[parent-class=active]Profile Journey Computer[table-class=profile]
[tab-class=profile-info][tabsection][tabs] [tab=Appearance] Green eyes stare out through a pair of slightly skewed glasses perching precariously on the end of his nose. A mop of dirty brown hair just reaches the top of his ears and is in a constant "bed head" look. The rest of his appearance is pretty similar. Unkempt with no effort put into maintaining any sense of fashion or general smartness. Stibble adorns his chin largely due to the fact that he can't be bothered to shave. Every now and then a mote of effort creeps into his morning routine and contact lenses are worn and the stubble is trimmed but this is only on rare occasions where slightly more formal attire is required. Baggy shorts and a shirt is his general attire along with the customary pair of flip-flops. Whatever the season this is his clothing and is seemingly able to shrug off colder periods with ease. The only thing of note he wears is an old Indigo League watch his dad gave him when he was younger. If you had to pick Matt out of a crowd from a description you may struggle. He is plain in every way and can easily melt into any group of people and quickly become unnoticed. At an average height and standard weight, not too fat and not too thin, Matt slopes casually along and draws no attention to himself at all. [/tab] [tab=Biography] The Bike Shop in Goldenrod City was always a family business. Ever since its booming success at the hands of his Great-Great-Grandfather Edward Cauthin, in part due to the advertising provided by the soon champion of that time, the shop passed from father to son right through to the time Matt was born. Unfortunately for him he was born as the youngest of five brothers so the chance of him ever inheriting the shop were next to none. For Matt he spent some long years finding his feet before setting off on what would, he hoped, be his greatest adventure and finally pull him out of the shadow of his brothers. Like all his brothers before him Matt spent his childhood, when not at school, helping around the shop. Quickly learning the skills necessary to fix every model the shop stocked Matt began to hope that someday he would be able to help run the shop with his eldest brother, Richard. These hopes slowly began to fade over the next few years, as they had for the other three brothers before him. Ultimately realizing that he would get no part of the business as the shop always passed to the eldest son his attention quickly drifted from fixing bicycles and onto other pursuits. With his time free, having quit working at the shop, Matt put more effort into his school work and his teachers noted his sudden enthusiasm. His next big dream came when his dad gave him his Indigo League watch. Not really knowing much about the League Matt found some old videos of battles and was instantly hooked. The sheer brilliance of these trainers. The bond they had with their Pokemon. The seamless flow of moves at that level. The entire package was imprinted into Matt's brain at that instance. His school offered a program that allowed the very best students to venture out into the world with their very own Pokémon obtained from Professor Elm in New Bark Town. This was his new goal. All his effort went into making this a possibility. It was a few months before the tests that would decide on his future. Pass these tests and he would be able to have his very own Pokémon and start training. That was when he saw Sam on television. He hadn't seen his second eldest brother in 18 months. He knew he had gone travelling around Johto but nothing could have prepared him for what the news was broadcasting. It was an item on a new challenger at Indigo Plateau. They had managed to best three of the Elite Four and had now gone off to train further. Matt was excited to see what new trainer could possibly have attained that level of ability when his brother appeared on the screen. At that moment he lost all motivation towards becoming a trainer. His brother had already done it. Like the bike shop Matt believed he could never catch up to that level of trainer. The tests came and went and Matt never showed. Matt ambled through the next years of school and eventually graduated with fairly average grades despite his teachers noting that he could have done exceedingly well had the effort been put in. With no future in mind Matt took the first offer that came his way. An internship at the New Bark Town Research Lab with Professor Elm. At least he would get to work with Pokemon, well that's what he thought. He soon realised that it would take years of work before he was allowed anywhere near the valuable research subjects in the lab. He spent his entire first year running errands around Johto for the professor. Deliver this. Deliver that. It would have been alright if he'd had any time to enjoy the region but as soon as his job was finished the professor rang him up with the next assignment. Three years later and Matt had just about got to a stage where he was able to come into contact with the lab Pokemon. Even so all he was put in charge of was caring for the large number of Rattata and Patrat that they bred for experiments. Not the most glamorous of jobs. That was when Jamie, his last and closest brother, dropped in on him unexpectedly. Matt came home one evening to find Jamie waiting on his porch in New Bark Town. He had traveled across the country to the Hoenn region and become a master of the Pokémon contest system. It was while they where sat there catching up that Jamie imparted a bit of knowledge that would stick with Matt and drive him to quit his job and leave the Johto region. He told Matt that whatever he does he must be happy. It doesn't matter a bit if someone has done it before you. Go out there and do it better. A few months later and Matt was on his way to the Alternia region. He had gone home and said his farewells to his parents and to Richard. From there he had headed to Olivine City and scoured the ferry boards for any possible destinations where he could start his Pokémon adventure. A tiny leaflet in the corner of the board caught his attention and upon reading it he knew exactly where he was headed. The Gatsby Research Laboratory in Alternia. He had heard mention of Professor Gatsby while working with Professor Elm and he was offering trainers of any age a starter Pokémon to begin their adventure across the region. Stood on the the ferry on his way Matt vowed to himself that he would work his hardest to be the best he could be at battling. Someday, he hoped, he might even get the chance to battle his brother Sam and prove who was the best. That day was a long way off but Matt knew, as he finally arrived at the Gatsby Research Lab, that he would have a great adventure along the way.......[/tab] [tab=Personality]Having had a number of his dreams shattered through his childhood Matt is now driven by the all consuming desire to carry out this new dream. His teachers always noted that given something he enjoyed Matt was able to achieve whatever he put his mind to. Though lazy in his appearance and outwardly shy and not very outspoken, inside he holds his own opinions and beliefs very highly. If anyone should put forward opposing opinions Matt would not argue but would instead go into a sullen silence and endure the person until he could move on. Matt isn't cocksure but nor is he the opposite. Confident in his abilities, but not bullheaded enough to believe he could not be better, he often gets on with everyone around him. Amiable and friendly once he feels secure in opening up and always ready with a groan-inducing pun should the right occasion arise. At moments though Matt can seem withdrawn and distant. This isn't on purpose his mind just wanders from time to time as he gets lost in daydreams. [/tab][/tabs][/tabsection] Edited by Crosse, Sep 15 2014, 03:45 PM.
