Leo Listened, and shook his head. "I don't believe it's impossible, but I guess it won't be easy either if others have been trying to escape for so long..." He held his head over the table for a bit in dismay. "I guess the only options we have are to settle in for now, and keep our eyes peeled... I'm not giving up myself, but I don't want to dig myself into a hole either." he then leaned his head back and stared at the ceiling. He wasn't sure what he was gonna do really, other than find some way to get by in this world. Leo then looked at Lawrence and said, "Sounds like we truly are in the same boat... Both of us are stuck here, wanting to get back to someone we'd left behind... Sucks for us, doesn't it?" he then sighed. Edited by Wildheart, Jan 17 2010, 07:12 AM.

“I'm not familiar with your wording, but I think I understand the sentiment.” Lawrence answered with a chuckle in response to Leo’s last statement that the situation ‘sucked’. Of course he wanted to return home and continue his travels with Horo, but the young merchant had to face facts when they were dropped into his lap. If no one had found a way back up to this point, than uncovering such a path wouldn’t be an easy or short-lived search. In the meantime, he was going to have to start worrying about staying alive. He had a good deal of money on him from his past business trades, but he didn’t have his wagon on him, nor did he know the geography of this place. He also lacked all of his connections that he used to keep ties with. It would be difficult to pick up as a new merchant in an unfamiliar world; it was like starting all over again. It was kind of a depressing thought, but he would manage somehow. He was much more experienced this time around than he had been in his youth. “I suppose first things come first as always.” Lawrence continued, tapping a finger on the counter as he pondered in thought. “We’re going to need to find out how we’re going to manage to survive in this new world long enough to make it back home.” |

Leo nodded and said, "Yeah. You're right about that. We can't just go wandering aimlessly and hope we fall in some magic hole. We need to find a place to stay, a way to earn some income and food, then we can start figuring other things out as well. What I have for money might last us a week and a half at my best guess. I suppose Luna knows enough about surviving in the wild to support one other person besides her self, But I'd rather stay in town. I'd rather save that as a last resort if some of us can't manage." He sighed and leaned back. "But where do we begin? I'm not sure I can work the same job I did back in my own world safely... and Where can we possibly stay for an extended period of time?" |

“Well, I can’t help with all your problems, but if you’re desperate for a place to stay then there’s always the House.” The man behind the counter interjected, leaning in again; he seemed to be using the conversation as an excuse to take a break for a few minutes, seeing as the place wasn’t too busy at present. “What house?” Lawrence asked, curious as to how a house was going to help them. He had a good deal of change on hand, but wasn't sure if he had enough to purchase real estate. “What I mean is the House that overlooks this town.” The owner of the store went on. “This dimension is called the Anime Reality House and its name is taken from that place. As far as anyone can tell it’s the center of this reality. Anyways, it seems to be there for anyone who’s brought here and needs a place to stay. I hear the thing is like magic, you can’t break the place down without it putting itself back together and the food never runs short. There’s always a room waiting for anyone coming there to stay, too.” The man behind the counter paused for a moment, as if drumming up old memories. “All the townsfolk could live there if they wanted to. I figure we just settled down in this place because we wanted to cling to a little normalcy from our past lives.” He chuckled a little gruffly as he shook his head clear of his walk down memory lane. “The House is really your best bet. You secure shelter, food and other necessities at the same time.” |

Leo looked at the man and said, "Wow... That sounds pretty convenient. Almost supernatural. We're gonna have to check this place out. It ought to be much better than napping out in the woods, or in an alley." He looked to Lawrence for a bit and said, "So At least there's a bright side to this place. I was thinking we'd end up worse off." He then looked back up to the man behind the counter again as he said, "There anything else we should know about this place, or the people who might live there?" |

Lawrence listened with interest to the man behind the counter as he mentioned the house, though he didn’t share his opinions out loud at the moment. It was surprising him that he wasn’t knocked off of his barstool every time he heard about magical happenings like being brought here and a self-sustaining house. Maybe he was mildly desensitized due to his interactions with Horo, but he thought he was doing remarkably well at the task of holding strongly onto his sanity in the wake of impossible happenings. “Other things of note, huh?” The store owner mused while tapping his chin in thought. “Well, most of the people here are your average, down-to-earth folk. Still, this dimension tends to draw in some real strange characters with bizarre powers. Not all of ‘em are friendly individuals, so watch out for them.” “I had a question.” Lawrence popped in as he leaned on the counter. “It’s been bugging me since we got here. You were willing to deal in both mine and Leo’s currency, even though you didn’t recognize the coins I had on hand. I take it you’ve never seen them before, which means they might not exist in this dimension. If that’s the case, why accept them? There’s no market trust behind my money here so you’d be taking a loss.” “Eh? Another businessman was brought here, huh?” The man behind the counter asked with some joviality. “Well, I guess I’ll fill you in, then. When people started getting pulled into this place from their respective dimensions, this town’s economy became a unique circumstance. The town’s people as a whole came to an agreement to trust in any currency new arrivals brought with them, so long as they could get a good estimate of the worth. In this way our town has a very loose exchange program when it comes to money so your coins will earn you their approximate full worth.” Lawrence was a little stunned by the implications, but decided that such an unusual system was possible when limited to a single town. He was also pleased to hear that he wouldn’t be taking a loss even when he didn’t have the governments from where he came backing the face value of his currency. As a merchant, he’d hate to find himself in the red from the moment he got here. |

Leo then said, "Hmm. So my bits would actually be worth something around here then. That's interesting. I might visit a bank somewhere to get it converted to some local tender some time, or just plain to the US cash I'm used to. It would make things much simpler at least." He took a moment to think when the owner mentioned that some individuals were strange and sometimes has special powers. He then said, "Hmmm... I wonder... Does some of these individuals you mentioned include those who aren't exactly human?" |

“Non-humans?” The man behind the counter asked, his tone casual for such an unusual question as that. “Oh, sure, loads of them. This dimension we’ve been brought to drags people away from all sorts of different worlds, more than you or I could count. A number of them have inhabitants that we would consider an unusual lot. For instance, I’ve heard speak of a talking red wolf wandering around these parts for a while now.” The store owner chuckled a little as he walked over to the cash register to pass some of the time of this slow business morning recounting what he’d earned so far that day. “You could say that Anime Reality House is the epitome of cultural mixing pots.” |

Leo then got up from his seat and said, "In that case, would you mind getting my other friend's meal ready? I think she'll be joining us now. Once I've called her." He smiled a bit before he went out to the door and outside briefly so he could call to his partner. "Luna! I think it's safe to come out in the open. You might as well come join us for dinner." Luna then appeared nearby by Leo, yet still out of general sight as she said, "You're certain of this Leo?" Leo nodded and said, "Yeah. We've also figured out a bit more about where we are, and that we're likely gonna be staying around for a good while..." |

The owner of the establishment hesitated for only a moment before nodding understandingly, as if he never stopped harboring the suspicions he had about the friend they had ordered food for. He’d duck into the kitchen to quickly fetch the buffalo wings and fries, along with the drink. As he disappeared into the back room, Lawrence turned to watch as Leo beckoned his fox partner to enter and join them. “I suppose this means that Luna doesn’t have to keep out of sight anymore.” The merchant commented, pleased for the Renamon. It might have proved for an uncomfortable time to be hiding from everyone while trapped in this foreign dimension. Their host would soon return behind the counter, dropping off the third order in front of an empty stool. When he was finally able to see Luna he would look mildly surprised and a little curious, but even this reaction would fade after a few moments had passed and he’d return to working around his station. Apparently what he said had been the truth, the people here really were desensitized to the strange and unusual. |

Luna watched the man's reaction with some surprise. While he did stare for a bit, he didn't stare long, and he went back to work as if nothing had happened. It's was a little different than she'd expected herself. She then sat down next to Leo at their table and said, "It seems that way. Apparently seeing a walking, talking fox isn't such a big deal around here. Perhaps those people who were staring at me and Leo before were just caught off guard or something." Leo then shrugged as he said, "Well, at least it makes things much easier on all of us. I know what it's like to go around hiding my own identity for safety. I once had to do it when I was at a place where digimon were captured by some strange task force." He took a sip of his drink. Luna then said, "That was back when you were a bit more of a dimension hopper right? Before you meet up with me?" Leo nodded, "That's right." |

Spoiler: click to toggle In a place like this Horo wouldn’t have to bother hiding her identity from anyone. Lawrence mused privately as he grabbed his glass of cola and took a few gulps. He quickly snuffed out the thought of his traveling companion before the memories started to sadden him, having enough to worry about in this new world at the moment without adding grief to the list. From what he gathered by Leo and Luna’s dialogue he came to assume that Leo was at least somewhat used to what was happening with this whole alternate dimension stuff. That probably explained why he seemed to handle the information with such a calm and level head about him while Lawrence had been shocked and needed a moment before he could respond to what he’d heard. As he grabbed his burger and took off a few more bites from the sandwich he pondered on what was in store for him in the future. Whatever it was, he’d have to learn to take it all in stride like Leo or he’d never get anywhere in such unfamiliar territory. Still, he was good at that, a merchant had to be quick on his feet and able to adapt, after all. “So, what’s next for the two of you?” Lawrence asked as he set down what was left of his burger and looked over at the two partners. “You have a plan about what to do next?” |

Leo heard Lawrence and said, "Hmm. Well, I'd like to check out this house that the manager there talked about. It should at least be a good place to set up and settle down for a while. Then the next step would probably be to explore, learn our way around, and maybe get some jobs so we can earn some money. From there, I have no idea. We're pretty much in the dark from there on. But then, I've never let that stop me before." Luna smiled and said, "That's my partner alright. You can't keep a good tamer down." She then gave Leo a hug before she resumed eating her buffalo wings. Her tamer had picked something pretty good for her too. She really liked these, though they were a bit messy with her fur, so she was being careful with them. |

“I wonder how large this new world is.” Lawrence ruminated aloud between chewing down on his burger. “All we’ve heard about is this town and that house. If this strange world is too small than there probably won’t be much profit in it for me to be traveling from settlement to settlement as a merchant. I might have to look into different business ventures if I want to earn some coin around here.” He considered asking the man behind the counter a little more, but he was off taking an order at one of the tables. It looked like the place’s business was starting to pick up and the three companions probably weren’t going to get as much one on one time for chitchat with the establishment owner. At least they had asked most of the questions most pressing on their minds. If they had any other questions they’d just have to watch for a lull in their host’s work activities to slip one in. “Whatever the case, I’ve run into some snags digging at my savings during the years I’ve been traveling and there have been a few times that I’ve had to start over.” The young merchant chimed up heartily, chugging down more of his remaining soda as he did so. “I can handle doing so once more, I suppose.” |

Leo then said, "Hmm. That could very well be possible. We don't know what else there is out there really. And I can imagine other such problems that a Dark ages Merchant might have in this world. We don't know what kind of trade system there is to this particular world, or if there's enough to even establish one. How would you transport goods from one place to another? What kind of new and unusual dangers are there to this world that lie outside this town? Not to mention the new kinds of technology you'd be working with and might have to learn. This could very well be a challenge like nothing else you've ever dealt with." Luna took a sip of her drink, then said, "Well, if all else fails, there's bond to be other simple jobs that he could manage. Maybe a shop clerk, Pizza delivery boy, Mail man, Waiter, Painter, gardener..." Leo chuckled a bit and said, "Well, I guess that would give him a good selection to fall back on, but something tells me he'll be trying to stick to his trade if he can." |
