Arthur & Kite The hour was slight. Although the sun rarely made its appearance over the ice block that was Byayuki Island, the general density of the clouds scoured overhead and the very bleak lighting lent themselves to the early hour. The pair of you, a ragtag team of super rich siblings, had just entered the brink between the snow-laden forests of Shimo City and the harbor nearest the Frozen Docks. Accompanying you was an older gentleman, perhaps in his early fifties; he tended a small sleigh – harnessed to which was a Stantler – of which the lot of you rode in. Curiously, a large train-like Pokémon also chugged along to the right of the sleigh, closest to where Arthur Benjamin Winters sat poised well and proper. His brother, Kite Azure Winters, on the other hand seemed to be huddled in the corner of the sledge, perhaps fiddling with his new Pokétech.
The wood surrounding Shimo City was rather foreboding: the branches of dying trees hung low in the path, and distant hoots and the occasional snap of a twig were the only things that could be heard save for the creaking of the sleigh and the careful cadence of the Stantler’s hooves. However these details aside, it was easy to see the appeal of the city’s bordering woodland. Snow clung to every rock and tree, every bush and, soon enough, every lamppost and garbage can.

After cresting a particularly inclined hill, you could see the silhouette of what would surely be Shimo City. As if to welcome weary travelers, the path leading into the city was lined with streetlamps – their earthly yellow glow was certainly a welcome sight, at least to the driver. “Alright, lads. This is where I let ya off. It was a pleasure to meet the lot of ya.” He sent you away with a kind smile before urging his Stantler on further into the settlement.
And then there were three!
Arthur, with his sacred red ribbon billowing in the chilled winter wind, hurried to the double doors of the nearby Shimo City Pokémon Center, fully intending to enter after returning his Trackoal to its designated Poké Ball. "Let's go, Kite." The elder of the two siblings, while he did indeed voice an order, actually seemed more preoccupied with entering the building himself than securing the whereabouts of his brother - the soft, feminine murmuring of girls coming from inside the dwelling couldn't have caused such indifference, could it? Such attitudes were how children got lost and/or abducted! Tsk tsk. "Kay, I'll be right there, Benny..." And so, Arthur entered the Pokémon Center.. alone! As if on cue a trio of maniacal snickers could be heard echoing from the belly of the forest.. how ominous! Now, Kite, oddly enough, seemed interested in the scary sounds coming from the wood - perhaps it was his boyish curiosity getting the best of him, or maybe he thought the laughter held a promise of adventure? Whatever the case, the younger of the two siblings began to venture forth, away from the cozy glow of the Center and toward the gloomy darkness of the abyssal copse.
Back in the Pokémon Center, it seemed as if Arthur had locked on to one girl in particular out of the bunch. She was one of those stereotypical 'pretty girls', big-chested with an even bigger personality to match - you could actually hear her clearly from all the way across the room; every last 'like' and 'totally' rang loudly throughout the otherwise moot, sterile waiting room. The elder Winters brother strode in, whisking off any stray flakes of ice as he went. Lemme tell you, this kid had swagger. He was all charm and pizzazz as he approached the girl of his very minimalist dreams, even going so far as to don a confident smirk when he was within speaking range of his target. "Hey, I'm Arthur. Wanna go out?" After a few moments of assessing the rather slim teenager's physique, so in contrast with her.. stout body.. the girl freaking laughed like Ace Ventura (whatever that sounds like, I have no idea). "Like, no. Whatever. Not interested." Arthur's hopes, so brutally dashed!
Back to the younger Winters brother... Kite was almost immediately enshrouded by a wall of slowly decaying trees. For a while he delved deeper into the forest, accompanied only by the sound of crunching snow beneath his tiny feet and the occasional ring of giggles, which seemed almost like an omnipresent force - wherever Kite went, the laughter followed. Eventually the source of the sound revealed itself, but in quite a mischievous way, if I do say so myself! Gliding across the snow like a Surskit on water, a gangly group of adolescent Sneasel - perhaps equal in age to the ten year old - carefully slunk around to the boy's backside, where his sling bag hung so precariously, just begging to be stolen from! And thus, it was! It was not until the Sneasel retreated a few feet - giggling all the while over their spoils - that Kite realized that three of his chocolate bars had been usurped by the naughty gaggle of Pokémon. "Hey," the boy yelled at the top of his lungs. "Gimme those back!"
Would a battle ensue over the stolen chocolate bars?! Tune in next time to find out!

| lvl. 4 | Criss Criss Kalasen, a boy bound by the whims and cares of his deceased brother, seemed to only share that with the two characters above: an unperturbed love for a sibling. Otherwise he was completely separate, in both state of mind and circumstance, to Arthur and Kite. While the pair above had the luxury of arriving to the town unburdened by the vigors of walking, Criss did just that. He did not have the fiscal influence to secure a sleigh for himself, and thus was forced to transverse the spindly trail leading to Shimo City with only a pair of boots to carry him there. But, if I can hazard a guess, he wouldn't have had it any other way.
Luckily enough, the teenager was not alone in his endeavors - his long-time partner, Karys, was a stately figure latched to his right side, loyal till the end. Criss, with his slight aversion for snow, probably felt comforted by her presence. I certainly would have. The forest, for whatever reason, appeared more dismal when approached on foot rather than in a sledge. The howling of the wind through the branches of decaying oaks was that much more menacing and the snap of a twig even scarier without a swift getaway to assure one's safety.
Eventually, though, Criss conquered the wood without consequence - he arrived at Shimo City without a person there to even herald that arrival. Well, perhaps that's not completely true. There was one sound, an incessant sniggering, that intrigued the ear and caught the eye darting around for the source. The sound, perhaps a simple oddity to the teenager, sent Karys on edge; a rumbling growl racked the Houndour's ribcage, splitting the early morning silence. Criss, I'm sure, wondered over his partner's unease - his questions, though, were soon answered. The shouting of a child could be heard in the belly of the forest, high-pitched and urgent. Would Criss run, heart-first, into the wood, choosing impulsion over quick thinking in order to aid this would-be child? Perhaps!

Slight chills crept along his flesh, a never ceasing reminder of the arctic torture Criss had foolishly succumbed to by embarking to Shimo. The trip was arduous; the barren path he was walking seemed to span on into eternity. The thought of judging their progress was futile, as the environment abound the weary trainer melded together and made it impossible to discern any minute differences. Even time was difficult to determine, as the branches of the forest ascended to the heavens, criss-crossing and intertwining to the point of hiding out the true image of the sun; curiously enough, the light provided wasn't horrifyingly low with respect to it having to seep through the breaches of the natural guardians' hallowed armor.
Every inch of the visible scenery was coated in a thick film of white, almost as if a large bucket of paint had been loosed over the landscape of this entire region. This fine powder was endless in its efforts to coat anything and everything that it possibly could. For the time being, it was still. So still that it emanated a type of serene calm. To some, such a clear image would be beautiful and inspiring. Criss had a different take on the subject. That calm presence that resided was practically suffocating and eerie. Each step forward resulted in an audible crunch as the weight of his body compressed the chilled water vapor broke the otherwise pristine surface of the blanket and compressed it beneath his foot.
The noise was haunting and lingered in the air, reverberating a countless number of times amongst the trees and filling the silence in the air. While the sharp sound was harsh and pierced the empty air, the actions resulted in the sole clue as to the progress he had made along his path. The depressions that were made from his efforts yielded an important clue as to the fact that yes, despite his thoughts, he was actually moving forward. Of course, there was still the occasional gust of wind from the trees on either side that were determined to make things difficult. In addition to sending a worse, brief rush of bone-chilling spasm along his flesh, the 'lovely' wind assisted in the covering of his former tracks.
Every now and then, Criss turned his head the left ever so slightly, tousling his light blonde hair in the act. A flash of dismay would flash across the emerald spheres whenever the tracks he had made were suddenly gone, covered once more with the white substance that plagued him so. With his tracks gone, so was any indication of the effort he had put forth in his endeavor. After the brief emotion came and went, he turned his gaze back upon the blanket of white that coated the path that loomed further and further before him. Was he in some kind of purgatory, forever trapped to travel among this snow-ridden path? No, that wasn't correct. The more accurate scenario was that he was in one of the circles of hell, taking into account the feelings he held for the atrocious substance that was snow.
The frigid chill nipped at every fragment of his figure, dire in its' attempt to plummet his very being into a never-ending frozen pit. The white shirt he wore was snug against his flesh, now fully covering the length of his arms, as he allowed them to remain folded over one other. His hands, partially covered with a pair of black finger-less gloves, sought refuge within the pits of his arms, where they attempted to garner some heat. Numbness had already began to conquer portions of his body; the tips of his fingers, while protected mediocrely, were among the first to be over powered. The cheeks on his face attained a warm red tint to them, becoming blistered from the harsh coldness of the weather. Further still, his entire body was finding it difficult to even rudimentary block his body heat from escaping into the colder air. Despite his being huddled up, every continuous movement send another chill up to his spine.
In the midst of all of this frozen agony, Criss questioned the decision he had made in embarking on this journey in the first place. It lasted only an instant, before being replaced with thoughts of Sven. As if by a miracle, his heart lifted and send a warm wave throughout his entire body, giving him momentary reprieve from the cold. He was foolish to even question the motivation behind this course of action. His lips parted a bit and slowly rose into a small smile; he exhaled softly, then watched in dismay as the breath became visible before him, instantly reminding him of the situation he was in. That brief moment of imaginary warmth had faded, planting him exactly back where he had longed to escape. He had attempted the mental trick of imagining himself in a warm environment, but such a trick had never worked before and it once again proved his inability to produce the self-halucination. Exasperated with this whole ordeal, he shot a look down to the partner traveling to his right.
A few specks of snow had managed to coalesce atop the black fur that cloaked her body, blending in seamlessly with the white, bone-esque bands fashioned like ribs upon her back. She kept a steady pace forwards, both of her right paws going forward after her two left paws, determined to make it through this forest. She looked up and returned his gaze, her charcoal colored eyes peering into his green eyes. She had a firm, tight-lipped line on her face, a sign of her intense concentration of the task at hand, though it quickly dissolved into a joyful grin as she stared at her best friend. The cold didn't seem to faze her as much, as was evident by her cheerful outlook, but that shouldn't have come as much a surprise. After all, pure fire coursed their her body, essentially making her a little heat generator.
Stuck in the situation as they were, Criss was rather envious of his partner's capability; his clothes were warm and comfortable against his skin, though in a tundra such as this even they paled in comparison to the horrendous might of the cold. The spasms were becoming more frequent, a foreboding sign of things growing worse should he not achieve his goal relatively soon. A brief breeze whipping through the branches of trees, causing a low howl to reverberate through the air, adding onto the creepy calm that had once again beset the area. The trainer was growing tiresome of this trip; most of his energy had been consumed just to get here in the first place, let alone to endure the cruel climate. Nevertheless, he trudged forward, now making his way up a sleeper slope.
A small bark came from his side, causing the boy to fix his gaze on the small pooch. The small hound looked up at him with a crazed grin, her maw hanging open wide for a moment. She barked once more and then dashed up the remainder of the hill, inadvertently kicking back a fair amount of snow onto his body in the process. The cold bit him sharply and momentarily stunned Criss. After a brief moment of recollecting himself, he shrugged off the small amount of white powder and then attempted to race up the hill after his friend; there was something that had urged her to run off so sporadically. It must have been good news of some sort, for her to give him an odd look as she had.
The hill peaked and evened out some, allowing the boy to catch up to the charcoal colored hound who was happily rearing back on two legs to add emphasis to the change in landscape. Several wonderful signs sprouted out of nowhere, ensuring that the two of them were in the final leg of their voyage. A comforting light wafted from the erected lampposts that framed the road, gingerly touching and lifting his soul almost to where it should be. He was still in a frozen tundra of which he had very little hope of enjoying, but civilization was not much farther ahead! Looking down to the ground off a little farther, there were even sleigh tracks coming from a similar direction, yet still off. He didn't have the money to afford such a trip so early on, hence him not taking it in the first place.
"Look, Karys. We made it. Finally." His words were rather simple, yet the significance of them were clear enough. His partner barked loudly, seconding the satisfaction surging through the pair of them. The brief amount of pleasure aside, a slight irritation prodded within Criss' throat; it only seemed provoked when he took a breath of the harsh winter air or when he swallowed. With a resigned sigh, he understood what was wrong. The accursed weather here had affected him rather poorly, giving him one of the first symptoms of a small cold. Sore throats, while not a major catastrophe, were still painful and annoying.
The two of them walked forward, their harsh pace now more closely resembling a calming stroll, now less perturbed about the entire ordeal now that the town was within their sites. The familiar site of a Pokemon Center was straight ahead, to which Criss decided to make his first stop in the town, for a few obvious reasons. The building was welcoming and would definitely be warm enough inside for him to thaw out; that, and he had heard that they generally offered temporary lodging for traveling trainers.
As they kept walking, an irregular noise came from the left, the audio waves worming through the foliage to reach him. The source of the noise was difficult to determine based off the sound. The sound even puzzled the young man at first, as he could not interpret it. After a moment of studying the sound, he realized that it sounded like a devious snigger; it had that kind of mischievous sound about it, too. Preparing to pass it off as a coincidence, the reaction that it drew out of Karys was a little more than surprising. She immediately went from jolly to protective and alert, her entire stance altering to a pooch about to attack. Her muscles tightened and prepared to go dashing through the forest, an audible growl escaping through clenched fangs.
Before he could question her, the reason behind her actions immediately became clear within the small scream that came from the same direction as the previous noise, this one obviously coming from a small child. That was enough of a reason to stall his current plans of arriving at the Pokemon Center. Karys acted a split second ahead of him and dashed through the foliage to investigate herself, fully confident that her partner would be doing the same. Her intuition did not fail her; Criss ran forward, weaving his way in between trees and branches in an honest effort to get to the source of the noise without decapitating himself on a frozen twig. It wouldn't really be possible, but what else could one really eliminate as outcomes of running through a frozen forest?
Grim thoughts about this hellish terrain aside, it didn't take as long as he had originally thought to reach the area where all the ruckus had started. Karys had beat him here and had crouched down in front of the figure of a small kid; her fangs were bared at the cause of this chaos, a low growl adding to the situation. The young man turned his gaze and fixated his green eyes upon three pokemon. He couldn't identify them off hand, nor did he want to bother with the contraption on his wrist that would identify the enemies for him; all he had to work with was the information gleamed from their looks. They each had lean bodies, hinting that they probably relied on their speed for a good portion of the time. However, he didn't exactly enjoy the sight of claws that each of them had, all somehow kept to a razor point.
The menacing smile and such could only mean that a battle was coming. They had done something to the child, apparently stolen something of value from him. Might as well get the preemptive strike in and try to end things quick. He didn't particularly enjoy battling, but he would have to steel himself to the thought eventually; sooner was always better than later in these cases. He walked forward a bit more and surveyed everything around him; he was a little ways away from the child, and the enemies loomed a ways in front of him. He kept his concentration on the enemies and of the environment; the best way of keeping this kid safe was to worry about everything that could go wrong, which meant that he couldn't allot a great amount of focus to the aforementioned child.
"Karys, are you ready?" The response was instant, and came in the form of a sharp bark. Her pointed ears were nearly parallel with the rest of her head, as she continued to glare and growl at the group of enemies. She took a few steps forward, away from the child so that she could act in response to Criss' commands with more ease. "Good. Let's warm things up a bit. Start by using your Ember attack on yourself, then use two more on two of the enemies. You can attack whichever you deem appropriate, Karys. We should try to finish this quickly." There was a slight chill that was sent down his spine, though oddly enough not spurned from the cold. A hint of exhilaration, perhaps. In fact, the temperature of the icy climate didn't seem to be bothering him all that much for the time being, though he was aware it was just his mind. If he stayed out here for very much longer, he'd get sick and that would only deter the progress he could make at the beginning of this journey.
As Karys listened to his instructions and then began to carry them out, Criss now had the opportunity to spare a few moments and examine the situation of the kid. He turned his head slightly so that he could perform a once-over, his bright green eyes quickly skimming over the small figure. He didn't get a whole lot from it, but he did infer that the kid was male and a few feet shorter than himself. He was dressed warmly, though he seemed kind of out of place in this environment. The bag that he carried also seemed to suggest that he might be traveling around as well, though he was considerably young to be doing so. One of the more outspoken articles of clothing was the hat; it was green and had a loose 'L' patch sewn onto it in a childish crooked fashion. A bit of hair was seen sticking out from it, indicating that he also had blonde hair.
He didn't exactly know the reason as to why he was out here alone in the forest, or why he was even in Shimo in the first place; however, this really was not the ideal time nor place to go into such details. "Hey, kid, are you alright?" A sharp noise from the now proclaimed battlefield drew his attention back, preventing him from asking any other questions regarding the situation. For now, he'd just have to be content with making sure that the boy was safe. What a way to start the journey of his lifetime; though all things considered, he probably wouldn't have desired it any other way.

Arthur was off on his Pokemon Journey. He didn't exactly remember why he decided to start in Shimo, as it was so. . . cold. That was to be expected, of course, but nonetheless he had made his choice. Tagging along with him was his little brother, who was with him instead of at home. Arthur was glad, because with his dad rarely seeing them, Kite would probably have spent all day with nannies or whatnot. Nonetheless, they were together. Kite had a Pokemon of his own, maybe he could become a trainer? Arthur would probably have to teach him a lot, especially due to his trouble with reading.
"Koaal!~" Chu Chu cried out kind of loudly and disappointingly. Kite had wanted to take a sleigh ride there, instead of riding on Chu Chu. Arthur didn't mind, it'd give Chu Chu a bit of a break. The Trackoal, named Chu Chu, was a bit upset. However, he was still happy he got to ride alongside the sled. The man probably found it weird they were taking a sled ride when they had a Trackoal beside them. It was interesting, to say the least. Arthur looked over and saw the Stantler pull the sled. They didn't really fit his feelings of tough or intimidating, but they looked kind of strong.
Not that Arthur was really paying much attention, he was simply waiting. He started thinking about plans of what to do. "I'm sure we won't be able to take a private boat everywhere. And we don't have a lot of money with us, we couldn't afford to use the public boats often. We'll have to find some sort of large water Pokemon, or something of that sort. . ." He thought to himself. He had time to think it over, of course. Soon, they reached the city, as the man let them off. Holding out a Pokéball, a thin red beam of light shot out, hitting Chu Chu and enveloping him in the same light.
The large train quickly disappeared, into the Pokeball. They neared the Pokemon Center, as he and supposedly Kite entered. Then, he saw a girl. She brutally(Well, maybe not brutally. . .) rejected him. Arthur then noticed that Kite didn't come in. He looked around, and quickly ran back outside. Looking around again, he sent out Chu Chu, the Trackoal.
Then, Arthur heard Kite shout something. He grabbed onto Trackoal, looking in that direction. "Go in that direction, Chu Chu." He said, the Trackoal obviously hearing Kite. As they arrived, they saw three Sneasel, Kite, and some other guy. He had sent out a Houndour and already started attacking. Well, Arthur would too. He quickly jumped off Trackoal. "Okay Chu Chu, use Ember on the one he didn't attack! Then, use ember on one of the ones he attacked!" Arthur said to the Trackoal. He would question who exactly this person was later.
"Kite, send out Mistral." Arthur said to his little brother. He should know her moves, of course.

His big brother was the bestest best person in the whole wide world. He could spell his name: Arthur Benjamin. Winters to add on to the end if he wanted to. Kite was a little sorry for doubting him, even for that little moment on the boat they took to Shimo City. With his cloak wrapped around him and the heart from Chu Chu keeping him warm, little Kite was very glad for his brother. What made him a tad sorry for doubting and the thing that made his brother a whole lot cooler was the fact that they weren't riding in the massive Trackoal for once. Kite had saw the sled by the docks, reindeer - was it? - waiting patiently while gently tapping the snowy path with its hooves,
As he sat within the sled pulled by a Stantler, he smiled quietly as he fiddled with his backpack, rearranging more than just a few candy and chocolate bars. From within he pulled out a slightly scratched Poketech - it was new, but he insisted on messing with it ... he messed it up in the end, for lack of a better term. Just shortly before they left for Shimo, Kite had it repaired and hastily stuffed into his bag. Chuckling quietly to himself, he leaned against Arthur and sighed, playing with its functions a little and listening intently as it started to read out a particularly long article on a type of Pokeball. There was plenty of time to listen during their journey.
Good things never last long. Indeed they never did, for the ride ended all too quickly. With a sigh and mental note to mail his dad via Poketech to get him a sleigh and Stantler for Christmas, the boy hopped off and into the sand. Smirking, he bent over and tried to make snowballs with the snow, but alas, the snow was too cold for hands without gloves. His attempt futile, he exhaled discontentedly and glanced up at the Pokemon Center. He'd wait for his brother outside. He didn't want to go in ... he wanted to surprise Arthur with a barrage of snowballs!
Kite's attempts at playing a prank on his brother was quickly foiled a second time by gales of laughter. Curious, he turned to glance at the nearby forest. His vision returned to the Pokemon Center for a moment - there were girls, so Arthur was definitely occupied. No doubt about that. Convinced that the teenager wouldn't miss him even for a beat, Kite ran off in the direction of the forest and missed the event where his brother was rejected somewhat brutally by the girl he approached. Had he seen his brother rejected by a girl, he would have teased him endlessly -
- not. "Where's this laughter coming from?" he mused aloud, glancing over his shoulder and around him. His precious stash of candies rustle laid within his back, and his hand rustle rustle snaked to his back to retrieve a lollipop to suck on - "E-eh ... hey!" cried Kite, the perpetrators showing themselves, "Gimme those back!" He was shocked, perhaps even stunned; he had not expected to be the victim of deft Pokemon. Almost out of habit, he turned to his right and was about to comment on Arthur ...
"Ben - argh! I left him at the Pokemon Center! ... you guys, I said - give them back!""
Like a spoilt child, he yelled and stared at the group of Pokemon, unaware of Criss' arrival and prompt issuing of orders. It was only when the Houndour started to act upon command that her shadow lurked within the corners of his eyes, and he realized the presence of another Pokemon Trainer. Once again, his hand flew to his bag, only for him to mutter about not being able to find his Pokeball containing his one and only Pokemon. What a bad time to be held up!
"This is a new low for me,"" he grumbled with a frustrated shake of his head. Shifting his vision between the wild Pokemon and the newcomer, he quickly made his way towards Criss. As he proceeded on, he heard a familiar voice - there was no. way. in hell. that his brother changed appearance that quickly ... oh there he was, on the other side of the field. Kite now stood by Criss, but his attention was with Arthur. He gave a determined nod.
Fishing out Mistral's Pokeball, the boy launched the device into the air, releasing a Mantyke that hovered just a few feet off the ground. "Alright, Mistral! Smack one of 'em with a Bubble and another with a Bubble as ... well~!" he ordered, much to the Mantyke's ... amusement?!
Mistral was most definitely having fun in the wintry air - ooh, was those Pokemon the bad guys? She could attack them, oh yes ... right away!
Mistral - Bubble + Bubble (separate Sneasel)

Disclaimer: This ref was brought to you by the word “Alligator” and Aquos’ challenge of making the ref rhyme like a Dr. Seuss book. Away I go!
So off and away the trio all went, huddled together and rather intent. On what might you ask? For I shall soon tell, the following, just listen, just listen, and bask. The light be it small, creeped ever so steadily, over the hilltops and treetops for the sleigh at a crawl. At a crawl you might wonder be it tugged right along, by a Stantler reaching its destination, pulling both fast and quite strong.
Following the rear was determined Chu Chu, who despite its best efforts was feeling quite blue. No not in the sad way, it was rather the cold, having to chug right along with them, as they rid in the sleigh. Soon you could see it, the town bathed in light, then the sleigh-driver left you, to you and your sight.
The next part we’ll skip for time is quite short. What? I’m not rhyming all that, it’s hardly a sport. No, for this ref we’ll keep it quite brief. Besides, after all, there’s theft, and with it, a thief. A thing that did “snee” was where the chocolate now lay, but not just one Sneasel no, not one Sneasel, but three.
Krys acted first as a hound of the pyre, lighting the stage, and using her fire. Flames roared around before they could enquire when all was settled there, two would expire. The pooch handled one with elegant ease, the other by the train, who swore it would freeze. But the cold was no match for this team, no no. The remaining Sneasel however, fled back to the snow. Into the forest it did quickly run, whatever it had decided to do, the damage was done.
Experience was gained thanks to the calculator, lucky however that there isn’t an alligator. No, the presence of a Feraligatr was much like spawning some jewels, quite very so rare and against the board’s rules. Back to the PokeCenter to heal you are sent, time warping okgo, hey, the rules can be bent!
So the ref is now done and the Pokemon now healed. If anyone makes me rhyme again, my sword I shall weild. =_=
FLAWLESS VICTORY! Krys gained 8 ! Krys levelled up!
Chu Chu gained 8 ! Chu Chu levelled up!
Mistral gained 8 ! Mistral levelled up!

"Yay, Mistral!"
The child was very happy that his Pokemon had managed to defeat three Sneasel. Of course, it wasn't really all her doing, but he was still very happy. Wait ... who was that mysterious guy besides his brother? Well, he'll talk to the other guy later on; for now, there was something for him to deal with. Striding straight up to Arthur, without even flinching, Kite gave him a sharp kick to the knees before frowning up at him. His green eyes stared into the very same shade of green, and he turned away. "Well, that's for leavin' me and Mistral alone," he said matter-of-factly as he stared at the teenager, before turning to Criss. He had so ignorantly and impolitely ignored him a moment ago, right?
Crossing his arms, he allowed himself a second or so to take in Criss's appearance. To him, there wasn't anything particularly special about the other man, but he smiled at him all the same. "Hmm? Me? I'm just fine, thank you~" grinned Kite as Mistral came to rest atop his head. Laughing innocently, he toddled back and forth, trying to balance himself without dropping the Mantyke. Of course, being part flying, Mistral was never in danger of dropping to the ground.

"Good job, ChuChu." Arthur said to the Trackoal. Trackoal was rather happy, leaning back a little and moving it's front wheels as hands happily. "Koal koal~" Trackoal chuued happily, glad Kite was okay. Arthur was going to say something else, but was stopped by a kick to the knee.
"Ow- Damn it- Kite that hurt- Don't do that-" Arthur said with a few pauses in between words. Of course, Kite was just a child, so it didn't hurt THAT much. "You are the one that ran off, Kite." Arthur said to him. Chu Chu had went up to Kite, kind of circling him happily.
Arthur then remembered someone else was here. Looking up, he noticed the man had a Houndour. "Who are you?" He asked. ". . . Well, either way, thank you for helping Kite." Arthur said. Chu Chu was still circling Kite happily. "Trackoal! Chu Chu said. He was certainly happy Kite was okay.

- Chilling wind came and went, the sharp wave of coldness washing over the tiny hound's body; unsurprisingly, the sensation didn't seem to faze her. Somewhere, deep inside, there was a bright flame flickering, fueling her actions and her emotions fueled the flame. Warmth radiated from inside her and traveled to every part of her body, effectively nullifying the natural climate of the terrain. Karys was running forward, in the direction of the hazy creatures that she had identified as 'enemies' for assaulting a small child.
Each stepped propelled her form closer to the situation; every step forward caused her paws to crunch through the hefty layer of fallen snow. Fair amounts of the white powder lingered on her fur, providing a thick contrast against the darkness of the black fur. She came to a halt a short ways before the targets, with a small pile of snow dispersing into the air as a result of her sudden stop. A low growl began in the back of her throat which continued to grow, becoming more feral and more fearsome as it did so.
She stared intimidatingly at the lot of them, her crimson eyes reflecting the powerful flame that was raging inside her. Concentrating the energy that was resonating with her body, she gave it a physical form. Small bits of fire licked around her maw, as a small gaseous sphere of flame manifested itself. The logical choice would be to shoot it off towards one of the dark creatures, however, she disobeyed the natural choice and instead volleyed it up in to the air, directly up above her. There was not as much driving force in the execution of this particular attack, as the intended recipient was herself.
Gravity played its' intended role and pulled the condensed flame downwards, where it collided against the white bands on the hound's back. A magnificent burst of orange, red and yellow exploded upon contact, the erratic pattern in which it spread out resulting in a truly beautiful sight to behold. A few mere seconds later, it seemed that most of the flame had dissipated; small amounts still lingered about her form, before the flames began to grow and encase sections of the pooch's figure. Fire calmly erected around her shoulders, back and down her legs; her special ability was something called 'Flash Fire'. Making her essentially immune to all flame-based attacks, the ability additionally supplemented her own power once one such attack came into contact with her.
The heat protruding from her small body was intense enough that the snow around her began to liquify, despite the intensity of the cold air. Aided with this external rush, the flame deep inside her practically exploded with additional power, surging through her entire body with increased vigor. Traces of fire escaped from her maw as another Ember attack was prepared; her orders had been to attack whomever she deemed fit. With only two attacks left, her choices were a bit restricted. Her heart wanted to attack all three of them, so which would be the one to escape her wrath for the time being? Mentally, she disposed of the complicated notion, as she did not have time in a battle to hesitate. The closest one available to her was the target of the hellish flame that she had been harvesting; launching the pyre at the scrawny creature.
The flames enveloped the foe, a brilliant cascade of color, before dissipating quickly. Karys' eyes widened a bit in surprise when she saw that enemy was still standing after the fact. A moment passed as she regained her focus and analyzed the black creature; a small amount of silent satisfaction was received when she noticed the tell-tale signs of fatigue and exhaustion. The female was standing for now, but only barely. However, now Karys was torn; there were still two of the cat-weasels left, but she was only permitted to attack once more. A large noise from the left caused her ears to perk up slightly, in the direction of the noise. Cautiously, she allowed herself to view the area with her peripheral vision while not letting the enemies an opportunity to catch her unawares; an odd site greeted her, that of a male only slightly younger than Criss riding on what seemed to be another strange creature that she was unable to recognize.
At that moment, she worried if this new arrival was fortuitous or otherwise; if he were an enemy, things would be looking far, far worse than they had mere moments ago. Relief was a sensation that she welcomed, when the new creature attacked and downed the enemy that Karys had focused her first attack on, using precisely the same attack as the hound. Despite the shiny exterior that it had, it harbored a powerful flame inside, just as she did. Lingering on the curiosity of the new guest no more, she returned her attention to the remaining two threats. Hastily, she gathered up the flame in preparation for her attack and lobbed it off towards the second of the trio, to have it encase and harm that one. At the same time, a duplicate of the attack hit the remaining target.
Just as before, her attack was not quite strong enough to knock out the foe without assistance; this time, though, there was no assistance from the guest. The creature stood back up and looked around warily, exhausted from the assault already. Karys registered a slight aspect of fear in her eyes, which would be reasonable to expect at this juncture. However, she didn't exactly expect one of the remaining enemies to just up and run away from the encounter. Karys eyed the slim figure as it nimbly hopped up and took towards the more inward parts of the icy forest. Her attention was drawn back to the rest of the scenario when a flurry of transparent little spheres flooded the field, swarming around the remaining target. Taken by surprise, she turned rapidly, attempting to discern from where they had originated. Yet another new creature had shown up out of the blue, prancing over by the small child.
The tiny creature hovered above the ground, casually 'swimming' through the air with an attitude akin to a youngling. Wherever she had come from, the strange attack she had generated quickly rendered the remaining enemy unconscious; she lay in the snow with her partner, the darkly tinted fur clashing clearly against whiteness of the snow. In a way, it seemed somewhat symbolic: the dark enemy who had cruelly assaulted the child amidst the pureness and innocence of the snow. That pureness continued to fall from the heavens, lightly blanketing the two dark figures.
A sense of calm settled back within the pup as the threat of danger subsided; the flames that swirled around her quelled slowly, before vanishing all together as the effects of her ability ceased with the battle. Something remained from the battle, though... or rather, something gleamed from it. Euphoria was swimming through her, as the realization of her - no, their - efforts seemed to sink in. This was her first encounter, the first time she had been required to utilize any of her battle-oriented skills and the outcome had been outstanding. Collectively, they had emerged victorious! Filled to the brim with excitement, the young hound jumped around and locked eyes with her trainer, her friend. Her serious demeanor washed away in a second, replaced with a jovial expression.
In a playful manner, she crouched down and barked out joyfully, before she bolted straight towards the young man. The distance between the two was closed in a matter of minutes, and in a split decision made out of joy, Karys leaped into her trainer's arms and comfortably began to lick at his face, all the while attempting to not leave saliva. Criss caught on to her intentions in advance, which allowed him to brace himself for the impact of her weight and momentum and coddle her in his arms.
The soft impact was nearly enough to send the two tipping over backwards into the snow, which would have displeased the young man quite a fair amount. Despite that, he was almost shining with happiness himself; he and Karys had worked together quite well in their first battle. They did have others to thank for that, though, and Criss needed to address the two of them and do so. His friend's actions, however, kept him fairly distracted for a good minute or two. She had taken to licking him out of joy; it wasn't exactly new, as that was her typical display of affection and happiness.
"O-okay Karys, haha, that's enough for now," he said through small fits of laughter and small giggles; Karys' pre-emptive strike against him was proving to be fairly effective. After a moment of shy, laughter-filled protest, the playful pup finally ceased her assault and calmed down, though she refused to let Criss simply let her back on the ground. Criss laughed softly at this and stroked his hand through the fur on her neck, which was smooth and soft to the touch. She continued to nuzzle up against his chest in response; affection returned for affection given. "You did very, very well my friend."
In the end, Criss thought, she was still just a small puppy. He was still grateful of that fact; the portion of him that was growing even further adverse to the snow and chill that plagued him, was especially grateful for her actions. Karys' fur was still warm, almost hot even, from the impressive display that she had presented to everyone earlier. Her body was always naturally warm, which was helpful to him now since he had inadvertently wound up spending more time outside in the accursed winter air.
Forcing himself to tear his attention away from the small puppy, he looked over to where the child and younger teenager had met up and were having a little bit conflict themselves. Criss smiled at the interaction between the two; it truly did remind him of his little brother. While the two of them seemed to have a bit of tension between them due to some situation or another, both of their own pokemon seemed equally as happy about their joint victory as Karys. He snuggled the pooch once more, before he took a few steps in the snow towards where the pair were standing; he was halted in his progress, though, when the little child ran up to him all prepared with a response to the concern that Criss had expressed earlier. As he did so, the boy’s partner flitted to a small resting place on his head and commenced with what seemed like a small balancing game.
Chuckling slightly, his smile grew wider, as befitting his friendly persona. ”Good! I’m glad you are safe. My name is Criss and this little pup is Karys. How about you? What’s your name?” He had crouched down slightly, knees tucked in; the combined weight of his and Karys’ bodies resting on the balls of his feet. All in the effort of being at the same height with the child in order to foster better communications between the two. He stayed there for a moment to listen to the child’s response before he was addressed by the other, older boy; in response to this, he adjusted himself back up to his full height before speaking. ”Don’t mention it; I was more than happy to help him. My name is Criss, and you?” As part of his greeting, the young man extended his hand out to the younger teenager in a display of friendliness.
Karys nuzzled closer to him, if such a thing were even still possible, after he withdrew his hand from the social exchange. At that moment, a particularly powerful breeze howled through the area, sending a shocking surge of cold throughout the man’s whole body and causing him to cringe and shudder in response. Noticing his actions, a small whine arose from the pup, who licked his chin lightly in an effort to help console her friend. ”R-r-right, then. How about we continue our discussion inside the warm and hospitable Pokemon Center?” The words were uttered through teeth that were chattering so hard, that they actually stood a fair chance of causing minor damage to each other.

The puppy was sure affectionate with Criss. Well, usually dogs are as such to their masters. Criss spoke to Kite, responding to him. Arthur was a bit more suspicious, due to their wealthy position. It could have been a random act of kindness, but who knows? Arthur and Kite, while perhaps not very well, were still somewhat well known. Would he want a reward for helping Kite? His outer appearance didn't seem as such, but who knows. As he finished speaking to Kite, he spoke to Arthur. Arthur left a pause in the air momentarily. Well, why not see? ". . . Yeah, thanks. I'm Arthur, and this is Chu Chu." He said, reffering to the Trackoal. While doing so, he shook Criss' hand. The black gloves he wore fit with the white gloves of Arthur's.
Criss mentioned going back to the Pokemon Center. Arthur still couldn't gather any bad motives, but nonetheless went along with it. "Yeah, good idea. That's where we were before Kite ran off." Chu Chu had stopped circling around Kite after Criss bent down, and stretched out in front of the group to help block the wind. "Chooo~" Trackoal said, the cold wind having little effect on him. And so, the group headed back to the Pokemon Center. Arthur recalled Trackoal as they entered. Then, he got offers on trades! In the end, he had spent all his money, but obtained a Gastly and a Poliwag.
Arthur sent out the Gastly and Poliwag, as she quickly floated over to Kite. Gastly really liked Kite. Poliwag just stood in place, wagging his tail happily. Arthur managed to find a few empty seats, as he sat down. Poliwag followed behind, wagging back and forth. Assuming Kite and Criss sat down too, Arthur decided to ask a question. Learning more about Criss was an easy way to figure him out better. "So Criss, where are you from?"

Kite glanced at Criss. It wasn't everyday someone who wasn't his brother wanted to talk to him and know his name, all without looking behind him and at his family's fortune. Of course, there was no way the Kalasen boy could have known that, but all the same, the younger of the siblings was wary. Many a time had he had a playmate that pestered him to marry her ... as if he would. Girls made him uneasy, except Mistral, his Mantyke. "... Kite." And then as quickly as he spoke, he turned away, stretched and motioned for Mistral to return to her perch atop his head.
The duo continued to chat with each other; Kite chose to ignore them and ran around in the snow, holding Mistral tightly upon his head as he laughed. It seemed that he had managed to put the ordeal he had experienced not too long ago behind him. Having no inclination to introduce himself, he continued playing with Mistral until he heard Criss speak of the Pokemon Center - it was indeed warm, but hospitable ... hmm. Hospitable? What did that mean? The child walked up to the brown-haired teenager, panting from his playing as he spoke - "Crissy, hey!" - at this, Mistral slipped from his hands. She floated somewhere around the boy's shoulder as he stared at the older teenager with his emerald eyes.
"Yeah, you ..." he spoke, his gaze shifting nervously. He felt worried all of a sudden; was he going to be berated for not being polite, well-mannered and all that? He was just a kid ... he had, needed that liberty to overstep his boundaries at times. "What does hospitable mean? And Benny -" Kite wasn't going to let his brother question him as to why he did not ask him the meaning to that particular word, and so chose to direct his next statement at him. "... Crissy said the word, so he should answer~" Smirking, the child leaned on his brother.
Later on, as they retreated to the Pokemon Center, he couldn't help but wonder who exactly was Criss. Kite's questions were left unanswered as he trailed after Arthur to the empty seats; needless to say, he knew which one he'd pick - Arthur's lap. It was by far the most comfortable and warmest one out of all of them, and he wasn't going to sit on a stranger's lap. As much as he was tempted to, Kite knew that it was totally wrong - he wasn't some kind of weird exotic dancer.
"We're from Golderia, y'know, Crissy."

- Quite pleased that they didn't seem too taken off by a stranger greeting with them, he felt a small strand of friendship tie the lot of them together. Since he had started traveling, he hadn't come across anyone who was up to socializing with him for more than a brief period of time. Perhaps these two would be different. Criss would enjoy having people that he could call friends while out on his adventure. Though, the thought that they might just be with him because he helped them out did cross his mind; he pushed it aside with ease due to his more optimistic nature. If they did leave sooner than he hoped, it would be alright too.
"Uh... what does it mean? Haha. It means a place that is very kind and welcoming to people and pokemon." He was always amazed at the innocent natures that young children had and how most of them were pure and kind-hearted. While it wore off faster on some, it was always there originally. This lad, Kite, was certainly still kind and playful. If anything, the interactions that he had with the slightly older boy heavily suggested that the two were related in some respect. Brothers, judging by the closeness the two shared for each other. It was a refreshing site to behold, and he'd wager that Karys was able to pick up on the similarities almost immediately herself.
"So... Kite and Arthur. It is good to meet you both." By the time they had finished their short conversation, they had already managed to make it back to the Pokemon Center and retreat into the warmth. Finally able to release his body's tension and just absorb the warm air in, he walked over to the seats that Arthur had located and joined him on the soft cushions. Karys, never one to leave her master by being inside of a pokeball, hopped up on the seat as well and rested the upper half of her body on his lap. He could still feel the heat emanate from her fur, but he had grown accustomed to her doing this and had no intention of asking her to move.
It seemed as if Kite had a similar idea to Karys, only with Arthur's lap. He chuckled at the sight, this being only further evidence to attest that they were brothers. "You're from Golderia, huh? From what I've heard, you have a good place to call home. I've never actually been out there. I'm originally from Kijutsu, and this is the first time I've ventured away from home." He thought he had answered the teen's question appropriately, so he decided to ask in return, to see if his presumptions were accurate or not. "You two seem very close. Are you brothers, by chance? You certainly look and act the part."

Kite bounced a little on Arthur's lap expectantly. There wasn't much to do as he looked around the pokemon center - most of it was the same old design, though he hadn't really had a good look at the building since his brief adventure out into the woods (where he was then rescued by the likes of his older brother and the newcomer, Criss). "Then you should come visit sometime. I know a cooty old lady who's got a spare room," he told Criss with much honest intentions; sure, the lady he spoke of was one of those dangerous cat women, but she was still nice if someone wanted a room to stay in. As long as no one stepped on her cats' tails. That was a death wish.
"Benny, where's Kijutsu?"
Mistral floated away from him, and without waiting for an answer, Kite tore himself away from Arthur to chase after his pokemon. Laughing loudly with no apparent concern for the other patrons of the pokemon center, he continued circling the reception counter, attempting to capture the mantyke. He was left panting after his endeavor; he might have been good at running, but he was no match for a part-flying pokemon.
"Forget tag, Mistral. I'm outta this game," he grumbled, acting the part of a sore loser, yet wearing a grin as he approached a vending machine that sold junk and candy in the corner of the center. If it wasn't for the sneasel trio, he'd still have most of his candy. "Stupid sneasel ... stupid Mistral ... stupid Benny," he muttered under his breath as he kicked the machine, attempting to get it to throw out some kind of free gift.
Candy ... now that was something that made his day better. And his gaming consoles. A part of him wished he'd brought along his DSi or PsP. That way he wouldn't be that lonely, and he didn't need to bother his big brother for stuff. But then again, this Criss person was interesting; his emerald eyes flicked towards the new teenager and he crossed his arms. Maybe he'd give him some coins to put into the machine.

Arthur listened to Criss as he spoke, getting somewhat uncomfortable as Kite started bouncing on his lap a little. However, upon Criss mentioning he was from Kijutsu, Arthur was asked a question. "Let's see. . . Kijutsu is on Alternia Island, which is south of Golderia. It's even further south from here at Shimo. Or something like that. It's pretty far away, though." After responding, Mistral darted off, causing Kite to jump up and run off. It wasn't that big of a deal, as long as he didn't get into trouble. "But yeah, I've only been to Kijutsu once before. It was when I was really young, though, and I had to stay in a room with guards the entire time. I had heard things about Kijutsu being dangerous sometimes, but is it really? And yeah, Kite is my little brother." Arthur asked Criss.
Upon Kite jumping up and running off, Gastly quickly floated off, levitating above Kite's head. He seemed to just follow Kite, really. Poliwag had jumped up into the seat beside Arthur, relaxing and sitting down. He wasn't really sure where he was or what was going on, but he decided just to relax and go along with it. Suddenly, breaking the momentary silence after Criss' reply to Arthur, his Poketch made a small beeping noise. Holding his arm up, Arthur had a message. Tapping the screen to open the message, he silently read it.
Hey, Arthur. It's me, your old man! I'm sure you're probably busy being a Pokemon Trainer, but I thought I'd send you a congratulatory gift. It's a Bouffalant, a new type of Pokemon native to the Unova Region, a far away region. They're not common here yet, so it's pretty rare right now. Anyway, tell Kite I said hi.
After Arthur closed the message, a Pokeball appeared in his hand. "That old man. . ." Arthur put the Pokeball with the rest of his Pokeballs with Pokemon in them, before turning back to Criss. There had been somewhat of a silence there, as Arthur contemplated what to say. Finally, he decided, in the form of another question. "So Criss, what are you doing in Shimo? It's pretty far away from Kijutsu." He asked. He didn't really seem bad or malicious, but who knew, really?

- For a moment after he spoke, he absently stared at the two that had accompanied him to the building. It truly was remarkable how close they were. In them, he could somewhat see a younger version of himself and Sven, back when his younger brother had been healthy enough to be so active. Though, now that he thought about it, this energetic child seemed much more carefree and outgoing than Sven had ever been capable of. There was nothing wrong with it, but that realization helped keep him from losing himself in the past.
He emerged from his personal reveries just in time to pay attention to the pair as they spoke, remarking upon his words of Kijutsu. Kite, without awaiting a response, hopped up and began running around the brightly lit and open lobby, playing happily with his own pokemon. He wasn't exactly sure what species it was, but it was interesting. Perhaps he would look it up later on his.. uh.. PokeTech. Not wanting to look like a fool in front of people he had just met, he decided that he would try to figure out the device on his own time.
He chuckled at the younger man's description of Kijutsu, taking particular interest in his mention of being accompanied by guards. "Well, to be honest I'm not sure if I consider it dangerous. There are certainly bits of the town that seem more hostile than others, but I've never been to any place outside of it. I wouldn't know how it would be compared to other places. For me, I just lived my life there." It seemed that he had a particular interest in why, having never been to any other place, that Criss would have picked Shimo as his first destination of choice. While an honest inquiry, he couldn't help but feel a bit of suspicion in his line of questioning. Though, it wouldn't be completely out of the ordinary, considering they had just met and all.
Taking note of Arthur's intent attention on his own Poketech, Criss took the time to reach down and open his bag, removing from within one of his small notebooks, along with a pencil. Flipping a few pages of old sketches, he started drawing a few lines at the corner of the top left page. As he continued adding lines and circles, with dashes of shading, the more and more his doodle resembled one of those creatures that they had gone up against not too long ago. As he finished up, Arthur seemed to restart the conversation by asking him the question that he had feared would come up.
"In truth, my reasoning is very simple. I made a promise to come here together with Karys to start my journey as a trainer, in place of someone else who was too sick to make it on their own. I suppose you could also say that it is my entire reason for being a trainer in the first place... How about you? What are you two doing all the way out here?"

Listening to Criss talk, he didn't seem really bad at all. Of course, this didn't mean he wasn't, but it certainly lowered Arthur's suspicions. As he explained why he was in Shimo, he asked Arthur why he and Kite were in Shimo. It took Arthur a second to think about it. Why exactly DID they start in Shimo? Trackoal had an advantage over ice types, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's easier. "To be honest, I'm not really sure. I don't really have a reason like you. While it's not very far from Golderia, it is cold. Traveling and staying warm are both easy with Chu Chu, but that's the case with anywhere. . . Kite did want to see the snow, though. I suppose I don't really have a reason." Arthur said, before realizing he had begun to ramble slightly. He quickly regained himself, looking around. He didn't really have any questions left.
Furthermore, where would he and Kite go next? Where would Criss go next? Arthur was curious of that, however, asking that would delve too much into suspicion, which he was past at this point. At least, mostly. Arthur still wasn't fully trusting of Criss, but he was no longer suspicious, either. Perhaps they could head out, and find something to battle. Considering it had been but five hours or so since Arthur and Kite arrived, there probably wouldn't be any ferries leaving soon. Of course, Arthur wasn't in any hurry to leave, either, considering they had just arrived. Who knows what lied in store, but having an idea of what to do would probably be better then randomly doing whatever happened.
