It seems as though time continues to pass you by, uncaring to your woes and fears as it presses on and forces life to continue on. Just how long had it been since you set out from the cave of your adopted canine family? Surely not that long... but in harsh, unforgiving places such as the area around Shimo, you can never be too sure. Your eyes scanned the horizon as they oft did during your isolation; yet instead of glaciers and the natural beauty of the world greeting your gaze, your eyes alighted upon the city of Shimo. Even out here in the desolate cold wastes, people find ways to survive... just as you had.

There were a few people milling about, each wearing a puffy looking jacket to fight off the cold. It was almost amusing. These people needed their ridiculous winter wear to remain warm and here you are with... well, just your worn old coat. Still, it served its' purpose well enough, so why worry?

-- Upon arriving near town, there had been a peculiar trainer who had thrown something at you before vanishing the next moment. Weird... what was he doing, giving you drugs to hold whilst he made a break for it? Well, not like it mattered, you weren't going to stick around long enough anyway.

However, inside had been some pokéballs and some cash. Deciding to take this as a sign of fate, you pocketed the spare balls. One slipped from your grasp, Lunar managed to nudge it with her nose midfall. The ball had burst open, sucking the little canine into it's depths and before you knew it, the ping signified that she had been caught. You had never planned to capture her, but once again, fate intervened. A moment later, the ball burst open again and Lunar reappeared, nonplussed about what had happened. After explaining it to her, the scarred pooch gave you a happy bark to show she had no qualms about you officially becoming her trainer and the two of you had gone on your way. --

Before you could contemplate any more on your lot in life or the city whose outskirts you now stood upon, movement from the corner of your eye captured your attention. The two Pokémon were white primarily, looking somewhat like snowy pineapples as they came into full view, eying you curiously. Both were male and obviously related in some way... or so you'd think from how close they appeared to be. The slightly smaller was gripping the bigger one's arm as thought frightened.

Well, your first encounter since leaving 'home'. What would you do?

This way felt a little better. An 'accidental' capture plays more to your character not originally planning to contain her within a capsule. I'm not editting again xD

Chapter 1: The icy passage to Shimo.

The winds of the valley had sprawled out of bed, sipping back on that morning cup of coffee and taking a turn for the worse as the pair pushed their way up the steep hillside. Slipping in the shifting snow seemed like it was inevitable, but somehow they’d both managed to keep themselves upright throughout the entire feat. The winds where stronger and colder, sending a small shiver down the boys spine as he swiped at his fringe, pulling it out of his eyes. It was nothing he wasn’t used to; growing up in the valleys surrounding the city it was always cold, on top of which he’d managed to survive one of the harshest winters without his parents, even if he did have some help. Cold weather was a part of him as much as it was a part of Shimo and the terrain surrounding. He was atoned, though it wasn’t his body but his mind, see, he could feel the cold, he just shrugged it off and continued onwards as if he couldn’t.

‘Every damn day,’ he sighed as his eyes glanced across the sky, shaking his head back and forth in pure disappointment. The menacing clouds had slowly crept their way in, covering it in the all too familiar darkness that ran rampant as far as his eyes could see. Lunar hadn’t even noticed the change in weather, standing next to her trainer at the top of the hill; her focus was solely on the city hidden in the ice and snow that was finally in view.

She had stayed by his side the entire trip, matching him step for step as they slowly made their way down the icy path that lead to Shimo. Both often glancing off in to the darkness that surrounded in hope that they’d run across some form of shady activity that they could take care of amidst the snow and wildlife but it seemed like nothing was happening. ‘It won’t be long girl, we’ll find something,’ he whispered to his canine campanion, though she wasn’t the only one that the boy was trying to reassure, he had his own doubts and thoughts, and so far things were looking as if they were going to be a bore.

As they reached the outskirt of town, Corey turned his attention to a large noticeboard that hung on a building to his right; just a bunch of pinned down notes and papers but one in particular had taken his attention from the get go. Some sort of region wide festival giveaway was taking place, and since he had nothing he decided to try his luck. There was only one catch, the gifts where secret and chosen by other trainers, but he figured that free stuff was free stuff no matter what he got. He typed in his required trainer details and sent them off to the number listed at the bottom of the promotion before heading around the outskirts of town in search for thugs and mugs.

It didn’t take too long before the two had ran in to a pair of Pokemon, lurking on the outskirts of town as they turned the corner. The two stood together like a pair of icicles stuck on spot, one grasping the others arm as if it was hanging on for its dear life. They somewhat reminded him of the snow-capped trees of his valley home, only smaller, rounded, and alive. I guess you could say they kind of looked like pineapples, too, though they probably weren’t as tasty. He looked down at Houndour with a grin, without having to say a single word she nodded back at him, it was like she knew exactly what he was about to say before he said it; and she did. Corey was ready for a battle, and so was she.

‘Alright girl,’ He smirked across at the two Pokemon, ‘I want you to use three embers on the smaller one. If you manage to knock it out with one or two then use the third on the bigger one. Let’s see how well we can shape up against two Pokemon.’ Lunar nodded, leaping in to action almost immediately, it didn’t take a genius to see the Pokemon was more than keen on her first battle.

The Snover duo trembled. You deduced it was from fear of the Houndour at your heel; after all, they're part ice type so even the most bone chilling of winters wouldn't serve to force that sort of shiver out of them. It was natural, of course, for the dual ice and grass types to be terrified of your companion. They were exceptionally weak to the canine's fire attacks... and the fact that you were content to lay the smackdown on them only served to deepen their terror.

Lunar gave you a bark of confirmation before turning her attention to the weaker of the two. Flames began to coil in her maw and a moment later, she let forth a scorching Ember attack that took the Snover full on in the face. The bigger Snover reacted to your assault on his brother, throw a barrage of leaves are you in the form of a Razor Leaf. Lunar brushed off the attack as though it was nothing more than a gnat, growling in her throat at the audacity of the stupid pokémon. The weaker followed up with a Razor Leaf of his own, doing even less damage than his brother.

The only thing the Snover brothers had going for them was the Hail storm that suddenly kicked up due to their Snow Warning Ability. Yet even that did a pathetic amount of damage to your Lunar.

She smirked before blasting forth a second Ember that took out the weakest Snover. The eldest roared in pain at his brother fainting, trying to blast Lunar with yet another Razor Leaf. She barked with what sounded like derisive laughter, turning her third commanded Ember upon the pathetic Grass and Ice type.

One more Ember would easily wipe out the remaining Snover... and you'd receive a juicy amount of Experience for your sibling of sorts. That would be nice, wouldn't it? Better get to it then!

Corey stood amongst the falling powder silently; his body slumped in disappointment as the steaming flames spewed and rippled from Lunar’s mouth. He reached for his hood, slowly pulling it over his face to mask his disgust. The battle was going way too easy, and even though he had no qualms with victory he had hoped for a little bit more of a challenge from the brothers. He knew from the initial Poketech reading that he had the type advantage but figured the number and level odds would give them a level playing field, it was clear to him now that he was wrong.

That was the curse of type advantage, his first Pokemon battle and he’d already learned an invaluable lesson –even in victory-, to have a broad scope of abilities and types in his team, otherwise he’d sooner or later suffer an ill-fate similar to that of his foes. A wise man learns by the mistakes of others, a fool by his own.

His blank expression faded to a sinister grin as the first of the two fell, though it was hidden beyond the darkness that’d fallen over his face. Even though it was a quick and almost effortless knockout, triumphing over his foe had still managed to bring him a twisted joy and satisfaction that overcame his disgust in their weakness, reinforcing his first lesson of battle. Lunar was taking each hit without a flinch nor cry, clearly defining her superiority over the two stronger, yet significantly weaker Pokemon as she unleashed the last of her attacks without hesitation; The red flames enveloping the remaining brother much like the first.

To no surprise big brother bill was still standing; it’d taken two attacks to take care of the weaker brother so it was obvious that one wouldn’t finish him, the inevitable was to be dragged out for one more turn. ‘Thank you for the battle,’ Corey’s voice was clear with his disappointment in his opponent, ‘you thought as well as you could, I suppose.’

Lunar stood proud, staring down her opponent as she awaited her next and likely final orders. Her glare was crippling almost, though the front was only for intimidation… as unnecessary as it was; the brothers had been trembling in their boots before the battle had even begun. ‘Are you ready?’ she barked, reinforcing her presence on field.

‘Alright Lunar, finish this with one more ember, two if that’s what it takes. Let’s end this battle now,’
he said, brushing off a piece of snow that had made home on his shoulder, ‘It’d be torture to drag this out any longer, besides, we’ve got to get to the Pokecenter then go Sneasel hunting.’

It was hardly surprising that you felt disappointment in just how easy this battle was turning out to be for your young companion. She was scowling through the onslaught of Hail at her pathetic foe for this battle, feeling that bitter disappointment rising like bile in her throat. Still, any battle experience would make her gain strength, regardless of how painfully easy it was. Lunar growled lightly in her throat as the licking flames gathered once more on you command. She gave a dismissive shake over her head, sending the Ember at her opponent and gave what sounded like a tut of disgust as the Snover fell into the snow. It was smoking slightly, burnt in various places, but she didn't care. Something so weak didn't deserve her pity, never mind her respect.

Lunar turned to you, coming to your side and glancing up at you before the two of you made your way towards the PokéCenter. It wasn't like Lunar was in desperate need of healing... but it wouldn't hurt. Not to mention the fact that you might hear something whilst in town.

Nurse Joy offered you a pleasant smile as you entered, silently recalling Lunar to her capsule to hand it over. The Nurse handed your single pokéball to her assistant Audino and asked you to wait a few moments whilst your pokémon was healed. As promised, moments later, Audino handed the familiar capsule back to Joy who then placed it on the desk for you with a smile and a little bow.

You took Lunar's pokéball and immediately let your companion free again. Lunar barked happily, glancing around the center curiously as you both made your way to the door.

On the way, you overheard a conversation between two young trainers speaking in hushed tones, hoping not to be overheard... too bad for them.

"Are you sure?"

"That's what I've heard... they say pokémon have been disappearing over on the west side of town - wild and trainer owned alike... there's been tell of three punks making off with sacks in the dead of night. God only knows what they're doing..."

"It's scary... I'm keeping my pokémon nearby at all times in that case... why haven't the police stopped them?"

"They haven't been able to find any sign of them..."

...

Interesting.

The roar of battle had quickly faded; the two brothers now motionless as the snow smouldered beneath their charred bodies, side by side still, even in their unconsciousness. Corey sighed in protest pulling down the dark hood that had concealed him, goose bumps crawling across his skin as he scowled at his now, former, opponents; he’d still hoped for more, even though he knew he wasn’t going to get it. Lunar stood proud in her victory however, the last of the embers slowly flickering away in to nothingness, her jagged teeth vanishing with them as she returned to her unblooded brother’s side. Any vestige of disappointment faded as Corey kneeled, firmly running his hand down Lunar’s back.

The worn, tattered overcoat dragged through the snow as he returned to his feet and began to move forward, spurring his companion to follow, "let’s go, Lunar," was all he needed to say, not even the smallest mention of the battle was made. Their relationship stretched much further than words; Lunar knew he was proud of her, any reinforcement of the fact would have been unnecessary to the both of them and expressing himself with words was a rare occurrence.

Corey was completely unfamiliar with Shimo, following street after street to no avail as he searched tediously for the all illusive Pokecenter. It was like he was going in circles for what seemed like hours, however it’d barely been a quarter of one until Lunar vanished from his sight, looming out of the shadows of an alley that he’d passed without consideration and beckoning him with a series of howls then disappearing once again in the darkness,

He continued in silence, stepping around and over the scattered trash cans and bags as he followed Lunar through the alley. Gagging on the air as he moved his scarred hand over his nose and mouth to try and shake the overwhelming odour that was quickly becoming unbearable, but it was almost pointless. The only thing that pushed him forward was the fact that the center was in sight and Lunar was already waiting at the other side.

"Next time take me around," he sighed, taking in a deep breath of the fresh air as he stepped towards the sliding doors of the center, "now let’s get you healed up," he said, returning houndour to its’ ball and stepping inside. The cold slowly ebbed as the doors slid shut and he stepped closer to the counter, handing the ball over to the always lovely nurse and receiving it once she was finished with the mundane task of healing it.

Lunar was once again by his side as they crossed the tiled floors, though they were both brought to a halt as they listened in to a conversation between two young trainers on the other side of the center.

**"Are you sure?"

"They haven't been able to find any sign of them..."**

Corey looked down at Lunar wearing a large grin and in an instant both of them knew exactly where they were going next, sprinting out of the center side by side like they were the leaders of the pack in high school race. Corey pulled his hood back on midstride as they both headed towards the west of Shimo in search of this Pokemon thief and his sack of stolen trinkets.

Fit as a horse - both you - after being healed, not that she wasn't before, Lunar was more than set for the sudden charge out of the PokéCenter after you both overheard the trainers discussing missing pokémon under their breaths. Action, that was what this meant... and that meant getting stronger.

On dashing to the West edge of town, you found... well nothing. On first glance, it seemed like nothing out of the ordinary was going on this side of town... but then Lunar barked and nudged her nose at a series of fresh looking footprints that seemed to be leading away from town and towards the edge of the Frozen Forest... there was three sets of distinct footprints. On set seemed heavier set than the others, the wearing clearly being a boot wearing. The second were lighter, almost like a sneaker wearing teen, whereas the third were so light, they were barely visible under the dim light.

Curious... What was even more curious was the indented trail that followed between the two heavier prints... almost as though something had been dragged between the two...

Well, seems like something is going on over here after all... and to top it off, there is a pair of eyes watching you from the darkness between two buildings just behind you. The owner of the eyes stepped out from the shadows, revealing himself to be Sawk... and he seemed curious as to why you were this side of town.

The fighting type approached the footprints, warily moving around you as he did so. He sniffed at the ground.. and then pelted after the prints at full speed.

Huh... that's weird.
