Take notes on feel atmosphere of city at start. [Indeterminate Scribbling]
(Article intro?) – At least have available for comparison; Good for giving article city impression.

The sun was setting off in the distance, creating a wonderful sunset. With the headache gone and plenty of area in the safe zone of New Haven for Morgan to explore for night shots or knowing where he’d take photographs later, the man should have had plenty on his mind. But a single factor was keeping his mind focused, and not in a good way.

“Jade Grant, so help me, if you don’t get back here, stop running around like a maniac, and settle down, I will personally come over there and sit on you!”

The man could have slapped himself at hearing himself speak.

”Oy, I sound like parent. A cheesy sitcom one no less.” he thought to himself.

A block or so down the street, a sandshrew stopped moving and stood up, giving Mario, his charmader, an opportunity to catch up and catch his breath. With a wide open smile, a wave, and some kind of shout of a greeting, the Pokémon then rushed past Mario back to Morgan and leaped onto his leg to grip it with as firm a hug as it could manage. The action nearly caused his leg to be knocked out from under him, but he avoided loosing his footing and waited as Mario made his way back.

“What have I gotten myself into, Mario?” he asked the fire-lizard as it caught up again and sat down, tongue hanging out.

“Good idea. Let’s find a bench or something and take a rest.”

Jade as framing device? Possible transfer paragraphing tool?
-May come off too sappy/”human interest”

It was a rhetorical question anyway. He knew exactly why he was in this situation. He also knew that he was not suppose to let this kind of thing happen to him anymore! He had sworn off peer pressure!

”Except Jade isn’t your peer. She’s your niece. And you do not want to have to go through the rest of your life putting up with a sister who’s child you emotionally scarred.”

Morgan found a bench at a bus stop and took a seat, pulling Jade the Sandshrew off his leg and setting on his lap. Mario lifted himself up onto the bench next to him and took a seat and took care not to sit so that his flame wouldn’t harm the bench.

”Besides, she had a point. You did kind of need something to fill in for Groot. If only temporarily.”

:ho-oh Blessed be our great protector may he protect me on my journey. :ho-oh

Foreword:

Elder Li asked me to keep a journal of events as I set out on my search for the blessed one. As this journal will likely be held in the temple library for generations and may even come to be read by the hands of laymen if my search comes to fruition, I will start with how I came to be writing this.

Three days ago, a Murkrow was pecking at the great bell at the top of the Tin Tower. The great bell has been blessed by our ancestors to chime by itself to announce the approach of Ho-oh, our great protector. The pecking of the infernal Murkrow had everyone up in false alarm that the Sacred Fire had returned to bless us. Everyone scrambled from their daily ritual to meet the blessed one, only to meet this mocking bird Pokémon. Our immediate reaction was to attempt to battle the bird to prevent the annoyance from returning; however, all attempts at using our Gastly and Bellsprout seemed laughable by the dark bird, apparently it's type advantage and our collective inexperience were enough to deter the nuisance from our midst.

At the close of what an outsider may have viewed as an amusing shenanigan, our Elders had a meeting in private. The wisest amongst us quickly came to a conclusion and spoke to me directly about their findings. Elder Li told me "For more than one-hundred and fifty years we have waited in vain. Either we are doing something wrong or the great Ho-oh is preoccupied somewhere else. It may even be the case that the Brass tower must prepare to house Lugia once more before either will return; I will see to the reconstruction myself. However;"

I started to interrupt, but he shook as head at me for speaking out of turn. "However; we also have received word that Ho-oh appeared to a great champion at the close of tournament in Orre. A similar large tournament is being held in Althea, we believe the Pokémon may appear there and as you are the youngest, we must ask of you to watch for our protector and tell him that we still await his return. Do you understand?"

"Yes, sir. I do."

"Certainly we do not expect you to be the champion yourself, but we do expect that you speak to the bird, should he appear."

I completed my rituals for the day and set out the following morning to be sent into the tournament. Though, I really didn't know what I was getting into until I arrived.

Of course, before that I was required like any participant to go through these long searches and background checks. The security guard found it quite amusing that I only had a robe, Spirit, this journal and a few pokeballs; though the lack of bulk of possessions got me through the search much more rapidly. The psychiatrist on the other hand, a true skeptic had the indecency to refer to our religion as "mild delusions; not a harm to others". At least believing in the great Ho-oh isn't a threat, but delusions? People these days have no faith. Spirit and I were accepted into the tournament with little to no problem.

Day 1: Point Insertion

Being warned that electric equipment tended to fail. I released Spirit from her pokeball with little intent to return her for a good amount of time. She seemed a bit dismayed at the breeziness of the copter as we approached the island. Her usual playful visage turning into a scowl as she struggled to hold her form together against the winds. Perhaps I should have put the general breeziness of the area into consideration before releasing her. I didn't worry too much; however, we were only a few minutes away from our landing in what they called New Haven; my point of insertion into this tournament.

Just a few seconds and I'd be stepping out of the chopper, entering the first town outside of Ecruteak that I had entered since, well...I became a monk. Sitting there looking down of the strange and futuristic city, I zoned out for a moment--thinking of the sheer number of trainers out there competing in this tournament and how weak and peculiar a trainer I would seem to them. This strange technological area seems like the last place Ho-oh could appear, but then so did a tower in the center of a large desert. I hope that the rumors are true and that this tournament doesn't last too terribly long. In my personal best interests I'd prefer to find Ho-oh and return home triumphant with Spirit..."Spirit?" I said, looking around the cockpit as the airship landed.

The attendants forced me out of the helicopter so they could resume their duties and return after the next contestants, but...Spirit wasn't with me. I turned around glancing around in horror. I'd arrived in this great tournament without a Pokémon. Dearest Ho-oh, I'd made a fool out of myself. Then, Spirit came floating down from above and gave me a rather disturbed look, making me shudder for a moment. "What did I do?" I asked the ghost.

"Gast. LY!" she said in this most annoyed voice.

"You blew out the window...ugh. I'm sorry, better than the pokeball killing you though, right?"

"Gas?"

"Pokeballs and other devices don't work too well here, I wouldn't want the pokeball getting fried with you in it. Couldn't get you back out."

Spirit looked around uncomfortably for a moment, before sticking her tongue out and turning back into her usual laughable self. Watching Spirit play in the twilight of the sunset made me think about when I first found her late one night just making a joke out of one of our statues, she loved playing with the illusions and the things you think you only see out of the corner of your eyes; just her nature. Night-time illusions...I'll let her have her fun while she can. I thought.

Continuing to look around the area for a moment, as Spirit was off being a playful ghost, I came upon a bench at what seems to have been a bus stop during the city's better days. Seemed like a nice place to sit and watch Spirit play with Pokémon and people until we had to turn in for the night.

Seeing a man sitting there with a couple Pokémon of his own sitting on a bench just looking out onto the city made me want to strike up a conversation. Thinking carefully about what I was going to say, I finally managed an awkward "May I sit here?", punctuated by Spirit rudely coming through my head halfway through the sentence making it sound more like "May I GASTLY?" I couldn't help but wonder what in Suicune's name the man would think of me now.

Morgan sat on the bench, his mind having wandered in whatever wayward direction it felt like as he tried to reassure himself for the umpteenth time that he hadn’t made a big mistake. He hardly even noticed the monk approaching his bench, and might have come across as rudely ignoring the guy entirely had Jade not moved around and practically leapt off.

“Saan…AN! SAND!”

The interrupting Gastly caught Jade’s attention, and being the little one she was, it scared her to no end. One moment, she was sitting happily in Morgans lap, the next she was leaping off it trying to get to a hiding space, forcing her owner to grab ahold and keep her from going who-knew-where.

“Whoa! Jade, woah! Calm down!” he said as he grabbed on better than he would have expected under the circumstances. With help from some encouraging words he couldn’t make heads or tails of courtesy of Mario, she eventually stopped squirming and instead simply rolled up into a ball, peeking out occasionally and looking to Morgan for protection.

“Ugh.” Morgan said, finally getting an opportunity to look around and see what had caused all the commotion. He saw what looked like some kind of old-school holy man, robes and all.

Monk?
Proper terms: Sage, “Brother”

With him was a Gastly, which he assumed was what had frightened Jade.

“It’s alright, Jade. That ghost isn’t going to harm you.” He turned back to the man and offered an apologetic smile. “Sorry about that. She’s a little young yet. I’m guessing you might imagine what that’s like.”

Mario helped out by giving Morgan a cue as to what had happened while he had been spacing out, scooting over as far as he could on the bench in Morgan’s direction.

“Char!”
“Uh…Seat?” Morgan asked, offering the sitting room that was available.

Today; oh glorious of days, hehe, today I finally got a new audience to toy with. Well, that and I got thrown out of a helicopter, but it's not like it HURT me. Of course, I made Jeff THINK I felt some pain. He'll feel guilty about that for weeks. I mean, disintegrating feels funny, but not like the hurt that a psychic blast can do to my head. Anyways, so I'm here; Jeff and I have arrived in this beautiful...necropolis. Nothing like a ghost in a city of death, eh? eh? Course, being that the deaths are at the hands of fellow Pokémon and not human on human, I have to be careful that I don't get cast into the next life, myself. But still, a ghost in a place so filled with death and despair, oh all the jokes I can make.

Jeffrey seems so ready to rest and turn in for the night, perhaps he is right. Things can be dangerous in such a devastated area, but I can't resist the fun! I mean, he goes to sit down and I scare the shit out of some guys Sandshrew. Hehe... "Yes. Spirit is quite harmless, outside of being a good sleeping aid, she really doesn't know how to attack. She just like making a joke." My sage of a trainer speaks to the guy and takes a seat, how incredibly boring... Now I can't taunt the Sandshrew anymore. Oh, well.

Oh! A Rattata darting about, be fun to taught this little guy, heh.

:ho-oh

I explained carefully to the fellow's Pokémon that Spirit didn't mean any harm, gently held the back of my robe to prevent dirtying it and took a seat next to the man's Charmander. "Your Pokémon are quite young. I feel Spirit is as well, in Spirit at least." Spirit in spirit, I'm doing an excellent job of making myself appear as a fool. "She's stayed youthful for quite a long time though. I'm not exactly sure that Ghost Pokémon age like the rest of us. Even now, she's having fun playing as if she were a child and she's been with me for about five years now, Ho-oh knows how old she is. For all I know, the two may have lived in the tower together."

I then looked upon the man "Sorry. How rude of me, I forgot introductions. I am Sage Jeff from the Tin tower in Ecruteak city. Perhaps you have heard of my people?" I looked down upon the Charmander's tail flame for a moment, gazing deeply into the intense burn. "We were once the keepers of the Sacred Fire. Ho-oh, but he flew from our tower over one-hundred fifty years ago. I was sent to the island to search for any trace of the Pokémon so that his guidance may return to our people. You must have a story as well. Two very young Pokémon isn't exactly the mark of an expert trainer out to win a competition either."

I looked the trainer in the eyes awaiting some sort of profound response. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Spirit playing with a trainer's Pokémon. Not appearing to be trying to be frightening anymore, perhaps even flirting. Oh well, it isn't that important, as long as she's safe. She'll have to be reigned in soon though, not sure if I'd trust her out at night here, as much as she loves the dark.

Sage Jeff
Tin Tower, Ecruteak city
*Ho-oh
*Search for Guidance, Return of Bird

Variety of reasons for entry? Consider further!
-Consider attempting interview with Jeff later for Story, be on lookout for other trainers with unusual different reasons for joining tournament.

“You’re right one count.” Morgan said as he watched Mario hop off the bench and approach where the ghost had gone. He took a quick glance at Jade, who was still rolled up in her defensive position, peeking out at the world. “Mario I’ve actually had for, oh…ten? Eleven? Twelve years now?.” He said, giving a quick point to his charmander. “I don’t know. Whichever it is. He just doesn’t have much battle experience. Normally, I have an Onix who does most the fighting that comes my way, but he was banned from the tournament, so I’m making do with what I have.”

****Mario****

As startling as the appearance of the Gastly may have been, Mario had experienced too much yet today to be bothered by it. Half the day had been spent keeping tabs on Jade, the rest of it had been spent keeping up with Morgan as he rushed about. It was different from his usual routine, where he had the luxury of a pokeball to ride around in and an adult companion he could talk to and didn’t have to follow around lest they get lost.

While he was still feeling worn out, he decided to go over and introduce himself to the ghost Pokémon. Their trainers were busy with talk his vocal capabilities made difficulty for him to partake in, and at this point he needed something grown-up to talk to and give him an excuse to take a rest from Jade.

“Hi there. I’m Mario.” He said in his best attempt at a greeting he could manage under his worn-out state.

****Morgan****

“But story, yeah. That’s actually what I’m here about. Normally, I’m a photographer. Photojournalist. Newswriter. All those kinds of things. Came here planning to write a story about my time on Althea and the tournament and take some photos of this place.”

Normally, it would have been at this point he would have pulled out his camera, but Jade still occupied his arms, and he didn’t want to reach behind him in a certain to fail attempt to locate and retrieve it.

“Certainly, I’d like to win, but I’m not holding my breath on it. Besides, I figure if I can put together a great article out of this little adventure, I’m a winner all the same.”

“So, Ho-oh, huh?” Morgan said, returning the subject back to the sage. He’d certainly heard of the Pokémon before. It was one of the infamous legendary beasts of old. But he wasn’t quite as familiar with the story the sage was telling him.

He thought he could remember some stuff about the big fire bird turning up somewhere closer to civilization than it was accustomed and working with a trainer, but it was the kind of thing where you didn’t believe it unless you saw it for your own eyes. Someone catching and taming a legendary Pokémon? How absurd that would have to be. Outrageously fantastic, that’s what it was.

When story complete, investigate leads/facts/stories about trainers using/taming legendary Pokémon.
Next story idea? COULD BE BIG!
PHOTOS!!!! +(!) Legendary Pokémon! Big indeed!(!!!)

“You really expecting to find it here?”

So this cute little fire type reached out to speak to me directly. Rather bold as the Pokémon looked as if it was about to doze off already. "My hypnosis doesn't work in reverse you know..." I joked. "And it's Spirit, at least that's what I've been called since I came under the care of the monks. Spirits of flame, they call us, as most of us began haunting the area after the Brass tower burned to the ground...heh. It been so long though, I can't remember how I came to be there or how I died. Seems like I had been there forever, it's good to finally be taken OUT in the world. Other than 'Very drowsy' how are you?"

It seemed logical to just speak to the Pokémon, no sense in starting a fight when Jeff is being so peaceable over there after all. Besides, the people and Pokémon here all seem worried about going inside for the night, the streets are starting to empty and become dull and it's boring to taught only one Pokémon. Though, the emptying of the streets may be seen as a sign. A real danger that I can't even fake lives somewhere around here. In the distance, I saw a sparkling Pokémon, it seemed very busy about the situation and it was quite of a sort that I had never seen before.

:lugia

"Over 150 years ago, two Pokémon watched over the city of Ecruteak. A great rainbow bird in our Tin Tower to the West, Ho-oh, and a silver bird in the Brass Tower to the East. These Pokémon watched over us through a great time of peace. We do not know that these are the only two of these Pokémon but only two were ever seen by our order. The Great Lugia guarded the rise of life and brought spirits into this world. Ho-oh protected the living people of the city and guided the deceased into the afterlife. Ever since the fire, ghost Pokémon, like Spirit, started haunting the town as the dead lost their guide into the afterlife."

"The harvests have lost their bounty and Ecruteak cries and waits for the return of our guardians...We have decided to send ourselves out into the world to find our guardians and ask them to return to our city. I was sent here, because Ho-oh appears to help the pure-hearted in most dire situations. We got word that he appeared in a similar tournament in Orre and thought that this battle-ridden and dangerous a place, he may appear to the champion of the righteous."

"Do I expect him to appear here? I'm not certain. He does appear when he's needed most. If I am supposed to find him, I will. If I supposed to die, I shall. I shouldn't question it. Would you like to ask anything else? I apologize if I've spoken too long."

I explained all I could, being humble as I watched the man.

Morgan nodded a little, only half paying attention to the details of the legend that Jess told him about. It was some kind of religious thing that Morgan wasn’t sure he bought, but he wasn’t the kind to try to rebuff the man’s beliefs if it was nothing more than a sharing of ideas. And he had asked for it.

”Kind of.” He thought to himself.

And even if it took a detour to get there, he did get an answer to his actual question.

“No, no, that’s alright.” Morgan said when he finally replied. “I’m just curious. I can’t say I know much about legendary Pokémon, so when someone like you comes around, I figure it can’t hurt to listen a little about them.”

Jade seemed to have settled down a little. She wasn’t completely curled up in a ball anymore, her head poking out and looking around, mostly keeping a close eye on Spirit for any sudden moves she’d need to respond to.

“But I will say it must be nice to have a strong purpose like that. Something to work towards, especially something greater than yourself. Something where it doesn’t matter what the outcome is as long as you fulfill it. I can’t say I’ve ever experience that myself, so I don’t have anything to compare notes on or anything.”

****Mario****

“Much older than I should.” The Charmander replied. “You would not believe how much I’ve had to run around keeping tabs on that Sandshrew. I don’t think I’ve every worked so hard in all my life.”

With a sigh that let a small burst of flame escape his mouth, Mario sat down where he stood.

“She’s kind of grown on me though, when she’s not being a troublesome nuisance. And I think there may be times when she looks up to me or something. But I’d be lying if I said I understood why Morgan agreed to bring her along. Some human thing I doubt I’ll really ever understand.”

"Age is relative. Being happy, being fit and being yourself is..." I started. When the Pokémon in the distance completely caused me to lose my concentration. "...What is that? I've never..." I was caught aghast for the first time since I could remember. Only able to stare out in the direction of the commotion, I observed as the shiny Pokémon was now very actively engaging a group of rapidly moving forms obscured by the twilight. The last red light of the setting sun flickered through it's transparent body and complete darkness was coming. Usually a blessing, I can see better in the pure darkness than these patches of dancing light, but apparently now, I'm not the only one with this advantage. This monolith, more than twenty times my size, actively in battle, I couldn't say it was struggling but it was indeed battling. What could battle and be any sort of threat to a Pokémon that huge? The mere thought was terrifying, especially since I could only see the crystalline beast and not whatever was threatening it. Could the Pokémon or...whatever was attacking it destroy my gaseous body as well? "We really should get somewhere safe. Continue this, when there isn't "

My first instinct was to start floating up into the air to view the situation better and remain out of reach of the combatants, I'd hope. Still from a high distance, I could only view a few rapidly moving forms too blurry for me to see well in the twilight, but definitely quite menacing. After a few moments, I was swatted down back to the ground by some rapidly moving flying Pokémon.

"GEOT!"

A Pidgeot? They usually don't act like...well, nothing is quite normal right now. I looked Mario in the eyes for a moment and took off as fast as I could float; straight into the nearest building.

As I made my escape, I could hear Jeff speak "Something spooked spirit, we need to get inside...now. I've never seen her acting like this. Direct me to my cell. Unless you feel the need to be in danger for any longer. Peril is part of life, but we mustn't take unnecessary risk." At least he'd figured out SOMETHING was up, though he still seemed to still seemed to be watching the last dancing lights.

Review of materials on Althea is a MUST
-Know the island
-double check the information
-probably best not to leave things to chance (Dangerous [note note!])

“Say what?” Morgan said, not quite sure what was going on. He was certain he was still within the boundaries of New Haven, and he thought that he was suppose to be safe at night so long as he didn’t wander off beyond that. Apparently, the island was trying to prove him wrong.

****Morgan****

Morgan wasn’t sure what was getting Spirit worked up, and simply remained sitting as he heard the cry of the bird Pokémon and the ghost floated off to wherever.

“Nice talking to you!” he said, almost as an after thought.

It wasn’t until he was attacked directly that he began to take notice of what was happening.

“PIDGE!”

THWAK!

With an airborn tackle, the bird swooped through the charmanders position and knocked him head over claw, landing stomach-first on the ground.

“MARIO!”

He heard the yell of his trainer as he opened his eyes and recovered from the ambush. Straight ahead, however, he could see the bird flying straight at him for another attack, and just barely rolled out of the way.

“Oh! No you don’t!” he said as he leapt to his feet. “I did not spend all day chasing a baby around to get beat up b”THWAK!

The bird came around again and hit him from behind, knocking him back to the ground. This time, the rattling made him feel like staying there might be a good idea.

****Morgan****

“MARIO!”

Out of nowhere, what he could only guess was a wild bird of some kind flew at his pokemons position and struck. Morgan leapt to his feet, but could only stand in fear as the fire lizard rolled away from another hit.

Night, outdoors, within New Haven – wild Pokémon will attack?
Isolated incident, or par the course?
>Must keep alert<

Morgan finally reacted when Mario got hit for the second time. Jade was itching by this point to get out of his arms, and he didn’t have time at the moment to fight her. Which worked out for the best in the end. As he neared his Pokémon, he could see the bird moving for another strike, and his gut reaction was to drop to the ground and take cover.

“An SAND! REW AN SAND!”

As Morgan dropped to the ground, Jade leapt to the air, curled into a ball, and struck the Pidgeot like a bullet hitting a clay pigeon. If the whole thing was played out in slow motion, the pigeon didn’t break, the bullet was more like a hard dodgeball, and you ignored the fact that the analogy made for an absolutely downright terrible comparison in the first place.

Point was, the Sandshrew hit the bird and sent it off its mark. Surprised by the counter-attack, the Pidgeot flew into the air and began to search for a different target to harass.

Realizing that the bird had flown off, Morgan looked up and saw Jade standing on the ground rather triumphantly. He made a guess as to what had happened.

“You do that, Jade?”
“Sand!” the Pokémon said with a large smile as she waved her arms.
“Good girl.” Morgan replied somewhat hectically and quickly picked himself up off the ground. Seeing that Mario, while hardly facing any serious damage, didn’t seem a fan of the whole ‘let’s get up and go somewhere safer’ idea, he then picked the lizard up to carry him.

“Ok, uh…let’s move!” he said in the general direction of Jeff, hoping that the Sage had a better idea than him as to where the best place to go for safety was on such short notice.

The Pokémon were acting quite strangely indeed, a noble and usually peaceable bird was striking the relatively defenseless Charmander; good thing for my new friend, the Pokémon didn't have the sense about it to pick it up and carry it off. Best not think grim thoughts at the moment. The bewildered young photographer agrees and urged us to go. Just behind us, Spirit was making her way straight through what appears to have used to have been a turnstile at the front of an office building. What happened here? Are their great legendary Pokémon of pure destruction as well as peace?

If this is the "Safe Haven", then how deplorable is the rest of the island? Why are things happening at night over the day is there a dark-type doing these things that hates the light? These irrelevant thoughts rushed through my head as I finally noticed how horribly ruined these places appeared to be. Just around me, we were sitting on a bench under a cracked glass structure that may have once served as a weather guard for a bus stop. Most the windows on the first few floors of buildings were destroyed and barricaded in and at least what used to be the store-front large glass windows to be the fronts of these buildings were now a nigh impenetrable barricade made up of general rumble and construction materials as well as filing cabinets and...Is that a marble Pokémon statue? Certainly this used to be a much more peaceable town than it is today.

Sorting through my irrelevant thoughts, I brought out the most useful information I could to say to my comrade. "The storefronts are barricaded for a reason. There are people in there, there must be an entrance in the back alley." With that, I rose up from my position, nearly tripping over my loose-hanging robes in my hurry inside. My feet became rather cut and bruised as I ran across what appeared to be the shambles of useful technology and broken shards of glass scattered throughout the alleyway. Things here really aren't kept well--shoes would be extremely helpful in these conditions. The pain and the blood didn't counteract my fears as I rushed into the darkened alleyway searching for a path into safety.

The overburdened trainer, carrying his two Pokémon behind me didn't seem deterred by the ruin of the alley, either, but then he actually had some protection upon his feet. I was such a fool for thinking things here would be half as well kept as Ecruteak. I may have well walked straight into a death trap. Course, with the darkness enclosing, other things could be hiding just outside my vision. Behind what appeared to be the shambles of a trash bin, I saw a pair of glowing red eyes. Something large was writhing around back there; we certainly didn't want to go any farther, but I couldn't see a door anywhere in this darkness. Perhaps it was only the darkness that kept me from seeing, but Ho-oh didn't seem to be interfering for our situation at all. Morgan, coming along a bit slower behind me didn't notice the glowing eyes as readily as I did. He kept moving on looking for a door.

A large snake lunged forth from behind the overturned food-wastes. The bewildered trainer, now in front of me barely stopped in time to be out of range of the filthy beast's first strike. His Pokémon seemed to be reacting in fear of the much larger breed, course I couldn't quite tell being focused on the massive form that had violently lunged out of the darkness.

Ugh, must I do everything myself?

So, in a moment of panic, I'd brought myself indoors to get out of the danger outside, but I'd sort of--just left--them and it's been several minutes now and they haven't made it inside. I'm sure they're fine, but I can't help but worry in a situation like this.

Is there anything here that can help them? Retracing my flight, I remembered passing through a ruined lobby, the area was blockaded off and what used to be a smooth polished marble floored looked more like broken rock from a cave in. There was a silvery shining desk and papers scattered about everywhere in there. Passing on, I went through the shambles of an apartment complex, which had people sleeping in various offices, the desks thrown out either as part of the barricade or to god knows where. I'd finally come to rest near the top of the building, just below where some of the desks and filing cabinets had been piled to prevent flying Pokémon from coming down from the roof. In order to find help, I started back down to the area with the sleeping trainers and found an awake Pokémon standing guard.

"Hey, my trainer's still outside. Can I get some help?"

"Some friend you are flying inside and leaving him in danger..." the hulking Pokémon answered.

"Not like I can do much, given my size and experience, but if you're not going to help, I guess I'll go back out by myself."

"Look, my trainer wouldn't like me going into danger, but I will open the door to let them back in, if you can find them."

I flew outside in a hurry, near where this door the fighting Pokémon had offered to open was; to find that the monk had been smart enough to search for the door, but was now being stared down by a large snake. Oh the things I do for people...

Knowing full well most the snake's attacks were quite physical and should pass right through me, I darted out headlong to distract the beast for long enough for Jeff to pass, at least.

:machoke

Just as I was about to write us off, Spirit flies right out through a wall right in front of the crazed beast, which immediately starts to try to cut the Gastly with it's tail. Mostly it's strikes hit nearby objects in vain, but I knew she couldn't keep up the dodging for very long--she may be playful but her energy is limited. "Let's get passed, while we have the chance!" I called to Morgan, taking off down the alley just beyond the reach of the ongoing battle. As I passed the action, I nearly tripped over what looks like it used to be a a power line. Does this place even have electricity? I thought for a moment. Recovering from my stumble, I moved as quickly as I could with my now horribly bleeding feet, causing me to hobble and limp with every step as the edges of my robe were now becoming quite torn from being caught on the various debris.

Just a couple yards passed where the snake had originally been resting, there was a door. Ecstatic to see it I immediately tried, pushing and pulling and the door wouldn't budge. They must have barricaded the blessed thing I thought. Thus, I started banging on the door as hard as my fists would let me. It seemed hopeless and just a few yards away, Spirit was still doing all she could to keep the snake from coming back towards us.

"CHOKE!"

A large Pokémon cried out as the door swung open. His trainer not with him--this must have been Spirit's doing as well. She can be more noble than I'd have thought. I scrambled inside, trying to prevent any further damage to my robes and feet. Much to my dismay, the interior of the apartment building wasn't much better than outside and I quickly found the open wounds on my feet being filled with itchy insulation from the collapsed interior of the building. As I took a moment to dismay over the torn edges of my robe and my battered feet, the journalist came in behind me and the Machoke slammed and barricaded the door back. "We made it. We should be safe." I said, as the large Pokémon started leading us somewhere deeper inside the building.

:sandshrew

Remind me never to do this again.

That was the only intelligible thought that came out of my battered and stressed head as I tried my best to avoid the tail and fangs of my much larger [and more experienced] opponent. I strained to let out an Hypnosis, in complete vain. Something about this Pokémon seemed to make it completely immune. Something about being completely mad must negate the need (and desire) for sleep. As I was about to give it up and fly back into the building, the Machoke kept his end of the deal and let Jeff into the building. Still having enough energy left in me for one great gag, I lead the horrendous serpent to strike out at me with his fangs, just as I disappeared into the wall of the building.

"Kathunk." I heard the satisfactory slam against the building. At least I'd managed to do something other than distract the beast.

Going around the building, I eventually found the cell my monk and his new companion had been given. The two seemed far too worried and disturbed by what had just happened to sleep. The only creature in the room sleeping was the Sandshrew, funny really. Seeing me, Jeff jumped up and said "You made it!" "Just barely..." I replied, if only he could understand my speech. After a good thirty minutes of sitting there watching them be completely unable to sleep, whilst scribbling into a pair of journals and cleaning limbs--ahh the joys of not having a body. I decided that Jeff really needed his rest and used my Hypnosis on him. Not the best manners, but he needed it. I needed rest too...

Morgan followed after the Sage as he headed towards what looked like safety. While his arms were already full with a punch-drunk Charmander, he made an attempt to scoop up Jade, too, which didn’t go so well, and the Sandshrew was quickly back on the ground, moving aside her trainer.

Without any more sneak attacks from behind, the path seemed clear, and Morgan didn’t give any thought to why the sage would suddenly stop moving.

“$*@#!”

Out of nowhere, some kind of black snake lunged at him, and Morgan just barely stepped back in time, falling to the ground as he retreated. Just how dangerous was this place?!

“Groot, smash it!” he shouted instinctively, before remembering that oh yeah, Groot wasn’t here. Just a Charmander who wasn’t reacting much and a Sandshrew who had lost her sudden burst of confidence, running behind Morgan’s position for cover. Fortunately, it was then that the Sage’s Gastly appeared and provided them with a distraction and time to stand up and run for the new escape from danger.

As full as the building was, there was still room for the two of them, and Morgan was glad to get a chance to sit down again. Jade immedietly jumped up on the pillow of the cot he was provided with and went to sleep.

“Oh, right, NOW you settle down.” Morgan said. After what had just taken place, he was feeling like sleep would be a pretty good idea too, but he had some things to take care of first. Such as making sure Mario was alright. Setting the Charmander on the cot, he looked the Pokémon over to make sure there was no serious damage. It looked to mostly be scrapes and bruises, and the flame on his tail was burning as bright as ever, which led him to believe that the lizard just needed a good nights sleep. It wouldn’t hurt to stop by the Pokémon center if had an opportunity, but he didn’t have any fears about it’s well-being.

Which just left one thing, his journal. He needed to keep track of his daily goings on to best recall events when he got around to writing his story. And so out of his bag now on the floor, he produced a pad dedicated to the task, and grabbed his pen.

Althea Trip, Day 1

Arrived at Althea, headache upon disembarking. Headache(V) Left soon enough. Spend rest of day examining New Haven. Dusk arrived, met monk, Sage Jeff. Pidgeot attacked, hit Mario, We(^) escaped.

Jade wore Mario out running around. Helped out chasing off Pidgeot. Happened within “safe” New Haven boarders.

Have I made a mistake?

End entry.

Really, now?
Grading Time!

Space Jawa 2XP
Pretty easy read, and seemed okay with all the aspects of grading. Not much happening, but the way the character is portrayed seems authentic without shoving down the reader's throat that said character is a journalist.

Bcadren 3XP
Decent quality, but taken down by a fair bit of metagaming in the last post which really seemed totally unnecessary, with a overall theme of dragging on. EDIT: Still dragged on, but considered the metagaming was endorsed, it means Bcad too the brunt of the work, which is totally fine and calls for a little boosty boost.

Jawa's XP given to Jade - Munch
Bcad's XP not yet used
