Health and Energy

Pokémon have their own unique physical limitations of how much damage and fatigue their bodies can sustain before fainting. They can reach their limits through either their health or their overall energy levels. Health is generally reduced by enduring attacks, while energy is typically depleted while attacking. The following sections will break down both the HP and ENG specifically and give further detail and information to them.

Health :hp
Health or Hit Points (otherwise known as HP) are essentially the number of "hits" that a Pokémon can take while in battle, while each "hit" itself being points of damage received from an oncoming attack. The maximum health that a Pokémon can have is dependent entirely on their current level, meaning that higher leveled Pokémon will have a larger maximum health than a low leveled Pokémon. To reduce a Pokémon’s health however, they must participate in battle. Through battling, HP will be reduced in points depending on the attacks that a Pokémon sustains from an opponent. The amount of damage that an attack will do is based off a number of factors including: the levels of the Pokémon, the power of the attack being used, and different attributes to the Pokémon such as abilities or STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus). When a Pokémon has reached its limit and its health is depleted to 0, it will faint, making it unable to battle any further.

A Pokémon’s maximum health can be determined by: (Level × 2) + 25
Example

:charmander :male
Level 15
(15×2)+25= :hp 55/55

Energy :eng
Energy is essentially the ability for Pokémon to perform attacks, dodging, and other forms of movement. Like finding a Pokémon’s maximum health, you also use a Pokémon’s level to determine the maximum amount of energy they are able to tap into in battle. Unlike Health, Energy can normally only be depleted by the user itself - though some moves (such as Twister) do have energy draining properties. Naturally, stronger attacks (such as Flamethrower) will deplete more energy for a Pokémon compared to less powerful moves like Ember. Once a Pokémon's energy level reaches 0, it will faint.

A Pokémon’s maximum energy can be determined by: (Level × 3) + 30
Example

:cyndaquil :male
Level 15
(15×3)+30= :eng 75/75
