OK I know its quite old, but was looking around in Asda on Saturday, and saw this on bluray for £30 and according to review it's a must buy. <--- Read the review for more insight, I'm just giving a brief opinion on it through my eyes First off I'm usually not a fan of WW2 stuff and I didn't really like Saving Private Ryan, but again £30 is a bargain so I was drawn in...lol, and I'm glad I was, not only does it look sublime in hi-def, and also quite gruesome in parts i.e when a guy gets his leg blown off, its also extremely entertaining. Now its based on a really group, Easy Company, but to be honest I'm not sure how much is true, I've yet to watch the documentary thats included. If more than half of it is true though then you gain a whole lot of respect for this group of men Of course being from HBO it's very American with little mention of the rest of the army, only a few brief run in with some Brits would let you know that they were even involved, although as I said it does just focus on one company so almost everyone else is ignored too. That going against it, I'd still say if you have £30, hdtv and a bluray player get to Asda and buy this right away Edited by hobbes, Mar 4 2009, 04:06 PM.

My dad was a big war buff so I grew up watching this kind of thing and watched the series on it's original broadcast. I thought very highly of it so bought the DVD boxset when it came out. I've watched it all around three times since then. It's brilliantly made but it's not perfect, as you say it's very American-centric, with only a dumb British tank platoon turning up around episode 3 to cause explosive bother for our heroes. But it is apparently a very accurate representation of what really happened to Easy Company and you come away realising what a tremendous waste of life the whole thing was, particularly in the opening episodes with entire fleets of planes full of troops going up in flames before they'd even landed in enemy territory. A true TV classic. Shame I can't experience it in HD and my girlfriend is making me wait until the Easter sales for my HDTV : |
