Last updated: 6 September 2009 Status: WIP Introduction: This is the guide for how to access different features of the Admin CP to preform basic administrative tasks, more advanced tasks, as well as how to edit specific features. To first access the Admin CP, scroll to the top of the page on which you have cp access, and along the top bar, between the "Sign out" link, and the "Report CP" link is the "Admin CP" link. Click on it, and you will have to reenter your username and password (unless you have already told your browser to remember these items, which is *not* recommended for use on computers for which more than one person has access to). You will then be redirected to the Admin CP, and from there, the following instructions will tell you how to preform a multitude of tasks. Parts: Part I: Editing Members Part II: Banning Part III: Board Customisation (emoticons and avatar gallery management) Part IV: Groups, Joinable Groups, and Group Permissions Part V: Forum Management (forums & subforums) Part VI: Autotools Management & Creation Part VII: Domain Management Part VIII: Theme/CSS Modification Edited by James Norrington AG, Sun 6 Sep 2009, 21:33:59.

Part I: Editing Members A. Editing one member at a time On the left hand side of the CP, along the menu will be a subsection titled, "Users & Groups". Immediately under that will be "Member Search", click on "Member Search." ![]() The Admin Welcome page will now be replaced with the Member Search page. At the top will be a part to search by all or part of a username. Type in the username of the member, and hit "Member Search" at the bottom of 'and/or locate members by profile data.' ![]() A new page will come up listing the members who matched your search criteria. Look for the member you wish to edit, and on the right side of the page are listed three member options: "Ban Options" , "Moderator Abilities" , and "Edit". Click on "Edit". ![]() You will now be brought to a page that will look like this below: ![]() ![]() The first part of that allows you to edit general settings, while the second part will allow you to edit a few fields of their profile. *You cannot edit both at once, you will have to pick to edit one of the other, or access their profile again to edit the other part* For General Settings, you may change the member's title, their post count, remove their ability to PM members, and change their signature (in case their signature was in violation of the rules). You additionally have the option to change the member's group (and as an extension their posting permissions). ![]() At the basic level, in order to change their group you want to go to the part labeled "Member of Group" and select from the drop down menu which group you want them to be a part of. Once you have selected their group, all you need to do is scroll down and hit "Edit Member" and you will have changed their group. Beneath "Member of Group" is the "Alternate Group" Option. This acts as a "permission mask" meaning that if you select another group from in here, it will override the previous group membership and grant the person the posting permissions of the newly added group. For example, say, you take Member A, who is nothing more than just a regular member. You set them in the regular member group, but then select from "Alternate Group" "Admin Forum Mask, they will show up as a member, but will be able to enter the admin CP, mess around with it, and moderate posts--essentially they will become admins by doing this, and they will be able to see all hidden forums. Part II: Banning There are two methods for banning. To ban a specific user/username, it is recommended to use method 2. To ban by IP address or email address, use method 1. In some cases you may wish to ban an individual's account as in method 2, and then ban their email as in method 1. A. Method 1 On the left hand side of the CP, along the menu will be a subsection titled, "Users & Groups". A couple of spaces below that will be one titled, "Banning". Click on it. ![]() You will be brought to a new pag. In the first part are a list of IP Addresses that are already banned, and the option to remove the ban on them. Below the IP addresses, are banned email addresses. You will also have the option to remove banning on them. Finally, at the end is where you can add IP addresses (in their entirety or only a portion of) to ban, email addresses to ban (part or whole), and you may reserve names, or keep keep users from registering under certain names. Banning by IP addresses is the most extreme method of banning, and not the best. Due to how ISPs provide IP addresses, one person may have multiple IP addresses, and IP addresses can serve multiple people. For some people, it is as easy as restarting an internet router, and they will get a new IP address, and thus will be able to circumvent an IP address ban. People can also use internet proxies to mask their IP address, and avoid the IP banning, or even download special software that will allow them to mask it themselves. Combined with how easy it is to change one's IP address it is not a preferred method for banning people. Banning by email is better (even though one can always create a new email), and banning an individual's account (as seen in method 2, below). B. Method 2 On the left hand side of the CP, along the menu will be a subsection titled, "Users & Groups". Click on "Ban Options" . ![]() This will bring you to another menu, where you can ban the account of the individual, for a certain number of hours, days, or indefinitely. There is also a space to message the individual (to tell them why they are banned for whatever amount of time decided).

BLARGHDEMAYHEM; I'm searching around for a good admin CP guide, to help some of my fellow moderators, but all the sites I've visited are unfinished. Delete this comment if you wish, but it seems by the date this will never get finished. |
