Likely objective

Summary

Launch date: 4 november 1962

Mission status: failed

Sputnik 24 (also known as Korabl 13, Mars 1962B and ß ξ 1) was a soviet attempt at a Mars probe. The probe's objectives were probably similar to those of the Sputnik 22 mission, though very little is known about Sputnik 24.

The spacecraft entered Earth orbit successfully but broke up as the boosters tried to send it in a Mars-bound trajectory. The pieces then fell back to Earth.
