion to make the site better for everyone. If you have any suggestions or complaints, pm me or post them.

Ok, this is poll is really important, because I want to know which browsers most of you use so I can focus my coding. Although the browser differences are small, there are some size and plugin problems I'm going to attend to. Select the browser you prefer for viewing this site. Right now poll results will only affect the size of the audio player you will be able to "embed" on your posts/sigs/etc (since it will vary in browsers).

Also I'm aware of the Firefox/mp3 dilemma, but don't worry about that, I have a solution.

My poll choice: I use both IE7 and Fx3, but I prefer using IE7 for most sites (including this one).

Chapter 5 Accident

Posted by Mercenary of Light (Admins) at Jan 15 2009, 03:32:56 AM. 10 comments

I have bad news everyone. I accidentally deleted all of chapter 5. I'll hate myself for this today, but I'll try to work something out. I'll have to work on that on Friday, right now, best I can do is continue with Pre-chapter 6 (I wrapped up everything the same way as I planned anyway). I'm really busy currently with schoolwork and I'll be trying to do what I wanted around here when I get a break from it. I''l try to put a filler in the end, sorry for the inconvenience and my error everybody.

Unite and... Icon?

Posted by Mercenary of Light (Admins) at Nov 11 2008, 10:00:29 PM. 8 comments

Ok, everybody, this is yet another update (Let’s hope everyone reads it). Don’t know how many of you noticed, but I changed blog hosts at the end of last month (link to new blog). With the new change, I am now (re)taking requests for songs to be featured at the site and/or forum (like the song above the site), so comment in a music article to. Also, if you have a site of your own, you’re the type of person that likes to help others or you just want something to read or do, then I hope you at least read the article I made yesterday, Unite to reunite refugees with their families.

Another thing I wanted to ask is if you want icons (the icon is the rectangle thing on the left column that says a rank/level) and how do you want them to be. They could be of the Army of Light’s classes or of ranks. I have some almost unused icons I had made for the old forum, with handheld video game characters (like the example below), which could also be used. The colors, size and other things can be changed if the characters are chosen. It’s up to you to decide.

I also want to know if you want a new sub-forum or section to be created (or one separated). And any complaints or suggestions, feel free to shout them out below.

[Side Note: I’ll soon make some polls for the songs put up here, so check them out when you can.]

The Story, the Blog and the No-storm

Posted by Mercenary of Light (Admins) at Oct 16 2008, 08:24:57 PM. 2 comments

If anybody was asking themselves what happened, I’m ok. The hurricane that was about to hit us yesterday, after slightly turning west, created some minor chaos (we’re used to that for even some rain clouds in a formation – a tropical depression) and suspended the classes for yesterday’s afternoon. The night before (Tuesday), I had assigned Aya-Tsuki and Shinigami Ninja as temporary Global Moderators in Bromf’s short absence (and mine too, probably). But yesterday afternoon at 5:00pm, some news, both good and sad came. The sun appeared from a two days hiding, and the meteorologists said the hurricane had turned to the east and wouldn’t affect the island as much as expected. The reports of heavy rains in my city went down and with a face full of disillusionment, I knew I had to go to school today and go take the big test (I wanted some rain to occur to cancel school, but the air was dry and hot, and the very white clouds didn’t want to cry on us). I didn’t post this yesterday, because I wanted some rest and time to study more. I’m writing this now under the rain that should have happened yesterday or the day before.

Now that I’m back, chapter 3 will begin this weekend. And with that I want to say that the role-playing does have a central story that will begin to unravel and develop soon. Even though it looks like I planned the RP as random monster and army encounters, I had a story in mind since the beginning, and the main villains are not plain old zombies or greedy bandits, there’s much more to it than that. You’ll see soon; I’m keeping it a secret, to not spoil the fun or surprises. Secrets may unfold and the plot may focus on certain characters, but every character and their story remains important to the whole story. Without them there wouldn’t be an Army of Light, the story would be one-sided and self-centered, and the role-playing would be co-writing.

On another topic, I’m thinking of making a new blog, to start anew and make it more personal and less strict on music/game reviews (that way I could just post what I feel like writing and not having to analyze the lyrics or looking for anything). I want to give more in return to my visitors (besides songs and sprites/tiles), and for that WordPress won’t help much (since it prohibits most html, and I want to give codes out for things like RNGs, calculators and other web tools, mini-radios and various widgets). No matter which host I choose there is always something missing, but I’m making a decision and taking chances (a blog somewhere else might fail). Like on every announcement I make, I want to know your opinion. What do you think I should do with the new blog? Make it on a new host or make it on WordPress and forget about giving html codes for my visitors? If you think I should keep doing it on WordPress, should I just re-do Mercenarylight’s Blog, that’s about to get 19,000 hits this weekend? Besides that, what do you think my new blog should have? Anything else you'd ant to say, note, criticize or comment about, post it below.

Second Update

Posted by Mercenary of Light (Admins) at Sep 27 2008, 03:23:35 PM. 16 comments

This is yet another update on the site and game.

First thing is we’ve gotten a lot of members recently (a new member each day), so to help organize, I’ll give all new members a choice to select between joining a pre-chapter/chapter after posting their profile or waiting a few chapters in the Main Story and participating in the Elite Forces campaign right now. In Elite Forces, you make your own teams and stories with your main character as leader (read my example team profile for more info on teams). In Elite Forces, you make teams based on your main character, your main assistant (if you don’t have one for the Main Story, create one for EF and post the profile there) and other team members you create for EF alone. You can then create your own adventures or take a part of ones I make. You need to agree with at least another member to make your own adventures, since your teams will fight together or against each other (pm me first). Based on how well developed and long it takes for the EF campaign, will be how much EXP your main character gains for the Main Story (abstaining from one chapter in the Main Story might give you more EXP on EF). For the sprites and tiles needed to make your own map, click here.

Also, form the sixteenth member onwards (up to Aya-Tsuki), nobody will get Assistant’s Aid unless they help me in coding.

Last, for the site, does anyone want an extra section to the board?

Also, since some of you might be suspicious as to whether there’ll be a game or not, here’s a screenshot of the test game on Program 1. There’s not much in it, and the enemies don’t have AI yet (I’ll add it after I add a turn/movement control system). Right now the game runs like an RPG and not a tactical RPG like I want to make it. Any comments will be received.

I know you have some doubts, complaints, comments or suggestions, so post them below. If you're reading this, I would like to see your opinion.

Map of Ekarode

Posted by Mercenary of Light (Admins) at Sep 13 2008, 09:54:25 PM. 11 comments

Today, I finally finished the map of Ekarode I started last night. That will give you an idea of the geography of the continent and might help new members to choose their nation and make their character's backstory (for more info on the nations and their geography, read the Prologue to the story).

It was a lot of work pulling it together into my original idea. I couldn't find good trees to represent the forests, so I used different shades of the same color. Nightwood, Citileford and Hara Tougen all have large areas of forests, but Citileford is mostly covered in grasslands and shrublands (most forests were chopped down to build more cities), Nightwood's forests are much denser and Hara Tougen's forests are mostly separated taigas. The white area in the south represents the desert. The largest river in the continent, the Grand River, descends from the highest peak in the continent, Eleti's Peak, passing through three nations and flowing towards a small bay in Citileford, named Delta Bay after the delta the river ends in. Yoenne Bay connects Aoiwoi's southwestern coast with Nightwood, providing the fastest way of traveling between Citleford and Nightwood, without having to go through the Continental Division mountain range. Aoiwoi originally had more land (having all of the desert area), but "The Smiling Cat" surrendered a great part of the land to Citileford.

So, what do you think of the map? Is it illustrative or unnecessary? Was the description informative or worthless?

First Update

Posted by Mercenary of Light (Admins) at Aug 3 2008, 12:31:46 AM. 0 comments

I'll sometimes make an update to tell you important things regarding the site or the game.

-I closed Music/Games Hybrid Mix to focus on developing this forum; I added a Music section to General Discussion in return.

-The RPG's still in development, but the strategy part of it still needs to be implemented. Right now it would work as a normal RPG or even a MORPG with some work. Movement restrictions, letting you control more than one character (the hardest part), making enemies with (simple) AI, buying stuff (in shops/armories), and many other features aren't ready yet as I'm trying to create the code (figuring out something I've never done before). I know it's possible, in time it will be realized.

-Graphics are not a main problem right now, since I'll use some based on the FE games (which I have to resize). If you're good at spriting and have some time, contact me and you could start doing some of the new sprites. You could also do maps for chapters in the role-playings here (if you like map-making). The story's still in progress (the coding will probably be finished first) and you can help by participating in the Main Story RP or pming me for plot ideas.

For new members

Posted by Mercenary of Light (Admins) at Jul 19 2008, 01:35:31 AM. 0 comments

Welcome everyone to the Army of Light RPG forum. I'm Mercenary of Light, the creator of the RPG series and administrator of this forum. This forum is based on the games I'm currently developing that members and other visitors will then be able to play. The series is based on tactical/strategy role-playing games like Fire Emblem and Advanced Wars (mostly FE), but with an original story, new characters and some different gameplay/visual aspects. You get to submit at least one character for the RPG (which you will create and develop in this forum’s role-playings) and submit your ideas for it.

I recommend you do these steps to make your character(s) and start participating:

-Read the rules and agree to them.

-Read the instructions and FAQ’s before selecting a class for your main character (Just read the Classes, Tips and FAQ's posts if the rest sound confusing). If you need any help selecting a class or want to submit an original one, contact the admin or staff, or post here.

-Read the prologue to fill you in on the story (and to help select your nation).

-Make a profile for your character and post it in the Profiles/Stat Sheets forum . Here are some examples on how to make one.

-Participate regularly in the Army of Light Campaign to develop your character’s personality and personal story. If you can’t participate for long/short periods of time, you may leave your character(s) in charge of a trustworthy member. Briefly introduce your character or his/her motive for joining in your first topic of the Main story, or contact the staff or another member to work out a way to introduce your character into the story. After each chapter ends, participants gain EXP and a prize usually shared with everyone (mostly money).

-After you do those steps, you may start doing other things like making guilds or clubs, creating an assistant for your main character (and participating in Elite Forces), etc.

-When the test or first RPG is ready, I will provide a link to the software’s site, you join in (registration is free) and then you’re able to play as your favorite characters from the RPs, including yours.

→There are a lot of cool features in this forum (besides the RP) like a personal message system, blogs (here's mine where I'll write sometimes about the site or myself), a calendar, groups, a skin selector and other things. Hope you always enjoy your visit and remember the staff and I are always here to help.
