Vorstag was short-lived, but fun while he lasted.

He had plans to steal Daeric's galleon so he would be able to dominate the waves with his fleet of Drakkars and raiders.

On the side, Vorstag was trying to have women pop kids out like crazy so he could have a battle between them all around turn 12.  Winner would be heir, losers Vorstag would bloodtheft for being unworthy of his line :)

He was pretty straight-forward.  He loved battle, loot, and women (not necessarily in that order).

His raid on Aglamar was supposed to be another battle with Daeric, but someone convinced him to go after Aglamar instead.

Around the same time he got involved with Amara for what he thought was a fling...but it might have turned him into a thrall.  And the timing of that coincided with his trip to the Avani temple.  So with a Wis of 0 - he was a lot more reckless than normal and bit off more than he could chew (by one swing---almost had that darn paladin!!!  Especially if had received any amount of 'cheating' help from his allies).
I seek to crush my enemies, see them driven before me, and to hear the lamentations of their women.

Amara was evil, but only just so. She never betrayed anyone or acted against her the interests of her allies, although there were some temptations. I honestly wonder if CN would have been a better alignment for her. She was evil initially so she could get the extra gold bars. At the end, with a dying Daeric begging to be bloodthefted (she had bloodsilver), she saved his life instead. She was also five oaths wizard, and hated undead. Even if she broke the five oaths bond(she thought she probably could), as an enchanter, necromancy was a barred school, so there was no reason to seek to do so.

I envisioned her a Succubus to be when I started with an Azrai bloodline and a 20cha, and when I ended up getting a demonic bloodline(thank you Kurt for lending me the magic weapon to bloodtheft the Balor), it all fell into place for me.

She only cast 2 realm spells the entire game, one supremely useful gold rush (it hit all of the SR regents...), and in the end, one spell worth of ogres. While I was able to dismantle the sidhe source network, fundamentally, i don't feel Amara made much of a difference in the game. She was just the SR wizard. If there had been no wizards and no sources, I'm sure the game would have been the same.

She adventured at least 2x a turn up until the great contest war with the Sidhe, at which point, all of her actions were put towards create source, contest source, invest source..which actually bankrupted her. She had to borrow money from Fulcrum to afford the source conflict. Towards the end, all adventures were suicidal only(auto-success). She had a lot of lieutenants, and room for more.

The only real "plot" she had going on, was that she discovered bloodsilver, knew bloodsilver was the dragon's weakness, but didn't admit to having bloodsilver, for fear of someone else going on a bloodtheft spree and surpassing her. She wanted Seloria to be free of Ruornil, and become the Goddess of the Torova, and she was willing to give her a bloodsilver spear to make it happen, but Seloria was too "good" to want to be a Goddess, she just wanted to serve Ruornil.

She liked Vorstag, used him as a lover, and only enthralled him when she felt she had no choice. She missed him, and built a small statue of him in her old capital in Estholme. She had one child by him, and she ended up raising his dozen bastards in her court. She admired Marek, and thought of him as her Pope so to speak.

She always had an undetectable alignment up, as she had to deal with Paladins from time to time.

I met all my character goals with Amara. Everything she set out to do, was done(Except that she wanted Wulf to suffer..and she never quite had time to do it).

This is the 2nd game in a row where my character lived as they wanted and achieved their main goals.

Here's Wulf's bio write-up. It explains a lot of his goals and motivations.

Quote:

I was born some time in the late fall of 506. I am not sure of the precise day. It was aboard a ship, at night, tossed by a storm. The crew had been struggling to keep the ship afloat for days, and had no time for time-keeping. I like to assume it was on mid-winter's eve. It has a poetry to it that appeals to me.

I was the fifth son of Albrecht von Blutstein and his wife Gerta, of the village of Blutstein. I was born into Blutstein's most prominent family. The family was a normal-seeming guilding family in a normal-seeming Brecht town. Located on the coast of the Kracenauer, Blutstein specializes in the production of food-stuffs and secrets.

I was my mother's "blessing". I born under Ela's sky atop Niera's sea, but I was also born to a woman believed to be past her child-bearing years. She called me "thrice-blessed." I couldn't disagree. I was significantly younger than my brothers. The nearest to my age was 12, while the oldest was already married with children. My father, however, took a particular liking to me.He saw some glimmer of my future greatness, I imagine. I was given every privilege and granted every indulgence. My father even looked the other way when the temptress Fionna- my beautiful sidhe-witch- and I started a dalliance in my 16th year. A scandal that would have been intolerable from one of my brothers was laughed off with me. I had something my father wanted. My father always got what he wanted.

I began my training in the family business at the age of 12. My father trained me as a brewer, having me oversee alcohol sales and transportation. We did business from Sendoure and the Shire to Rzhlev, though the bulk of our product was sold in the large cities of my native Muden. It was a good way to spend a youth, and I learned much. In my 21st, year, though, all that had to be set aside. My father had determined that it was time to be initiated into the family's mysteries.

You see, "Blutstein" isn't just a family or a village name. It is also our secret. The village was built almost a millennium ago atop a large blood stone of Azrai. While most do not know the true purpose of the village, the town elders have long guided the town through the auspices of the Brotherhood of the Shrouded Dawn. The Shrouded Dawn has long sought to divine the purpose of the bloodstone. As the only blooded family in the village, the von Blutsteins lead through this shadowy organization.

I set aside my trade, and took up the purpose father intended me. I began studying the arcane secrets passed down within the family for centuries. During this period of intense study, my lover Fionna moved on. This caused me to throw myself ever deeper into his studies. It was during these intense studies that I received a vision from the blood stone. I have long been gifted with the spirit-sight. I know how sick the Spirit Land is. What the stone's vision revealed to me, however, was that this sickness is caused by the split, and that this was the fate of this world as well- unless I could figure out how to heal the rift and bring the two worlds together. I always knew I was destined for great things, but never did I think my destiny would be to save all life. Imagine the reverence with which my name will be spoken! Imagine the glory!

My father died a few years after my initiation. My brothers took over the family business while I was left to lead the Dawn. They supported the order, leaving me to my research. Some time later, I was awoken one morning by a servant. Apparently, Fionna had returned long enough to leave a package- a small child- and a note, reading, "It is yours- do with it what thou wilt." In all honesty, I considered drowning it at first- a great task like mine could afford no distraction. In the end, though, the boy had my eyes. I couldn't destroy what could be my legacy, even if he was a half-breed. I took him in, found a wet-nurse, and named the boy Wulfgang in my honor. As it happened, the nurse came with a boy, and Wulfgang grew up alongside his milk-brother. He was so fond of the nurse's son that I took him in when she later died during a plague. The boy, Detlev, was raised to be a servant and aid to my heir and legacy. As with most of my decisions, it proved to be wise and full of foresight.

My progress was slow but steady. However, lesser minds grew increasingly jealous about what they termed "escoteric", or, worse "frivolous", pursuits. Later, they slandered what they could not comprehend, calling it "frightening" and "dangerous". Their petty, long-held grudges eventually came to a head, and my brothers took to threats. They demanded that I hand over leadership of the Brotherhood to them and leave Muden, and that if I did they would provide me with a generous amount if money. If I didn't, they would cut me off and denounce me. I knew that their threat to do the latter was empty- it would ruin our family's name- but the threat to cut off the money was a danger I could not risk. Reluctantly, I took the money and left. My work was too important.

Rumors of Torova reached me soon thereafter. The promise of wealth filled the minds of many, and I was able to parley my wealth and family name into state support for a venture. Torova seems the best place to see to a rebirth of the Brotherhood, and the completion of my work. Everyone is depending on me.

Wulf was a Shadow Mage, which I postulated is the sort of magic Azrai taught to the Lost before Diesmaar. The reason his family practiced that kind of magic is because he was a descendant of one of the Lost, and the family was secretly devoted to Azrai. So, one part of Wulf's character was a "Call of Cthulu"-esque "normal on the outside/f-ed up on the inside" dynamic. Wulf was also a sociopath who tried to use everyone around him. Wulf needed information to conduct his research and many Bothans PCs died in pursuit of this information. Wulf was also a terrible person to have on your main adventure. First, he often stole treasure from the collective (for example, he stole an extra enchantment from the pool on the first main adventure and a bunch of gems on the adventure with the Serene Republicans where he made an enemy of Amara.) More importantly, Wulf used the adventures as an opportunity to present himself as an ineffectual and mostly harmless buffoon to the other regents so people would ignore him. Because of that, he mostly went along and used his crossbow (which he wasn't very good with) and only used his magic secretly to help him get extra treasure. Also, people tended to die more often when he was around, though that was mostly not his fault- though he didn't plan on letting Vorstag survive their adventure together if he could help it (he would have cheated to help the paladin if he had to) and Fox/Wulf were planning on murdering Gregor if he had managed to escape the Kingdom people.

He was stand-offish mainly because he was worried that people would try to stop him if they figured out what he was up to. That is why he tried to keep his distance from both factions for as long as he could. He took research actions the same way Amara took adventure actions, and most of his money and RPs wound up being sunk into research actions. He wound up conducting a lot of weird experiments, many of them designed around trying to figure out how to manipulate and ultimately create the magic strands that bound the dragon/demon blooded people. He eventually figured out how to fuel the pools without using souls by feeding his bloodline into it instead, and was selling immortality to people on the mainland for money and magical resources. Wulf controlled the light/dark pool from the Paladin of Avani adventure (he got that as part of the deal he made with the Giants) and used that to keep himself ever youthful and wise (physically youthening himself, mentally aging himself). He also transformed himself into a half-vampire that could drink people's bloodlines, though he never really had much interest in doing that. He could spend blood points to bind people to him like the Dragon could by using his fangs to inject part of his bloodline into them. I never actually got to do that, and wanted to know if it would give people a "Wulf" bloodline. Oh well. He also kept plugging away at trying to merge the Shadowlands and the Daylands, and after he learned how to cast Shadow Block began conducting research to develop a reverse of the spell.

Obviously, he was originally the "Master of Shadows" and used them as a front for his magic activities. However, on the adventure into the Cave of Wonders, everyone got a doppelganger of themselves. The trick was that the two shared a soul, and only one could leave alive. Wulf loved himself and his family above all else, though, and also loved a challenge. So, Wulf and his doppelganger (named Fox) decided to work together to make sure both of them could get out. Ultimately, they wound up stealing Gregor's soul after both Gregor and his doppelganger died, and Fox made that soul his own- which, of course, means that Wulf stole the souls of both of Sam's characters, because he also (with Dannagh) stole the soul of his half-elf Belinite in order to fuel the magic of the pool and give Wulf youth. After they both escaped, Wulf gave Fox all his sources and let him become the Master. Fox was a full vampire, which made Wulf even more pro-undead than before. Fox was the only person Wulf really and truly respected, because it was himself.

He did genuinely like a few people: Hans (especially after his ruthlessness against Dannagh/Cairn), Kalina, and Uryens. He was also very attached to his family and anything that reminded him of himself. However, he always saw them first and foremost as useful. Both Kalina and Wulf got turned into half-plant people on the adventure into the giant tree, and Wulf was hoping to eventually set his wife aside and try to start a new race of plant-people with Kalina as an experiment. For the most part, though, he spent the game trying to figure out how to do what Azrai wanted him to.

Background from gamestart.

Quote:

Third son of the Count of Tier, Cairn´s status as high nobility was never in question. But neitehr was the fact that his children in turn, would be little more then landless vagabonds, noble or not, unless he gained lands of his own from somewhere. Much thought went into this, and he made overtours towards several noble young ladies, foremost of them the lone daughter of the Baron of Ciliene. A grand catch, bringing with it one of the foremost noble titles in Diemed she was much sought after, but young Cairn managed to impress both her father, and the young lady herself. It looked like a promising future was forming for the young lord.

Then, disaster struck. One of the children of Heirl Diem had the same thought as Cairn, and did his best to woo the fair lady himself. The competition soon went ugly, and eventually, a duel was fought. Unfortunately, an hiherto unknown blood ability showed itself in Cairn that day. When faced with his rival, divine wrath came forward, and in its grip he quickly defeated, and slew the youngest son of Heirl Diem. What´s worse, some reported that the young Diem attempted to surrender near the end, wich Cairn in the grip of his fury ignored.

Only his reputation and his fathers influence saved his life, but he could not escape fully. Cairn Tier was Exiled from Diemed, and spent a few years as a mercenary, gaining modest fame for his skill and ruthless persecution of his objectives. In the end, he was hired by a wealthy merchant to mount an expedition to find and take the mineral wealth of the frozen island of Torova Temylatin. The merchant however, put to much of his time into this project, and was assasinated by a rival. Again it seemed, close to his goal he would lose it, but it was not to be. Taking advantage of teh paranoid merchants lack of a written record, he took the material and troops set aside for the colonization, and left alongside his long time mercenary allies, Knute Watershold the dwarf, and the magician Breeze Ladrian, in his own name instead of the merchants.

Landing on the island, he imidiately named the area after himself, Cairns landing. After spreading, the second was named for his dwarf ally, while the Magician Breeze declined having the third named after himself, instead naming it Firwood. This ended up being almost prophetic.

The exception to this was the ships, wich, while he was able to get access to them to funnel all his equipment and people to Torova, he did not manage to convince the captains to remain in his service.

The second year of the colony, a group of uncivilized brecht brutes having settled to the north of watershold came chargins, howling like barbarians, driving out the Anuirean leaders. The army of Cairn Tier struck back quickly, retaking it. Not satisfied with a blooded nose, the Brecth barbarians struck again, this time on Firwood. Deciding to strengthen the position of Cairns Landing and Watershold rather then to fight a prolonged battle at this time, Cairn drew back, being well aware that he left the Brecht brutes from the north in a difficult position, splitted. Fully intending to eventually place the heads of their rulers on spikes on his borders, as a warning to others

Cairn didnt do so much. was mostly forced to react.

At first, when joining the dragon, I decided I would work to try and be the one to wake her, so I could kill/bloodtheft her while I was in her mind.

I did get to be the one to wake her, but right before the whole contest shit happened, and Cairn realized he was royally fucked without the dragon, so he didnt. Plan was to simply keep the artifact, beome ageless through her magic, and kill her next time she had been sleeping instead;)

Oh, and I did(or rather, my dwarf LT did) create a false stone tablets wich I kept in my treasury, wich claimed the dragon had a weakness to bloodsilver(was actually the dragon who suggested that, I was thinking of some poison or something first) ;)
Then I sent a letter to Von Haffern(wich the dragon knew about), claiming I had a way to kill her, and saying that I would do so if he swore fealthy. Ofcourse, I knew he would decline. It was just to make them aware of a faked dragon weakness I had crafted.
And yep, the next turn there was a breakin and the tablet was stolen Suprise! ;)

All in all, lawful, and should perhaps have gone neutral. dont know. Cairn himself didnt really do anything evil, but he did ignore stuff done by allies(mostly gregor).

He absolutely hated Daereic Buired after being betraeyd by him(they had talked about friendship, helping eachothers, and that Buired should found a temple in Western torova capital. In the same turn Buired shipped the serene army to backstab us, I think part of the discussion was even after but before Cairn found out.

Was at war with the brecht to the northwest since the pregame bidding. Not much to say about that. Grubber was hate-object number 2 when he slaughtered everyone living in a province with the serene and wulfs help.

Hated hold person (oh so many times I wanted to be given free action - sadly, Im a warrior, and cairn didnt know of such spells so didnt ask about it. And my wiz/priest allies never thought of it.

Not that much to say. Killed Gregor in the adventure where Wulf got the cloak, when we through espionage knew where and entered. Unfortunately we guessed at the wrong room, or we would have entered a fight with Wulf and his group too, wich likely would have ended badly for them (we had the elven regents along).

Not much else to say.

At the last part there, Cairn entered the dreamworld when held when Amara started to look at him hungrily with that dagger, (just mental so could when held). Once the hold released he then returned. Told GM that if it was a fight going on still, or they where otherwise weakened, hed rejoin the fighting, (was considering that either wulf would do something, or seloria go after amara with dragon/demon mind influence).

If not, he wouldent attack them all, but grab the dead dannagh, and dissapere again, to use an artifact he had to ressurrect her.

After the game... well, he would only join the Magian if he thought he and dannagh had some weakness they could exploit. He wont go in there just to get back at Serene. Then its more likely he´ll just grab what resources they still have, and try to convince Dannagh, Valya and Ilya to go settle Thaele or maybe some corner of Aduria, or find some some realm far away to take over.

If not for Buired and Marek, he might even have made a deal and stayed openly, if promises was made with ways to detect lies around(simple treaty wouldent be enough after the non-agressiontreaty was broken by Von Haffern.)

TP - Teodor Profiev
Member Avatar

Teodor 'the Younger' Profiev was the son of another Teodor Profiev, the one listed in the characters of the original rulebooks. Teodor 'the Older' was slain by Wincae Raehech through manipulations by Drago Malik. A paladin of Haelyn and abject anshweghlien hunter excised by a man who would have preferred alliance had he known the truth of the deception. Prior to Teodor 'the Olders' death though, he had taken a Vos wife and child, leaving only when Drago made his way to Anuire. Teodor 'the Younger' was raised by his mother and held his father's beliefs as his own. When word eventually reached Teodor 'the Younger' of his father's death, he made his way into the far-north, seeking to find a purpose to his life.

He had spent time in Daeric's islands, realizing they were far 'better' than the vile scum of Vorstag to the south. Leading a small band of insurgents and loyal soldiers, he decided to invade and overthrow the Black Isles. (Of course this only happened because Vorstag kicked the bucket...)

Teodor's arrival was prescient, as Vorstag had passed early in that year in some sort of mainland adventure, and so the land chose Teodor as its claimant. (I had not yet gotten around to designating Vorstag's heir and basically had to rebuy the domain as if new character. Hence, loss of ships and army and a lot of resources to Ilya who took off for parts unknown).

One of his first actions was to make nice with the regents around him, Daeric, Wulf, and the Serene Republic. He had 20+ bastards of Vorstag sitting in his palace and making him nervous. He didn't feel it right to kill them, they were only children, but he also knew they couldn't stay. So he cut deals and scattered them.

Teodor was a paladin inquisitor and avidly sought out word and stories about those who used evil magic. I wasn't allowed to use player knowledge though, so had to go through a long process of asking for stories and rumor-listening. Some effort at that was made at Gregor's wedding, but it was like pulling teeth to get any good 'finger-pointing' rumors to work with. He suspected Aglamar and Lady Sand of necromancy and continually was seeking more information to help have enough to put them to 'the question.' He may also have been an inquisitor because the 'Creator' wished him to have a chance against all of those nasty hold, charm, etc. spells running around (I feel you Cairn, Vorstag spent more time standing around in combat than anything!)

Then the giant/elf thing went down. Teodor honestly believed the giants were best due to their previous lawful society and the fact that the elves just felt wrong. He felt he could change things for the better, and to that extent he gambled (poorly it turned out) and offered his vassalage to the Serene Republic in return for their aid. They chose not to at that point, but when they were caught between the giants and elves post-wedding, they came to the aid of Teodor and he honored his agreement.

He knew the demon worship was wicked though and had a plan to challenge the high-priests champion, but a high-level giant fighter isn't challenged successfully at 6th-level. Cue Rocky-scene. Teodor adventured the heck from that point on, racking up levels as fast as he could to catch up (since he began at low-level again).

He also sought word on Gregor as the man was holding onto the only Holy Avenger Teodor knew about. And Teodor would liked to have used it (and he eventually got to touch it for a few minutes in the final turn LOL). Teodor focused on good, not law, and that was where he and Gregor parted ways I believe...or the fact that as soon as Teodor established High View he was essentially receiving ultimatums from Gregor to turn it over or else...or Gregor's assassination of Kurt and capture/rape/attempted murder of Seloria. Teodor truly thought Seloria and Marek were the stuff that held the Serene Republic together and did anything he could to assist them.

Teodor was the idealistic fool in the north. He never thought it could get as bad as it did. He believed he could bring down the giants old worship and give them a chance for their own religious choices. He thought the elves were truly bad, especially once it turned out they were like undead, creations of magic alone. He thought Wulf wasn't a bad sort and would have been horrified to find out how bad he was at the end...and the cost to everyone for his misplaced trust. He thought Cairn was just misguided by love, and Dannagh by her race. Lady Sand he was still sure was a necromancer, but by then it was too late. Same with Aglamar. And he liked Uryens (not even realizing Uryens father had helped to kill Teodor's father). Kalina was a good ally in his mind, other than the difficulty in being allowed to borrow the Holy Avenger. Kurt (and Marten after him) were good choices for his vassalage (since Teodor had offered it). Between Kalina and Kurt, Teodor was loaned something over 40 GBs to keep the Isles going. And a ton of RP from Kurt to boot. Kurt gave far more to Teodor than Teodor felt he was giving to the Republic, so he felt bad and was constantly looking for something to do to return the favors.

Then came the big end-all fight. Teodor was trying to remove Lady Sand and Dannagh quickly from battle, but he avoided bloodtheft. He considered responding in kind when Cairn bloodthefted Kalina, but the greater good called him to defeat the dragon...and then he got ate by the dragon - teach me to forget to ask for a stoneskin :)

thats odd. I had see invis 40 yards as a blood ability so invis or not doesent make any difference from Cairn ;). But I suppose he didnt look up at all then. Assume I rolled badly in some hidden roll, or he would ahve seen movement at the edge of his visions as a group flew above. especially since it wasent a stationary fight, hewas pushed around abit and moving around gregor, so just going behind his back by intention would ahve been pretty hard.
