Lawrence made sure to consider Leo’s words as he continued to eat. It was true that this world was not only new, but strange to him and that there might be complications not only in learning about this dimension itself but also what could be found here. He was already taken aback by the light bulbs, the food, even the buildings outside looked foreign to him. Doing business here might be a whole new experience that, while an interesting venture that wasn’t entirely unwelcomed, could prove detrimental to his efforts of getting sturdy on his feet in what was fast becoming his new home for the present time.

When the Renamon tried to help by offering encouraging suggestions for work, each idea that came from her mouth was having an opposite effect, more of a knee to the groin than a helping hand up. The young merchant could feel himself slouching a little more with every proposal given by the white fox. He had been working as a merchant since his apprenticeship as a youth and it was his dream to own his own shop one day. Anything other than trading as a career went against his pride as a businessman and was totally out of the question. He appreciated the effort Luna was making, but the prospect of such a life didn’t suit his tastes at all.

“Yes, well, let’s not jump to anything rash before I’ve had a chance to get a feel for the place.” Lawrence responded with a nervous chuckle, before distracting himself for a moment by downing a few more gulps of his soda. “I’m sure I can adapt to this dimension; I’m nothing if not versatile.”

Leo nodded calmly and said, "That's probably a good idea. Until we can get a better understanding of this place, we can't go doing too much. While I'm sure Luna and I could handle anything Dangerous out there, we still don't wish to stir up any trouble we're not prepared for."

Luna then said, "That sounds fine to me Leo. I don't go looking for trouble anyhow, and if the people around here are like the owner of this place, we ought to do just fine." She smiled, then continued eating her buffalo wings.

Leo then looked at Laurence and said, "Anyhow, what kind of skills do you know that you think would be useful here? I sure you must be good at Trading things as a Merchant, and I could guess that you must know how to read and write well enough too. Maybe if you could learn to drive a motor vehicle, you could do a job similar to what you used to do at least."

Lawrence certainly knew about trading, that was his way of life. As for reading and writing, Leo had also hit the nail on the head with that one, though where Lawrence came from that wasn’t as obvious a skill as one might be accustomed. He was informally taught, both by himself and the man he apprenticed under, seeing as a merchant had to learn such things to handle documents, deeds and the like. That also meant, though, that he had no formal education. That was for the upper castes, the children of nobles who didn’t have to provide for themselves and could sit around all day discussing philosophy and the arts. In contrast he had plenty of ‘street smarts’ to compensate. He could definitely get by.

“I hope you’re right about that.” Lawrence answered with a chuckle as he leaned forward on the counter and chugged down more of his soda. Having no idea what a ‘motor vehicle’ was, he decided not to ask. He had enough to process at the moment, he was sure he could figure out what Leo meant if learning the skill was relevant to his future. “So, how about you two? Any marketable craft or skills of note?”

The young merchant did come from a time when one’s profession was a much stronger representation of themselves than even the modern era, so of course he was a little curious. The two talked about fighting, but unless there was a war going on at present that wasn’t a very viable business venture.

Luna then said, "Well, we're both good fighters! And we've handled some pretty rough situations back where we live. Err... lived." she rubbed her neck as she corrected herself.

Leo sighed, then said, "Yeah, and I've done a good bit of help with construction work. They really liked me because I'm strong, and don't have any fear of sunburn, heat exhaustion or dehydration. Heck, When I really go all out, I can be as helpful as some of their larger equipment!"

Luna then smirked and said, "Yeah, and when you guys are working in cold weather, they like to huddle around you as a heat source." She giggled.

Leo chuckled and said, "Yeah. I suppose that has happened a few times."
