Alternia Revamp Alternia is currently in the process of a revamp. Some core systems are currently being revised and changed, and a lot of the focus is being put on this. As a result, the normal day-to-day activities of the site may move at a slower pace than average. We ask that you bare with us as we go through this process, and thank you for your patience. |

I figure this is the best place to put this idea so I’m going to post it here. I gave this idea to a staff member a while ago, and since then I have improved and expanded upon it. The original idea was to allow the planting system to be improved upon and allow those with land to continue production. Now it’s expanded to include production Pokemon, and even more so to land threads. So I give to you my idea. The idea I have is to do away with time all together when it comes to production Pokemon and growing system. In truth Alternia doesn’t follow a specific time period except when it comes to months, and even then it’s only used to mark events and contests. That being said having the berry system use a ‘time stamp’ wasn’t the best idea, and as a result it was originally removed. I would also have to say that the post requirement for production Pokemon is also highly inadequate, as a player would need to divide their posts accordingly just so their Pokemon can produce an object. Instead of using posts and time I propose we adopt a point system when it comes to production. What this means is that when a player takes care of their trees or their Pokemon they receive a certain number of points according to their post. These points are then used in order to determine how successful or productive their trees/Pokemon are. Once they receive a certain number of points then their trees/Pokemon reach the next stage, and more points for the following stage, until they reach the final stage in which they receive the final product. The points would be based on three categories: Length, Content, and Action. Length refers to how long the post is. Some players might spend several paragraphs describing how they are taking care of their plants, what they are doing between tending, and how long they are caring for it. They could effectively spend several days tending a plant within one post if it’s long enough. So the longer the post the more points they receive. Content is one of the two that can actually subtract points. This is graded by a player’s grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Even if they have a really long post they can ruin each paragraph by using poor grammar and spelling. Examples would be posts that include: “James planted Oran berry and watered good. He played with Pokemon and watered again at right time. He watched for change and went to weave baskets. Next day watered again in morning.” Posts that follow that theme would ruin the paragraphs, and in the end detract as many points as the length of the post would give. If they show good content then they receive a bonus to the amount of points they receive by length. Action is what they do in order to take care of their trees/Pokemon. This could be anything from watering the plants to brushing the wool on a Mareep. Molding the ball of Low Quality Silk to weeding the trees. How they take care of the trees would also provide a bonus to the point received, but neglecting said trees/Pokemon could also hurt the points earned. One thing you’ll notice is that there’s nothing to grade style. That’s because everyone’s style is different, and should be graded by points because they have a different style. The only points given would be based on those three things. An example of taking care of an Oran berry would include watering the planted berry, tending the plant that sprouts, and doing your best to make sure various Pokemon don’t munch on the sapling. After earning 10 points the berry would turn into a sapling. After another 10 points earned it turns into a young tree. Another 10 points it starts to flower. And after another 10 points it earns the first berry. Every berry afterwards requires another 5 points (can be cumulative) until it reaches the maximum berry limit for Oran trees (if applicable). If they have a limit to the number of berries they produce then you can just chop down the spent berry and do the process all over again. The same theory could be applied to production Pokemon. A Spinarak producing a Low Quality Silk Ball could require 20 points before the ball is finished, and an additional 30 points of resting and being taken care of before it can produce another. So every 50 points you gain another Low Quality Silk Ball. This can be applied to all production Pokemon. Another idea is Pokemon that produce Pokemon eggs. While those that are carried by a player still require the post requirement, those that are left at a daycare could also follow the point system. It would require a larger number of points to hatch, but it would also allow a player to produce Pokemon without actually having to be there. That said here’s where I’m expanding the idea. A completely new forum devoted to nothing but land property and out of party production Pokemon. A place similar to the freeform section that’s been created, but where players could go to tend their farms. A lot of players (myself included) are probably going to leave their property in order to get a certain Pokemon or item to expand their land. Because of that they leave some of their Pokemon to tend and defend their production. I propose that within this new forum they can control their Pokemon and still have their land produce items. That way they can still journey and satisfy their desire to adventure; without having to take down time needed to properly care for their land and still acquire points in order to continue production. Another idea behind the new forum is that other players could enter in order to buy, sell, or even steal some of the product (within limits). Staff could also enter to cause events to happen that would require the owner/Pokemon to take action. Things like wild Pokemon coming to steal berries, a huge storm coming, or even a random burst of growth that adds points to the trees/Pokemon. It would add randomness of adventures to the land, and also give the player more things to rp with. All that said you can even have a new group of staff whose sole purpose is to manage the land forum. They read the posts, generate the required amount of points, post said points in a small paragraph, and modify the appropriate land topic to reflect said points. They can even add the amount of items produced and where the player (or Pokemon) tending the land placed them. Some players don’t have a storage shed so they just might hide them in a hole or something. After all that it all boils down to how productive the player wants to be. Those that spend a lot of time tending their land while waiting for a ref request would obviously get more than those who barely do anything. Those who actually work at their land threads would get more, and those who do the bare minimum would get less. It balances out, and I think this system would be a great idea for the board. That’s the full extent of my plan so far, and I might add more later. I welcome any comments, modifications, or even critiques about it and submit it for staff consideration. I would even be willing to be one of the members in charge of said forum. |

Land Baron and Counter King - Alternia's Old Man

Let me address you additions to the idea, regarding adventuring away from the farm: I already do that. That's what my hired NPC let's me do. The NPC tends the farm, and all the Pokemon and plants in a free form post. I've even used my NPC to create items for me. As for your point system: it doesn't feel much different then the time stamps. When you have as much going on on the farm as I do, you make a post about the farm every ref anyways, and the work being done there. As for real gardening, I can tell you, most of the time you don't have to do anything. I had three tomato plants that, once planted, I never did anything for and still got tons of tomatoes. The only thing I like about the counters is that they're universal. Berries, production Pokemon, eggs and egg moves all use counters. I don't really want 3 different systems to track the development cycle of things. I know Sora's working on the farming idea, and trying to revamp it. Let's wait and see what he has.
