Here's your generic favorites thread. Pretty much just talk about your and other's favorite TV shows here. There's only one rule though. The show has to be currently running. Yes, yes. Even though Firefly is a hundred times of awesome, we cannot talk about it since it is no longer running. If there are older shows you want to talk about you'll have to make your own new thread. Also try your best to use full paragraphs and not two-three sentence fluff. My newest love is Dexter on Showtime. Sadly since I never had that channel, I didn't even know it existed. Thankfully though through the persistence of one of my roommates, I finally decided to try the show out and found various streaming sites that have episodes up. And I must say, damn this is a good show. A very unique twist on the tired, old cop show. Pretty much Dexter is a forensic expert for the Miami police during the day, and a serial killer serial killer by night except totally more awesome than I just explained. This is a definite must see for anyone interested in crime dramas. And serial killers. My second love is Burn Notice. At first I wasn't too excited about the show. Only reason I was gonna watch it was for the almighty Bruce Campbell. Little did I know that it was freakin' epic! By far one of the best shows on TV today. It's got action, Bruce Campbell. humor, explosions, spy stuff, and BRUCE CAMPBELL! There aren't too many spy dramas out there and this one pulls it off nicely. Not entirely sure if they just make up all their spy info or they have a former spy giving them tips, but the situations and solutions they have are all amazingly awesome and genuine. It's not some gaudy spy show trying to be all cool while coming off extremely unbelievable. So yeah see this one as well. The third season just started last week so hurry and catch up! My last love isn't really a TV show per se. It's a whole channel. And that is the Discovery Channel. Pretty much all my other favorite shows are from there: Mythbusters, Survivorman, Dirty Jobs, and Man vs Wild. It's the perfect blend of information and entertainment. Whenever there is a new season out of any of those shows, I am always there, butt glued to the couch, eyes transfixed to the tv. I'm getting a little annoyed at the flood of new shows they are trying out though. Sure they're trying to find their next cash cow, but c'mon man tone it down a little. So yeah those're mine. What are yours? |

I'm not sure if this counts or not, but the Venture Brothers is all kinds of awesome. By far my favorite show, live action or animated on TV. Hilarious show, with some rather sophisticated themes, and about as many pop culture references as Family Guy, only much more clever and less intrusive (and obscure...often to the point of being esoteric). It starts off slow, but by the second season the story becomes really compelling as well (and ten times funnier). It's the best Johnny Quest/super hero/scooby doo/hardy boys/GI Joe spoof ever. What other show has characters based off Sandow the magnificent, Hunter S. Thompson, and David Bowie himself? Edited by ZiggyPop, Apr 3 2009, 10:41 PM.

... I do things, I don know and I run...

My favorite TV shows running, hm? I think I can oblige. I'm really into two British TV shows, Top Gear and The IT Crowd. Top Gear is one of the two major car shows on the BBC. Where Fifth Gear is more about facts and information, Top Gear couples the information with extreme entertainment. Any show that can do that deserve praise. The IT Crowd is a sitcom on Channel 4. The show centers around two IT professionals and their bosses, who don't know anything about computers. Comedy ensues... As for american TV shows, not a whole lot. I'll add to this if I can remember some of my favorites that are still running. |

C'mon man. Try a little harder.. I say this so that we can try to initiate a discussion and to make it look like we're actually having an intelligent discussion. This forum needs all the help it can get =/ |

I don't watch a lot of TV, but I guess out of all the shows running currently, I like Hell's Kitchen. Normally, I don't gravitate towards competition-based shows like this, but it gets kinda interesting. I think one reason I like it is because my dad watches a lot of cooking shows on UNC-TV and I'll sometimes sit down with him and check 'em out. 'Bout makes me want to go start up the stove sometimes. HK is kind of the same way. It's also pretty funny how Chef Ramsey goes apeshit with some of the contestants sometimes too (in a lot of cases, I can't really say I blame him for that). I guess I just like watching anything related to food or cooking....even though I don't cook much myself. |

Haha I find that kinda funny. I know a lot of people like this as well. What's funny is that I cook a shitton since I'm going for a culinary arts degree and yet I don't watch any show related to cooking. Not too sure why either. Used to eat that stuff up (pun intended?) but now I just don't find it all that interesting. Though to be fair I know a lot of culinary arts people that love those shows as well. Guess I'm just an anomaly. :3 Edited by Carwo, Jan 30 2009, 03:06 PM.

Unfortunately I don't watch much on TV anymore, but there's one that I absolutely love: Top Gear: Now this one is a rather odd choice for me. You see, I'm usually not huge on cars. This show however has not only kept my interest, but gotten me a tad into cars finally. Lance already said where it's from, but I'll add a bit more to what it is for anybody who doesn't know. Almost every episode there's a new car (usually super cars) that one of the three hosts test drives. During these tests, they tend to do a great job at making it easy for non gear heads to understand, and enjoy. They don't just spout out information on specs, which makes sure it's not boring. These cars are then driven around their test track to try and obtain the best time. My admittedly least favorite part of the show is Star in a reasonably priced car bit. Its exactly how it sounds so I'll not go into it. My favorite part of the show are the challenges. The producers (who at times seemingly hate their hosts by what they put them through), give the hosts a task that has ranged from driving across Africa in 2wd vehicles to turning cars into boats and taking them across the English Channel. The hosts are always picking at each other, and almost always have witty remarks about everything they do. The humor in the show is great, the cars they drive are awesome, and the challenges are always entertaining. |

My 3 main obsessions are as follows: Dexter (Was anyone else a little disappointed with the third season though? I had to use the first one as mindbleach after the finale.) Supernatural (Love them Winchester boys! And the angels... Nice twist!) LOST (Do I really have to explain this one? I can't get enough!) |

I just finished season 2 of Dexter a few days ago, so can't really comment on the third season. Was hoping after the awesomeness of the 2nd it would continue on, but I guess it won't. Here's hoping season 4 doesn't disappoint! |
