regardless of political leanings and the fact it was the american elections did anyone watch any of it last night/this morning?

obviously im not an american, but i dont think you can overstate how historically important this is. while it wont dissolve some of the american atrocities from the past it goes a long way to cement its place as a country of genuine chance for all citizens

the cynic in me thinks one man cant change everything, but from seeing his speeches he has an air of jfk about him. (the charisma and eloquence, not the mafia ties and adultery...lol)

lets just hope he can keep to his policies

I put the news on as soon as I woke up to see the result. I can't say I'm surprised. When I was in New York in September you couldn't move for Obama images on TV, banners, tshirts, bags, bumper stickers...

I think the man has brought a great sense of optimism for the future. Both for the US and anyone directly effected by their political actions (ie everyone). After so long under an unpopular and unsuccessful administration it's a breath of fresh air.

I actually feel quite sorry for Obama and his family though. They'll no longer be able to live anything resembling a normal life and will still be a target even when he eventually leaves office. Is it worth it for progress? Well, the fact that he is willing risk so much shows what a great man he has the potential to be. History is made by such men.

Now if they could just fix the world economy...
