Just got done watching Babylon AD the uncut edition. At first I wasn't looking forward to it since I had heard it was not so great. So my expectations weren't all that high going in. But as I watched, I was happily surprised that it wasn't actually that bad. Semi-cheesy opening with one of the last scenes being shown first, then the movie rewinding back to the beginning. But after that it became a pretty cool movie. Had a bunch of cool action sequences including some weird free runners. The movie also had some pretty cool concepts behind it like its depiction of the world of the future and some of the future tech. So by the middle of the movie I was actually getting pretty into it.

But sadly that's where it tanked. There's one particular scene where everything goes to shit. One minute three characters are wary of each other. Then a semi-exciting action scene happens and the next moment all three of them are all buddy buddy. They're laughing, drinking, and playing jokes on each other. It completely drew me out of the movie. It was so bad that it pretty much felt like slamming into a brick wall. If they added maybe a few more lines and spruced up the acting a little bit, it wouldn't have been that bad. After that it was hard to take the movie seriously anymore. There were way too many plot holes, horrible wrap ups, and boring action sequences.

Needless to say Babylon AD was not a good movie. If only it kept up the same pace it had at the beginning of the movie, this could have become the next big sci-fi cult classic. But it's like they ran out of money halfway through and tossed everything they could salvage into the movie. So this'll be a big pass for me.

3/10

Fast Lane

it was funny and entertaining how Batman and Robin painted a whole room and themselves yellow in order to beat the piss out of the Green Lantern

I retain that this is the dumbest weakness ever.
anyways, back on topic with you all!

The last movie I saw was the about first 60 minutes of Schindler's List in my Holocaust. It's a film directed by Steven Spielberg about a man named Ozkar Schindler who starts up a factory in Nazi Germany. He employs Jews to work in his factory for the sole purpose of creating pots, pans, and various other metal items that is to be sold to the German army. He starts off in the film as a selfish merchant, suckling at the breast of war and earning a killing off of the products his factory produces during the war, but from what I gather, he soon has a gradual change of heart, and begins to help more Jews escape death from the Nazis. We'll be continuing the film in the following class sessions. I'm not sure if anyone here has seen this film yet, but if you have, please keep your comments about it. I don't like it when people ruin a good WWII film for me. =P

Anywho, from what I've seen of it so far, I give it about a 7/10. As time moves along, that rating will more than likely increase. Still have about two more hours left of it. =P

I just finally watched Indian Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Wow, that's a piece of shit isn't it? Seriously. I'm not a diehard Indy fan, but I did thoroughly enjoy the old movies and this was.....well I think Southpark expressed it best with their episode about Indy getting raped (literally), by George Lucas and Stephen Spielberg.

Shia Le....something swinging on vines like a monkey? Indy getting into a fridge and being blown how far up into the air and slamming down onto the hard ground by an atomic bomb and just getting out of the fridge afterwards like nothing ever happened? OMG, don't even get me started on the dialogue either....

I know Indy films aren't exactly 100% rl oriented (xD), but come on.

4/10 (it only gets that much because I did think the Crystal Skulls themselves and the alien storyline was vaguely interesting, the graphics at the end were pretty to look at and I did enjoy the part where Indy wouldn't grab the snake unless they called it a 'rope' and when he said, "BIG DAMN ANTS!")

OH OH. And I saw the The Dark Knight in theaters only twice :( But I made up for it by now owning the two-disc special edition dvd and the Blu Ray. Why? Cause I can. *pets both*

Watched the movie Taken a few days ago and holy hell that movie is bad ass. I'd say on a scale of bad-assedness it's right up there around the Bourne movies only with the violence taken up a notch (pun intended?). There are multiple times during the movie that you'll just yell out "Holy fuck!" or "Oooooo damn that sucks." I'd like to see it in theaters just to listen to the reactions of everyone else.

Also Liam Neeson is epic in this movie. Sure he may not have the widest emotional range but that gorram voice. It just gives me the chills (and possibly other feelings?). He pulls off the role quite nicely and I would love to see some sort of spiritual sequel.

And that brings me to my only gripe. At an hour and 30 minutes, this action movie is woefully short. Left me wanting just a little more action. Ah well. I'd definitely see this movie again in a heartbeat.

The alien part was what left a bad taste in my mouth. To me, Indiana Jones has been about recovering ancient artifacts of our own past that may or may not exist. And even at that, they were religious artifacts that have legends surrounding them that come from long ago. I mean, how many of us actually know of the 'crystal skull' legend? And out of anyone that had heard of them, who actually cares of that particular legend? It just doesn't make any sense to take what worked for the series and go "LOL ALIENS, WHAT A TWIST!", it just doesn't fit Indy.

Just watched Elizabeth which in case you don't know is about the early years of Queen Elizabeth I of England. Didn't really want to see this movie since I rarely get into historic movies but was bored and one of my roommates needed to watch it for class so I joined in.

Overall I was quite surprised by how much I enjoyed the movie. Now that may be because of all the side commentary that was going on but hey I still liked the movie. Cate Blanchet does a great job portraying the Queen and if it wasn't for Geoffrey Rush (Cptn Barbosa) she would have been the shining star of the movie. But Rush steals most of the scenes playing the Queen's right hand man. Especially during the last thirty minutes of the movie where things really pick up. So in the end there's not much here storywise since it's all mostly based on historical fact, but if you're interested in English history I'd recommend picking this one up.
