So old it's new.

As a stifled yawn crept out from behind a curled hand, three pairs of tired feet planted themselves firmly onto the concrete helipad. None of the six shoes or paws dared move once stationed, as both possessors were being billeted by the winds that the copter's blades whipped up. Around the man and his dog, a few members of the Dahaka Corporation unloaded too, though they seemed to be a lot more accustomed to the situation, this probably being another of countless journeys they had made. Within a couple of minutes, those who were staying had moved off, and those making the return journey were back on the vehicle, which was already moving back into the air. Efficient. This was what Jacob was thinking, too, as he teetered forward, relieved to not have to worry about the blasting winds, but now agonisingly aware of the disorientating headache that had overcome him since landing. He didn't get jetlag, and he wasn't even sure this journey had been long enough to invite any such phenomenon. Nobody had warned him of any side effects to expect from the journey, so he could only put the unsteadiness in his step and stabbing pain in his temples down to bad timing. Houndour, though, also seemed to be ailed, and Jacob noticed, from under the hand he held to his head, the dog wobbling back and forth too. "Don't worry, Rab, it's not just you" Jacob said, his voiced taxed and slow, as he tried to shake this feeling. If the cause was this island, would it shift in a few minutes/hours as he got used to the area, or would it persist constantly? Equally, what on earth was his head messed up by anyway? Could it have been that bizarre field that messed with electronics, too? Jacob was now thinking back to his discussion with the registration attendant at the centre on the other side of his journey, back in Kanto: It had been in Saffron City and Jacob had been going through the flight procedure, when the pretty young lady had inserted a comment that electrical equipment was severely compromised on the island, rendering Pokedexes, Pokeballs, mobile phones and the like all useless, or at the very best unreliable. At the time, it was a bit of a shock, to hear something so odd, but it didn't take long to accept, and had no real bearing on his decision to enter; so he couldn't browse the net on his iPhone during the tournament, no big deal. Back on a path leading into a small concourse, Jacob had accepted that he was gonna have to just bear the headache and slight stumble, for as long as it persisted, and try to find his way to somewhere comfortable to sit in the meantime. As he walked, his eyes remained fixed on the floor in-front of him, and his own shoes. His unfaltering gaze took in the perfect symmetry of the laces, as each appeared in rapid succession. Quickly satisfied that his shoes were satisfactory, Jacob's hands were tracing his body, searching his pockets, checking he had two Pokeballs in each of the trouser pockets, a small wreath of tissue in his shirt pocket, and a pen adorning his blazer. Perfect. And his head was feeling better already! All in all, it was an uneventful start to the journey. |
