It was time. The moment you all had been waiting for. The crowds, the cheers, the thrill of battle... all of it began right here. This is the Tournament of Champions. Here you could cement your greatness or jumpstart your [professional battling career to new heights. Here you would get recognition as a serious trainer, and the results of your effort would all come out on the battlefield. A loss doesn't mean total failure; it just meant you had work to accomplish. But a win... a win was a win, no matter what. You guys had walked down a rather barren hallway on either side of the stadium (each team was in a different hallway), with only a bunch of empty frames hanging from small nails. Above the frames was a large gold plaque that read: PAST TOURNAMENT WINNERS. Only one picture frame was filled with a face: the stoic, almost cocky face of the legendary Remy Dupris. From the looks of the lobby, which you all had been in only a minute or so earlier, the facility was pretty new; everything was clean and blue, and the tiles on the floor shone brightly as if you were stepping on translucent glass. You had spent the time waiting your turn and reading up on your opponents' Pokemon. You all certainly had some formidable battles under your belt at some point in time, and the crowd was surely looking forward to seeing you guys fight. The hallways were split into two. Along with the picture frames, there were two elevators at the end of the corridor. Each member of the team would have his own elevator, which would bring him to his battle station. But now you were in the white-splotched hallway, with no sound except your own breathing and the sound of your footsteps echoing off the walls. You had to walk for a while, and you managed to count at least twenty empty pictures. But finally, you made it to a solid metal elevator, the silver doors shining, proof that they were brand new. As you entered, you realized that the elevator had glass windows to let you see your surroundings. As you went up, there was not much to see except the dark walls and the cable holding the elevator up. But then you saw what looked like dirt, and within a second you were able to witness the Colosseum and everyone watching. When both sides of the audience saw the four elevators break the surface, they let out a roar of delight. The arena was rocking; you guys had garnered quite the fan base on the way to the tournament with your battling, and both sides of the arena proved it. You guys heard a cacophony of noise, as the crowd chanted both of your names. Unfortunately, they were cheering all of you on at the same time, so you couldn't actually understand that they were calling your names. The stadium was rather bare, as far as scenery goes. Most of the arena was made up of soft, loamy ground, and in the middle there was a large symbol drawn in white paint, which looked like a Pokeball. On the left and right sides were two small ponds that let trainers use their Pokemon that are particularly immobile without water, like Magikarp or Remoraid. The battle area itself wasn't massive, probably because the Pokemon you were using weren't particularly massive either. You two continued to rise above the ground level of the stage, for there were a large set of simple stairs to the side, allowing you two to see above the stadium itself. You managed to see two other stadiums; one much smaller than this one and another that was much, much larger. Those were probably to accommodate the larger and smaller Pokemon. I mean, who wants to run forward 300 feet to Scratch an opponent anyhow? As you exited the elevator and stood on the battling platform, you examined the array of technology in front of you. There were holders for six Pokeballs, one for each of your Pokemon. There was also a massive screen that held all the information about your Pokemon, your partner's Pokemon, and your opponent's Pokemon. In the bottom-right corner of the screen, you saw an icon of a microphone; if you clicked it, you could contact your teammate through video chat and discuss strategy. Health bars and energy levels would be monitored on the screen as well. This screen was situated on the top of a large set of stairs, which you would have to walk down to release your Pokemon and shake your opponents' hands. Fortunately, that would be the only time you'd need to walk down the stairs, because two small speakers situated at the base of the stairs would be used by you to give your Pokemon orders. Of course, you could always walk down the stairs to talk to your Pokemon in person. A male announcer's voice came out from four large speakers situated throughout the stadium. "Welcome ladies and gentlemen! We are proud to present the first semifinals battle of the second Tournament of Champions! This is a match-up between two incredible teams with formidable Pokemon and even more formidable battle records. On the red team, we have a couple of upstarts certainly on their tournament upswing, Sengjin and Chris Seenter! On the blue team, we have a newcomer and a very familiar face; Klein Valent and your very own Nimakura Sen! "You know the obvious rules. There will be no trying to mask your orders under other languages and other signals. Keep it at least somewhat cordial. The semifinals rule only allows for moves of the Pokemon's type and moves from the Global Attack List, or GAL. Please also keep in mind that there is no longer any switching out! Good luck to all of you!" You guys nodded and walked toward each other. After the formal handshakes and wishes of good luck, you returned to your respective battle stations and released your Pokemon. As you did so, your faces came up on the massive Jumbotron. "Looks like Red Team is sending out Teddiursa and Roserade, while Blue Team is calling out Typhon the Druddigon and Dwebble! Now to the coin flip. Team Blue has called heads, and it is... heads! So Team Blue will call out first." {Please keep in mind that the time limit for posting has been reduced to three days per person to speed up these battles as much as possible.} Edited by MilesMilitis, May 31 2012, 01:23 PM.

Klein had mellowed out since losing his shit the last round. It was a good thing too because he didn't want to look like a lunatic all the time... just when it benefited him. When he took the arena stage again and brought out his druddigon Typhon he seemed oddly confident. Talking with your teammate before the round had a tendency to do that. He also kind of apologized for going bug funk crazy. He'd make up for his sloppiness last round by practically reading Sen's mind and knowing exactly what was up. Especially once he tossed out a Stealth Rock. Typhon go on and knock that Roserade back to the bench with a Dragon tail. Then go help Sen's Dwebble clean up the Teddiursa by Belly Flopping it." Klein gave Sen the thumbs up. This round they'd be in sync instead of flailing around like a couple of morons. Last round was an embarrassment to them. This round they'd make a better showing hopefully. It was time to kick some ass. |

Coming before the crowd of people a second time Chris was a bit more at ease. True their last battle was called because their opponents were disqualified, but Chris was sure they could have won easily. Pulling out his Pokeball Chris called for a Pokemon of his that the crowd hasn’t seen yet. His powerful Roserade. The grass/poison Pokemon appeared in a cross-legged fashion similar to that of a Meditite. She stood up with a determined look in her eyes as she faced her opponents. Glancing back at Chris; Chris could see a twinkle in her eye. In her arms she held the Red Card, the trump card for what they were about to do. “Lets go Roserade. They want to Stealth Rock us? Let’s Toxic Spike them. And if you can finish with a Leech Seed on Dweeble.” If the Druddigon managed to send Roserade back to the bench with Dragon Tail then there was a chance that both would be sent back. That meant that if the Toxic Spikes managed to land then their team would be at a disadvantage. Hopefully more so than the Stealth Rock on their side. |

Well, here they were, at the semifinals. Stepping on the battlefield for the second time was a little less nervous, even though the stakes were higher than before. If Sengjin and Chris beat their opponents, that meant they would advance to the finals and be in contention for the prize, which was something that must have been valuable, he couldn't remember. Anyway, after a brief exchange of greetings to Chris, Sengjin sent out his pokemon, teddiursa. Blue team won the coin toss, allowing them to be the first ones to strike. Not the greatest way to start the battle, but in the end it wouldn't matter anyway. He heard his opponent's orders, the crowd unusually quiet for the first round, and heard that his opponent's were aiming for mainly teddiursa. "Okay, teddiursa, they're coming for you so stay light on your toes. Use a swords dance to boost up your attack, then use a slash on the dragon type pokemon thing! The opponent's stone edge is fairly inaccurate, but still, stay light on your toes and try to avoid the incoming attacks!"

Tournament of Champions - Semi-Finals Sengjin/Chris Seenter VS Klein Valent/Nimakura Sen "Looks like the first battle of the Semi-Finals is about to begin! Both teams advanced due to their opponents dropping out. Will that affect their battle performance? It looks like we'll find out soon, folks!" The crowd cheered for their favourites, tossing some popcorn or peanuts at each other in a way to show who they supported. Of course, those were only the die hard fans, the majority of the stadium was watching eagerly for the action to begin. The round started with a display of status moves. Stealth Rock was tossed out by Nimakura's Dwebble, almost instantly followed by Chris's Roserade throwing out a layer of Toxic Spikes. Sengjin's Teddiursa spun around and sharpened his claws with Swords Dance to mightily increase his attack strength. He also swallowed his Toxic Orb, badly poisoning himself. "A bold strategy for Mister Sengjin, giving his own Pokemon a non-volatile status ailment. How will this affect the battle?" I'm sure Sengjin has a plan for this, possibly involving Facade, otherwise it is a very...interesting move to make. As soon as Typhon the Druddigon saw Roserade send out her Toxic Spikes he dashed at her with Dragon Tail. The dragon's tail glowed light blue as he swung it around to knock Roserade back into her Pokeball! Typhon's victory was short lived, however, as Roserade's Poison Point poisoned him! Not only that, but he too was sent back to his trainer due to Roserade's Red Card! "Wow! A double switcheroo! I haven't seen one of those since the Nimbasa incident of 1983! It's interesting how the trainers have bypassed the no switching rule. Just goes to show the talent we're dealing with here, isn't that right folks!" The crowd roared for their respective favourites. Teddiursa, suddenly without a target, didn't really know what to do. Dwebble saw his chance and took it, blasting out a Stone Edge. The first his Teddiursa hard, dealing critical damage! "Nailed a weak spot!" However, Teddiursa managed to dodge the second. His Quick Feet ability activated when he was poisoned. So that was Sengjin's strategy all along! Well it worked out, because the bear was quick enough to avoid the powerful attack. Klein and Chris gave no orders for substitutions (why would they), so the Pokemon sent out were chosen at random. "Looks like the switchers are being sent out at random! From Klein's side I see Merry the Flaaffy emerge, and from Chris it seems that Raichu was sent out! Well, looks like it'll be a battle of electricity over here!" The crowd was going crazy! Seriously, what is in that popcorn? I can even hear a chant from them calling out. "Krazy Klein! Krazy Klein! Krazy Klein!" You can almost hear the 'k' in 'krazy'. Looks like Mister Valent's calm demeanour is putting a damper on some of their spirits. They want to see the crazy side of you! Well, can you blame them? They're sports fans, of course they want the crazy! Merry and Raichu were sent out into the fray, getting hit by Toxic Spikes and Stealth Rock respectively. Looks like both sides' strategies are working out. Overall you've got a pretty even match here. Klein and Nimakura are winning on the damage side of things, however Sengjin and Chris have a wide arsenal of techniques with which to counter their opponents. "It's an explosive first round, and it's still anybody's game, folks!" Team Klein/Nimakura Team Sengjin/Chris "What a powerful battle here, isn't this exciting! It looks like Sengjin and Chris will issue orders first next round!" Edited by Jsol, Jun 7 2012, 05:24 PM.

A slight smile appeared on his lips as Roserade managed to litter their opponent’s side of the field with poisonous spikes. The slight smile grew into a full fledged grin when their opponent accidentally got hit by one of Roserade’s Poison Points and extracted some of the poison. He then added a fist pump when the attack also managed to switch their opponent out for another who also got poisoned. It would have been a perfect combo if his own Pokemon wasn’t sent back to her Pokeball as a result. However it was a good strategy and Chris held up the now Pokeball with a smile. “You did a great job Roserade. You’re not out of this battle yet, but rest up.” Looking up Chris gave a slight cringe at seeing Raichu out on the field. The electric Pokemon looked around confused while holding his magnet in his arms, and then turned to look back at Chris. While his electric Pokemon might be stronger than his opponent’s Mareep; it wasn’t one of the three Pokemon Chris wanted to use this round. The next one he wanted out was Milktank, but you can’t control a forced swap. You just had to do what you had to do, especially since he couldn’t trade back to Roserade. Glancing at both Pokemon Chris motioned to the Dweeble. “Alright Raichu; focus your attention on the Dweeble. I want you to use Thunder Wave on it and follow up with an Electro Ball and a Thunderbolt. Try to use both attacks to strike at the same time.” A slight charge was all his confirmation that Raichu heard him. |

A very hectic and confusing turn for Sengjin, but now that things have slowed down, he could think clearly about what he was going to do next. The plan was quite simple, for obvious reasons, just keep attacking until the opponent's pokemon are knocked out. A stone edge managed to land a critical hit on teddiursa, which was unfortunate for him, but at least he took the hit like a champion and held on. Now that it was Sengjin and Chris' turn to go first, it was time to inflict hard hitting moves on them. "Okay, teddiursa, use facade on the flaaffy. If two isn't enough to take it out, use one more. If two IS enough to take it out, use a facade on the dweeble." Sengjin grinned slightly, he's been waiting a long time to try this strategy out. Even though toxic orb sapped away some health from teddiursa, it benefited him offensively by giving him a speed boost and a stronger facade. He just hoped that teddiursa would be able to stay around for the next few turns. "Remember, teddiursa, stay light on your toes. If that dweeble uses stone edge, you have a good chance to dodge it due to its lower accuracy and your superior speed."

Flaaffy was out, he couldn't have asked for a better choice. It kept his ace in the hole unknown and with druddigon already poisoned he was free to send him back out later to avoid damage from the toxic spikes. The roar of the crowd and their chants for him to go nuts grabbed his attention. It wasn't time yet, no, not yet. He gave Sen the thumbs up letting him know he understood. There was a lot of attacks coming his way and not much time to mitigate the damage. He had something big and nasty waiting in the wings for these guys. Sen told him to do something asinine in the long run but Klein shrugged and went with it. He'd remember it down the road and bring it up later if they lost this thing. "Merry try to hit teddiursa with a thunderbolt and slam Raichu with a thunder wave before you get taken out." Edited by Seraph, Jun 4 2012, 01:55 PM.

Tournament of Champions - Semi-Finals Sengjin/Chris Seenter VS Klein Valent/Nimakura Sen The second round of combat was full of action. Sengjin's Teddiursa started things off, boosted by his Quick Feet. He dashed at Flaaffy and delivered a big hit with Facade. Fighting through the poison he managed to give a strong blow. Flaaffy was knocked back a few feet, but recovered swiftly and delivered a Thunderbolt, blasting the bear back. "Wow! Hung on by the skin of his teeth!" The announcer was correct, Teddiursa was just barely hanging on. He delivered his final Facade before being taken by the poison. Meanwhile, on the other side of the field, Raichu and Dwebble were duking it out. Dwebble was summoning all his strength to produce a Rock Wrecker of epic proportions. However, the lightning mouse moved a bit faster than the little hermit crab. He managed to land his Thunder Wave, slowing down Sen's Pokemon even more. However, despite the setback the crab did not stop his efforts to summon Rock Wrecker. Raichu hit him with an Electro Ball, dealing big damage due to the speed drop caused by Thunder Wave. Finally, Dwebble brought forth a massive rock from the earth and chucked it at Raichu, dealing huge damage! "Wow! What a hit! Raichu will be feeling that one later." Raichu was reeling back from the attack, but recovered just in time to be hit by a Thunder Wave! Looks like that speed bonus to Electro Ball is gone. In fact, Raichu was fully paralyzed, and rendered immobile and unable to use his Thunderbolt. Merry the Flaaffy was hurt by the poison coursing through her veins, and just couldn't take it. Having done her job, she dropped to the ground unconscious. "Wow! A double knockout! Looks like both teams will have an interesting decision to make about who's sent out next." Team Klein/Nimakura Team Sengjin/Chris "A truly remarkable battle, folks! It looks like Klein and Nimakura will issue orders first next round!" Edited by Jsol, Jun 7 2012, 05:24 PM.

That could have gone slightly better but it was good enough. Klein reached for Typhon's pokeball and sent the mighty dragon back out into the fray. It was time to start the hit and run tactics that they couldn't quite do earlier thanks to that redcard Roserade had. Man that was infuriating! Klein gripped the console and let out a laugh. It was starting... the anger was bubbling up. He let his head roll back and he let out a good, long, nice laugh. "Let's go wild Typhon!" The words the crowd was waiting to hear since Klein's earlier outburst was apparently enthralling enough that they wanted more. Well they were getting their wish... more or less. Klein was still deadly focused but now he was letting his wilder side out to play. Buttons were loosened and MP3 player volume notches were cranked. Time to go nuts. "Typhon! Let's crank the beat up YEAH Hit that Raichu with a dragon tail, don't let up though, oh no! Smack the next pokemon that Sengjin sends out before it knows whats coming but make sure those stealth rocks make it hurt!" Edited by Seraph, Jun 8 2012, 11:24 AM.

Crap! Things weren’t going exactly like Chris had hoped. Sure they managed to knock out the Flaffy, but Raichu was seriously injured. Not only that the Dweeble was still standing. Talk about an annoying bug that Chris wanted to squash. However he couldn’t feel bad about it because the next Pokemon on the list was the dragon Pokemon Roserade managed to send back in the first round. The one with the annoying Dragon Tail that forced his own Pokemon into her Pokeball. Unfortunately since it was poisoned Thunderwave wouldn’t work, and Raichu was too slow to really be of much use because of the paralysis. “Raichu! Try your best to hit Dweeble with your Thunderbolt before you’re hit with Dragon Tail.” This was going to be painful for two reasons. Raichu might get knocked out just from the hit, and whoever was being sent out next would get hit with Steal Rock. He really hoped that it was his Roserade that would be next, or his Quagsire. He seriously hoped it wasn’t Wobbuffet. The psychic Pokemon was a good tank, but only when he could use all his moves. In this match he was severely limited. Even though it might look weird Chris opened his coat to reveal his other six Pokeballs tucked into pockets sown on the inside. While he couldn’t predict who was getting sent out he could still give orders in hopes that they would survive. “If any of you get sent out; do your best to fight back. Roserade use Magical Leaf; Quagsire Earthquake; Milktank Double Team; Torkoal Firespin; and Wobbuffet….” Chris cringed at the next order he gave. “….if you get sent out try and that dragon with Belly Flop.” In the end Chris couldn’t help but let a small tear fall from his right eye. If Wobbuffet was sent out it would be as a sacrificial lamp to the slaughter. Unless his opponents used a special attack then Wobbuffet would be nothing more than a barrier against Pokemon more equipped to fight. That was not right with Chris. He didn’t want any of his Pokemon to be a sacrifice. Stupid type rule. He wiped the tear from his face and put on his determined look. No matter what they were going to win. |

Things didn't go as well as Sengjin had hoped, but he was glad that teddiursa was at least able to knock out the flaafy, leaving him with one less pokemon to worry about. Speaking of which, it was now time for him to send out his next pokemon. He was unsure of who to send out next, especially since the pokemon he would send out could only use moves of the same type; sending out the wrong pokemon would cost them the tournament. After thinking long and hard about who to send next, he decided to send out bronzor to battle. Not wasting any time, he quickly gave out his orders to bronzor. "Okay, bronzor, use a reflect to help soak up some damage. Afterwards, use an imprison to stop them from using the same attacks over and over again. Finally, use an extrasenssory on that dragon pokemon. Let's see if we can flinch him!" Only one offensive move he ordered to bronzor, but he knew that bronzor's moves would help him and his teammate, Chris, immensely. Or so, at least he hoped.
