Kupo?
As you were herded off the boat, you and the rest of the tourists were left on Shimo Dock. It was summer and yet snow was everywhere. On the trees, on the floor, and on the buildings-snow was everywhere. The temperature was pleasingly cool, and soon the tourists from the boat dispersed leaving you by your lonesome. The city contained your typical Pokemon Center and Pokemart. It even had a gym. In the background, past the city, a forest flocked with white snow laid silently still. Who knows what lies in this frozen forest?
Anyways, since you're a trainer, you might as well battle and train your pokemon, right? Up ahead, past the stores and tourists, a little park was here. It was a mini-wild pokemon sanctuary. A young boy could be seen with his Rattata battling the other wild Rattatas inhabiting the park. Care to join the fun?

Dominic was enjoying the warmer weather, though you couldn’t tell from the expression on his face. The trainer held his one and only Pokemon in his right hand which was contianed in its Pokeball. He walked down the street from the docks and spotted the small wild Pokemon sanctuary. There was a boy battling Rattata with his own mouse Pokemon. Dominic entered the sanctuary to get in some practice before leaving town. The preserve was full of Rattata, which were perfect for beginner trainers like Dominic. The young man found one in some grass knowing on a stick. When the creature spotted him, it jumped up and hissed. Dominic smirked at its attempts at being intimidating. He tossed up his own Pokeball.

"Time for a bit of practice Blythe," he said casually. The ball opened and in a flash an Aipom appeared. She chattered excitedly and crawled up her trainer and perched herself on his shoulder. The little monkey was not much like her trainer. She was friendly, upbeat, and energetic. Dominic normally shied away from people with these personality traits, but for some reason he didn’t mind her. In fact, he enjoyed her company. But he didn’t have time for pleasantries at the moment; there was a battle to be had.

"Blythe open with Tail Whip. This Rattata is a bit more experienced than us. We will want to get any advantage we can!" Dominic explained his tactics to the monkey. She smiled with her eyes shut and nodded. Blythe jumped from his shoulder to face her opponent. The rat Pokemon hissed again and arched its back, but Blythe cheerily hopped side to side. Then, she quickly went in for the first move. She ran at her opponent looking as if she were going to attack, but instead she simple slapped the Rattata across the face gently with her tail. After making her move, Blythe dashed back to where she had begun. Dominic waited to see what the wild Pokemon would do next. He figured Blythe should be able to dodge any attack as long as Dominic gave her enough heads up.

Greetings, D.G I'll be your ref for today. I'm Nimbus and it's a pleasure to be your ref for today. It appears as if you got yourself a little trouble on your hands. You saw a trainer in the distance, and he was fighting off other pokemon. You appeared to go and help him taking down one of the opponents while he took out another. You didn't speak to him, though you threw down your pokemon and opted to train. Very noble of you, my newly hatched bird. You'll do well here, I hope you grow your wings fast, and set forth for the future as a trainer here. Let us get back to the battle at hand shall we?

You had been up against a Rattata, it was a wild one. You had yourself an Aipom quite the soon to be powerhouse. Were you ready for your first ever pokemon battle? It seems like your adorable Aipom was. You had ordered a tail whip attack, and the Rattata sure felt the decrease in defense. Soon it would be nothing, but an open target waiting to be sent down in defeat. The two purple pokemon just seemed to stare at each other the wild pokemon with a snarl on it's face ready to unleash a beat down like your Aipom has never seen. You watched as you saw the Rattata's body get tight, it was using focus energy. With an inhale of it's breath, the ability to score critical hits was raised. Even though the purple rat's defense was dropped it gained a raise in Critical Hit percentage. Though that wasn't it, the Rattata wasn't quite done with you yet. Since you disturbed it while it was in it's natural habitat the young rat took offense, great offense. You saw it turn around and use a tail whip attack on your cute little Aipom.

You looked and for a second the Rattata vanished. It was speeding quickly towards your Aipom. It was rushing head first, going quicker than most pokemon could. It slammed it's shoulder into your Aipom. It hit it with a Quick Attack. Your Aipom went skidding on the ground for a brief couple of seconds before it stopped itself from sliding any further than it already did. The Rattata, got a smile on it's mousy face and made a sound that sounded like a whistle. You heard a rustle in the bushes around you, you could see another two Rattata sticking their faces out of them. Would they join in the torment of your Aipom and unleash more moves onto it? No they just stood their waiting and watching like a little cheer squad.

So let's figure everything out right now shall we? We have your Aipom being hit with a quick attack after it's defenses were lowered. Rattata had it's defense lowered due to a tail whip attack. Lastly you had a cheer squad staring at your Aipom probably ready to take action if their friend is getting beaten badly. So what would you like to do?

Dominic was taken aback by the swiftness with which the Rattata moved. He hadn’t been expecting a battle to move so quickly. This surprise however only presented itself in a slight twitch of frustration across the trainer’s face. He flicked some hair from his face and refocused on the battle. The young man decided to play along with this bully of a Rattata. Dominic ignored his cheering fan based that hid themselves in the bushes. They were not of his concern. For now he needed to focus on the battle at hand. The trainer was confident that his Pokemon could handle a blow like that even if it was a bit of a heavy one. As if to confirm this notion, Blythe popped right back up from the attack. The monkey did a back flip and landed in a battle ready pose. At this move, the audience chattered with excitement. The Rattata only fed into Blythe’s confidence.

"Blythe charge and use Scratch, but try to deceive it into thinking you’re going to attack with your hand, the twist to the side, and use your tail. Be prepared for any counter attack that the rat may pull. Then use Scratch again," Dominic’s orders cut through the Aipom’s moment like a knife through butter. She had been about to take a quick bow to her adoring populace, but quickly diverted her energy into the task her trainer had laid before her. The purple monkey ran head on at the oversized rodent. It tensed and hissed once more. With her ever present grin across her face, the Aipom lunged at the Rattata. There was a moment when time seemed to slow down, not unlike the Matrix. Blythe gracefully turned clockwise to dodge the attack and as she passed by she attempted to hit the Rattata on the side.

Dominic knew this move may be a bit risky, but it could pay off quite well in the end. Blythe was eager to please and would at the very least give her all until the very end, thus the trainer believed his Pokemon would be able to pull of this fairly complicated maneuver, at least complicated for a Pokemon as young as her. He remained as stoic as ever as her watched intently to see how the battle would unfold.

Going allout on the offensive, Blythe cleverly maneuvered towards the Rattata. At first the monkey warrior looked to be ready to lash out with her arms and claws. The Rattata got ready to block the attack, and didn't end up seeing the tail come slicing down. The purple rodent squeaked loudly in pain. He responded by tackling your Aipom and knocking the wind out of her. You could hear a multitude of squeals, and paying attention you could see the little Rattatas in the bush looking concerned. The Rattata you were battling turned around and snarled. The little ones hushed up almost immediately.

Taking this momentary distraction, Blythe lashed out again, creating twin sets of red lines on the back of the Rattata. The claws dug in deep, leaving painful looking wounds. Not quite out for the count, the Rattata stood back up and suddenly started smacking Blythe in the face with her tail. The degrading move lowered Blythe's defense.

Well that ended up being the long and short of it. Apparently the Rattata's crowd was more personal than you thought. Do you have the heart to continue the battle?

Dominic watched the battle’s progression with a serious expression. He was pleased that Blythe was able to go toe-to-toe with a stronger Pokemon. Her bread and butter would definitely become her speed and agility. Though, they both needed some refinement at this point in their training. The purple monkey hopped from foot to foot in anticipation of what her trainer would tell her next. Her breathing had become a bit more labored and signs of fatigue where begin to bud. The young trainer quickly formulated another battle strategy.

"Run at the Rattata and use Sand Attack. While it is distracted by the attack, sneak in for another Scratch. Then use Sand Attack again," Dominic said almost flatly. The Aipom responded with a flip of excitement then ran at the purple rodent. Armed with her near creepy smile, Blythe scooped up some wet earth beneath some snow and flung it at the Rattata. It was not the same appearance as a normal Sand Attack, but it would get the job done. Blythe continued charging and once she was closer jumped up and came down on the Rattata after a front flip using her tail to attack the rat’s back.

Ah what a strange world we live in where a rat and a monkey (both purple, no less) engage in a fight for no other reason than because the rat was there, and a human commanded the monkey to do so. Be careful, if this monkey of yours is too smart, it may grow tired of being ordered around, and well... if you've seen 'Planet Of The Apes' you know what comes next. Anyway, enough of my attempts at topical ref banter, let's get to the battle, shall we?

So, you were definitely at a disadvantage level-wise, and it was beginning to show. Your Aipom had started out with less available hit points than your opponent, and you weren't closing the gap very quickly. Surely you would have to find a way to level the playing field, or come to terms with losing your first battle to a pokemon generally manhandled by small children and their completely untrained starter pokemon. Nothing like starting off your journey as a laughing stock. Sand Attack was likely a good option - forcing your opponent to give up a whole attack each round was definitely a good way to tip the scales... if it worked.

Running into battle, your Aipom dragged its tail across the ground, gathering dust and debris, then lept into the air, flinging its tail forward underneath its body, launching the fine powder into the rats eyes... however, what you hadn't counted on was Rattata running toward it as well, so even as it did, it screamed out in pain as the Rattata's teeth clamped down on it's tail. At first you thought maybe this little rat was stronger than you thought, having already learned Bite, but Aipom was able to shake loose far too easily, so it was apparent this was little more than a tooth based strike. No sooner did Aipom hit the ground, then it began to close the small gap again, readying the small claws in its paw, as Rattata lowered its head and began to charge, slightly off course due to sight problems caused by the sand. However, once Aipom's claws made contact, the more battle experienced Pokemon had the guide point it needed, corrected, and collided with a tackle at the same time, both pokemon hitting their moves and being knocked back simultaneously.

Finally, already looking quite a bit worse for wear, Aipom obeyed your instructions and began gathering a powder for the second sand attack, which couldn't have come at a better time, as the persistent Rattata charged for a second tackle. Aipom sprayed it in the face and dived out of the way as the rats eyes closed, trying in vain to avoid the blinding debris, and collided with the ground, rather than your pokemon.

Aipom took a major beating that turn, but Rattata now seems significantly disoriented. The question is, how do you proceed now?

Dominic was less than pleased at the events that had followed his commands. He needed to proceed with extreme caution. Any little misstep he could be defeated by a mere Rattata. If there were any consolation in that possible defeat it would be that the Rattata was stronger than most Rattata in the area. But, still that was no excuse to lose to it. Dominic pondered for only a second then came up with a plan.

"Blythe, I want you to wait for the enemy to attack. I want you to dodge any attack that comes your way, then once you have safely avoided the attack use Scratch. I want evasion and defense the top priority from now on." Dominic stated, his voice showed a small amount of the rising intensity in his body. He felt that this was a very safe plan of action, but it all depended on how well Blythe could still move. After all, the little monkey was on her last leg. But being the trooper she was. Blythe did her best to meet her trainer’s expectations. She took a fighting stance and waited for the large rodent to make its move.

Well it seemed like your Aipon was in dire straits in this battle, but the Rattata was clearly not operating on all cylinders either! It was a crucial round for both sides, so let's skip the rest of the intro fluff and go right down to the battle, shall we?

The Rattata was confused, disoriented, and more than a little Pissed off. Blythe was barely standing on her own two feet, using her tail to prop her up and keep her in the fight. It was then that the Rattata launched itself forward and tried to attack your little purple monkey Pokemon. Blythe was swaying back and forth, certainly looking like she had no defensive capabilities at all, when all of a sudden she pulled off an amazing dodge! The Rattata hit the ground hard, having missed due to its lowered accuracy. Blythe went on the counter-attack and unleashed a Scratch attack, giving it everything she had to try and please her master. Her claws and tail bit deep as the Rattata howled in pain.

Unfortunately, this was right where the Rattata wanted to be. Suddenly, he turned around and launched another Tackle attack. This time, Blythe had manuevered in too close, and had no hope of dodging. She got blasted back, landing in a heap on the ground. She tried in vain to get up, but found that she was unable to. The battle and victory belonged to the Rattata!

:aipom gets 7 :exp !
:aipom grew to Level 6 with 2 :exp left over!

:rattata gets 7.1 :exp !
:rattata grew to Level 8!

The big Rattata was breathing hard, barely able to stand up on his own. He eyed you down, as if trying to assert his dominance. Well Blythe may have lost the battle, but clearly you still had a shot at capturing the Rattata if you so desired. Clearly he could prove to be a powerhouse in the right hands. Of course, you could choose to let the Rattata go as well.

Either way, after you made your decidsion, you'd have to stop by the Pokemon Center. Thankfully you were really close to one, so you could walk away right after you decided whether or not to try and attempt to capture the Rattata even though it isn't fainted. What do you think, trainer? Go for it? Leave it behind and go heal up? Your call!

Dominic cursed in his mind as Blythe fell to the ground. He wasn’t angry at his Pokemon; he knew she was doing her best. The young man was angry at himself for not better guiding her in the battle. It was his fault for the loss not hers. Dominic looked down at Blythe who lay on the ground a few feet from him. The trainer walked over and crouched down next to her. With an ever so slight smile, He pulled out the monkey’s Pokeball and returned her to it.

"Good work Blythe," Dominic said, and then stood up. The Rattata stared fiercely at Dominic. Though he hated to admit it, Dominic had lost to the rat. It had proven itself a worthy opponent. The trainer pulled out a pokeball and tossed it at the Rattata. The red and white orb flew gracefully in the air. It conked the Pokemon upside the head. It opened up and engulfed the small animal. The ball shook back and forth a few times. Dominic stood stoic as ever watching intently.

With your first battle gone already, you had only a few options. With the loss, it was a heartbreaker for some. You had one of two options. Them being leave or catch it. As the Pokeball was flung through the air, it was evident on which choice you went with. The sphere swallowed up the rat like a Snorlax with it's lunch. Okay, so maybe not as vicious. But nonetheless, it engulfed it. The ball shook back and forth for a few seconds, before clicking. It never opened, meaning only one thing. Yes, you caught it! As strange as it was for a Rattata to appear in a snowy terrain, you gained a new ally. Now it was definitely time to go to the Pokemon Center.

Before you could really move, you retrieved the pokeball that held your new team mate. But before you could make your way to the Pokemon Center, a boy, no older then fifteen, ran up to you. He took a moment to catch his breath, hoping you weren't staring at him with angry eyes. When he looked up, he took a step back before talking. Let's see what he has to say...

"Hey, I'm a Ranger in training. I'm out on patrol to warn folks about the usual snow storms. You better get inside. I seen your battle with the Rattata," He started, but took a pause as to debate what he would say next was necessary and not offense, so in a way, he tuned it to this, "tough break with the loss, but that Aipom of yours is sure to get strong."

"Before I go, would you like help getting the Pokemon Center? It is just down this road but maybe you'd like someone to talk to?" In a way, this boy might admire your Trainer-like traits that you showed during the battle. For how much of it did he see? No matter what happens, the Pokemon Center was just down the road and as a Ranger, he could get small intel on new things and exciting quests. Visiting the Pokemon Center was another way of finding out a new adventure was right in front of you!

Dominic clenched his fist in victory. The battle hadn’t been completely fruitless. The trainer walked over and collected his newfound ally from a small pile of snow. He looked the sphere over inspecting it a bit. The young man paused to wonder how such small ball held creatures ranging from as small as a Rattata to as large a Palkia or other legendary Pokemon. Dominic’s thoughts were interrupted by a younger boy that came running up.

"Hey, I'm a Ranger in training. I'm out on patrol to warn folks about the usual snow storms. You better get inside. I seen your battle with the Rattata. Tough break with the loss, but that Aipom of yours is sure to get strong."

This boy certainly knew how to make friends. But Dominica was in no position to talk either. He often came across as stand-off-ish and arrogant. The eighteen year old simply looked down at the "ranger-in-training" with slightly lowered eyelids.

"I fail to see this as a complete loss. I did in fact catch the Rattata, which proved itself to be a valuable asset to my team. A Rattata is not a completely useless or weak Pokemon either. You should not judge Pokemon by their species, size or level. Pokemon will constantly surprise you with their abilities," Dominic's voice was fairly flat. He walked by the younger boy brushing him aside slightly, "Further more having lived in this city my entire life, I am not unaware of the normal weather of Shimo City, nor do I need an escort to the Pokemon center. Though, if you truly wish to follow I will not stop you."

With that Dominic returned to his thoughts. It would probably be good to give the Rattata a name. Dominic delved into his mind for a moment thinking of possibilities. He wasn't good with creatively coming up with things on the spot. He had come up with Blythe's name after researching it for a bit. But now, Dominic had to make something up on the spot. Fang was a pedestrian name to give to any Pokemon that had a reputation linking it to its teeth, thus it was out of the question. The Pokemon was very bold and a bit stubborn. He was aggressive and put power before strategy. He was quite the little brute. Brute! That would be his name, Brute! Dominic mused internally at his cleverness. He was completely unaware as to whether the "ranger-in-training" was following or not.

((OOC: Blythe is level 6 with two xp remaining. Whoever can change that or tell me where I can ask for a profile update, and change my Rattata's name to Brute that would be great! Thanks! =D ))

Well that was really mean!! I mean, come on! He's just a kid! And trying to be helpful! Well... I'm not here to judge you, but the people who witnessed that confrontation certainly thought that you were the brute instead of your new Rattata. And a woman who had stopped to watch you surely wasn't going to let you get away with that. The kid ran away crying, and the woman followed you to the Pokemon Center, since she was on her way there anyway.

As you walked into the Center, you were obviously greeted by Nurse Joy. "Hi there, and welcome. May I take your Pokemon for you?" She smiled as she came with a tray designed specifically for Pokeballs. Chansey was by her side, ready to take the tray to the healer as the good Nurse figured what else she could do to make you comfortable. The woman waited until you had finished with the nurse before she would confront you. But since you tuned the rest of the world out, were you even aware that she was there to begin with?

Dominic continued walking alone in the falling snow. He could hear sobs behind him, probably form the “ranger-in-training.” This confused the trainer a bit for two reasons. One, he hadn’t intended to be hateful. Well maybe a little, the kid was a tad annoying, especially mentioning his loss to a Rattata in a way that suggested that the loss may be embarrassing. Two, the “ranger-in-training” had to be at least fifteen. You would think that he was old enough that meeting a stranger who, in his opinion, had acted rudely wouldn’t send him off crying. If so, he had much bigger problems than Dominic having being a bit snide with him. But relatively unaffected by the kid’s fragile emotional state, the trainer handed his two Pokeballs to the kind nurse.

“Thank you,” Dominic said to the nurse with a nod. No one could be mean to Nurse Joy, not even someone without a soul. The young man turned around to see a woman behind him waiting. Dominic step aside to allow her access to the counter. Dominic was unaware of the impending scolding he was probably about to get.

“Excuse me, I’ll move out of your way,” Dominic spoke to the woman, then turned back around to lean against the counter and wait for his Pokemon to heal. His fingers tapped the counter somewhat impatiently.

The woman glared at you. She stepped in front of you, however, and when Nurse Joy had walked away, the woman slapped you! SHE SLAPPED YOU! "That was really cold hearted of you! You're such a prick!!" She struggled not to let her voice raise unreasonably. "That kid has been sick for most of his life had finally gotten well enough to leave the hosital. He's finally out to live his dream and he's never seen a live Pokemon battle!" She clenched her hand into a fist, restraining the desire to just completely deck you. Even someone like you with no soul should feel bad for this. But actually, this woman was really cute, now that she as angry. Her brown eyes had flared up, her pale cheeks were flushed, and her light brown bangs gingerly framed her face. Snow flaked her shoulderblade length hair just moments before, but now bespeckled her hair with snowy dew. Her red headband accented the flushed state of her cheeks, giving her more of a cute, girlish charm. "You didn't have to completely blow him off like that! Maybe you should think next time before you sound like an ass in public!" She crossed her arms and puffed her cheeks. She didn't really want to stick around, but she wanted to see some sort of recognition that her words and attack had gotten through to you.
