King of France

For those good roleplayers but with scant historical knowledge out there, you should at least know that in 1000 A.D, the dominant type of governance was a system known as feudalism. Want to know what feudalism is? Feudalism in Wikipedia Since Anno Domini is based on the medieval age, feudalism plays a very big part in the game. For example, you might ask why France and the Holy Roman Empire are entire sections. Well, France during this period of history was a completely de-centralized state in Western Europe. The king had no power during this period and the so-called "Kingdom of France" was pure fiction. The Holy Roman Empire, although not as de-centralized as France was, was still based on separate allegiances to the Emperor in Aachen, the capital. All of these divisions show in Anno Domini, France is a collection of powerful duchies (the king has no control except over his own, which is the Duchy of Francia), and the Holy Roman Empire is a conglomeration of powerful kingdoms; although held together by an equally powerful Emperor.
