It's only appropriate to start things off with the next game: http://www.officialnintendomagazine.co.uk/35628/sakurai-starts-working-on-smash-bros-3ds-and-wii-u/

Looking at Brawl and how long it took, it's going to be quite some time.

What are your hopes for it? I for one hope they keep the characters and just add on to it, along with graphic/engine updates, etc. Multiplayer could be interesting as well, making for bigger battles.

Everything is true. Nothing is permitted.
On one hand, making the console and handheld versions of the game work together has potential to maximize the fun-ness of SSB4. However, it also feels like a way for Nintendo to maximize profits too. "You could enjoy your limited Wii U/3DS version, or you could do ALL THE THINGS with both copies!"

I hope they make a better campaign mode. The Subspace Emissary was okay, but it was repetitive, lacking in story, and overall just average. Online co-op would also be nice.

Now for something out of the blue, I wouldn't mind seeing DLC, but it would be hard to integrate into online multiplayer (particularly if said DLC is of new characters).

That being said, I hope they don't pull a Capcom and put DLC on the disc.

Also, I used to respect capcom. They did things right, nobly and honestly.

Then they cancelled Mega man Legends 3 and pulled the DLC shit. That's EA levels of douche.

I don't think it would be all that hard to implement DLC into online play. Soulcalibur IV brought Vader to the 360 and Yoda to the PS3 without any trouble. They also implemented several custom character parts that were DLC. Also, Mortal Kombat 9 released a good number of downloadable characters, and that game has online play, I believe. (What game wouldn't?) So, I don't think DLC will be an issue. It is kind of interesting, though, seeing Nintendo pull the Pokemon sales strategy for a series other than Pokemon.

On another note, this may be enough of a reason for me to get a WiiU or 3DS.

I will definitely be getting at least one or the other, more than likely the Wii U version. I'd only get the other one if there is some significant difference in the game, and not just a few "handheld exclusive" levels or unlockables.

I'll probably just be getting the 3DS one. It makes much more sense to have a PORTABLE super smash brothers to me.
But if they skimp out and its just a stupid port with less features I'll get the WiiU one.

I hope that they remove toon link. It's annoying how some characters can't reach him. :L

its called crouching. and moving diagonally.
That said they probably will remove toon link. We'll just have skyward sword Link and Zelda to work with.

oh jeez what if they put in Groose. That'd just be awesome.

They should definitely give Ganondorf his sword this time around. They can keep the current, crappy moveset, but they should really add an option or command to switch to the sword. It might make GD worth playing. As it stands, he's just a shitty throw-in.

Fuck Ganondorf. Throw Girahim and Zant in there. I want to play as them.
