The scanners pick up something unusual approaching from underneath the water to one of the lower regions of Atlantis. Deciding to investigate a military contingent containing Sheppard, Ronon, Teyla and Cameron is sent to find out whether it is an animal or a threat. During the search the four of them get trapped in a section of Atlantis with the intruder.

Thwack!

Lieutenant Colonel John Sheppard groaned as he fell to one knee. The pain from the last assault swept through his abdomen. He scowled up at his assailant and was rewarded with a smug smile of satisfaction. Gritting his teeth he used the staff to help him to his feet and took the ready stance again his face full of determination. He was going to beat this guy at least once.

Ronon Dex grinned at his team leader and friend as once again he stood and took the ready stance. Despite the beating he usually took John Sheppard was not one to give in.

"You sure you want to go again?" Ronon asked trying not to sound like he was gloating but not being very successful about it.

"Put up or shut up, Dex," came Sheppard's reply as he took the offensive.

Ronon just chuckled as he brought his staff about. For several moments all that could be heard was the movement of feet and the clicking of staffs as the two fought each other. There was a soft thump as contact was made with flesh and Ronon winced slightly at the new gash in his forearm. It did not slow him down however and within the next ten seconds Sheppard found his feet swept from underneath him.

Thwump! He landed hard on his back and winced as his hand went to his lower spine. He sighed and closed his eyes leaning back
against the mat.

"Okay I yield." Sheppard said as he slowly got to his feet. He looked back at Ronon and grinned. "This time." He glanced at Ronon's wound which had a fair amount of blood dripping from it.. "Looks like I did get you this time."

Ronon looked down at his wound as he went to grab his towel. "It's just a scratch." He remarked. Truthfully it was probably more than that, but he was not going to admit that to John.

Sheppard rolled his eyes. "Yeah and I just sat down." He winced slightly as he stepped forward, thinking he might have bruised more than his ego in that last fall. "Come on lets get you to the med bay and get Jen to have a look at it."

Ronon raised an eyebrow. "And she's just going to have a look at me right."

"Absolutely." John replied with a cheeky grin as they exited the sparring room and headed to the med-bay.

Cameron winced when one of the nurses moved her wrist. The next time Captain Ramirez wanted to use her as a guinea pig to show some other Marines how to do certain take downs she would decline. He had twisted her wrist and not let go while it was screaming in pain and she herself wanted to knock him down to make him let go. She knew better than to do so but not doing that made her end up here, not her favorite place in the world.

She knew it wasn't broken but it still hurt and she needed to know whether she could still handle a gun or be stuck in a brace for a few weeks. That idea did not appeal to her because she hated being out of commission, sitting around doing nothing all day seriously sucked. Cameron wished she could have an ace bandage, an ibuprofen and leave not sit here and do some funky tests to see what the damage was.

"Okay close your hand in a fist as tight as you can."

Cameron did was the nurse asked and made a fairly tight fist but it hurt to do so though not extremely bad.

"Good now spread your fingers as far as they can go." The Lieutenant did so then was asked to grip the nurses arm as hard as possible.

By the time they got to the med bay Johns walk was less of a limp. Ronon's arm however was still bleeding. Jennifer did not seem to be in the med bay at that point in time and Sheppard tried to recall if she were on an off world mission. Coming up with no recollection he shook his head slightly and smiled at the nurses and the other person in the med bay who seemed to be testing what might be an injured arm.

"bah, I've seen worse," remarked Sheppard with a wry smile as he hopped up onto one of the spare beds. "In fact his is worse." He
grinned.

Ronon glared at his friend as he too sat on a spare bed. "As I said it's just a scratch." He remarked as a spare nurse came over to look.

"I'm guessing that means stitches," Remarked the female nurse with an Irish lilt as she looked at the arm. She had seen Jennifer tend to Ronon's wounds far to many times not to know the drill by now. "What is it with you soldiers and sparring?" She asked glaring at the three occupants before heading over to the store to get some disinfectant, local anesthetic and needle and thread for Ronon's wound.

Sheppard shrugged and looked over at the other female, her name slipping his memory at the moment. Darn it he was becoming as bad as McKay with names. "So who got you?" He asked her anyway trying to strike up a conversation while he waited, not that he really needed to be seen now anyway.

Cameron jerked her hand away out of instinct when the nurse tending to her moved her wrist in the wrong way by accident.

"Sorry," the nurse said and let go of the Lieutenant's hand. "Mild sprain nothing serious but I wouldn't spar with it for a while though I'm sure you'll be back to it tomorrow like everyone else that ends up in here." The last bit gave away a southern accent making Cameron unable to mask a bit of a smile. She had lived in Texas for a time, picking up the accent as well but she learned to mask it. She could imitate many accents easily.

"It keeps us on our toes. All part of the job; no pain no gain as people love to say," Cameron chuckled and put on the ace bandage she was given.

Cameron turned her dark head to the Colonel when he asked the question of who made her end up in the fun quarters of the infirmary. She sat up a little straighter out of habit when she was in the presence of or talking to a superior. She had heard that Sheppard was not a very formal person but didn't want to take any chances and chose to be formal. She didn't stand however mostly because one she was wrapping something on her hand and two saluting with a half wrapped bandage would look plain stupid. Something she rather not do in front of the Colonel.

"Captain Ramirez sir, he was using me as a demo dummy I guess you can call it. He got a little over excited and didn't pay attention to how much he was twisting my arm."

"And why did you not stop him Leiutenant Haze?" Ronon asked as he got his arm tended to.

Sheppard mentally slapped himself in the head alla Homer Simpson. Cameron Haze. Of course Mckay was obviously having a bad influence on him, he should have remembered her name. As he recalled she was not that bad of a fighter either. He shook his head.

"Sometimes its not wise to hand your superior officer his arse, Ronon." He smiled that wry smile that some women seemed to go weak over, even though Sheppard did not realise it. "Your just lucky I'm a good natured guy Ronon."

Ronon just snorted at this comment as they both new neither of them believed Sheppard to be Ronon's superior officer. Ronon generally went along with Sheppard because he reconised smart moves and loyalty when he saw it. Woe be Sheppard if he ever abused his position.

Sheppard turned his attention to Haze his green eyes studying her. He did not mean it to but his gaze could seem quite intense when he studied something. "Though a officer should know when to back off too. How bad is it?"

If it was bad Sheppard would make a note to speak to Ramirez about his training methods.

Cameron stood up as she clipped the end of the bandage to the rest of it to keep it in place. She felt a little uneasy with Sheppard looking at her intensely but showed no signs of distress, it was never good to let anyone see your discomfort. Cameron had learned to mask her emotions when necessary.

"Just a little twist, nothing that will keep me out of the game sir. Ramirez just gets a little over excited sometimes he means no real harm really."

She looked at Ronon who was definitely a mountain of a man. She had heard some people talk about how intimidating the Satedan was because he was tall and his long dreadlocks added to it along with his silent and often scary glares. That didn't detour Cameron in the least, it took a lot more than that to really intimidate her.

"And please call me Cameron or Hayze." She didn't like have her title put in front of her name not unless she knew she was in trouble or being given a command by her superiors.

"As for stopping him, like the Colonel said it's not a good idea to deck your superior when he's talking and demonstrating. It would
defeat the purpose of the exercise plus give me more trouble than a simply twisted limb."

Teyla laughed as Sergeant Franklin made a joke. Some jokes the Earth humans made went over Teyla's head but this one she actually got.

She was sitting at the lunch table with Franklin and four other Marines. The scientists tended to stay away from this table because they were too loud and interrupted their thinking though on occasion a few sat at the table with the noisy Marines.

"Come on tell another!" Second Lieutenant Jorgensen grinned, still laughing. Tears were nearly coming out of his eyes.

"Dude why are you crying?" Joked First Lieutenant Hendricks.

"Shut up Danny! I am not," Jorgensen said and snorted as he continued to laugh. He wiped the tears with his sleeve.

Teyla's side hurt from laughing. When they all calmed down Franklin began to tell a funny story instead of a joke this time.

Ronon snorted at the response both from Cameron and from Sheppard. "I would not have let him do that to me." He responded before looking back at the nurse who was finishing stitching his wound.

She just rolled her eyes and shook her head as she completed the last stitch and put a small bandage on his arm. It was pretty much the same reaction Sheppard had, except that Sheppard chuckled as well.

"Well as we know Ronon, some rules just do not apply to you."

"Colonel Sheppard to the Control Room!" The voice over the comm link sounded quite urgent.

"Sheppard here!" He remarked tapping his ear piece. "What's up Chuck?"

"Sir we are picking up something on the scanners heading toward Atlantis."

Sheppards eyes widened slightly as he looked at Ronon giving a slight nod indicating for him to follow. Tapping the earpiece again he continued. "I'm on my way. Teyla please report to the Control Room."

Part of the joy of being the military commander was that when Colonel Samantha Carter was not on the base he was in charge. It was not exactly something he relished, especially with McKay off world as well. At least he had the rest of his teams support anyway. Giving a nod farewell to Lt. Hayze Sheppard headed toward the control room closely followed by Ronon.

Cameron arched an eyebrow at Ronon's statement and snorted with a shake of her dark haired head. She agreed with Sheppard on not all rules applied to him. "Well not all of us can be as special as you," Cameron said with a tint of sarcasm and a smirk.

She perked up when she heard the Colonel talking to the control room and made a quick departure. It made her wonder what was going on and wanted to follow but would she be out of line for following? Deciding to take a chance and wanting to know what had made the Colonel disappear so quickly, Cameron followed.

Franklin was almost at the end of the story when Sheppard radioed her headset and told her to go to the control room. His voice made it sound urgent and that she was not to delay.

Getting up made Franklin stop and everyone turn their heads to look at her with a bit of confusion at her leaving. "I'm sorry but I must leave please forgive me but I'm needed at the 'Gate room." She wanted to stay just for another few minutes to hear the end but knew that duty called. Being part of the main team of Atlantis meant you were on call almost all the time. It had its quirks and rewards like anything else, this was probably a tiny bit of a quirk but she'd be able to catch it next time.

Teyla quickly walked to a transporter room and beamed to the nearest section of the main tower. She was out of the door before they opened all the way and hurried up the stairs to see what was going on.

Sheppard and Ronon arrived at the gateroom shortly before Teyla who was there just before Cameron. As usual the Control/Gate room was a buzz of activity, especially given the situation. Technitians and Scientist were scattered over various Atlantean display units pouring over the information they were receiving and debating between each other as to what should be done.

As Sheppard entered Chuck moved away from the monitor he had been observing to fill the Colonel in. He was not at all surprised to see Ronon and Teyla following Sheppard into the room. Whenever there was trouble SGA1 always seemed close at hand. If McKay wasn't off world there would be no doubt that he would be here too. Course if he had been here they might have picked up the discrepancy earlier. Shaking his head he started. "They surprised us sir, one minute the sensors were clear the next they were upon us."

Teyla weaved around people as they hustled around working on various tasks to find out exactly what was going on. "Who's upon us?" Teyla asked in response to Chuck's comment. She did not sense the Wraith so it was not them so what was? The 'Gate wasn't dialed so it had to be something on this planet and that wasn't a very pleasant thought. And who was the Marine following Ronon and Sheppard? She had seen her around before but never really knew her name nor worked with her so that didn't help. Oh well that was not important at the moment.

Sheppard was just about to ask how the Wraith had found them and wondered if their 'friend' Todd had finally betrayed them when he saw the sensors. His eyebrows shot up.

"Who's upon us?"

Sheppard glanced over at Teyla and then back at the sensors. "Something native to this planet since it's come at us from below the water level. Chuck what are they?"

"Well that's just it we don't know. The senors aren't identifying what it is. Just two different lifeforms. They're currently circulating some of the still submerged areas. It looks like they may be trying to gain entrance."

Sheppard muttered something under his breath that none of the others quite understood. "Okay well guess we'll need to check it out and make sure the area is secure. Lorne's team still offworld?" Chuck nodded. To which Sheppard nodded in reply and then hit his comm. "Captain Rameriz please gather your team together, arm them and meet me at the entrance to lower level of Section 5b." He then noticed Cameron Hayze had followed them to the Control room. "Get together with your team Hayze we'll see you down there." He turned to Ronon and Teyla as he started to head out the control room. "You two coming?"

Cameron's brow furrowed at the mention of lifeforms around the city. "I thought there was no lifeforms on this planet besides the strange fish and all."

"Well apparently not," Teyla said and blew out a breath.

Adrenaline and excitement went through Cameron when Sheppard called her team leader and told them both to get geared up and meet at the lower section of 5b. She liked the idea of finding out first hand what these lifeforms were and what threat they posed. Hopefully none because that would be a first; meeting a nonhuman life form that was not trying to suck you dry of your life energy.

"Yes sir," Cameron nodded curtly and hurried to the equipment room. She put on a Kevlar vest, extra clips for her P-90, a Wraith stun gun, a nine millimeter in the leg holster, and a radio. During that time Captain Ramirez, Second Lieutenant Jackson, and Sergeant Hawthorne, showed up.

She was second in command of the team, one of the reasons she was the guinea pig more often than anyone else when Ramirez was the one leading the training sessions.

"You okay there to work Hayze?" Ramirez asked, pointing the butt of the nine millimeter at her wrist. He put the hand gun in the holster and grabbed a Kevlar jacket.

"Yes sir, just a twist," Cameron said, resting both her hands on the P-90 that was strapped around her neck. "The Doc. said I was fine to work."

"Good, just makin' sure I didn't break something," Ramirez said with a half smirk. He had not meant to hurt Cameron like that he just got a little too enthusiastic.

"All right guys let's go see what scary monsters we have," Captain Ramirez said in a loud voice as he palmed the magazine into his gun.

"Wonder if they look like those fish people in that movie," Hawthorne said to Jackson.

"I bet they're slimy and have those big fish eyes," was Jackson's reply with a laugh.

"Come on you two," Cameron said as she got behind them and shoved them forward. "You needa quit with the movies."

Teyla followed Sheppard without a word, wondering what could possibly lurk beneath the blue green waters of this planet. Nothing had been in the database about sea creatures that posed a threat or else this planet would not have been chosen as a new base.

It did not take long for Teyla, Sheppard and Ronon to suit up and start making their way to the lower eschelons of Atlantis.

"You don't think those poisonous snakes that McKay said lived on the mainland know how to swim?" Ronon asked off handedly as he checked his weapon for the tenth time.

"Not afraid are you, Dex?" Sheppard asked with wry humour as he clipped his P-30 onto the harness and adjusted you grip.

Ronon gave him an affronted look and disgusted look. "Course not. I'm not afraid of much. But excuse me if the thought of tackling a 30 ft poisons creature with large fangs doesn't appeal to me.'

John glanced at Teyla and smirked. "Hmm you may have a point there, course they sensors would have identified them right." He handed a tablet over to Teyla that showed the life sign readings as they reached the entrance. Rameriz's team with Hayze were already waiting.

"Okay looks like we have two types of bogeys. There is one of the first type and four of the second. We do not know whether they are hostile or not. Therefore our primary mission is to seek and obtain contact with the lifeform. Of course if they attack then we use force to take 'em down." His look was serious as he spoke but honestly he hoped they were freindly and also not the 30 ft poisonous snakes.

Teyla did not like the idea of poisonous snakes and prayed they did not know how to swim. It would take a lot more than there current weapons to kill such a creature of that size. She took the tablet and looked as the Colonel pointed at the dots on the screen.

"Let's hope it is not the serpents and something more friendly," she said with a weak smile.

"If it's one of those snakes think I can keep it?" Hawthrone joked.

"Sure where you gonna keep it?" Jackson asked with pure sarcasm.

"And you two are dumb." Hayze shook her head. She liked working with Jackson and Hawthorne despite their idiocy. They were smart yes but so nerdy/dorky at the same time. They made up for it being able to be serious when necessary and shoot well.

"All right Colonel where do you want us?" Ramirez asked, ignoring the others comments.
