Derping... All Day, Every Day!
(Night) Shimo City

Shimo City had been the nearest part of Alternia's region that stretched out into the sea in which your boat seemed to reach as its first and maybe only destination. Out on the waters you faced many hardships getting here, no doubt. Whether it had been storms, sea sick, or even some guy trying to roughen you up. As the wooden planks of the boat knocked the docks of Shimo City, a cold and vicious city when it storms. Getting off of the boat could be considered one of the hardest things you'll ever do in your life.

Posted Image

This is your new life. Shimo City, a city that sits into the woods and is always snowy and snowing. It holds a gym and a contest hall. Nothing you should worry about right away, especially with only your Cubone, little Caesar. It wasn't the normal place for a Cubone, where as if you'd check the Poketech it'll be a hell of a time for you to get anything done in this place in the way of battling and leveling. Take the next boat out and move on to another, warmer climate, place.

The path in front of you had nothing but snow, snow, some trees, and snow. A bench or two along the way for travelers who may get off the boat dizzy from the waters, or even tired from old age. It looks gloomy and scary as only a few light posts were on throughout the path. The Night brought only snow, snow, snow, and more snow. It was a medium fall whereas if you were to lay down and stay still, you'd be covered with an inch of snow in no time at all. Definitely not a place like Ir'Negev.

Walking, as that would be the only option with snow collecting on your head, lead you more towards the city. As you kept going, you seen very dim lights in the distance; those lights were mostly covered by the snow, making the city appear as if it wasn't there. However, maybe it should just stay concealed. As you got closer you found a young man who looked a little muscular for his age. A young body builder, perhaps. He was in a winter hat, a puffy winter jacket, snow pants, and of course snow shoes. A scarf wrapped around his neck hid everything but his stone cold blue eyes.

"Hey, you came from the docks. I don't see anyone else, so what the hell you doing here?" His voice was muffled but you could still make it out. With the wind carrying the medium flow of snow, the guy was forced to yell but it still came to your ears as if he was merely talking. "You're not dressed so properly. We should get you inside, no?"

I woke up and the world outside was dark. All so quiet before the dawn. I opened up the door and walked outside. The ground was cold. I walked until I couldn't walk anymore to a place I'd never been. There was something stirring in the air in front of me. I could see...a man. A man was coming toward me. He was wearing thick layers of clothing I had never seen before, though I imagined it helped him battle the cold. I was shivering and could feel my core temperature falling. I'd put Caesar in his Pokeball shortly after the boat docked to keep him from freezing to death. I wished I'd had a Pokeball to crawl into to escape this bitter cold.

"Hey, you came from the docks. I don't see anyone else, so what the hell you doing here?" He approached me with stone-cold eyes. Fitting considering the surroundings. "You're not dressed so properly. We should get you inside, no?" I was hesitant to accept help from a stranger. I had just left the boat and was not sure whether I could trust this man or not. Still, basic survival needs came before anything.

"Thank you, friend. Please, lead the way." I waited for him to lead me to his house. Hopefully it would be heated. I wouldn't stay long. The plan was to get in, get warmer clothing and then leave. Should it be necessary I always have Caesar by my side to defend me. Honourable Caesar. The two of us are the only remains of a once great empire. Well they'll see. Together we shall herald in a new era of prosperity, bring Ir'Negev back to its former glory! But for now, a warm place to sit and some more appropriate clothing would be nice.

Shimo City(Night)

"Wouldn't want ya freezing to death now would we, here take my jacket."He then took off his jacket, and wrapped it around you. He then turned and walked motioning for you to follow him. The snow seemed to die down a bit, which wasn't saying much for a place that snowed all year round it seems. You both walked past villagers and shops, buying and selling different objects. This was your first stop, a shop selling furs and other clothing for warmth.

"Jack, I'll take a jacket, gloves, boots, and a hat. Put it on my tab, and hand all of it to this kid here. Put this on to keep warm, give me back my jacket." You seemed to through on the clothes the guy bought, and it seemed to make everything better for you. You could feel the warmth coming back into your body, which was a good sign. He took his jacket back and through it over his shoulders. Motioning for you to follow him again you did.

You seemed to walk straight into a pub like area. The lights were dim, candles on every table, and a woman walking around cleaning the tables. She smiled, and waved to you and the guy. The woman was older, maybe late 30's. She had brown rimed glasses, with brown eyes hidden behind them, with curly short black hair that went down to her shoulders tied back into a bun. She was mildly attractive, though not the prettiest girl you've ever seen.
"Hey Nathan, who is the guy who is with you? I don't think I've even seen him before. Anyways, what are you two doing here at a time like this?" "Well Jenni, this boy seemed to come right off a boat, no one else but him got off. I was a bit suspicious as to why it was only him on the boat.So I bought him here to keep warm, and to learn more about him.""Well Nat, come and sit have a drink get warm, so we can both learn more about this stranger. You,(referring to you)Sit down I'll get you something hot in your stomach." You seemed to sit down next to Nathan, and Jenni seemed to bring you some warm food, and a couple of drinks for the both of you. She sat next to Nathan and they both looked at you across the table. "So, when you're ready you can explain your story to us."

Walking around this city was a strange sensation for me. There was snow everywhere, falling from the skies and rising up from the earth all at once. It was like a white desert. I guess it isn't too different from home. A cold wind bit at me and I realized that yeah, it's pretty damn different from home. The stranger bought me warm clothing, and I wordlessly put them on. I wanted to thank him, but I was too afraid to show him that I was indebted to him. I could not let any other man control me. Never again.

We entered a building that appeared to be a tavern. It was empty except for one woman cleaning the tables. After a brief conversation I was sitting across from the two strangers with warm food and a drink in front of me. They wished to hear my story. Well, I didn't fully trust them yet, but they have been very kind thus far. I wouldn't lie, I just wouldn't tell the whole truth. "I'm a refugee. Forced out of my home by war." I could tell they would feel bad for me, and offer me more than they already have.

"Don't worry, I'm glad to be gone. My home was a crumbling empire, fit to be destroyed. It's a miracle it's still standing. Out here I have a fresh start, a chance at a new life." I finished my food and drink and got up from the table. "I thank you for your hospitality, but I must be going." I headed for the door, but when I got there I felt the cold of the outside and it was too much. I would freeze to death out there. Perhaps I should stay with them until daybreak. I walked back to the table and sat down once more.

"It doesn't look too safe out there for someone like me, a man of the scorching desert. I would greatly appreciate a room to stay in for the night." Before they could answer I noticed a beeping on my wrist. It looked like this land had a lottery of some sort. Trying my luck I purchased five tickets while I waited for their response.

Head of Registration - The Exploding Train
Shimo City - Night - Nathan's Tavern

Nathan chuckled loudly and poured two glasses of hot chocolate.

"I had a feelin' you'd be askin me that! Here, sit down a spell and join me for a drink of cocoa. Then we'll see about getting you a room."

He sipped his drink and looked you over. The wind was howling outside, and the shutters were clammering against the windows, but Nathan didn't really seem to notice it at all. The storm was really picking up, and it was probably a good decision you stayed in. A frozen wasteland is not exactly a good place for you to roam.

"Well you certainly picked a place that's about as far as you can get from a desert to start out from, if you don't mind me sayin'. Glad to have new people coming around, though. Business gets slow during the stormy season."

A rustling from beneath you led to something bumping into your chair. It was a bizarre looking grass Pokemon, but it looked like it was covered from head to toe with snow. If you were familiar with multiple Pokemon from different regions, you'd recognize the Snover. As you glanced down, he meeped and scurried off behind Nathan. The big man chuckled loudly and stirred his drink.

"Don't mind Claus. He's just a little shy around strangers. Actually I'm glad he wandered into the room, cuz there was something I wanted to ask you."

He put his drink down and leaned on the table.

"See, me and Claus were supposed to be in a double battle tomorrow with a buddy of mine from a different town, but the way the storm's pelting down on us, he had to cancel his trip. That leaves me without a partner. Now I'm certainly not going to turn you out into the cold, but I was wondering if you could help me out. I saw you and your Pokemon earlier on the docks. I was wondering if you'd like to be my partner tomorrow. If you agree, I'll let you stay the night here free of charge. What do you say?"

Not a bad offer: free room and board for helping a guy out in a double battle. Plus, it'd give you a chance to experience a new city and establish yourself in this new land. I'm sure if you don't want too, he'll probably not kick you out. The decision is really yours though, trainer. Help out Nathan? Blow him off? Your call!

The storm howled outside. It was getting worse as the night progressed. A free room would be wonderful, especially considering my lack of funds. A double battle wouldn't be too much of a challenge. It would give Caesar and I an opportunity to bond, as well as gain battle experience. "I would be happy to be your partner." I looked at the little Snover that I would be battling beside. He looked shy, but appearances can be deceiving.

My eyes wandered around the tavern as my mind filled with thoughts. This land was very different from home. It would take time to get used to for both me and Caesar. The battle tomorrow would help us get accustomed to the way things work around here. That brought on another thought. Caesar knows no attack moves. I would have to teach him a bit before the night's end. I got up from my seat and finished my warm drink.

"Once again, thank you for your hospitality, but I think I'll show myself to my room now." I walked over to where I presumed the customers' rooms usually were and entered an empty one. It would do for the night. Anything would do really. I released Caesar from his Pokeball. The little Cubone stretched his back, he hadn't been outside his Pokeball since stepping off the ship. "Hello Caesar. Here we are, you and me together in this new world. It'll be tough, but our people are resilient. We can survive anything."

The Cubone slowly nodded and looked around. Everything was very different to what he was used to. "I'm sure this is all new to you, it's new to me too. But tomorrow we have a big day ahead of us. The beginning of our real journey. We will be aiding our new friend in a battle tomorrow, so we have to be prepared. I've decided to teach you a special move only your species knows called Bone Club. In essence, you hit the opponent with your bone. Very simple, no? Try it out, just swing your bone at an imaginary foe."

It was a lot to take in but Caesar nodded. He took his bone in his hand and imagined there was an opponent in front of him as he got ready to swing. It shouldn't be too hard, right? I mean all it is is swinging his bone like a club, how tricky can it be?

Alone in the room with your new companion, so far from your home that people haven't even heard of it.. Your father REALLY must've had a sense of humor to send you to this little frozen corner of the world. But, you worry not about that right now.

You've apparently volunteered to help your temporary landlord with a double battle the following day, and you sought to correct one little problem that'd make that difficult- the fact that your Cubone can't actually FIGHT. This is just an assumption, but I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that your father pulled this little guy from someone's home, where it very well performed the role of... house pet. Maybe? Maybe not... but regardless, this wasn't going to be super easy. It won't be too difficult, since it learns Bone Club naturally in another two levels, but a general lack of.. any type of offensive experience might hinder you a bit. But, enough babble. Time to actually get to the important stuff.

:cubone Bone Club: 40%

Caesar understood what you wanted, as best he could, at least. You wanted him to learn a new attack, and you were trying to teach him how to use it. He took his bone in hand, and... swung it around in front of him. That's... kinda how it works.... Although, pretending will never compare to actually feeling that bone hit something and reverberate back into your arms, signaling to the body that a good clean hit had connected. Caesar needed some sort of target.

And hey, lucky you! One just happened to be nearby. An old, broken up chair was stuffed in the corner by where your bed was. The inn keeper probably wouldn't mind if you beat it up a bit more, it's already in too much of a bad state to even be able to sit in it. Why not make some use of it? It's old and dry wood, a good, full Bone Club should be able to smash it up. Give it a try, who knows.

I was pleased with Caesar's performance. Considering his lack of any actual experience as well as no target to hit he did pretty well. The little Cubone Tossed his bone up and down in the air, getting a bit more confident with it. He was starting to get the hang of holding it. He swung it around in the air a few times while waiting for my next instructions. I looked around for something for him to hit. Nathan wouldn't mind me banging up that old chair in the corner. It was basically garbage as it was.

"Caesar, go use that broken old chair in the corner as a target. Hit it as hard as you can, try and feel for a good hit. Don't hurt yourself though. Try to break one of its more intact legs." Caesar nodded and headed over to the chair. He took a few practice swings on his way over to it to try and get his swing just right. He was quite the adorable little fellow. An outcast, just like me. Together we would bring glory back to our home!

But first was the battle. I was confident in Caesar's abilities. He would grow to become a mighty Marowak and this battle would be the beginning of that journey. I would need more than just him, though. I looked at some of the regional Pokemon here in Byayuki Island. A few caught my eye, but one particular specimen more than others. It was called Maicub, a tiger-like Pokemon native to snowy lands such as this island. After tomorrow's battle I decided to start my adventure by looking for one such Pokemon.

By Silas:

Shimo City - Nathan's Inn

The wind howled and the snow flew, matching the intensity that was growing inside the room. For a Cubone, the bone that he carried had to be an extension of his or her arm. It was as natural as an arm or a leg, and guiding it along the path to its full potential in time for the double battle tomorrow was an excellent idea. Upon hearing your orders, Caesar nodded, wanting to do his best to master the move and please the person who was growing more and more important to him.

After taking a few practice swings, he tried to size up the leg of the broken-down chair in front of him. He mustered all his strength to his forearm and shoulder, putting as much power as Cubone-ly possible behind the blast. Unfortunately, his first time was a little off because he didn't take accuracy into account. He somehow managed to hit the metal clip holding the leg to the chair and the unexpected nature of the blow caused the bone to blast back and comically hit the ground type in the head. He plopped down on the ground in surprise, but quickly shook it off.

He stood back up again before you could say a word, locked onto a weak part in the wood, and prepared. Bringing the bone back behind his head, he threw all his weight into the blow and utilized all his focus to stay on target. This time, the crunch of wood could be heard as the bone smashed right into it. The leg hung by a few splinters from the chair base. The move was coming along splendidly, but it wasn't exactly perfect. The motion needed to be fluid and sudden without hesitation or misdirection. However, it wouldn't be much longer now!

Caesar's progress was going well. He had done some good damage with the attack. All he needed to work on now was the accuracy aspect. Perhaps forcing him to quickly strike at a specific part of the chair would work. "Caesar, excellent work you're almost there. Now I want you to turn around." The little Cubone was a bit confused but did as he was told. "Now, I want you to quickly spin back around and hit the chair leg right where you did before and break the leg clean off!" Caesar nodded, and started to turn around to get a better look at the chair when I stopped him.

"No, the point of this is so that you have a split second to aim and attack. I believe in you." Caesar nodded, keeping his head straight and resisting temptation to look at the chair. While he focused on that I looked at my wrist, as it was beeping. It turns out someone was offering a trade on a Pokemon called Darumaka as well as a Pokeball. It was only for $1 so I decided to take advantage of it. She could come in handy. Moments later the Pokeballs materialized. One was empty and the other contained my new Pokemon. I placed both in my bag, to use at a later time.

Nathan's Inn, Shimo City

Poor chair. It was being beat up by a Cubone, your Cubone, trying to learn a new move. The chair had been old and in a not-so-good shape to begin with. While you figured the Inn's owner wouldn't mind, it was still property. Nonetheless, you kept going on with it. The night was growing smaller, having the storm and the tutor wisp time away. Before you knew it, the night was slipping into the weeeee morning hours. You were better off getting some rest right after this last round ─ finished or not!

With Cubone turned around, you ordered to him to make a quick turn to finish the chair, and hopefully Bone Club, off. It was coming down to the final and thinnest line between knowing it and still learning. With a swift motion, the bone club (weapon) swung with his body and knocked the leg off from the chair, a clean swipe. It was safe to say that, with as much force as he had, he had the power aspect down. Not to mention the flinching part. With the move learned, was it bed time?

Suddenly, a knock came from outside your room's door. A voice came from whomever it was. As you thought of who's voice it could be, you realized it was Nathan, the Inn's owner. He walked in, seeing your Cubone puff out his chest and act all strong, knowing a new move and ready to show it off tomorrow. The Snover, named Claus, was by his side.

"I heard a noise from up here!" Nathan said, inspecting the room. When he seen the chair leg separated from the base, and several additional pieces that were knocked off, he shook his head. He didn't seem to be so happy with what you've done. Dismissing it, and probably planning to get a new one now, he turned his sight back to you. "You better get some sleep. Tomorrow won't be a walk in the park like fighting a baby Caterpie. These people are tougher then you think. I'll be walking you up in about seven more hours. That's a couple hours later then what I was going to wake you up by." With that, he left, hoping you'd lay down and pass out. And for his sake, as he wanted to win like any trainer did, he needed Cubone to get some rest as well.

I applauded Caesar's efforts. Looks like he's got it. "Wonderful job, Caesar. I knew you could do it." The Cubone looked away shyly then played with the bone a bit, juggling it in the air a few times. I couldn't help but stifle a small half-smile when the bone landed on the little guy's head. He was playful and quite happy-go-lucky. Certainly the opposite of myself. Perhaps this partnership would benefit us both.

I turned to the door when Nathan walked in. Maybe practicing the new attack on his (albeit broken) chair wasn't the best idea, but no changing that now. "You better get some sleep. Tomorrow won't be a walk in the park like fighting a baby Caterpie. These people are tougher then you think. I'll be walking you up in about seven more hours. That's a couple hours later then what I was going to wake you up by." He left and closed the door behind him. He was probably right, sleep would be good. I patted little Caesar on the head before shutting off the light to go to sleep. I let him sleep outside his Pokeball. Only in the most extreme cases would I confine him to it and restrict his freedom.

The next morning I awoke and headed out to the main room. Caesar was already up and excited for his battle. It was about half an hour before Nathan was to wake me up, but I decided to look outside anyway. The storm had subsided, but there was still snow everywhere. It was incredible, it was as if this land was in a state of perpetual frost. Caesar was also taken aback by the scenery. It was horrid and beautiful all at once. I closed the door again and waited for Nathan to bring us to the battle.

I'm cooler than cool... I'm freezing.
Shimo City
Nathan's Inn
Morning/Clear/Cold

There was a knock on the door. "Is everyone in there decent? I sure hope so." Nathan opened the door. "Good morning. I know I'm a little early, but I heard some movement up here. I brought that battle for you." Nathan walked in, opened the door, stood to the side, and revealed a pretty girl with shoulder-length blonde hair and brilliantly blue eyes. She smiled at you and spoke with the cutest accent. She was Swedish. "Ya! Good Marning!" She giggled cutely and closed her eyes, giving you a sweet disposition reading. "I am sorry to vake you up so very early if I have. My name is Elisa, and Nathan has asked me to battle vith you today. That's okay, ya?" She opened her eyes to get a good look at you. She looked so accustomed to the cold weather! She had on a cute outfit that was long-sleeved and under her knee-length skirt, she had on warm, wool leggings with her fur lined snow boots. She had a nice, thick jacket and a heavy, knitted scarf in her arms. "So... Vould you like to bazzle vith me?"

Nathan smiled at her, then at you. "Elisa's English is actually very good for someone who only learned the language a year and a half ago. I think you'll be very happy with her as a sparring partner. And don't worry about the chair. I was about to get rid of it anyway." Elisa stepped forward, closer to you, and Nathan closed the door behind her. "Ve must be careful vith thees bazzle, Ya? Ozervise ve'll tear zeh whole place down, kay?" She pulled a Pokeball off of her belt, and prepared to throw it, but stopped. "If you vouldn't mind, could you tell me somezing? Are ve doing zis von-on-von, von Pokemon a side? Or vould you like somezing else?"

I was surprised. This woman seemed completely immune to the cold. I supposed it was a perk of living here on this frigid island. She began to ask about the specifics of the battle, but before I could respond someone requested a trade. A Pokeball and $10 for a Thick Club. Someone else was offering a Lollipop for only $1. Taking advantage of both offers I accepted and equipped Caesar with the Thick Club. The Lollipop may come in handy later.

Back to the battle, this woman asked how we'd be battling, one-on-one, etc. I was confused. "I was under the impression I would be battling alongside Nathan, however if your wish is to battle me and me alone I would be happy to oblige." Perhaps this would be good. It would give Caesar more experience on his own. "I only have two Pokemon, so one on one sounds like a fair idea." Caesar stepped forward, his new bone in hand. He was ready to fight. He got in a fighting stance waiting for the battle.

Most men would probably fawn over this woman's looks. I, however, was not most men. Beautiful women were not my concern. I had more admirable pursuits in mind. I would battle her and treat her as any other. "Caesar no matter what she sends out use a Tail Whip and then a Bone Club." Caesar nodded and got ready for combat. His first battle, this was a big step. The first big step in our journey to bring glory back to our home.

Overlord of Blowing $hit Up
~Shimo City | Nathan's Tavern~
Elise began to reach for her Pokeballs, but as Nathan took notice, he very quickly cnatched her hand, stopping her from doing so.

"Wait, right, sorry about that, I wasn't paying very much attention for a second there. No, we won't be battling here, and yes, it's still a double battle, as is Elisa's specialty. Elisa, you'll be battling myself and this fellow here. Since I only own a single Pokemon right now, I asked this fellow here to help me out a bit. It'll be a two on two, but we will be moveing outside if you'll intend to use them. The rooms in here are a bit small to do battle with them, and I don't fancy having to fix this place up.. Again..." Nathan pointed out quickly. "Shalom, Elisa, if you would follow me, please."

He then led you and the swiss women downstairs and out of the Inn, walking to the side of it. He stopped at a large, open area next to it, which was probably a makeshift battle area. The snow had stopped falling overnight, and the sky was relatively clear today, giving an unobstructed view of the sun as it just beginning to rise. The warm colors painted the snow in shades of yellow and orange, giving a look to it that betrayed it's true temperature. Elisa walked across the field and took her place at the opposing end, while Nathan took his place beside you. Caesar was already out and ready, Thick Club poised to attack. Nathan took out a Pokeball and released a strange Pokemon.. it was like a ball of ice and rock, floating amid a mist.

The real surprise would be the opponent. Holding two Pokeballs hand in hand, Elisa released her battlers.
"Come out and do battle, my vinged beasts of terror and deztruczion!"

The two Pokemon materialized on the battle field, and they were huge. Both were large, black winged monsters. One was a bird with a positively wicked beak, and the other was.. just plainly a monster. Said monster gave a horrifying roar, causing both Caesar and Nathan's Pokemon to cringe in fear, it's Intimidate ability activating.

With a quick check of the Pokedex, the mysteries of these Pokemon were solved. The bird was a Lucivult, a Dark/Flying type. The monstrosity was called a Fabbledred, a Dark/Poison type. Nathan's Pokemon was a Comice, an Ice/Rock type. All three Pokemon were strange to you, as they originate in this region alone. Along with that, all three seemed to be a bit powerful. Having a strong aid would definitely help with this battle, for the opponents look menacing.. Not bad for your first battle.. ever, huh? Caesar gave you a bit of a worried look, but steeled himself and stared out to his very large opponents. He'll need your commands on what to do next, and I'll advise you to plan carefully..

"I'm going to have Comice raise it's Defense first with Defense Curl, then blast them both with a Powder Snow. What'll you be doing?" Nathan spoke softly so Elisa wouldn't overhear, but loud enough that both Shalom could hear, and Comice receive it's instructions.
