Martin Announces Presidential Campaign
Martin: America needs a "New Vision for the Future"

Posted Image

South Carolina Governor Jack Martin has officially announced his intention to run for President in 2008. In his speech, Governor Martin called for Americans on both ends of the political spectrum to "come together, turn the page on the past, and move forward to a better future for every citizen of this great nation."

"My fellow South Carolinians,

These last few years as a governor have been some of the greatest of my life. I can't tell you what an honor it is for me, the son of a factory worker, the first kid in his entire family to go to college, to have had the opportunity to work for the people of this state. If there is one thing I have learned from my time in government, it's the importance of honesty and accountability. For too long, too many of our representatives and elected officials, from both parties, have left these two values, these two core American values, behind. They have instead become corrupted by money, and by power. For 6 years, my party lost its way in Washington. We spent obscene amounts of taxpayer dollars on wasteful and unnecessary projects and programs. In 2006, the people threw us out, the Democrats were elected, and nothing changed. Congress still sits in the pocket of the corporate interests which dominate Washington. I am here today because I am sick and tired of it. I am sick and tired of the government mismanaging domestic, foreign, fiscal, and anything else you can think of party. I am here today, announcing my candidacy for President of the United States, because it is time for a CHANGE!

(*applause*)

This election is not about party affiliation. Some may try and tell you that because our party messed it up, the other party should be elected to fix it. I say, throw that argument out the door. What we need now goes beyond that. What we need now is leadership and accountability. We need a leader who understands that American strength abroad does not rest solely on military strength, nor solely on diplomacy and discussion, but on the careful utilization of every tool we have at our disposal. We need a leader who understands that we cannot continue to rely on sub-prime mortgages, massive consumer debt, and incredibly complicated and intricate lending practices to drive our economy forward. We need a leader who understands that it's time to put the old arguments about energy and the environment behind us. All of us need to realize that the future of our economy, the jobs and the wealth the will drive America forward, will come from the energy sector, and that America's future is a GREEN future. We need a leader who understands that fiscal responsibility and sound fiscal policies must replace the out of control spending and waste of the last 15 years. That is why I believe that now is the time for a new vision for America. Not a Republican vision, or a Democratic vision, but an AMERICAN vision. That is why I am running for President of the United States of America!

Thank you all! God bless you, and god bless America!"

Press Release: Bi-Partisan Budget

The Governor's budget was passed nearly unanimously by the General Assembly and the Senate. A great bi-partisan victory for Governor Martin. This budget provides additional funding for education, and cuts wasteful spending, while keeping taxes low.
