Went to see My Sisters Keeper last night. Firstly guys, there were no men there, so be prepared to be surround by crying, sobbing women. I've read the book and I cried. I've seen the film, and I didn't. It was good, but it seemed drawn out, and was just two hours of a bald girl explaining that she was dying. Quick low down...Kate has cancer. Her sister Anna was conceived by the parents and genetically 'modified' to ensure her body parts would be an ideal match for sick Kate to prolong her life. Anna decides to sue her parents so she doesn't have to donate anymore body parts - her kidney at this time. Dilema...can she let her sister die to prove a point to her parents. I'm sure everyone knows the outcome of this film within the first fifteen minutes. Lets face it, there are only two possible outcomes - Anna wins and Kate dies. Anna loses and Kate lives after getting her kidney. The tone of the film within that first fifteen minute period kinda leads you to guess the end. If your other half has read this book, then i'd say warn her that she may be disappointed. The film lacks the suspense and surprise that filled the book. If she hasn't read the book, then tell her to see the film cos she'll probably like it, but recomend she go with another female friend as they'll be able to have a good cry together. |
